Select Cricket 2018 - Week 10

Select action is back, with teams edging toward midseason now. We begin this week with...

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Meteors begin the week on a road doubleheader, with Vincent on the bench, while the Defenders sit Hughbert in this meeting. Mams didn't do all that well for Viewpoint Sound, starting with 231 in a tough appearance for the visiting captain. Bianca answered with 416 for Southridge, giving them a slight edge after the first turn. Hoot made a push for the Meteors, but a bad swing ended his turn at just 217, barely covering the deficit. Debby countered with 596 for the Defenders, providing a stronger attack to boost their lead at the midway mark. Nibbles took 384 back for Viewpoint Sound on his turn, but they remain behind at this point. Stephanie fired back with 610 for Southridge, the fiery attack serving to extend their lead again. Dani had only 150 for the Meteors, leaving them at a loss with 982. Caitlin tapped 297 for the Defenders in the end, securing their win at 1919. Southridge continues to rise to 14-2, while Viewpoint Sound slips out of second to 9-6.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Meteors head farther east for the next game, benching Dani this time, while the Sharks play without Salmo in this first of a three-game home stand. Mams gathered 497 for Viewpoint Sound this time, setting them up for a more successful effort. Graham kept things close, chipping 400 for Eastside on the opening turn. Hoot's rough week for the Meteors continued, his 216 weakening their lead this time. Chelsea took no time in rallying for the Sharks, smacking 894 to give them the lead at the halfway point. Nibbles fired back with 742 for Viewpoint Sound, keeping them in the fight despite their general lack of offense. Gizmo countered with 497 for Eastside, holding off the attack to keep the hosts ahead for now. Vincent picked up pace in a flurry at the end of his turn, grabbing 450 for the Meteors to end their offense at 1905, forcing the hosts to reply. Cubby picked up 234, doing enough to earn the Sharks a win at 2025. Eastside rises to 9-10, bumping Viewpoint Sound down to 9-7.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems try to recapture some of last week's success, sitting Smokey, while the Prestige begin a four-game road trip with Katelynn on the bench. Acorn slugged 1041 for Lighton on the opening turn, putting them in good position from the start. Rosalina had a decent 349 for Diamond, but they start the game at a significant deficit. Spirit answered with 498 for the Prestige, a strong effort to support their lead on the second attack. Citrus picked up 324 for the Gems, allowing the deficit to grow a bit more at the midway point. Nicole fired back with 482 for Lighton, another strong attack to pad the lead for the visitors. Pedey made a good push with 756 for Diamond, cutting into the deficit, but probably not enough to flip the game around. Waluigi tacked on 583 for the Prestige, icing their offense at a hefty 2604. Cassandra pushed back with 495 for the Gems, but they took the loss at 1924. Lighton continues to rise to 10-5, while Diamond drops to 5-16.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs try to keep their rip saw offense going without Hoppy, while the Spurs sit Strawberry for a long-awaited rest. Spice did well at the start for Victoria, hauling in 479 to set the visitors up initially. Avril showed a bit of rust for Southern, falling at 235 as they'll start from behind this time. Yekaterina surged forward with 640 for the Spurs, strengthening their lead quite nicely. Panda fired back with 888 for the Monarchs, keeping things competitive in a high-scoring game at the halfway point. Sage got knocked back at 271 for Victoria, weakening their lead this time against a dangerous opponent. Pounce added a supportive 737 for Southern, putting them well ahead heading into the final players' turns. Wario gained 327 for the Spurs, but this left them at 1717 in the loss. Dominic accepted 543 for the Monarchs rather than replaying for a technical error, his good game giving them 2403. Southern jumps to 13-7, while Victoria drops to 7-11.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks play their second of a three-game home stand against the Crowns. Jake and Gizmo are tabbed to rest after appearances in pool yesterday. Kayla had a tough start for Royal, taking 194 on the first turn as they'll try to build from here. Graham kept it close at the start, but his lack of pace dropped him at 189 for Eastside in a slow start on both sides. Jeremias answered with 544 for the Crowns, giving them a nice lead on a much improved second attack. Chelsea did even better with a massive 980 for the Sharks, putting the hosts distinctly ahead. Nightfur launched 923 in response for Royal, again putting the pressure on the hosts to make a response. Cubby didn't hold back with 784 for Eastside, covering the deficit for an advantage late in the game. Cassie butchered the appearance with 4 points for the Crowns, leaving them short at 1665. Salmo capped the Sharks win with 425 for a total of 2378. Eastside had quite a fight to get to 10-10, while Royal drops back to 7-10.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are without Bryant, while the Spurs rest Strawberry as both of those players appeared in pool yesterday. Spice blasted 1381 for Victoria on the opening turn, a brutal attack that sees the hosts start from way behind. Whiskers got tangled up quickly at 87 for Maplewood, doing virtually nothing to combat the massive deficit. Yekaterina flipped another 510 for the Spurs, adding a supple extension to their lead. Diddley had a weak 158 as the Lumberjacks appear ill-prepared to battle in this game. Sage started with pace for Victoria, but a quick drop-off left her at 400 by the end of her turn, still plenty to support the lead. Gabe did fine for Maplewood until a high-arcing ball caught him off-guard to end his turn at 487, a small dent in a large deficit. Wario made a mess of his turn with only 20 for the Spurs, but they are likely to win with 2311. Summer grabbed 480 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them with a total of 1212 in the loss. Victoria bounces to 8-11, passing the 9-13 Maplewood side.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks are choosing to rest their captain Graham against the Prestige, who have Nicole on the bench for rest. Acorn began with a strong 616 for Lighton, another example of his stable presence at the top of their lineup. Chelsea got wiped out at 313 as a fast offering took her wicket a bit early for Eastside's liking. Spirit answered with a massive 1019 for the Prestige, the second attack taking their lead to new heights. Gizmo had only 128 for the Sharks, a bit slow to shake off the rust from his game off. Katelynn provided another excellent attack with 592 for Lighton, boosting their lead once again. Cubby picked up 319 for Eastside, but they don't look to have much of a chance in this one. Waluigi did alright with 304 for the Prestige, icing their likely winning total at 2531. Salmo was disoriented from the start against his former team, and his measly 5 points left the Sharks at 765 in the loss. Lighton rises to 11-5, while Eastside takes a step back at 10-11.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems have a tall task ahead, resting Pedey for what seems like a lost cause heading in against the Defenders, who have Hughbert reserved today. Bianca got beat on a deflection at 112 for Southridge, an early exit for the sophomore. Diamond's Rosalina took 270 on her turn, not exactly creating a large lead for the hosts early on. Debby had a much stronger second attack for the Defenders with a firm 808. Citrus tried to fight back but fell at 415, her pace rising rapidly before a high hit ended her turn. Southridge got ample support from Stephanie, who lined 603 in a supporting attack to extend the lead. Smokey couldn't come up with much in response, falling at 225 for Diamond. Caitlin poked 416 for the Defenders at the end, bringing their final score up to 1939. Cassandra had only 169 for the Gems at the end, leaving them in a loss with 1079. Southridge did their job to get to 15-2, while Diamond sinks to 5-17 with the loss.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors get to host the return fixture after a loss to the Sharks earlier this week. Salmo sits for the visitors, while Mams is on the bench for the hosts. Graham had a decent 312 for Eastside to start off the game in decent form for the visitors. Hoot answered with a similar 320 for Viewpoint Sound, giving them a tiny initial lead. Chelsea answered with 398 for the Sharks, good for a slightly stronger second lead. Nibbles couldn't keep up for the Meteors, falling at only 84 points at the halfway mark. Gizmo rallied with 584 for Eastside on his turn, furthering their lead with the strong outing. Vincent rolled a ball too hard off of his bat, ending at a mediocre 240 as the deficit worsens for Viewpoint Sound. Cubby piled on with 484 for the Sharks, capping their offense at 1778. Dani fell with only 149 for the Meteors, barely putting up a fight as they lose with 793. Eastside jumps to 11-11, quickly gaining on the 9-8 Viewpoint Sound team.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Sharks complete the road doubleheader with Cubby on the bench for rest, while Cobalt takes a seat for performance for the Wolves. Graham had another decent but not outstanding game, hauling in 384 for Eastside to lead off this time. Juno answered with 359 for Stonebridge, who trail ever-so-slightly after the first turn. Chelsea responded with a big 599 for the Sharks, strengthening their lead with the second attack. Frosty was less fortunate in her performance, with a deflected ball taking her out at 99 points for the Wolves. Gizmo faltered a bit with 248 for Eastside, but their lead continues to grow at this stage of the game. Hershey tried to attack with pace, but he sent a ball too high and ended with 96 for the straggling Stonebridge team. Salmo popped 521 for the Sharks on this turn, putting them at 1752 overall. Vladimir tried to make a push with 471 for the Wolves, but they still lost with 1025. Eastside continues to rise to 12-11, while Stonebridge is 8-13 after another disappointing effort.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems try to get leverage against a recently-hot Crowns team. Cassandra sits for the hosts while Jeremias takes the bench for the visitors. Kayla hammered 836 for Royal on the opening turn, setting the visitors up quite nicely. Rosalina collapsed at 126 for Diamond, not even getting close to matching the opposing attack. Jake crashed out at 119 for the Crowns, potentially re-opening the door for the hosts. Citrus tried a backhand settle on a fast offering, but she ended up out of action at 90 points for the Gems. Nightfur supplemented the Royal offense quite well with her 851, likely putting the game out of reach now. Pedey took a replay after a technical error, tripling his output on the second try as he grabbed 300 for Diamond. Cassie slapped 319 for the Crowns at the end, sealing their likely win at 2125. Smokey made a push with 479 for the Gems, but they were far short at 995 in the loss. Royal is up to 8-10, while Diamond sinks to 5-18.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs host the Specters to end this week in Select, with Mitchell sitting for the visitors while Panda rests for the hosts. Sydney had a low-pace turn for Harrison, unable to find a groove before exiting at 204 points. Avril started better but quickly fell apart for Southern, bailing with only 157 in a low-scoring start to the game. Twinkie II answered with a better 480 for the Specters, boosting their lead on the second attack. Hoppy picked up 353 for the Monarchs, but they remain behind halfway through the game. Lexi pounded another 809 for Harrison, putting the visitors far ahead after that burst of offense. Pounce sank at 247 for Southern, unable to cope with the pressure of having to catch up. Rudolph had only 199 for the Specters, icing their offense at 1692. Dominic couldn't make a comeback, falling at 384 as the Monarchs lost with 1141. Harrison rises to 9-12, while Southern takes a step back to 13-8.

That's all for Week 10 in Select. Elite will be starting their Week 10 slate tomorrow, which should also herald the return of Tournament play.
