UPCL Cricket - Week 34 Part 3

The finale of the penultimate week of the season is here, and we begin this segment with...

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores come into this game to close a four-game home stand, while the Tridents end a three-game road trip. Pronger got off to an awful start, as their captain Precious produced a terrible 38 to open the game. Bear could have done better with more pace, but he churned out a strong 672 for Whitewater to give them the initial lead. Zach performed well with 399 for the Tridents, denting the deficit slightly with the appearance. Twinkie III recovered most of that damage, but her need to go to a backhand shattered her pace before she exited at 369 for the Shores. Spot countered with another 400 for Pronger, with the hopes that the hosts will slip up soon. Marsell did just the opposite for Whitewater, belting 1002 to extend their lead late in the game. Potter couldn't save the Tridents, his 528 leaving them at 1365 in a tough loss to take at this point in the season. Shaggy tacked on another 604 for the Shores at the end, bringing their final score to 2647 in a big win. Whitewater clinches their playoff spot at 38-25, while Pronger dips to 35-31, falling into a dangerous area.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves are set to begin their final pair of home games, while the Specters hope to continue a five-game road winning streak in their final pair of road games. Sydney put a bit too much on her final swing, putting it high out of play to end on 209 for Harrison. Juno answered well with 414 for Stonebridge, doing her part to give the hosts a noticeable lead. Twinkie II hauled in 416 for the Specters on the second attack, enough to cover the deficit for now. Frosty got beat by a pacey offering, which she tried to backhand but flicked out of play, her 209 leaving the Wolves down by two points at the midway mark. Lexi had trouble getting her swing in line for Harrison, taking a meager 52 on her turn. Cobalt blew the hinges off the door for Stonebridge, crushing 1056 on his turn to give the hosts a massive lead late in the game. Sugar took only 287 for the Specters at the end, sealing their loss at 964 total. Prism tapped 113 for the Wolves to make a quick finish as they won with 1792 overall. Stonebridge rises to 27-40, while Harrison is 28-40 on the year.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders are essentially playing to stay alive, while the Shores can rest easy despite starting a grueling four-game road trip. Bear set quite the unfriendly tone for Whitewater, pummeling 807 at the start of the game to stake out a lead for the visitors. Shadow fought back with even more strength for Web City, as the captain drilled 927 to put the hosts ahead. Twinkie III didn't back down for the Shores, striking back with 913 in this frenetic game. Ted buckled under the pressure to respond big for the Spiders, his 139 putting them far behind at the halfway point. Marsell eased up slightly for Whitewater with his 379, but their lead remains strong at this point. Shiny made minor progress for Web City, knocking 408 on her turn, but they needed more as they head into the final players' turns far behind. Shaggy attacked with great pace for the Shores, only slipping a little before closing her turn at 590 for a final score of 2689. A bad bounce cut Dani off at 375 for the Spiders, resulting in their losing final of 1849. Whitewater rises again to 39-25, while Web City's playoff hopes take a massive hit as they fall to 33-35.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems play their home finale here to start a doubleheader, while the Surfers look to solidify their positioning in their road finale. Watermelon led off in great form for Pearl with 733, putting them ahead by a nice margin at the start of the game. Smokey got lured into a backhand attempt for Diamond, and the next offering quickly downed him at 419, putting the hosts behind initially. Neopolitan didn't have much for pace for the Surfers, but she managed to shovel 365 to maintain their lead well. Citrus hit a measly 66 for the Gems in response, deepening the deficit against them. Boots countered with a big 784 for Pearl on her turn, providing the visitors a nice extension to their lead. Pedey tried to keep Diamond in the fight with his 608, but they still lost ground with a player each to go. Wings put an exclamation point on the result for the Surfers with 980, bringing their final to 2862. Rosalina failed to do a backhand when called upon, ending at 280 to leave the Gems with 1373 in the loss. Diamond's home schedule ends at 11-24, and they are 21-47 overall, while the Surfers end their road schedule at 17-18, and move to 36-31 on the year.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union close their home schedule and their season in this meeting with the Gems, who finish the doubleheader by starting their last pair of road games. Smokey wasted no time in establishing the Diamond offense with his 695, a strong turn from the captain. Ms. Puppy fell with only 218 for Modernistic, leaving them at an early deficit. Citrus weakened the Gems' lead with a paltry 155 on her turn, unable to build her pace up in the appearance. Daisy fired back with a massive 898 for the Union, giving them the lead in the middle of the game. Pedey replied with 739 for Diamond on his turn, restoring a decent lead for the visitors. Puff I couldn't clear one particular ball from the pitch, and it ended up halting her turn at 81 for Modernistic, who are behind again. Rosalina left the door wide open with a measly 66 for the Gems, putting their final at 1655. Strawberry came up short with 209 for the Union, leaving them at a loss with 1406. Diamond is now 22-47 for the season, while Modernistic ends the year at 36-34 total and 20-15 at home.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents can thin the playoff herd with a win in their return home, facing the Tradewinds in their road finale. Tigerette led off in strong form for Commerce with 503, giving them a nice lead at the start. Precious paced Pronger with a better score, lining 672 on her opening turn to give the hosts an advantage early in the game. Ice Cream managed 240 for the Tradewinds, doing enough to lightly cover the deficit in this appearance. Zach kept things perfectly steady with 240 for the Tridents, maintaining their lead at the halfway mark. Lionel launched a nice counterattack for Commerce, rallying with 623 to cover the deficit better this time. Spot failed to regain the lead for Pronger, falling with 144 as they fall behind with a player each to go. Lorde wrangled up another 432 for the Tradewinds on her turn, icing their offense at 1798. Potter couldn't meet the challenge with 388 for the Tridents, leaving them at 1444 in the loss. Commerce keeps the dream alive for two other teams, as they rise to 33-36, with a 16-19 road record, and Pronger dips to 35-32 with the loss.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes begin their final three-game home stand, all against non-playoff teams, beginning with the Lumberjacks in this one. Fluffina opened in decent form for Maplewood, scattering 372 on the first turn to establish her team. Smudge did well on the counterattack for Infinity, tallying 706 to pull the hosts ahead after the first turns. Diddley didn't let the Lumberjacks stay behind for long, firing back with 569 to keep the game competitive. An unfortunate bounce would end Solaris' turn suddenly at 608, but the Torpedoes built up the lead a bit. Bryant just scraped together enough to cover the deficit again with his 424 for Maplewood, but they're struggling to keep up. Whiskers didn't flinch at all, cranking out 650 for Infinity to extend their lead again. Waluigi forced the hosts to respond with his 765, his late season surge continuing as the Lumberjacks end at 2130. Mr. Snowman nearly got all of that back with 744 for the Torpedoes, and more than enough to give them the win with 2708. Infinity rises to 37-30, while Maplewood sinks to 20-46.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: Neither team has anything to play for in the Crowns' home finale and the Cascades' second of a four-game road trip to close out their travels this year. Jasmine had an impressive backhand and a lucky bounce for Freedom, but a lack of pace kept her down at 211 on the first turn. Nightfur went big for Royal in response, smashing 998 with a few heavy swings and one nearly miraculous backhand before her exit. Stinky tried to fight it off with 386 for the Cascades, but that just dented the deficit. Jake lost a bit of ground for the Crowns with his 287, but their lead is still healthy. Roxy pulled Freedom closer with a strong outing, scoring 432 to cut into the deficit again. Kayla successfully held off that attack for Royal, slicing 519 to pad their lead a bit more as the final players come to bat. Nikolai pulled in 359 for the Cascades, but they took the loss with a final of 1388 this time. Hannah put a nice cap of 416 on the top of the win for the Crowns, with their final at 2220. Royal is now 26-42 overall, with a 10-25 home record in a tough season, while Freedom drops to 23-44.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles wrap up a pair of home games this time, facing the Gems, who are ending their lost season on the road with this game. Smokey pounded a crisp 702 for Diamond to lead things off in great form one more time. Goldy had another crooked result at home for Everton, starting their offense from a position of weakness as she scores only 80 points. Citrus managed only 129 for the Gems, the weak second attack potentially making them vulnerable. Puff III just about covered the deficit with 730 for the Eagles, making things close halfway through the game. Pedey followed Citrus with another 129 for Diamond, assuredly putting the visitors in danger of losing their lead. Kirstin ran a good turn of support for Everton, batting 572 to put them ahead with a player each to go. Rosalina contributed 376 for the Gems, but they took the loss at 1336 total to end their season on a sour note. Blizzard continued a great run of form with 697 to ice the Eagles win at 2079 total. Everton is up to 35-33, tightening the playoff race, while Diamond sinks to 22-48 overall and 11-24 on the road.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks' misfortune-plagued home schedule ends here, facing a Pilots teams jockeying for position near the top of the table. Valencia appeared to break out of her road slump a bit with 388 for Golden to open the scoring in this game. Fluffina kept the game very close after the initial turn, striking back with 383 for Maplewood to minimize the damage. Dusty matched her captain exactly, doubling their offense with 388 for the Pilots. Diddley slipped up a bit for the Lumberjacks, dropping off the pace at 319 to put them behind a bit at the midway point. Strut tried to pull off a deflection on his backhand for a high-arcing ball, but he tipped it too low, and ended at 304 for Golden. Bryant broke the scoring open wider for Maplewood, firing 616 to give them a lead late in the game. A. Charlton covered the deficit with 425 for the Pilots, bringing their final score to 1505. Waluigi couldn't build a rally this time, ending on 64 for the Lumberjacks to give them a loss with 1382. Golden is up to 45-24, while Maplewood moves down to 20-47, with a home record of 11-24.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are looking to stay in the fight for first place, while the Stills jockey for position lower in the standings in their road finale. Easter wasted no time in making a big attack for Todavía, unleashing 786 to give the visitors a firm foundation. Misty couldn't match the pace for Westside, taking a decent 407 to keep her team at a healthy offense. Sierra tried to play like her captain, but while she had the pace, her placement failed her to end her turn at 240 for the Stills. Goatee took advantage of the opportunity for the Rockers, chipping 479 to dent the deficit at the halfway mark. Sparkles mitigated that damage pretty well with 424 for Todavía, keeping the visitors in control. Midnight got Westside within a single-digit margin of deficit, slapping 560 to make things close near the end of the game. Bells fired back with 668 for the Stills in a massive finish to bring them to 2118 total. Slinks tried to rally for the Rockers with 542, but she leaned back on her last swing, and the hosts lost at 1988. Todavía is now 39-30, with a road record of 18-17, while Westside sinks to 43-23.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Week 34 finale is here, with the Monarchs ending a pair of home games and the Shores playing their second of a four-game road trip. Bear pelted 546 for Whitewater in a quick attack to lead off the scoring this time. Panda kept things very close, only betrayed by a late backhand that kept his score at 544 for Southern, leaving the rest of the rosters to figure this one out. Twinkie III played pretty well in the second attack for the Shores, adding 472 to their offense. Hoppy faltered when a ball came in high and fast, ending her turn when she missed the swing to score 319 for the Monarchs. Marsell kept Whitewater in great form with his 682, extending their lead quite nicely with the effort. Pounce fought back with 407 for Southern, but the deficit remains sizable as the final players come to bat. His daughter, Shaggy, had only 240 for the Shores, but she iced their score at 1940 total. Shannon put in a good challenge with 534 for the Monarchs, leaving them at 1804 total in the loss. Whitewater rises to 40-25 on the year, with a busy week to go, while Southern is down to 29-37.

That's it for the week. We'll be back to start week 35 tomorrow before taking the weekend off.
