UPCL Cricket - Week 35 Part 3

This is it for the regular season. In 12 games, we'll know where the teams stand and which set of 16 teams will battle for the Hutton Cup. In the coming days, we'll have an official announcement on next season's cricket action as well, with the only detail I can release being a major change in format. We begin with...

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles and Predators clash in their finales, with the Eagles needing a playoff spot and the Predators trying to rise one more place in the standings. Shawn set the tone quickly with a crisp 609 for Midland, giving them a solid lead to start the game with. Goldy did reasonably well to keep things close with her 405 for Everton, with plenty left to play for. Rainmane responded with a strong 579 for the Predators, boosting their lead with the sturdy second attack. Puff III made a deep cut into the deficit for the Eagles, pounding 750 to make things close at the halfway point. Leonardo offered a firm supporting attack of 546 for Midland on his turn, reaffirming their lead. Kirstin slipped at 320 for Everton, allowing the deficit to grow wider as the final players prepare to take their turns. Fuchsia couldn't secure the lead with 208 for the Predators, leaving them a bit exposed at 1942. Blizzard rallied with 599 to steal the win away for the Eagles, clinching a playoff spot at 2074 in the win. Everton is 37-33 on the year and 20-15 at home, while Midland dips to 42-28, and 23-12 on the road.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades return home for the last game of their season, while the Lumberjacks' finale closes a three-game road trip. Fluffina contributed 636 for Maplewood to start the game, a good opener from the captain. Jasmine countered with an even strong 718 for Freedom, her ferocious attack pacing the hosts to a small lead initially. Diddley had no trouble covering the deficit, challenging the hosts' lead with his 530 for the Lumberjacks. Stinky had to pull out of a swing and couldn't recover in time to save his turn, crashing out with only 144 for the Cascades as they fall behind. Bryant left the door open for a comeback with only 153 for Maplewood, creating a weakened lead. Roxy made very minor progress against the deficit with 171 for Freedom, slowed down by a cluttered pitch for most of the game. Waluigi tacked on 272 more for the Lumberjacks at the end, sealing their final score at 1591. Nikolai had just 176 for the Cascades at the end, sealing their loss at 1209. Maplewood rises to finish at 22-48 and 11-24 on the road, while Freedom ends at 23-47 and 11-24 at home.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents close their season with a home doubleheader, first facing the well-ranked Warriors. Twilight put up a good opening turn with 458 for Central, pacing their attack at a reasonably strong level. Precious used a patient build-up with a slow pace initially, then broke through late for a huge performance with 958 to give Pronger a great lead. Dustin shot back with a big performance for the Warriors, covering the deficit with his 598 to keep the game competitive. Zach lost a bit of ground for the lead with 447 for the Tridents, but they remain ahead. Mario did well in attack for Central, covering the deficit with more strength this time as he tallied 512. Spot answered with force for Pronger, carving out as huge 629 to restore Pronger's lead to its previous strength. The Warriors couldn't mount another comeback, as Gizmo had only 224 to seal their loss at 1792. Potter did what he could, but he was quickly overwhelmed at 239 to give the Tridents 2268 in the win. Pronger is up to 37-32, clinching a playoff spot, while Central drops to 40-30, including a 21-14 road record.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents close their home doubleheader and their season with their status secured as they host the Meteors, who just have a pair of road games left. Mams got off to a decent start with 378 for Viewpoint Sound, a steady performance from the captain. Precious took it easy with 96 for Pronger, happy to have made the playoffs with the previous win. Hoot countered with 400 for the Meteors, satisfied to have made things tougher for his former team. Zach saved his turn twice with a full extension backhand and a spiked ball, en route to slugging 1031 against his former team to set the Tridents well ahead. Nibbles used 462 for Viewpoint Sound to reclaim the lead with his strong outing. Spot covered the entire opposing offense as he blasted 1370 for Pronger this time, solidifying their lead greatly. Dominic kept the Meteors mostly balanced with 423, but they lost with 1683 this time, their tenth straight road loss. Potter iced the win with 624 individually for the Tridents, setting their final at 3121. Pronger rises to 38-32 with the epic finale, including a 20-15 home record, while Viewpoint Sound is down to 27-42 with the loss.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders can't make the playoffs, but they want to make sure the Waves' road finale leaves them with the same fate as their hosts. Snuggle served up a big 619 for Oceanside right at the start, giving them a fighting chance to keep their playoff hopes alive. Shadow's late season home surge ended at a peak with 903 for Web City, giving the hosts the initial lead. Caitlin fired back with a pacey 583 for the Waves, covering the deficit with her performance. Ted just maintained the lead with 372 for the Spiders, a deflection just clipping his wicket to end his turn abruptly. Celestia also suffered a deflection, but it ended her turn at a meager 73 for Oceanside, enough to tie the game temporarily. Shiny flicked 414 for Web City on her turn, marking out a new lead for the hosts with that effort. Dewey fell short with only 80 for the Waves, leaving them at a loss with 1355. Dani closed up the Spiders win with a solid 658, giving them a final of 2347. Both teams are now 35-35 and out of the playoffs, with the Spiders going 18-17 at home and the Waves going 18-17 on the road.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers can claim the final playoff berth with a win here on in their next game, while the Rockers are likely cemented in 5th place as they play their finale. Misty showed expert poise for Westside as she belted 1077 on the opening turn to give the visitors a large lead. Watermelon got a lot of it back against her former team with 950 for Pearl keeping things close early on. Goatee slipped up at 287 for the Rockers, her disappointing turn making them a bit vulnerable. Neopolitan failed to capitalize on the chance for the Surfers, exiting with a measly 57 after a bad swing. Midnight added another round of modest support with her 327 for Westside, keeping their lead strong. Boots made a big push to keep things close with 647 for Pearl, setting up an intense finish. Slinks had a bit of a down turn for the Rockers with just 238, leaving them at 1929 overall. Wings sliced 400 for the Surfers to secure the win at the end of the game, giving them a total of 2054. Pearl clinches their spot at 37-32, while Westside slips to 44-26, with a road record of 22-13.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige's season finale comes at home against a Shores team needing to win out to take 6th place in the standings, beginning with this road finale. Bear staked out a decent lead for Whitewater by posting 450 on the opening turn for the visitors. Acorn refused to roll over for Lighton, answering with a stronger 696 to give the hosts the early lead with his effort. Twinkie III saw her pace shatter between bad deflections and a few distractions, ending her turn at 314 when she clipped a ball backward for the Shores. Spirit didn't have trouble regaining a lead for the Prestige, but her 196 leaves them a bit less comfortable. Marsell chipped in with 460 for Whitewater on his turn, pulling the visitors ahead once more. Twinkie I got enough of it back with 362 on her turn to maintain a tiny Lighton lead as the final players come to bat. Shaggy kept the Shores well balanced with 463, putting their final score at 1687. Salmo tried to make up the deficit, but his 408 left the Prestige short at 1662. Whitewater gets to 42-27 on the year, with a road record of 22-13, while Lighton is 29-41 with a home record of 17-18.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts meet with the Volcanoes in arguably the most important Generations Derby ever, as the winner will claim the regular season title and #1 seed. Starlight ripped 1033 at the start for Pacific, an epic performance to set the tone immediately in the game. Patches got a little more than half of it back with 577 for Boston, but they'll face a tough challenge throughout the game. Ms. Kitty got nearly all of that back with 522 for the Volcanoes, keeping their lead steady after the second attack. Puff II ignored all of that, demolishing 1124 for the Swifts to give them the lead at the midway mark. Leonette covered the deficit going the other way with 673 for Pacific, keeping things interesting in this instant classic. Gradley buckled under the pressure for Boston, allowing the hosts to slip behind as he contributed 290 to their offense. Chicky Phil added another 484 for the Volcanoes, raising their final score to 2712. Sweetheart let the ball get away from her early, ending her turn at a poor 146 as the Swifts lost with 2137. Pacific goes to 48-22 to take the regular season title, with a road record of 23-12, while Boston is 47-23 for the year, and 19-16 at home.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks are at home to complete their season, while the Meteors end the year on the road in this low-stakes match. Mams pummeled 1350 for Viewpoint Sound to lead off the offense in great form. Chelsea had a comparably pitiful 126 for Eastside to lead off their attack, giving the hosts a massive deficit to start the game. Hoot rattled off another big performance for the Meteors, racking up 768 to extend the visitors' lead to a massive margin. Taylor took only 141 for the Sharks in response, a potentially disappointing end to the season for the potential trade target. Nibbles allowed Viewpoint Sound to relax a bit, contributing 380 to their offense to keep the lead more than healthy. Niki was ruled to have only 9 points for Eastside after her third hit was deflected off the fourth offering and out of play, a brutal end to her season. Dominic likely capped the win with 460 for the Meteors, helping them snap a ten-game road losing streak with the likely win at 2958 here. Paps made the Sharks a bit more respectable with his 711, but they still lost with 987. Viewpoint Sound rises to 28-42, with a road mark of 12-23, while Eastside sinks to 30-40 and a home record of 14-21.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores end their season with a home game, facing a Pilots team as both sides make one last jockeying move for position. A slight deflection was to blame for Valencia's early exit at 78 for Golden, a weak start from the longtime captain. Bear, possibly feeling fatigued, had a swing-and-miss to end his turn at 373 for Whitewater. Dusty had no trouble covering the deficit with 472 for the Pilots, but its a thin cover she applied on her turn. Twinkie III had an expert two-piece takedown on her backhand, but she ended at 149 after further pressure disrupted the Shores' star's turn. Strut fired back with 615 for Golden to extend their lead with a strong performance. Marsell just edged Whitewater ahead with 647, setting up an extremely close finish for the final players. A. Charlton set the mark with 509 for the Pilots, leaving their final at 1674. Shaggy came up short with 209 for the Shores, and they took the loss with 1378. Golden gets the position boost with the win, rising to 46-24 and a 25-10 road record, while Whitewater falls to 42-28 and 20-15 at home.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers will try to bring some clarity to the crowded third playoff tier, facing a Wolves team trying to act as a spoiler. Juno hammered 840 right at the start of the game for Stonebridge, making things a bit tough for the hosts. Watermelon made a mess of her turn with only 24 for Pearl, accidentally bumping a ball out of bounds to create the poor start. Frosty didn't run away with the offense, ending at a paltry 78 for the Wolves on a lousy turn. Neopolitan made a dent in the deficit for the Surfers, cutting closer with 646 at the halfway point of the game. Cobalt propped up some support for the Stonebridge lead with 352 on his turn, but they may be vulnerable anyway. Boots kept her epic run of form going for Pearl, smashing 718 to put the hosts ahead with a player each to go. Prism had a solid 311 for the Wolves at the end, giving them a final of 1581 that will force a response from the hosts. Wings couldn't match the damage, but his 306 secured the Surfers a win with 1694 to end their season positively. Pearl is up to 38-32, with a home record of 21-14, while Stonebridge falls to 28-42, with a 12-23 road record.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The regular season ends here, as the Knights meet the Torpedoes to settle some positioning issues in the playoff seeds. Smudge churned out an easy 806 for Infinity at the start, challenging the hosts immediately in this competitive game. Kiwi shot back with 663 for Terrace City at the start, keeping things close initially between the two sides. Solaris answered with 423 for the Torpedoes, hoping that will be enough to maintain the lead for now. Jennifer kept things at the status quo with 401 for the Knights at the halfway mark, setting up a tight finish. Whiskers paddled another 527 for Infinity, giving their lead a nice boost at a critical point in the game. Oreo put Terrace City ahead with her 748-point turn, their narrow leading margin leaving the decision up the final players. Mr. Snowman chipped just 128 for the Torpedoes to give them 1884 overall, forcing only a small response from the hosts. Stripes exited at 271 for the Knights, giving them 2083 in the win. Terrace City ends the year at 39-31, earning the 10th seed by themselves, and closes their home schedule at 20-15, while Infinity is 37-33 in 16th place, with a road record of 19-16.

That's all for the regular season here. The playoffs begin on Friday, but look for updates to the Protected Players list in the near future, likely tomorrow. Playoff matchups will be listed on Twitter @UnitedPCL before the players of the week are named.
