We're here to get closer to closing out the first round of the playoffs now. We'll be making a more concerted effort to wrap up the playoffs before the pool tournament ends. With that, we begin with...
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are seeking advancement here, hoping to finally put away the Pirates. Delila tried to make a backhand stop, but she got overwhelmed and bowed out at 225 for Atlantic in a mediocre start. Tigerette squandered a chance for Commerce, hitting just 177 as they'll start from behind. Amber pummeled 696 for the Pirates, boosting their lead very well in a strong appearance. Ice Cream couldn't keep up, hitting a measly 113 for the Tradewinds as they're far back. Americus tacked on another 339 for Atlantic, keeping their performance up while they look to extend the series. Lionel appeared to be doing well, but ended up with 215 for Commerce after a backhand threw him off. Dominic slugged 832 on his turn, giving the Pirates a likely victorious final score of 2092. Lorde picked up 280, but the Tradewinds lost badly with 785 overall. They still lead the series 3-2, but they'll have to head east again after messing this game up.
Amazon Field, Golden: This series has been as tight as promised, and one team will gain the edge with a win in this game 5. Starlight ripped 899 for Pacific in a massive start for the visiting team. Valencia recovered a good portion with 420 for Golden, cutting the deficit nearly in half. Ms. Kitty nearly pulled off a backhand for the Volcanoes, but she was fine without it in smacking 733. Dusty blasted back with 904 for the Pilots, covering a bit more of the deficit with a strong performance. Jack stumbled with 120 after being hit with a 50% penalty for his very early false start, which destabilized the Pacific lead. Strut didn't fully cover the deficit, but his round-best 289 got Golden closer still, with a player each to go for this pivotal game. Leonette also suffered a false start penalty of 50%, ending at 89 points to give the Volcanoes 1841 overall. A. Charlton failed to bring it in, hitting a meager 45 as the Pilots lose with 1658. Pacific has a chance to advance at home, now holding a 3-2 series lead.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: These West Division rivals are tied through four, making this game important. Watermelon fumbled a bit at the start for Pearl, hitting a meager 80 on her opening turn. Snowball answered with 388 for Swordpoint, establishing an early lead for the hosts. Neopolitan couldn't bounce back for the Surfers, scoring 135 in another difficult appearance. Dreamy had an admirable effort, dealing with an extremely cluttered pitch to line 681 for the Blades, extending their lead at the halfway mark. Wings slipped at 33 for Pearl, and they appear set to take the loss in this one. Shawn rallied with 519 for Swordpoint, boosting the lead significantly again. Cowzart came up with 482 for the Surfers, but it was far from enough, and they lost with 730 total. Stealth tapped 152 for the Blades, giving them 1740 in the win. Swordpoint is up 3-2 in the series, but will be on the road for their first attempt to finish it.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: This is another series that is tied right now, but the road team has won every game so far, boding well for the Cascades. Jasmine belted 639 for Freedom, setting the tone early on. Kiwi faltered with only 145 for Terrace City, leaving them far behind at the start of the game. Stinky provided a solid 400 for the Cascades, adding nicely to their lead. Jennifer managed 144 for the Knights, but they are losing ground as the game continues. Roxy unleashed 799 for Freedom, nearly assuring them of victory with the huge showing. Oreo's 124 guaranteed for Terrace City that it would be a lost game, which will amp the pressure up on them. Nikolai iced the Cascades win with his 267, for a final score of 2105. Stripes couldn't find any control, ending at 112 and giving the Knights 525 in a brutal loss. The Cascades lead the series 3-2, and will look to break the home curse next time out.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: These bitter Southwestern Rivals tangle again, with the Prestige working on take 2 for advancing. Acorn set things up nicely for Lighton, hitting 862 on a big opening turn. Smudge was persistent if not elegant in producing 479 for Infinity, keeping their hopes alive. Spirit botched her turn with only 42 for the Prestige, leaving them vulnerable. Shelley served up a crisp 375 for the Torpedoes, getting them very close at the halfway mark of the game. Twinkie I crashed with 16 for Lighton, and they'll almost certainly be behind late in the game. Gabe stood tall with 408 for Infinity, pulling them ahead just before the final players come to bat. Lydia pulled in 335 for the Prestige, but they suffered a narrow defeat at 1255 total. Whiskers took 135 for the Torpedoes, icing their score at 1397 in the win. Infinity stays alive again, but Lighton heads home ahead 3-2 in the series and looking for the knockout punch.
We'll probably have Game 6 posted by the end of the week, and any potential Game 7s likely over the weekend.
