Tournament 2018 - Round 1 Day 7

We're back with a brand new day of games. First up...

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Hoppy v. Rosalina. These two sophomores are set to battle in 8-ball with the blue cue. Diamond's Rosalina ripped a six-ball run in game 1 on her first turn, and while she was well ahead, Southern's Hoppy accidentally struck the 8 into the top left to gift the win to Rosalina, who holds a 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Rosalina lacked a big run in game 2, and while the Monarchs' Hoppy had a four-ball run early, she didn't support it well. Rosalina stayed closed all game and won with the last pair of shots to clinch the series at 2-0. Game 3 saw Rosalina try to get crafty with a bank shot, which illegally potted the 8 at the end to give Hoppy a win. Rosalina still advances on a 2-1 series win.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Cobalt. The blue cue remains in action for 12-ball. Stonebridge's Cobalt had a decent start in a tough game 1, and while he slipped behind Pearl's Neopolitan temporarily, a double-pot of the 12 to the bottom side and 9 to the top left won him the game for a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Cobalt gave a wild-card ball away on the break to the Surfers' Neopolitan in game 2, but he still managed to have enough time to toy with the positioning on his final shot and make it before Neopolitan could catch up. Cobalt secured the series at 2-0 with this win. Game 3 went even better for Cobalt, who had a pair of solids on the break. Neopolitan had a nice deflected shot to pot the 15 at the top side, but Cobalt answered with a four-ball run-out to take the sweep at 3-0 and advance to the second round.

Intel Center, Diamond: Citrus v. Sydney Sierota. Two stars of troubled teams meet in Rotation with the silver cue. Diamond's Citrus scratched on the break of game 1, and Harrison's Sydney erupted for a five-ball run. This paced her attack in the eventual 8-2 thumping that gave the visitor a 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Sydney started slower this time, but she twice used defensive plays to induce illegal contact by the Gems' Citrus, and those plays yielded six points for Sydney. She had an early pair, and then a four-ball run-out to win 8-4, clinching the series at 2-0. Sydney dealt one more devastating blow to Citrus in game 3, chipping her way to an 8-0 win that ended with a three-ball run-out for a 3-0 sweep. Sydney cruised through this series to get to the second round.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Luigi v. Cobalt. A pair of sophomores engage in 9-ball with the silver cue. Stonebridge's Cobalt had the best stretch of game 1 with a three-ball run in the middle, but while North Modernistic's Luigi did block one of his own shots, he would make the final pair to get the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Luigi poached another win in game 2, watching as the Wolves' Cobalt pulled off a five-ball run that ended with a failed bank on the 9, which he cut to the top left for the win that made it a 2-0 series. Cobalt made sure a five-ball run in game 3 wouldn't go to waste, making the 9 on his first try to get a win. Luigi took the series 2-1 after playing an opportunistic style to advance to the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Salmo v. Vladimir Vasilyev. A sophomore hosts a rookie for 15-ball with the blue cue. Game 1 showed the inexperience on both sides, although Eastside's Salmo was better at leaving Stonebridge's Vladimir with indirect shots. A long chase on the 8 ended with Salmo blasting it and scratching while potting the 15 illegally, gifting Vladimir the win and 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Vladimir did better to stand up for himself in game 2, still erring a bit too often, but answering a four-ball run from the Sharks' Salmo with one of his own to end the game in a win. This secured the series at 2-0 for Vladimir. Game 3 went completely to Vladimir, who had a five-ball run early on and a three-ball run-out in the end to take an easy win over Salmo for the 3-0 series sweep to advance to the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Twinkie I. A rookie challenges a veteran on a new team to Accuracy with the blue cue. Terrace City's Quincy had a favorable break in game 1, as Pacific's Twinkie I missed three shots early on. Quincy wasn't perfect, but a 1-6 win gives him a 1-0 series lead with confidence. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I cleared up her performance in game 2, going perfect and just about shot for shot with the Knights' Quincy, until the host had a couple of late misses to produce the 0-2 score. The series is tied at 1. Game 3 saw Twinkie I try to maintain a small lead late in the game, only to miss on the last ball and the overtime break, allowing Quincy tap-ins for the 2-3 win. Quincy took the series 2-1 to get to the second round.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Charli XCX v. Klaus. Talented young players meet in 7-ball, another series with the blue cue today. Game 1 took little time to complete, as Tysini's Charli had a four-ball run early on. Atlantic's Klaus answered with a pair of balls, but Charli got the 7 for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Klaus opened with a three-ball run on his first turn of game 2, answered swiftly by the Hummingbirds' Charli with her own three-ball run. Charli missed on the 7 twice, and Klaus tapped it in to get the win, tying the exciting series at 1. Charli failed to show up when most needed in game 3, as Klaus had her on the ropes with his five-ball run and she missed her only shot. Klaus buried the last two shots for the win, taking the series 2-1 to get to the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fluffina v. Bear. A former captain takes on a current on in 10-ball with the red cue. An ugly game 1, especially around the 5, went the way of Infinity's Fluffina in the end, as she let Whitewater's Bear clear the table a bit with illegal shots before cashing in with some legal ones of her own. Fluffina took the win for a 1-0 lead in the series. The Shores' Bear had a comeback effort in game 2, wavering a bit early on before blasting a seven-ball run-out to stun the Torpedoes' Fluffina. Bear's surge tied the series at 1. Fluffina had full control at the start of game 3, but she watched it fade as Bear dominated the back half of the game, ending on a three-ball run-out to take the series 2-1 as he advances to the second round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Panda v. Easter. It's a little bit Rivalry, a little bit captains battle, and a whole lot of Spanish Derby in this Accuracy series with the red cue. Southern's Panda was a bit shaky at the start of the game, and while Todavía's Easter had a late miss, Panda wasted the chance to force overtime, and Easter won 1-2 for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 followed a similar pattern, although the Stills' Easter took her first miss earlier. Easter would also miss on the last ball, and the Monarchs' Panda just barely made it on a second option bank to the bottom left, winning 1-2 to tie the series at 1 ahead of the decisive game. Panda and Easter kept it close again in game 3, with Easter only fading after falling behind late, as Panda would take the 1-3 win. Panda's 2-1 series win puts him in the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Spirit v. Stinky. The blue cue returns for another Accuracy series between veterans. Lighton's Spirit scratched on the break and also missed her next shot, never having a chance to challenge Freedom's Stinky on level terms. Stinky nearly got caught, but won 2-5 as Spirit faded late, giving him a 1-0 series lead. The never-fazed Spirit rebounded perfectly in game 2, as the Prestige star didn't miss a shot and even had a double-pot to defeat the Cascades' Stinky 0-1 for the win. Spirit's win tied the series at 1, setting up an exciting finish. Game 3 started out close, but Spirit managed to push Stinky away by the end, earning a 3-6 win to take the series 2-1. Spirit heads off to the second round with the series win.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Bright v. Quincy. The red cue is back in this series of 15-ball. Neither player grabbed game 1 by the horns, leaving short and choppy turns. Terrace City's Quincy had the first miss at the 15, and he wouldn't get a second chance, as Pearl's Bright tapped it in for the win and a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 ended much quicker, as the Surfers' Bright attempted to kick the 2 but clipped the 15 first, potting it illegally to gift the win to the Knights' Quincy, which ties the series at 1. Game 3 went back and forth, with Quincy getting the bulk of the offense early on. Bright made a push later in the game, but he scratched as he potted the 14, and Quincy made no mistake to pot the 15 from ball-in-hand for the 2-1 series win that gets him to the second round.

IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gal Gadot v. Prism. The final series today is Rotation with the silver cue featuring two inexperienced players. North Modernistic's Gal had a better start in game 1, but she fell behind in the middle. Todavía's Prism stalled out too soon, and Gal replied with a couple of short runs to win 8-5 for a 1-0 lead in the series. The Nighthawks' Gal had a good performance in game 2, highlighted by a five-ball run at one point. The resulting distribution of the table frustrated the Stills' Prism, and Gal eventually picked up an 8-1 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Prism made a bit of redemption for her previous showing with an 8-0 shutout over Gal in game 3, but Gal took the 2-1 series win and advances to the second round.

That's all for today. Tomorrow, we've got Premier in the morning and Day 8 in the afternoon.
