Select cricket returns on a Sunday, with the intent of playing most or all of its Week 9 slate. We begin with...
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: Both of these teams play three games this week, with the host Monarchs sitting Mams in this game, while the visiting Lumberjacks take the chance to rest Whiskers. Diddley kept a modest pace with 369 for Maplewood at the start, leaving them exposed initially. Panda answered with 497 for Southern on their first turn for the early lead. Summer stayed hot with 747 for the Lumberjacks on their second attack, pulling them noticeably ahead. Pounce pushed back with 627 for the Monarchs, keeping things fairly close at the halfway mark. Bryant faltered at 289 for Maplewood on his turn, unable to help the visitors more. Dominic made a small addition to Southern's lead with 346 on his turn, the game remaining tight at this late stage. Gabe hauled in 465 for the Lumberjacks, capping their offense at 1870. Salmo missed a low swing, ending with only 290 as the Monarchs took the loss with 1760. Maplewood had a nervous time in rising to 10-4, while Southern dips again to 4-14.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union end a three-game home stand but begin a doubleheader with Kodiak on the bench, while the Specters give Sydney S. regular rest. Twinkie II made good use of her lead-off chance, raking in 659 for Harrison. Ms. Puppy fired back with 609 for Modernistic, putting up a good resistance for a fiery first turn. Blizzard collected 470 for the Specters on the second attack, shrinking their lead just a little. Daisy countered with 456 for the Union, keeping the hosts within striking distance despite the slight slip. Lexi burst forward with 635 for Harrison, continuing to challenge the hosts to keep up. Puff I couldn't match that attack, her 396 causing Modernistic to fall noticeably behind for the first time. Rudolph popped 420 for the Specters at the end to cap their offense at 2184. Sydney C. dropped at 209 for the Union, their final score resting at 1670 in the loss. Harrison remains in the promotion zone at 11-5, while Modernistic falls back to 8-9.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Puff I cycles out of the Union lineup for regular rest as they complete a doubleheader, while the host Meteors sit Frosty for multiple reasons. Ms. Puppy had a mediocre 271 for Modernistic in this appearance, unable to make her pace last longer. Princess had only 227 for Viewpoint Sound, making it a slow start for the offense on each side. Daisy's run of positive road play ended with a mere 260 for the Union here. Hoot whacked 744 for the Meteors to give them a significant lead with the pacey attack. Kodiak notched 506 for Modernistic on his turn, which wasn't enough to reverse the deficit. Nibbles allowed the Viewpoint Sound lead to shrink a bit as he took 332 for the hosts. Sydney C. struggled again with 160 for the Union, leaving them at a loss with 1197. Dani tapped 336 to give the Meteors 1639 in the win. Viewpoint Sound floated to 7-6, passing the 8-10 squad from Modernistic along the way.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs rest Strawberry for performance reasons as they host a dangerous Nighthawks side sitting Lionel for rest. Peach attacked with pace and scooped up 625 for North Modernistic to take the early lead. Spice tried to match the intensity for Victoria, coming up a little short with 579 on her turn. Cheddar answered with 410 for the Nighthawks, making a decent addition to their lead on the second attack. Yekaterina made a little progress with 434 for the Spurs, shrinking the already-small deficit a little more. Gal changed her approach and hit a ball too high, closing with just 254 as North Modernistic's power continues to drop. Sage failed to capitalize on the chance, producing a measly 80 points to cause Victoria to lose ground late in the game. Luigi struggled with 150 for the Nighthawks at the end, leaving them vulnerable again with a final score of 1439. Mitchell snagged 335 for the Spurs at the end, setting their final score at 1428 in the narrow loss. North Modernistic escapes with the win to rise to 13-6, while Victoria slides to 12-8 with the heartbreaking loss.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems will put Pedey on the bench for regular rest after the lunch break, while the visiting Lumberjacks sit Bryant for the same reason as they end a five-game road trip. Whiskers picked up 364 for Maplewood in a mild return to the lineup. Shadow wrapped up 650 for Diamond to get their offense going in excellent form. Diddley replied with 562 for the Lumberjacks, a solid performance to cover the deficit lightly. Smokey countered with 470 to maintain a lead for the Gems midway through the game. Summer had a slow start and never recovered, falling at 102 for Maplewood to halt her hot stretch. Katelynn held her ground with 416 for Diamond, putting the hosts in a position to pull off an upset. Gabe surged with 678 for the Lumberjacks, forcing the hosts to respond to their final score of 1706. Leonardo answered in a big way with 839 for the Gems, securing the win at 2375. Diamond's upset gets them to 8-11, while Maplewood slides to 10-5.
IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks choose to sit Gal for rest in this meeting, while the visiting Sharks sit Cubby after his dud outing in this venue last week. Graham had to fight a technical error for Eastside, ending with 434 on his second attempt. Peach was unusually shaky with a simple 245 for North Modernistic in response. Chelsea also took a slide in production with 295 for the Sharks, adding only a small amount to their lead. Cheddar tried to help, but her backhand attempt cut her down at 280 as the Nighthawks remain in a trailing position. Taylor M. couldn't break the funk with 264 for Eastside, leaving them vulnerable again. Lionel answered with 454 for North Modernistic, keeping things close heading into the final turn despite not covering the deficit. Gizmo choked with only 50 for the Sharks at the end, setting their total at 1043. Luigi picked up just 180 for the Nighthawks, but it was enough to win at 1159. North Modernistic has been more lucky than good this week, rising to 14-6 atop the division, while Eastside drops to 2-11 with the embarrassing loss.
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks return home with Gizmo taking a benching, while the Monarchs make their first of two consecutive visits to Eastside with Salmo back on the bench. Mams chunked 707 for Southern right at the start, giving them a significant lead. Graham had a good pace going, but a high hit downed him at 351 for Eastside to halve the deficit. Panda chipped 103 for the Monarchs, weakening their lead dramatically with the failed play. Chelsea answered in a big way with 933 for the Sharks, carrying them to the lead at the halfway point. Pounce managed 328 for Southern on his turn, not enough to challenge their sudden deficit. Taylor M. enjoyed playing with the lead this time, piling on 596 for Eastside with her hefty supporting attack. Dominic tried to rally with 484 for the Monarchs, but they came up short with 1622 overall. Cubby ended with a mild 271 for the Sharks, icing their win at 2151, their best total of the season. Eastside is up to 3-11, while Southern drops to 4-15 with the loss.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks sit Summer for rest in their third and final game this week, while the Wolves bench Hershey for rest in their first of two games in week 9. Juno put up 714 for Stonebridge on the opening attack, signalling to the hosts that her side will not make it easy. Whiskers fired back with 560 for Maplewood, just a little short of the visitors' first mark. Cobalt added 425 on the second attack for the Wolves, causing their lead to weaken just a bit. Diddley doubled the Lumberjacks offense with 564 to greatly reduce the deficit at midway. Wild Thing posted 361 in an acceptable outing for Stonebridge, but the hosts are pressuring. Bryant's 529 for Maplewood helped his side storm ahead with a player each to go. Vladimir's 360 gave the Wolves a total of 1860 to force a response from the hosts. Gabe canceled it out with 363 for the Lumberjacks to seal their win at 2016. Maplewood is back to winning after a rough road trip, now at 11-5, while Stonebridge slid to 8-7.
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters will make it a two-game absence for Sydney S., unwilling to break their chemistry from a previous win, while Sage sits for the Spurs. Spice started with a meaningful swing, but she got beat on her backhand and ended with 267 for Victoria. Twinkie II answered with 686 for Harrison in a big turn to give the hosts the initial lead. Yekaterina collected 494 for the Spurs on her second attempt after a false start, narrowly covering the deficit. Blizzard smashed 1200 for the Specters in response, strengthening their lead greatly. Strawberry faltered at 245, unable to get Victoria back on track in what might become a blowout. Lexi took it easy with 230 for Harrison, feeling no need for a lengthy attack. Mitchell's 304 confirmed the loss for the Spurs at 1310, their fifth straight defeat. Rudolph capped the win with his 392, giving the Specters 2508 in their fourth straight win. Harrison streaks to 12-5, retaking the division lead, while Victoria sinks to 12-9.
Subway Field, Stonebridge: Vladimir takes to the bench for the Wolves in their Eastern Hills rivalry match with the Sharks, who sit Gizmo for a second straight game. Graham lowballed his opening turn, with 183 for Eastside to get them off to a miserable start. Juno attack with pace anyways, smacking 874 for Stonebridge to give the hosts a significant lead initially. Chelsea made a small dent in the deficit with 308 for the Sharks, who are likely not going to dig themselves out of this one. Cobalt took it easy with 260 for the Wolves, the mild performance still keeping their lead steady. Taylor M. pushed with 548 for Eastside, potentially sensing a weakness in the depths of the hosts' roster. Hershey offset some of the damage with 396 for Stonebridge, and they retain a solid lead heading into the final turn. Cubby made a solid effort with 408 for the Sharks, but they suffered the loss at 1447. Wild Thing tapped 270 to ice the Wolves' victory at 1800 even. Stonebridge climbs to 9-7, while Eastside plunges back into last place at 3-12.
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters send Lexi to the bench after her mediocre previous game, while the Meteors sit Princess for overdue rest. Hoot got caught in a low stance, a ball hopping his bat to end his turn at only 256 for Viewpoint Sound. Sydney S. made a statement in her return to the Harrison lineup, smashing 987 to give them a big lead. Frosty got caught on a high swing at 351 for the Meteors, unable to erase the deficit facing her side. Twinkie II eased off with 320 for the Specters, causing a small shrink in their lead. Nibbles wasn't able to make a move for Viewpoint Sound, his 319 keeping things steady for now. Blizzard took an ugly 193 for Harrison, knocking out her own wicket as their lead weakens again. Dani covered the deficit with 582 for the Meteors, their final score resting at 1508. Rudolph had the game won with a swing, but rallied to 1084 for the Specters anyway to leave a lasting impression as they won with 2584. Harrison soars to 13-5, while Viewpoint Sound flops to 7-7.
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs sit Panda for rest in the Week 9 Select finale, while the visiting Arrows give A. Charlton the game off. Sally rolled up with 640 for Archtown right at the start, looking to make things difficult for the downtrodden hosts. Mams answered with 429 for Southern, a solid performance for the veteran. Sleepy B. took a modest 290 for the Arrows on the second attack, which weakened their lead. Pounce capitalized on the chance with 567 for the Monarchs, pulling them ahead by a thin margin. Hoppy picked up 544 for Archtown against her former team, returning the visitors to the lead for now. Dominic got most of it back with 441 for Southern, but they now trail with a player each to go.
