The final week of cricket action this season is upon us. We begin this opening segment with...
FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks open up the final week with a chance to play spoiler against their old building's new tenants, the Predators, in the Southlands Derby. Shawn could have done a bit more with his pace, but he supplied a strong 662 for Midland to open the game. Chelsea kept things close for Eastside on her turn, provided 543 to keep the hosts within striking distance. Rainmane had a difficult turn for the Predators, unable to calibrate her swing before falling at 121. Taylor had no trouble in covering the deficit for the Sharks, gathering 424 to put the hosts ahead at the midway mark. Leonardo struck 389 for Midland on his turn in response, pulling them ahead at least temporarily. It was Niki's turn to stumble for Eastside, posting 180 on her turn as the hosts trail with a player each to go. Fuchsia locked in with 824 for the Predators in an excellent closing turn to set their final at 1996. Paps couldn't rally back for the Sharks with 280, leaving them at a loss with 1427 total. Midland's win lifts them up to 42-26, while Eastside sinks back to 30-39 with the loss.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors' home finale is the Tridents' road finale, and a critical game for the playoff race and positioning. Precious immediately levied a massive toll on the hosts, rallying with a big 971 for Pronger to give her side a large advantage. Twilight pulled in 582 for Central in one of her better recent appearances, but they will start this game from behind. Zach responded with more force for the Tridents, pounding 989 to essentially double their offense. Dustin had 324 for the Warriors on his turn, allowing the deficit to grow halfway through the game. Spot eased up on the attack for Pronger a bit, tallying 300 to add to the impressive lead held by the visitors. Mario wouldn't let Central go quietly, smacking 679 on his turn to cut into the deficit before the final players come to bat. Potter gave the Tridents a bit of a boost at the end with his 495, giving them 2755 total. Gizmo had a rough 64 for the Warriors at the end, confirming their loss at 1649. Pronger's big win eliminates the Capital City Sharpshooters and Web City Spiders, and takes them to 36-32 overall, with an 18-17 road mark. Central is 39-29, with a 19-16 record at home.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators continue to jockey for position in their home finale, while the Spiders must play out the string, beginning with their road finale. Shadow seemed disheartened for Web City, closing his turn at 305 in his typical lead-off role. Shawn answered successfully with 511 for Midland, putting them ahead initially. Ted covered the deficit rather easily for the Spiders with 536, giving them a similar lead as they had from the start of the game. Rainmane lacked pace against her former team, but ground out another 380 to put the Predators narrowly ahead at the midway mark. Shiny had a decent turn going for Web City, a modest pace but good placement, until a late backhand wiped her out at 354. Leonardo stumbled with a poor 135 for Midland, putting them behind late in the game. Dani got beat by a deflection to end at 321 for the Spiders, giving them a final of 1516. Fuchsia couldn't manage a rally for the Predators, buckling at 208 to leave them with 1234 in the loss. Web City rises to 34-35 with the win, and a 17-18 road record, while Midland is 42-27, and 19-16 at home for the year.
Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves wrap up their home schedule with their first meeting against the Shores, who play their third of a four-game road trip in this busy final week. Bear showed his first signs of fatigue for Whitewater with 291 on this opening turn, a middling start for the visitors. Juno answered in a big way for Stonebridge, rallying to take 752 for the initial lead. Twinkie III couldn't cover the deficit with 322 for the Shores on the second attack, putting them in a dangerous spot. Frosty attacked back with 568 for the Wolves, the strong performance boosting their lead. Marsell did enough for Whitewater to cover the deficit, lining 713 to make things interesting at this stage of the game. Cobalt's strong finish to the year continued with a big 736 for Stonebridge, restoring their lead quite well. Shaggy tried to make another comeback, but fell short at 429 to give the Shores 1755 total in the loss. Prism hauled in another 518 for the Wolves at the end, icing their winning score at 2574 in a big upset. Stonebridge finishes 16-19 at home to get to 27-41 overall, while Whitewater takes a slip to 40-26.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds end their season looking for a fifth straight home win, while the Hummingbirds hope their strong finish can scratch out another win. Princess showed no hesitation in attack for Tysini, lashing out for a quick 802 to give the visitors the early lead. Tigerette fired back with a big 717 for Commerce on her turn, keeping the hosts within striking distance in a beautiful start. Leandra gave a good amount of support with 677 for the Hummingbirds, building their lead up again. Ice Cream replied with a decent 335 for the Tradewinds, giving them a steeper deficit. Tysini rises to 29-38 with the win, while Commerce ends at 33-37, with a 17-18 home record included.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs could play spoiler as they return home for their last two games, while the Eagles need to fix their road woes right now in their road finale. Goldy didn't get the start Everton needed this time, hitting a paltry 80 to lead off the game in poor form. Spice picked a huge moment to break her home struggles, carving out 742 to put Victoria far ahead early in the game. Puff III put the Eagles on her back, slugging 1574 to put them ahead by a significant margin. Yekaterina did not succeed under pressure to respond, managing just 188 for the Spurs as they now trail. Kirstin chipped only 162 for Everton on her turn, keeping things steady at this point. B. Chapman used an optional replay for a technical error to pick up 571 for Victoria, getting them closer with a player each to go. Blizzard didn't have much pace for the Eagles, but she manage to collect 495 to put their final score at 2311. Wario had only 272 for the Spurs at the end of the game, leaving them at 1773 in the loss. Everton moves to 36-33 overall, and 17-18 on the road, while Victoria is down to 32-37 with the loss.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are ready to push toward the top, but they face a strong-finishing Hummingbirds team relishing their role as spoilers. Princess couldn't pull her bat back fast enough for a quick offering, ending with a quick 407 to begin the Tysini offense. Misty seemed to attack with more pace for Westside, but she slipped late and ended with 409 to create a tiny lead. Leandra made a much bigger impact for the Hummingbirds, crushing 1126 to give them a large lead. Goatee tried to keep the Rockers on pace, but she faltered at 679, only recovering a little more than half of the deficit. Charli wiped out that damage to Tysini's lead with her own 692, keeping them in control of the game. Midnight couldn't recover all of it with 623 for Westside, keeping them behind late in the game. Brownie blasted another 1021 for the Hummingbirds, a remarkable push at the end to give her team a final of 3246. Slinks struck another 416 for the Rockers, but their leaky defense meant 2127 would be a losing score. Tysini is up to 30-38, while Westside drops to 43-24.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds finish their doubleheader with their home finale, while the Nighthawks play their road finale in this appearance. Peach scooped up a nice 705 at the start for North Modernistic, getting them going in a positive manner. Princess showed a bit of fatigue for Tysini, unable to drive play like in the last game, as she closes her turn at 281 here. Luigi kept the Nighthawks on the right track, supporting his captain with 672 to pad their lead. Leandra went on a tear for the Hummingbirds, getting them close to caught up with her 1039 at the halfway point. Cheddar did her part to protect the North Modernistic lead, pelting 784 in a flurry of strong swings. Tysini went 17-18 at home this year, rising to 31-38, while knocking North Modernistic to the same record as they finish their road schedule at 19-16.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The last Coastal Divisional sees the Surfers trying to strengthen their playoff hopes against a Monarchs team playing the spoiler role well. Panda showed no mercy to the hosts at the start of the game, as the Southern captain, drilled 1013 to set the tone early on. Watermelon had all the makings of a successful counterattack until a deflection downed her at 663 for Pearl. Hoppy tried a difficult backhand play that failed on the transition, with her next swing ending her turn at 219 for the Monarchs. Neopolitan made a cut into the deficit with 431 for the Surfers, but they remain behind for now. Pounce provided a strong reinforcement to the Southern lead, slashing 705 on his turn. Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are home to wrap up their season, hopefully by clinching a playoff spot against a tired Shores side wrapping up a four-game road trip. Bear showed no ill effects from the heavy schedule as of late, producing a strong 647 for Whitewater to begin the game. Crystal put up just a bit more on offense with 688, giving Queens a small initial lead with her performance. Twinkie III went a bit lighter in attack with 471 for the Shores to regain a smaller lead. Paige's regular season home finale went poorly with just 39 for the Flames, giving them a deficit at midgame. Marsell added another 445 for Whitewater in a solid turn for the veteran to boost their lead. Violetta flipped the script for Queens, launching a massive 1287 to put them ahead with a player each to go. Shaggy came up a bit short with 392 for the Shores at the end, bringing their final to a losing score of 1955. Max capped the Flames win with a solid 463, bringing them to 2477 overall. Queens will be in the playoffs as they hit 38-32 on the year, including 17-18 at home, while Whitewater slips again to 40-27.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts come home for the first of two rivalry matches to end their season, taking on their Cola Wars Derby rivals, the Prestige, in their road finale. Acorn had a good pace going but a mishit ball ended his turn early at 264 in a mediocre start to the game. Patches countered that motion relentlessly for Boston, hammering 775 to put the hosts ahead early on. Spirit saw a deflection cut her turn short at 327 as a ball skipped over her bat and out of play, hurting the Prestige comeback effort. Puff II had an even more aggressive attack for the Swifts, mixing pace and placement perfectly to add 938 to the lead. Twinkie I couldn't provide a challenge with 220 for Lighton, letting them fall farther behind. Gradley eased up slightly for Boston, hauling in 330 to pad the lead once more. Salmo produced 424 for the Prestige at the end, leaving them at a loss with 1235. Sweetheart put a big bow on the win for the Swifts with her 528, icing their score at 2571 total. Boston rises to 47-22, setting up a massive showdown for first place later this week, while Lighton is 29-40 overall and 12-23 on the road.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: There may not be playoff cricket in the capital, but the Sharpshooters will give it their all against the Knights to end this segment and their season. Kiwi got Terrace City's road finale off to a cold start, hitting a weak 126 on the first turn of the game. Chris countered with an effective 487 for Capital City, putting the hosts ahead in the early going. Jennifer pulled the Knights ahead with a quick 578, covering the deficit by a decent margin. Missy let the Sharpshooters fall behind after a failed backhand cut her down at 197, creating a midgame deficit. Oreo swung a bit too early on one of her early chances, ending at 39 for Terrace City, who are vulnerable now. Sprinkles just barely put Capital City ahead with her 108, as the game has taken a low-scoring turn late. Stripes had a meager 75 for the Knights, forcing a small response as they close with 818 in this game. Nicole did enough with 141 to secure a Sharpshooters win at a poor final score of 933. Capital City ends the year 35-35 overall, and 19-16 at home, while Terrace City slips to 38-31 and 19-16 on the road.
That's all for today. We'll be back on Sunday or Monday to continue the final week of the season.
