We're back for the middle segment of the week, and it begins in...
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds hope to get their season back on track against a Blades team turning in another elite start to the year. Snowball had a mediocre effort to open the game, hitting 273 for Swordpoint, giving them very little cushion early on. Tigerette had only 64 for Commerce, squandering a perfect chance to establish the hosts. Dreamy carried the load for the Blades offense pretty well, smashing her way to 826 in a very productive turn for the veteran star. Ice Cream tried to chug along her turn, but she was erratic in her placement, and finished with only 272 for the Tradewinds. Bandit lost a bit of ground for Swordpoint, as the rookie managed 217 on his weak turn. Lionel couldn't get his offense going, a recurring theme for Commerce, as he took a measly 126, allowing the deficit to grow late in the game. Stealth batted 517 for the Blades in this appearance, a solid mark to bring them to 1833 in a presumptive win. Lorde led the Tradewinds in offense, scoring 282 as they took a steep loss with a total of 744. Swordpoint is 9-3 for the season, while Commerce drops to 3-6.
Subway Field, Stonebridge: The heavily-burdened Wolves host a well-rested Union side in this match, the last game of the week for the Wolves and first for the Union. Ms. Puppy nearly completed a backhand-forehand-triple hit move, but a deflection stopped her at 423 to give Modernistic a solid start. Juno had a decent first appearance against her former team, taking 368 for Stonebridge to keep them close. Daisy chipped 339 for the Union, keeping their lead fairly steady with her effort. Frosty broke her slump in a big way for the Wolves, blasting 1086 on her turn to give them a massive lead halfway through the game. Puff I couldn't make a sufficient reply, taking just 153 for Modernistic as they appear set to lose this one. Cobalt didn't do much either, with a meager 96 as his contribution to the Stonebridge offense. Strawberry managed 224 for the Union, giving them a losing final score of 1139. Prism brought the game to a quick end, taking a weak 92 for the Wolves to give them 1642 overall. Stonebridge's win takes them to 8-9 as they will rest before a long road trip, while the Union are 1-7 and now in sole possession of last place.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Specters look to build off their recent win as they close a five-game road trip at the Gems. Sydney was unable to perform on a similar level, falling at 185 for Harrison. Smokey crushed 1204 in response for Diamond, staking out a massive lead for the hosts early in the game. Twinkie II was a bit surprised her backhand play worked, causing her to have an errant hit on the next offering, ending her turn at 543 for the Specters. Citrus cancelled it out with 583 for the Gems, keeping them firmly in control at the halfway mark. Lexi did alright with 340 for Harrison in this appearance, but they're still far behind. Pedey stumbled at 113 for Diamond, weakening their lead a slight bit, but not enough to cause any real danger to the hosts. Sugar fell with 199 for the Specters on a bad backhand play, giving them 1267 in the loss. Rosalina provided a solid 390 for the Gems at the end, giving them a total of 2290 in a big win. Diamond jumps to 5-7, while Harrison rejoins a tie for last at 1-7.
Amazon Field, Golden: Two teams in the midst of the playoff hunt early on battle as the Sharpshooters make a short one-off trip to face the Pilots. Chris slashed his way to 777 for Capital City at the start, giving them a nice lead. Valencia had a number of awkward swings before bowing out at 94 for Golden, setting them in a deep hole. Missy crashed and burned badly for the Sharpshooters, taking a measly 40 points for a second straight road game. Dusty got taken out by a high-arcing deflection that traveled out of bounds, giving her only 240 for the Pilots as they remain far behind. Sprinkles launched another 513 for Capital City on her turn, strengthening the lead significantly. Strut pulled back with 410 for Golden, attempting to cut into the deficit a bit before the final players come to bat. Nicole supplied the Sharpshooters with 328 on her turn, giving them a total of 1658. A. Charlton had another dud game for the Pilots, with a pathetic 96 giving them a losing score of 840. Capital City gets the win to improve to 8-5, while Golden drops to 4-4 in the loss.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are looking for revenge against the Crowns, who are in the third of four straight road games. Nightfur didn't have the strongest opening attack, scoring 297 for Royal. Fluffina responded with a well-paced 439 for Maplewood, as they start the game with a lead. Jake answered with 527 for the Crowns, keeping them competitive as they earn at least a temporary lead. Diddley fired back with 1001 for the Lumberjacks, boosting their advantage at a critical moment halfway through the game. Kayla kept things close with her 535 for Royal, putting them within striking distance should the hosts stumble. Bryant lost a bit of ground with his 371 for Maplewood, but their lead is still significant with a player each to go. Hannah couldn't keep up for the Crowns, as she fell with 135 and gave them 1494 in the loss. Waluigi tacked on 336 for the Lumberjacks, icing their win at 2147. Maplewood is 8-0 at home and 11-7 overall, while Royal drops to 5-6 as the teams split their season series.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates play the second of three straight at home, while the Spurs embark on a three-game swing through eastern cities. Spice began with a flurry of great swings for Victoria, pacing herself to 695 to establish a nice lead for the visitors. Delila tried to match her opposite's tenacity and failed, ending with 295 for Atlantic as they'll play from behind. Yekaterina popped a ball up at the end of her turn, falling with 290 for the Spurs to nearly match the damage dealt against them. Pirates rookie Isabella looked shaky and inconsistent in her turn, and it showed when she added only 79 points to their offense. B. Chapman used a backhand to rally herself into the game, and she lasted for 436, padding Victoria's lead quite well with the performance. Americus had a mere 193 for Atlantic, missing her spot on a turn that's sure to doom the game for the hosts. Wario brought in 281 more for the Spurs, icing their total at 1702 in what should be a win. Klaus put the emphasis on should, as his rally for the Pirates saw him slug his way to 1260, giving them 1827 in the win, pulling off a massive comeback seen only a handful of times each season. This rally, which made Klaus a hero in Atlantic, put the team at 9-2, while Victoria drops to 3-6 with the loss.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Staying in the Eastern Hills, the Cascades begin a doubleheader at home, with the Defenders the first to come in. Bianca led off with 516 for Southridge, a solid performance to establish an early lead. Jasmine countered well for Freedom, as the captain pulled in 545 to give them the marginal lead. Debby replied with 471 for the Defenders, keeping the pace of the game high as they regain a smaller lead. Stinky pounded out 645 for the Cascades, giving them a more noticeable lead at the halfway point. Stephanie lined 668 for Southridge on her turn, once again stealing the lead away. Freedom is in trouble now, as Roxy couldn't pull a ball back from the edge of the stumps, ending at 173 when she poked it the wrong way, creating a deficit. Hughbert provided 335 for the Defenders leaving them at a final of 1990, which is far from safe in this high-scoring game. Nikolai tried a rally for the Cascades, going for 476, but this was not enough to avoid taking the loss with 1839. Southridge won a very gritty game to improve to 8-8, on par with the now 4-4 Freedom side.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: In the second game of their doubleheader, the Cascades host the Union, who are playing the first game of a road doubleheader that will see them cross the map for the next one. The Union are in the midst of a four-game road trip as well. Ms. Puppy couldn't maintain a high-pace game, bailing at 211 for Modernistic. Jasmine got unlucky as a ball skipped off the back of her bat and ended her turn at 18 points for Freedom. Daisy had 296 for the Union, just slightly unfortunate that her last swing didn't catch a safe spot. Stinky survived some early chaos, but got caught with a ball on his backhand at the end of his turn, giving the Cascades a modest lead with his 556. Puff I answered with 504 for Modernistic, doubling their output and putting the hosts in a tough spot. Roxy lifted 752 for Freedom on her turn, gaining a noticeable lead with the effort. Strawberry managed only 112 for the Union, giving them the loss with 1123. Nikolai grabbed 297 to bring the Cascades to 1623 in the win. Freedom ends the game at 5-4, going back above .500, while Modernistic falls again to 1-8 and has a long trip ahead of them.
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Union are now out on the coast, facing the Monarchs in the fifth of their six-game home stand. Ms. Puppy had another rough outing for Modernistic, managing to score 208 as they'll start with little hope for retaining the lead. Panda chugged along to 518 for Southern on his turn, giving them the initial lead. Daisy easily covered the deficit despite some early swing issues, as she put up 629 for the Union in a great outing. Hoppy took 225 for the Monarchs, but they are now slightly behind at the halfway mark in a close game. Puff I kept Modernistic fairly steady despite a very slow-developing turn, as she tacked on 351 to their lead. Pounce didn't get enough on his deflection to the back side, ending at 150 for Southern as the backhand hit failed him. Strawberry added 304 for the Union, hoping that 1492 will be enough for them to take the victory. Shannon provided quite the challenge for the Monarchs, slapping 438, but this left them short at 1331 in the loss. Modernistic improves to 2-8 with the win, while Southern is 3-5 after a competitive loss.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators play their twelfth home game already in a busy schedule, facing the Spurs in the middle of their three-game road trip. Spice got Victoria off to a hot start, lining 543 to give them a sizable opening attack. Shawn took many chaotic swings on his turn, thrashing his way to 823 for Midland as they'll take the first lead. Yekaterina showed excellent command for the Spurs, but a cluttered pitch late in the game cratered her score to a still-strong 703. Rainmane just barely covered the deficit with 448 for the Predators, keeping things very close at the halfway mark. B. Chapman faltered with 215 for Victoria, leaving them vulnerable. Leonardo was able to add marginally to the Midland lead, collecting 283 after facing a fierce blitz of offerings early in his turn. Wario drilled 627 for the Spurs at the end of the game, giving them a final of 2091 that could be tough to reach for the hosts. Fuchsia had only 304 in her for the Predators, giving them a loss with 1858. Victoria improves to 4-6 by pulling off this upset, sending Midland to 10-7 and some time off for the very busy side.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: This Southwest Division and Cluster Derby match promises to excite, as the Prestige kick off a four-game road trip against their local rivals, the Torpedoes. Acorn opened the scoring in decent form, producing 416 to get Lighton going. Smudge never showed comfort in her swing, and she only lasted long enough to take 213 for Infinity, putting them at an early deficit. Spirit answered her sister's attack with 348 for the Prestige, padding their lead a bit. Solaris smacked his way to 664 for the Torpedoes, keeping the game close as it hits its halfway mark. Twinkie I had 329 for Lighton, covering the deficit but not by a particularly large margin. Whiskers provided a large boost for Infinity, striking 647 to extend their lead with a player each to go. Salmo couldn't keep the Prestige alive, bringing in 401 as they fell at 1494. Mr. Snowman flexed a bit of muscle without any pressure on him, taking 804 for the Torpedoes to give them 2328 in the win. Infinity won the rivalry game, going to 8-4, while Lighton's first division game is a loss that sends them down to 5-5.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades make a quick stop at home to face an Arrows team in the fifth of six straight road games, with a bit of fatigue potentially setting in. Sally bumbled her swing early in her turn, ending at only 28 points for Archtown as they'll play from behind. Snowball didn't impress many fans either, taking 260 for Swordpoint to stake out a modest lead. Sleepy B. had only 76 for the Arrows as well, keeping them at a deficit in a low-scoring game so far. Dreamy added another 260 for the Blades, besting her sister as she saw a good turn fade very quickly in the middle. Ruby was done in by a tough deflection, also taking a meager 76 for Archtown as it appears their long journey has caught up with them a bit against a superior team. Bandit racked up 359 for Swordpoint, extending their lead again as it appears they'll take this game. Dusky refused to let the Arrows go down without a fight, bashing 768 to put them at 948 total, forcing a response from the hosts. Stealth tapped 177 for the Blades, sealing their win at 1056. Swordpoint improves to 10-3, while Archtown is knocked back to 5-10 with the loss.
I'll try to get the last portion of this week out on Friday, but life tends to get in the way, and no more so than it has this week.
