We're now presenting the week 31 finale, ready to wrap up a landmark and move toward an earnest playoff push. First up in this batch is...
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The first game of this segment is an Urban Division and a Suburban Derby, the Knights' last division game of the year. Kiwi didn't originally have much pace on her turn, but she recovered well late and smacked 991 for Terrace City to start with. Ms. Puppy kept it relatively close for Modernistic, replying with a crisply hit 817 to minimize the damage. Jennifer had a destabilizing turn for the Knights, falling with 280 in a rough outing. Daisy continued her late-season evolution into a dangerous attacker with 760 for the Union here, putting them noticeably ahead. Oreo fired back with 499 for Terrace City, enough to cover the deficit by a decent margin. Puff I had an untimely break from form for Modernistic in this game, taking a pitiful 54 to put the hosts behind late in the game. Stripes closed the game down with 479 for the Knights, ending their offense at 2249. Strawberry took a surprisingly fast exit with 152 for the Union, leaving them in a loss with a total of 1783. Terrace City gets the division win to go to 36-29, finishing 5-5 in the Urban, while Modernistic is 31-28.
Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are now back at home, looking to complete a sweep attempt they started just two games ago against the Nighthawks. Peach again had a reasonable start for North Modernistic with her 463, pacing their attack in an acceptable manner. Crystal took only 144 for Queens on her turn, putting the hosts at an early deficit. Luigi put in a much better performance for the Nighthawks, ripping 801 to extend their lead significantly on the second attack. Paige fired back with 880 for the Flames, cutting slightly into the deficit at the halfway point of the game. Cheddar ended up getting a bit too aggressive for North Modernistic, falling at 371 as she lifted a ball too high. Violetta attacked with wonderful pace and perfect placement, gathering 784 to pull Queens ahead with a player each to go. Bright had a bit of a clumsy 247 for the Nighthawks, but their 1882 final forces the hosts to respond. Max didn't do much with 128 for the Flames, but he did enough as they won with 1936. Queens rises to 33-26, while North Modernistic is just about doomed at 30-33, the rigors of the season too much for a young team.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders play the second of a four-game home stand against a Warriors team hoping the road will treat them kinder than their home has recently. Central isn't looking very good now either, as Twilight had her worst road game of the year with 33 points. Bianca didn't get that far away with just 58 for Southridge, a poor opening turn plaguing both teams here. Dustin put in a much better second attack for the Warriors, carving out 799 to give them a good lead. Debby couldn't get a rally going for the Defenders, falling on 225 as they are behind halfway through the game. Mario supplied another 520 for Central on his turn, doing well to extend their lead with a good performance. Stephanie fired back with 617 for Southridge, making up a little bit of the deficit. Gizmo drilled another 768 for the Warriors at the end, sealing their score at 2120 in their best game in awhile. Hughbert tried a rally with 544 for the Defenders, but fell short, leaving them in a loss with 1444. Central is up to 37-25, while Southridge gets bumped back to 25-38 on the year.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots hope to extend a nice home winning streak when they host the Cascades, who haven't been too bad on the road recently. Jasmine couldn't repeat her last outing for Freedom, collecting only 267 this time in a much slower start. Valencia had a great response for Golden, using a solid swing and patience to pick up 713 and give the hosts a sizable lead. Stinky got a bit tangled up after a slow swing, ending this turn at 442 as the Cascades just missed covering the deficit. Dusty stormed off with a nice turn for the Pilots, paddling 600 to boost their lead. Roxy just couldn't keep up for Freedom, hitting a decent 368 but only halving the deficit with her appearance. Strut broke a long stretch of good home form individually when he tacked on 264, but Golden is not too concerned about the effects on this game. Nikolai mounted a sturdy comeback for the Cascades on his turn, rallying with 743 to force a response as the visitors close with 1820. A. Charlton blew it for the Pilots at the end with 144, leaving them at 1721 in the stunning loss. Freedom pulled off the improbable comeback to go to 23-39, while Golden is down to 42-22 and frustrated.
Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs return home for a pair of games, taking on the Predators in this minor rivalry, as the visitors begin a four-game road trip. Shawn put in an excellent revenge appearance against his former team, belting 879 with pace to give Midland a big lead. Panda had a significantly worse opening turn for Southern, taking only 55 after a mishit ball. Rainmane appeared primed to put in a good supporting effort for the Predators, but fell out of form at 264. Hoppy cut into the deficit on her turn for the Monarchs, racking up 521 to cut the visitors' lead in half. Leonardo fought off that attack quite well for Midland, canceling it out with his 589-point appearance. Pounce's road form continues to elude him, as he had just 87 after a deflection to hurt Southern's chances of a comeback. Fuchsia capped the Predators offense with 320 this time, bringing their final score to 2052. Shannon had an excellent rally with 685 for the Monarchs, but a lack of scoring support left them at a loss with 1348. Midland rises to 38-24, while Southern drops to 23-33 with the loss.
Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents are back at home to wrap up a pair of games, while the Spurs finish a four-game road trip in this appearance. Spice did well for Victoria in the lead-off role, cranking out 545 to give them a solid foundation at the start of the game. Precious didn't get it all back for Pronger, recollecting 368 on a reasonable first turn for the hosts. Yekaterina answered with a strong second attack, hauling in 487 for the Spurs to add a bit to their lead. Zach had an unfortunate deflection to end his turn at 124 for the Tridents, deepening their deficit at the halfway mark. B. Chapman showed a moment of weakness with only 178 for Victoria, leaving their lead a bit more vulnerable. Spot made up a little bit of ground for Pronger with 424 on his turn, keeping them on the fringe of striking distance. Wario failed to put the game out of reach, claiming 279 for the Spurs to ice their offense at 1489. Potter went with 542 for the Tridents with pace, but he left them at 1458 in a narrow loss. Victoria takes the win and rises to 27-31, while Pronger is down to 32-28 with the loss.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors hope to build on a recent win, while the Flames start a pair of games on the road in this positional battle. Crystal had another slow starting effort for Queens, picking up a
meager 99 on the opening turn this time out. Twilight couldn't match
that in a terrible turn for Central, as she hit a pathetic 37 points to
get the game started quite poorly. Paige did well in the second attack
for the Flames, giving them 567 and a sizable lead this time. Dustin did
even better to put the Warriors ahead at the halfway mark, unleashing
857 to give the hosts a lead with his big attack. Violetta did enough
for Queens with 458 to cover the deficit, but not by much. Mario broke
his lengthy home slump with 759 for Central, doing well to extend their
lead significantly. Max fired back with 552 for the Flames, trying to
force a response as his side finished at 1676 total. Gizmo easily topped
it with 607 for the Warriors, supplementing their winning offense at
2260 overall. Central seems to be off the schneid, rising to 38-25,
while Queens drops down to 33-27 with the frustrating loss.
Coca-Cola
Field, Boston: The Swifts try to stay in the big fight for first place
in their second of a three-game home stand, while the Stills alternate
between road and home the rest of the way. Easter had a productive swing
for Todavía, rallying with 668 to get the visitors started in strong
form. Patches got a little more than half of it back for Boston with her
354, an acceptable start from the captain. Sierra canceled out that
damage well for the Stills, posting 391 in a good second attack. Puff II
had one false start for the Swifts, and her second try netted only 39
points, putting them far behind now. Sparkles' late season fade for
Todavía continued as she took just 39 on a poor outing. Gradley pummeled
716 for Boston on his turn, pulling them back into the game as they
hold a tiny lead with a player each to go. Bells forced a response from
the hosts with her 494 for the Stills, closing their game at 1592.
Sweetheart carried the Swifts to a win, smashing 840 on an excellent
turn to bring their final to 1949. Boston keeps pace at the top,
improving to 43-20, while Todavía sinks to 35-28 with a fifth straight
road loss.
Volkswagen
Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors begin a pair of home games,
bringing in the Flames, who are ending their quick pair of road games.
Crystal had another mediocre performance for Queens in the opening part
of this game, contributing a mild 234 in this outing. Mams couldn't
match it for Viewpoint Sound, a deflection cutting her down at just 81
in a paltry first attack. Paige's recent run of road form came to a
screeching halt as she took only 62 in this appearance for the Flames.
Hoot churned out 772 for the Meteors, his hot offense pulling them ahead
at the midway mark. Violetta barely covered the deficit with 560 for
Queens, putting them narrowly ahead at this stage of the game. Nibbles
hauled in 513 for Viewpoint Sound on his turn, the rookie putting his
side back in the lead late in the game. Max couldn't keep up, costing
the Flames the game with 137 as they lose with 993 total. Dominic tacked
on a strong 441 to ice the Meteors win at 1807 in a convincing
performance. Viewpoint Sound gets the upset win to go to 26-37, while
Queens is down to 33-28 with the loss.
GE
Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders wrap up a four-game home stand as
they host a Sharks team only a little above them in the standings that
will make a one-off trip for this game. Chelsea drew a false start
initially for Eastside, but her second attempt yielded just 96 points in
a poor start to the game. Bianca had a much more impressive opening
turn, collecting 543 to give Southridge a suitable lead. Taylor
countered with a great turn, ripping 842 to put the Sharks ahead with a
good outing. Debby got shut down by an odd deflection, ending her turn
at a pathetic 13 points for the Defenders. Niki kept the Eastside attack
dangerous, clobbering 868 to pad their lead with a significant boost.
Stephanie produced decent offense for Southridge with 453, but they
remain far behind with a player each to go. Paps capped the effort with
335 for the Sharks, bringing their final score to 2141 in an expected
victory. Hughbert did alright with 479 for the Defenders, closing their
loss at 1488 overall. Eastside gets an appreciated win to rise to 29-36,
while Southridge is officially eliminated from playoff contention at
25-39.
IBM
Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks are desperate to
keep their playoff hopes alive against the lowly but confident
Lumberjacks. Fluffina got off to a good start for Maplewood, lining 535
to give them a good foundation in this game. Peach had a bit of a weak
counterattack for North Modernistic, only drawing in with 224 as the
hosts start from behind. Diddley provided an even better second effort
for the Lumberjacks, smashing 824 to give their lead a large boost.
Luigi just about covered that round of damage with 805 for the
Nighthawks, keeping the deficit steady. Bryant didn't have the strongest
performance for Maplewood with his 319, leaving their lead a bit
vulnerable. Cheddar took advantage of the opportunity as presented for
North Modernistic, gathering a quick 614 to shrink the deficit
dramatically. Waluigi set a decent challenge with 343 for the
Lumberjacks, leaving them at 2021 total for the game. Bright thought he
had done enough for the Nighthawks, but his 375 left them at 2018 in a
heartbreaking and narrow defeat. Maplewood's upset lifts them to 18-42,
while North Modernistic collapses to 30-34.
Microsoft
Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs and Hummingbirds are close in the
standings, but neither side has a realistic chance at the playoffs at
this point. Princess didn't have a good first turn for Tysini, grabbing a
weak 150 to start off the visiting offense in poor form. Panda had an
ungraceful turn for Southern, but managed to put them ahead with a solid
343, good for a small initial lead. Leandra covered the deficit with a
stronger 556 for the Hummingbirds this time, making their offense more
respectable. Hoppy poked 368 in response for the Monarchs, doing just
enough to keep them ahead by a slim margin. Charli did a bit better than
Leandra, striking 562 to restore a solid lead for Tysini this time.
Pounce couldn't break his slump for Southern this time, adding a weak
111 to their now-trailing offense. Brownie did even better for the
Hummingbirds, launching 692 to give them a final of 1960. Shannon
couldn't form a rally for the Monarchs, her 279 leaving them in a loss
at 1101. Tysini picks up a solid win with their performance, going to
24-35, while Southern is 23-34 on the year.
That's all for this segment. I expect we'll resume play with an abbreviated session tomorrow night.
