The new day of games is here. The expected schedule has the first round of the playoffs ending by the end of this week. We start today with...
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts break out their third jerseys for this second battle with the Eagles in one of the more intriguing series of the round. Goldy had a decent start for Everton with 359 on the opening turn to establish some offense for the visitors. Patches blasted 927 in response for Boston, once again putting the hosts in a good position early in the game with her big performance. Puff III went even bigger for the Eagles, crushing 1359 to give the visitors a stronger second chance at the lead. Puff II had a rough outing this time for the Swifts, chipping a meager 69 as the deficit takes hold. Kirstin added some modest padding with 320 for Everton, keeping their lead in good form. Gradley had all the makings of a strong counterattack until a deflected ball caught him in an awkward position that ended his turn at 314 for Boston. Blizzard had only 96 for the Eagles, failing to truly secure the game as they close at 2134 for the game. Sweetheart couldn't create a rally with 256 for the Swifts, leaving them at 1566 in the loss. Everton's win ties the series as the action shifts north tomorrow.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors look to take a stronger grip on their series with the Stills, who hope to have something to take home with them. Easter had a decent start with 332 for Todavía, not making much of an impact one way or another. Twilight showed a bit more strength on her turn for Central, lining 591 with a good pace to give the hosts an early lead in the game. Sierra accepted 624 for the Stills after a technical error brought her turn to a slightly earlier end than expected. Dustin picked up a solid 352 for the Warriors on his turn, but they fell a bit behind at the halfway point. Sparkles left the Todavía lead a bit vulnerable with her 266, giving the hosts a chance to reply. Mario struck 458 for Central on his turn, successfully covering the deficit before the final players come to bat. Bells stumbled with a poor 60 for the Stills, sealing their loss at 1282. Gizmo tapped 235 at the end for the Warriors, icing their win at 1636. Central leaves home with a surprising 2-0 series lead over a team they were essentially tied with in the standings.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores welcome their Urban Division rivals again as the Knights are set to begin game 2 with a hunger for revenge. Kiwi set a sharp tone for Terrace City this time out, smashing 1189 to give the visitors a substantial advantage. Bear erased almost all of the damage with an impressive 1150 for Whitewater to keep things close initially. Jennifer took a very long time to end her turn after a technical error, eventually closing at 480 when she tipped a ball out of play as the Knights take a weaker second lead. Twinkie III hauled in 719 for the Shores, doing enough to give them the lead midway through the game. Oreo couldn't produce a counterattack of any meaning for Terrace City, exiting with a pitiful 75. Marsell made a modest gain with 272 for Whitewater, but their lead is as strong as ever heading into the final players' turns. Stripes did manage to force a response with 469 for the Knights, icing their offense at 2213. Shaggy didn't look great for the Shores, but her 153 secured the win for them at 2294. Whitewater leaves home with a 2-0 series lead after a thrilling pair of high-offense wins.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades try to build on their early-series win with another clash with the Pirates. Delila poked 320 for Atlantic to open the scoring without setting much of a tone either way. Snowball just did better than in game 1, her 376 for Swordpoint giving the hosts a mild lead after the opening turns from the captains. Isabella couldn't keep her swing under control for the Pirates, falling with just 21 after making unfortunate contact on her third swing. Dreamy didn't do much either for the Blades, her 187 enough to add very lightly to the hosts' lead halfway through the game. Americus assembled a pretty strong performance for Atlantic with 606, covering the deficit by a decent margin on her turn. Bandit had a fairly strong start to his turn, but his shift to a backhand created more problems than it solved, and he bowed out at 312, with Swordpoint now narrowly behind. Klaus couldn't secure anything for the Pirates with his 256, leaving them at 1203 overall. Stealth put on an excellent rally with 777 for the Blades at the end, swiping the win away at 1652. Swordpoint will leave home leading the series 2-0.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes want to extend their series lead with this second game against the Torpedoes in the playoffs. Smudge tried to go at a strong pace for Infinity at first, but rapidly faded and then mishit a ball to end on 272 in a middling first turn. Starlight showed no mercy in attack for Pacific, slashing 756 to put the hosts well ahead initially. Solaris had a strong response for the Torpedoes, giving them a better second lead with his 869 in a great outing by the rookie. Ms. Kitty shoveled 322 for the Volcanoes, unable to cover the deficit after a frustrating turn. Whiskers added a strong supporting attack with 710 for Infinity, boosting their lead with the effort. Leonette suffered with distractions for Pacific, managing a weak 217 as the deficit grows late in the game. Mr. Snowman added 292 for the Torpedoes on his turn, bringing their final to 2143. Chicky Phil had an optional replay, which he took after a technical error, but his 176 left the Volcanoes short at 1471. Infinity's surprising win carries them into a tied series at 1-1 as the series shifts inland.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are back for game 2 of their series with the Flames, with the hosts looking to take a firm grip on the series. Crystal made an incredibly pacey burst out of the gate for Queens, establishing them with a quick 724 on the first turn. Misty lacked the blistering pace for Westside, but she showed a bit more confidence later in the turn, as she slugged 1095 to give the hosts a nice lead. Paige made a mess of things on her turn, a failed backhand finally downing her at 180 for the Flames. Goatee had two false starts and a technical error before her fourth attempt netted a successful turn, with the veteran tacking 980 onto the Rockers' lead. Violetta has yet to recapture her good regular season form, ending on just 12 points for Queens here in a lost-cause game. Midnight controversially accepted 302 for Westside on a technical error, while the visitors thought she should be assessed a mandatory replay. Max put up 312 for the Flames at the end, sealing their losing total at 1228. Slinks got beat by a deflection, ending with 240 to seal the Rockers' win at 2617. Westside leaves home leading the series 2-0 after this dominant effort.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots still expect a tough task ahead as they host the Surfers for the second time in the playoffs. Watermelon had a bit better of a performance this time with 386 for Pearl, giving the visitors a solid start to the game. Valencia countered with a strong 524 for Golden, although her game 1 effort led to a larger initial lead for the hosts. Neopolitan absolutely belted 1062 for the Surfers, showing great poise in her attack to put the visitors far ahead. Dusty kept the Pilots in range, but her dangerous swings eventually stalled her at 591 despite some impeccable placement on her swings. Boots added 543 for Pearl on her turn, doing well to restore most of their previous lead. Strut couldn't keep up for Golden this time, ending with 324 on his turn as the deficit looms over the hosts at the start of the final players' turns. Wings answered with 336 for the Surfers, keeping things steady again as they close the game at 2327 total. A. Charlton managed a paltry 63 for the Pilots at the end, leaving them at 1502 in the loss.
HP Field, Midland: The Tridents smell blood after the Predators only managed a two-point win last time, with fireworks expected in this second clash that ends the day of games. Precious did not have a strong start for Pronger, chipping 192 at the beginning of the game for the visitors. Shawn did his part for Midland, capitalizing on the opportunity by scoring 995 to give the hosts a massive lead. Zach couldn't make up much ground with his 301 for the Tridents, leaving them at a still-steep deficit. Rainmane faltered with 144 for the Predators on her turn, weakening their lead at the halfway point of the game. Spot wasted his chance to pull Pronger closer, going at a good pace until a bad swing cut him down at 176. Leonardo restored the full strength of the lead with 357 for Midland, only getting surprised late by a fast-paced offering that he played out to end the turn. Potter couldn't dig anything up for the Tridents, his 184 leaving them with 853 in the loss. Fuchsia contributed 400 for the Predators at the end, icing their win at 1896. Midland holds a 2-0 series lead after a much more confident win.
That's all for this batch of games. Tomorrow, the teams that have been visitors so far get to show their home fans a taste of playoff action.
