Elite Cricket 2018 - Week 8

A bit of a unique week as Elite returns to action, but with only eight teams featured over twelve games. First up...

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Flames will give Hannah rest in their fourth of a five-game road trip, while Solaris is on the bench for the Torpedoes in this one. Crystal had a bit of a down effort with 195 for Queens, not the greatest start for the visitors. Smudge was worse for Infinity, taking only 64 against her close friend's squad. Violetta got things on track for the Flames again, smacking 606 to give them a more stable lead. Fluffina charged back with a massive 917 for the Torpedoes on her turn, putting them ahead at the halfway mark. Briana cratered at a measly 33 for Queens this time, wasting a chance to counterattack for the visitors. Shelley picked up a modest 328 for Infinity to boost their lead with a player each to go. Kyle covered the deficit with 679 for the Flames, putting them at a total of 1513. Mr. Snowman did enough with 358 to claim the win for the Torpedoes at 1667. Infinity jumps up to 9-3, while Queens slips to 8-11 with the loss.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates sit Steven in the first game of a doubleheader, while Daisy takes rest for the Union this time out. Ms. Puppy served up a strong 576 for Modernistic to lead off this game in good form for the visitors. Delila chipped 411 in a slow turn for Atlantic, keeping the hosts within striking distance initially. Puff I replied with 345 for the Union, weakening their lead a bit in a shaky second attack. Isabella couldn't capitalize on the weakness, taking 209 for the Pirates to allow the deficit to grow again. Kodiak shot back with 453 for Modernistic, pushing their lead to new heights against the struggling hosts. Klaus had a little too much flair at the end of his turn, needing a soft backhand and failing to produce before falling at 411 for Atlantic. Chimpy tacked on 472 at the end for the Union, setting their final score at 1846. Max tried to rally but fell at 290 for the Pirates, leaving them short at a total of 1321. Modernistic takes a dominant win to get to 7-8, while Atlantic drops to 5-8.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirate's Park, Atlantic: The Torpedoes begin an eight-game road trip with Smudge taking a seat, while the Pirates rest Isabella after her poor outing last game. Fluffina pummeled 960 for Infinity this time, giving them a confident advantage immediately. Delila shot back with 408 for Atlantic, not even getting half of the damage back. Solaris tried to keep the momentum up, but he crashed out at 141 as the Torpedoes lead weakens. Steven took advantage of the weakness with 529 for the Pirates, carving into the deficit at the midway point. Shelley had to fight off a flurry early on for Infinity, recovering to take 450 to pad their lead. Klaus countered with 519 for Atlantic, closing the gap again late in the game. Mr. Snowman put the Torpedoes in an even more vulnerable spot with only 211, giving them a final of 1762. Max popped 509 for the Pirates in the end, completing the comeback at 1965 for a rare home win. Atlantic is up to 6-8 now, while Infinity falls to 9-4 with the loss. The two teams meet again in the game after next.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Rosemary takes this game off in the third of a four-game trip for the Tradewinds, while Celestia sits out the seventh of a nine-game home stand for the Waves. Tigerette tried a pacey swing style, which failed on a quick offering that sank her at 266 for Commerce. Snuggle answered with a firm 571 for Oceanside, setting the hosts noticeably ahead. Taylor countered with 650 for the Tradewinds, keeping them in the fight with her big showing. Josie faltered with 211 for the Waves, putting them at a mid-game deficit. Lionel got jammed on the wrists on his turn, poking a meager 42 for Commerce as they fall into a dangerous position. Dewey replied with 926 for Oceanside this time, strengthening their lead at a perfect time. Niki was solid with 400 for the Tradewinds, but they still took the loss at 1358. Jason V. posted a simple 117 to cap the Waves win at 1825. Oceanside jumps to 9-6, while Commerce sinks to 5-8 in the loss.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates see no need to change, leaving Isabella on the bench, while the Torpedoes sit Mr. Snowman in hopes of a better result this time. Smudge provided a strong start with 695 for Infinity, although a bit weaker than in the last game. Delila never recovered from a slow starting pace, taking 343 for Atlantic in a weaker turn. Fluffina fell out of form with only 25 for the Torpedoes this time, a rare misstep from the star. Steven fired back with 584 for the Pirates, giving them the lead halfway through the game. Solaris tried to keep a steady pace for Infinity, gathering 358 on his turn to just cover the deficit. Klaus had a pacey attack, but dead balls on the pitch contributed to his fall at 209 as Atlantic's lead weakens. Shelley ripped a big 823 for the Torpedoes at the end, putting their final score at 1901 to force a big response from the hosts. Max tried to counter for the Pirates, but his 298 left them short at 1434. Infinity's revenge takes them to 10-4, while Atlantic slips back to 6-9.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves will sit Josie their eighth of nine straight at home, while the Torpedoes give Fluffina a needed rest in their third of eight straight on the road. Smudge slapped a crisp 483 for Infinity to lead off the scoring in this game. Snuggle couldn't get his pace up for Oceanside, struggling to a mediocre 248 on the first turn for the hosts. Solaris was okay with 289 for the Torpedoes, another below-par effort from the sophomore. Celestia couldn't match it with 266 for the Waves, which suffices to keep the deficit level for now. Shelley fell apart at 168 for Infinity, unable to handle a cluttered pitch and also suffering some fatigue. Dewey wasted the chance to catch up for Oceanside with a mere 162 on his turn, keeping things close and low-scoring. Mr. Snowman put himself in position to be the hero with 558 for the Torpedoes, their final score resting at 1498. Jason V. hit 424 for the Waves, not enough to save them from the loss at 1100 even. Infinity gets a boost to 11-4, while Oceanside falls back to 9-7.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves end their nine-game home stand with Dewey resting, while the Spiders give their captain Shadow a game off. Ted batted 354 for Web City at the start of the game, a decent effort to get the visitors started. Snuggle answered with 859 for Oceanside, giving the hosts a significant lead with his big effort. Sugar picked up 359 to mitigate the damage for the Spiders, keeping them competitive for now. Celestia hammered another 774 for the Waves, padding their lead by a large amount at the halfway mark of the game. Jack didn't have a great pace, but he did pick up 567 for Web City during this appearance. Josie tapped 272 to keep Oceanside in control as they ease up toward the end of the game. Shiny couldn't make the rally with 192 for the Spiders, leaving them at a loss with 1472. Jason V. took only 20 for the Waves, the quick finish putting them at 1925 in the win. Oceanside is up to 10-7, widening the gap between them and the 8-10 Web City squad.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Klaus takes his first game off for the Pirates now, while Jason V.  takes this one off for the Waves in a planned game off. Snuggle smashed another 866 for Oceanside, continuing one of the best performances in all the leagues this season. Delila accepted 591 rather than try her luck for a technical error replay, giving Atlantic their own stable start. Celestia countered with 680 for the Waves, extending their lead again with the strong attack. Isabella had a lively attack of 817 for the Pirates, cutting into the deficit a bit at the midway mark. Josie fired back with 696 for Oceanside, her fiery response restoring their lead. Steven wouldn't let them get away, smashing 1031 for Atlantic to give the hosts a small lead late in the game. Dewey crumbled at 162 for the Waves, putting their losing total at 2404 in a surprising turn of events. Max doubled down for the Pirates with 1058 on his turn, icing a massive win at 3497. Atlantic is up to 7-9, while Oceanside slides back to 10-8.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Pirates head on the road, giving Klaus a second game off in the A-Line Derby, while the Arrows sit their captain Ruby for performance. Delila kept the Atlantic attack in full force at the start, ripping 989 for the visitors on the first turn. Sally went for a technical error replay, but fell at 245 for Archtown in a weaker second try than the first. Isabella had a decent 312 to add to the Pirates lead, although far from the electric pace set earlier. Sleepy B. made up some ground with 448 for the Arrows, but the deficit remains steep halfway through. Steven had only a modest 218 for Atlantic in this one, weakening their lead again. Dusky made a push with 648 for Archtown, shrinking the deficit again with a player each to go after her turn. Max topped off the Pirates offense with his 400, leaving them at 1919, potentially not yet safe. Wild Thing couldn't rally back with 312 for the Arrows, their losing total sitting at 1653. Atlantic survives the scare to get to 8-9, while Archtown is 5-11 on the year.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Tradewinds leave Lionel on the bench, while the Spiders sit Jack as the stronger hitting players both rest. Tigerette wasted no time in establishing control for Commerce, clobbering 933 on the opening turn of the game. Shadows countered with 921 to keep things essentially even after his pacey start for Web City. Taylor shot back with 658 for the Tradewinds, giving them a slightly smaller second try at a lead. Ted fired back with 488 for the Spiders, a decent turn but not enough to cover the deficit this time either. Rosemary slipped up at 338 for Commerce, weakening their lead again with only an acceptable output. Sugar wasted the chance to catch up, falling at a middling 264 for the trailing Web City team. Niki had mostly good fortune with deflections, ending at 624 to nearly secure the Tradewinds at 2553. Shiny came nowhere near the mark at 240 for the Spiders, giving them a loss at 1913. Commerce rises to 6-8, passing the 8-11 Web City team.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Flames finish a five-game road trip with Briana again on the bench, while Rosemary sits for the Tradewinds in this one. Crystal had a precise swing for Queens, hauling in a massive 952 at the start of the game. Tigerette answered with 456 for Commerce, recovering less than half of the deficit. Violetta took 319 on the second attack, weakening the Flames lead with the okay performance. Taylor countered with 745 for the Tradewinds, closing the deficit with the fantastic response. Kyle tried to make a push for Queens, but a deflection cut him off at 139 as their lead becomes unstable. Lionel did well with 451 for Commerce, putting them ahead with a player each to go. Hannah fired back with 596 for the Flames at the end, forcing the hosts to respond to the visitors' final score of 2006. Niki did her part with 542 to secure the win for the Tradewinds at 2194. Commerce rises to 7-8, while Queens takes a knock back to 8-12.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The A-Line Derby gets another look, with Sally sitting for the visitors and Steven taking a game off for the hosts. Ruby couldn't fight off the offerings all that well, crashing out at 101 for Archtown on a weak first turn. Delila fired back with 567 for Atlantic, keeping them in control at the start again. Sleepy B. had a decent 322 for the Arrows, but they remain behind despite her effort. Isabella had only 240 for the Pirates this time, undermining their lead a bit at the midpoint of the game. Dusky pulled Archtown ahead on 799 on her attack, the good turn adding a bit more intrigue to the late part of the game. Klaus looked fresh after his extended rest for Atlantic, smacking 734 to restore their lead late in the game. Wild Thing covered the deficit with 448 for the Arrows, putting their score at 1670 overall. Max didn't have much for the Pirates, but his 196 secured their third derby win at 1737. Atlantic continues to rise to 9-9, while Archtown falls farther to 5-12.

That's all for this week in Elite. I hope to get Tournament games done next for pool, but failing that, Premier will be played tomorrow morning for sure.
