UPCL Cricket: Playoffs First Round - Day 3

We're back to play the first game in the lower-seeded stadiums. We begin with...

Verizon Field, Pacific: The series is tied between these two rival sides. Valencia made a big appearance with 695 for Golden, staking out a sizable lead for the visitors early on. Starlight had 374 for Pacific at the start, putting them behind early on. Dusty stayed solid with 336 for the Pilots, keeping their lead steady. Ms. Kitty covered the second wave of damage with 355 for the Volcanoes, but they're still behind. Strut faltered with a meager 78 for Golden, leaving the door open for them to be caught. Jack pulled in 279 for Pacific, getting them closer before the final players come to bat. A. Charlton didn't inspire much confidence for the Pilots, with her 102 putting them at a final of 1211. Leonette blew it for the Volcanoes, with her measly 84 putting them in a loss with 1092. Golden escapes with the win and goes up 2-1 in the series.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige did well on the road, and might just finish the series if they can stay strong at home. Smudge collapsed on a paltry 84 for Infinity, exactly the opposite of what her team needed. Acorn was better, hitting 373 for Lighton to give them a noticeable lead from the start. Shelley tried to settle one with her backhand, but she hit it too high, ending with 175 for the Torpedoes. Spirit couldn't really cement the Prestige lead, getting tangled up on a swing and taking just 101 as the lead loses a bit of safety. Gabe had a costly false start on his turn, and he produced 141 after the 50% penalty. He would have covered the deficit on a clean turn. Twinkie I likely secured the game, pounding out 832 for Lighton to bring their lead up to unreachable heights. Whiskers had 343 in a solid individual effort, but the Torpedoes saw their offense crater again at 743 in the loss. Lydia tapped 57 for the Prestige, icing their efforts at 1363. Lighton is on the verge of a sweep, holding a 3-0 series lead.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Eagles have done all they needed to so far, and few doubt they'll win the series. Goldy had a bad deflection to start the game, taking only 54 for Everton in an unusually poor effort. Misty couldn't turn in anything significant, giving Westside a minimal lead on her 72. Puff III backed her captain up quite nicely, slicing 768 to give the Eagles a more confident lead on the second attack. Goatee got shut down with a pathetic 46 for the Rockers, and they are now in trouble. Cleo didn't do all that well for Everton, posting only 152. Midnight hauled in a modest 272 for Westside, but they are still way back of the pace. Blizzard wiped that out with 279 for the Eagles, putting their total at 1253 in a presumptive victory. Chicky Phil made the rally with 474 for the Rockers, but they came up short at 684, taking the loss. Everton leads the series 3-0 and will look for the sweep next time out.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors are hoping some time at home will turn their offense around. Princess made sure to put the pressure on, hammering 626 for Tysini to open the scoring. Twilight again had an early exit, posting only 112 before bowing out as Central is in a familiar position. Leandra tacked on another 511 for the Hummingbirds, making their lead very sturdy. Dustin got shut down at 265 for the Warriors, failing to cut into the deficit much. Charli has yet to really click in this series, but she scored a simply 208 to keep Tysini in a powerful spot. Noelle had 297 for Central, which still didn't help the hosts make much progress. Bright tapped a small 72 for the Hummingbirds, and they close with 1417 in what should be a win. Gizmo tried to do too much at the start, earning a 50% penalty for a false start that cut his offense to 142. The Warriors lost with 816. Tysini has the defending champions on the ropes with a 3-0 series lead.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades have a shocking series lead, and look to add to it here. Terrace City got 286 out of Kiwi this time, as she puts up an average effort early on. Jasmine choked with only 87 for Freedom, putting them behind initially. Jennifer could have done better with only 96 for the Knights, not helping their lead a lot. Stinky had only 203 for the Cascades, but he did dent the deficit at the halfway mark of this game. Oreo belted 1013 for Terrace City, making a breakthrough in what had been a tight game. Roxy had a great pace but no longevity for Freedom, failing to answer well with her 193, and they've fallen behind deeply now. Stripes went with another 330 for the Knights, icing their score at 1725 in a highly successful outing. Nikolai had no resistance for the Cascades, giving them a measly final of 513 after he hit just 30 points. Freedom still leads the series 2-1.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: This Game 3 will see one team gain an inside edge. Snowball made a mess of her turn, hitting a pathetic 64 for Swordpoint as they'll start from very near the bottom. Watermelon didn't full take advantage, but her 208 paces Pearl to a minor lead early on. Dreamy stumbled on 98 for the Blades, failing to cover the small deficit. Neopolitan made things worse for the Surfers, with only 33 on her third straight bad game. Shawn also couldn't cover the deficit for Swordpoint with only 64 points to his name in a game embarrassing to both teams and the league. Wings broke out with 494 for Pearl, giving them a stronger lead that will probably suffice in the low-scoring affair. Stealth's 124 meant the Blades lost with 350, getting beat just about as bad as they beat their opponents in game 2. Cowzart had only 107 for the Surfers, but it worked to get them to 842 and the win. Pearl takes a 2-1 series lead, but not with much confidence.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates would love to see the series start to head in their favor from its currently tied position. Commerce's Tigerette made sure that would take a lot of effort, ripping 560 to put the visitors ahead first. Delila answered with 348 for Atlantic, making a significant impact. Ice Cream slapped another 425 for the Tradewinds, adding on nicely to their lead. Amber faltered with 180, and the Pirates face a big deficit at the halfway mark. Lionel kept the Commerce lead steady, producing 327 on his turn. Americus got distracted on her turn and ended up with only 89 for Atlantic, likely assuring their defeat. Lorde couldn't handle a cluster of balls at the end of her turn, and her 178 put the Tradewinds at a total of 1490. Dominic couldn't save the day for the Pirates, as his 117 put them at 734 in the loss. Commerce owns a 2-1 series lead now.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Swifts are up 2-0 in the series, and haven't yet been threatened. Patches carved out 436 for Boston to lead things off with another strong appearance from the captain. Snuggle answered with 152 for Oceanside, leaving them quite short early on. Puff II poked another 288 for the Swifts, keeping their lead at a reasonably high level. Bells got beat on a swing and miss play, scoring a meager 69 for the Waves as their situation gets more dire. Gradley hit another 200 for Boston, as they are somewhat cruising in this game. Alyssa made some progress for Oceanside, striking 464 to cut into the deficit ahead of the final players' batting turns. Sweetheart had only 104 for the Swifts, getting beat on a deflection, and this meant they closed at 1028. Pounce came up short with only 130 for the Waves, and they lost with 815. Boston takes a 3-0 series lead.

There should be the game 4s posted by Monday night, and hopefully some teams will advance to the next round to thin the schedule out and make this easier to do.
