UPCL Cricket - Week 31 Part 2

The middle segment of the week is here, and we begin with a big game in...

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames wrap up a pair of home games in this outing, battling with an Eagles team near them in the standings that is playing its seventh of a nine-game road trip. Everton got a solid performance from Goldy, as the captain began the scoring with 481 on her good turn. Crystal couldn't muster much in the way of pace for Queens, ending at 275 after a labored turn. Puff III suffered an unlucky deflection for the Eagles, cutting her turn short at a meager 72 points. Paige punished that mistake relentless for the Flames, crushing 1446 to give them a massive lead at the halfway mark. Kirstin had virtually no response for that with just 24 for Everton in a poor turn that keeps the deficit large. Violetta chipped only 215 for Queens, but their lead is in no danger with a player each to go. Blizzard made a furious rally with 1303 for the Eagles, but they still lost at 1880 for the game. Max had just 96 for the Flames, enough to cap their offense at 2032 in the win. Queens gets a big result to jump to 31-26, while Everton is hanging onto a playoff spot at 32-29 by the slimmest of margins.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows begin their final home stand of the year, with the next four at home, and this one is against a vicious road side in the Swifts. Patches calmly hammered 965 for Boston on the opening turn, giving them a wonderful start to the game. Sally had another terrible home start for Archtown, giving them a pathetic 9, obviously giving the hosts a deficit early on. Puff II replied with a bit more energy on her turn, ripping 600 for the Swifts to pad their significant lead. Sleepy B. got stalled at 332 for the Arrows, only putting a small dent in the deficit at the midway mark. Gradley countered with 360 for Boston on his turn, with a successful backhand quickly nullified by a deflected hit. Ruby got a ball caught behind her bat on her back swing, which she pulled into the stumps to cut her down at just 128 for a struggling Archtown team. Sweetheart got distracted on her turn, but she still grabbed 280 to ice the Swifts' offense at 2211. Dusky levied 746 for the Arrows to narrow the deficit, but the hosts still lost badly at 1215. Boston rises to 41-20 with the win, while Archtown drops down to 32-34 in a fourth straight home loss.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes try to end a four-game home stand in perfection when they face their Coastal Division rivals, the Monarchs, who are ending a three-game road trip. Panda had a shaky start for Southern, with a false start and a low pace on the replay, but he closed well with 650 to stake out a big lead. Starlight tried to get a bit too fancy for Pacific, bowing out at only 204 as Pacific will start from behind. Hoppy fired back with an even 500 for the Monarchs, giving their lead a nice extension. Ms. Kitty didn't let them get too far away, lashing out with 768 to keep the Volcanoes within striking distance. Pounce fought off that attack efficiently, hauling in 702 to keep Southern firmly in the lead. Leonette couldn't keep up for Pacific with only 187, putting them in a deep deficit with a player each to go. Shannon went with 295 for the Monarchs, a solid effort to give them a final of 2147 for the game. Chicky Phil did enough with 1001 for the Volcanoes to give them a win at 2160. Pacific's remarkable comeback lifts them to 42-19, while Southern drops down to 23-32 with the unfortunate loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks no longer have the weight of their home losing streak on their shoulders, making them dangerous against a Waves team opening a three-game road trip. Snuggle had to do a replay for Oceanside after a technical error, and ended up flicking 456 to do pretty well. Fluffina crashed hard on her turn, swinging too fast after a settling touch, resulting in just 6 points to begin the Maplewood offense. Caitlin smashed 998 in response for the Waves, the massive performance padding their lead quite nicely. Diddley had too much follow-through on one swing, ending at 289 for the Lumberjacks. Celestia took a bit of a nosedive for Oceanside, contributing a weak 168 to their cause. Bryant made some progress with 556 for Maplewood, but the deficit remains quite large at this point. Dewey poked just 131 for the Waves at the end, bringing their final to 1753. Waluigi undid that damage for the Lumberjacks, but his 169 left them well short with 1020 total in the loss. Oceanside gets a much-needed win to keep their slim hopes alive at 31-33, while Maplewood sinks to 16-41 with a return to losing form at home.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts can clinch a playoff spot with a win, while the Meteors hope a small reversal of fortunes can make them spoilers. Mams put in a solid appearance for Viewpoint Sound, raking in 384 to lead things off in acceptable form. Patches is officially in a home slump, kicking off Boston's three-game home stand with a paltry 128 on a third straight bad home turn. Hoot deflected one ball three times, the third ending his turn with just 24 for the Meteors in a frustrating outing. Puff II ran a blitz-like play for the Swifts, slicing 750 to carry them to a lead halfway through the game. Nibbles couldn't quite cover the deficit for Viewpoint Sound with 431 on his turn, but he did make it close for now. Gradley continued his solid run of form at home with 527 for Boston, boosting their lead a little bit. Dominic tried to make a comeback, but his 311 left the Meteors in an eighth straight road loss at 1150. Sweetheart capped the game with 554 individually for the Swifts, bringing their total to 1959 in the big win. Boston will be in the playoffs as they rise to 42-20, while Viewpoint Sound falls to 25-37 with the loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks wrap up a pair of home games just as the Wolves start a pair of road games through the Northeast. Juno was forced to go to her backhand for Stonebridge, popping the deflected ball too high to end with 384 in a reasonable start to the game. Fluffina went highly substantial for Maplewood, blasting 1459 to give them a huge lead initially. Frosty put in a challenge for the Wolves, lining 633 to shrink the deficit by a noticeable amount. Diddley didn't get it all back for the Lumberjacks, but he added 467 to their lead to keep things steady at the midway point. Cobalt fired a direct attack at that most recent burst of damage, hitting 465 for Stonebridge to keep the deficit even. Bryant weakened the Maplewood lead with only 117 on his turn, a poor outing from the veteran. Prism came up short for the Wolves with 332 to her name, leaving the team at 1814 overall. Under no pressure, Waluigi did really well with 487 for the Lumberjacks, icing their winning score at 2530. Maplewood gets a win to go to 17-41, while Stonebridge is down to 26-36 in the disappointing loss.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors wrap up a three-game home stand desperate for a win, while the Pirates are closing a three-game road trip in about the same shape. Delila did not show any mercy with 746 for Atlantic, burying the hosts quickly under the great appearance from the visiting captain. Twilight couldn't believe it when a ball got away from her, flying out of bounds to down her at a measly 80 for Central. Isabella piled on with even more strength for the Pirates, grabbing 790 to double their offense. Dustin did his part to mitigate the damage for the Warriors, muscling up for 804 this time around. Americus had a bit of a stumble with 273 for Atlantic, and they don't feel all that safe despite the size of their lead. Mario couldn't mount a comeback for Central, with only 167 in a lost opportunity of a turn. Klaus did even worse with just 160 for the Pirates, leaving their final score at 1969 this time. Gizmo had 295 for the Warriors, making a small dent in the deficit but ultimately leaving them in a loss with 1346. Atlantic breaks their slump to get to 35-29, while Central is down to 36-25 in a sixth straight loss overall.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders begin a doubleheader by hosting the Wolves, with the visitors trying to spoil a furious seasonal comeback. Juno remained solid but unremarkable in her offense, taking 361 for Stonebridge in this appearance. Shadow easily met the challenge for Web City, lining 569 to give the hosts a noticeable lead early in the game. Frosty stepped up with 385 for the Wolves on her turn, covering the deficit with the solid performance. Ted gave a good run of support for the Spiders, knocking 608 to grow the lead just a bit at the halfway mark of the game. Cobalt let the game get away from Stonebridge, as his nifty backhand was only half of a play, the other half seeing him swing and miss to end on a minor 201. Shiny didn't pull away for Web City at all, ceding a bit of ground with just 176 on her turn in a somewhat close game. Prism couldn't get the Wolves on track, ending at a meager 98 to give them a final score of 1045 in the loss. Dani capped the Spiders win with 246 individually, bringing their total to 1599. Web City's hard-earned win carries them to 28-29, while Stonebridge is 26-37 after the loss.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns look to spoil the Spiders, as the former begins a three-game home stand and the latter opens a four-game road trip at the end of a doubleheader. Shadow had a bit of an ill-advised backhand for Web City, hitting his wicket cleanly to end his turn at just 174. Nightfur broke a recent stretch of good home form, ending on a poor 135 in this appearance. Ted provided a much more dangerous second attack for the Spiders, cranking out a big 692 in the outing. Jake looked like he had a chance to catch up, but a bad swing ended his turn abruptly at 376 for the Crowns. Shiny cancelled out all of that damage on her turn with 375 for Web City, keeping their lead steady for now. Kayla got a bit overzealous for Royal, swinging high and ending up low at 168 as the deficit grows late in the game. Dani supplied another 448 for the Spiders at the end of the game, raising their offense to 1689 total. Hannah got taken down at 258 for the Crowns, leaving them at a loss with 937 despite not seeming out of it at any point. Web City is an even 29-29 now, while Royal sinks to 22-39 with the loss.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents come home for a pair of games just as the Lumberjacks head on the road for a pair themselves. Fluffina continued to show growing confidence in her swings for Maplewood, tallying 845 this time to give the visitors a great start to the game. Precious just let a ball sneak behind her bat on a back swing, and she took out her own wicket at 610 for Pronger, a reasonable counterattack. Diddley picked up 300 for the Lumberjacks, slightly weakening their lead with the effort. Zach wasted the chance for a comeback, hitting a paltry 69 for the Tridents instead. Bryant ran a good line of support for Maplewood with 558, only ending on an ugly swing-and-miss situation. Spot tried to cut back for Pronger with a solid 477, but the deficit grew a little bit more anyway. Waluigi had a pitiful 24 for the Lumberjacks, unable to release his swing in one instance that ended his turn to give them 1727 overall. Potter made enough of a push to snag the win for the Tridents, his 624 leading them to 1780 overall in a narrow victory. Pronger survives a scare to get to 32-27, while Maplewood sinks to 17-42 in the loss.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige aren't officially eliminated yet, but they're close as they host the Cascades for the second of their four-game road trip. Jasmine thinks she might have just won the game for Freedom on the first turn, scooping and smashing her way to a massive 1688. Acorn didn't do much to counter her with only 248 for Lighton, putting them far behind early on. Stinky provided plenty of support for the Cascades with his 684, padding their lead even more. Spirit had a false start on her first try, but didn't do much better with a weak 36 for the Prestige on the second try. Roxy chopped another 375 for Freedom, cruising along to keep the visitors firmly in the lead. Twinkie I made progress in a technical sense, but her 674 for Lighton made little impact on the practical deficit facing her team. Nikolai got severely distracted for the Cascades, crashing out at 37 to leave them with 2784 in what should be a win. Salmo had little chance of catching up, and his 167 confirmed that as the Prestige took the loss on a final of 1125. Freedom jumps to 22-39, already eliminated, while Lighton is a loss away from elimination at 28-38.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks wrap up a five-game home stand against the Flames, who make a one-off road trip for the first of two meetings between these teams over a three-game span. Crystal had a solid start for Queens, chipping 448 to get the visitors going. Peach didn't have a very strong pace for North Modernistic, slowly building up to 495 to give them a small lead. Paige kept the offense fairly steady for the Flames with her 487, covering the deficit with ease. Luigi slipped up with 384 for the Nighthawks, the slight decline in production putting the hosts behind at the midway mark. Violetta reached another level for Queens in attack, churning out 840 to put them well ahead with her performance. Cheddar didn't have a comeback in her this time, bowing out at 98 for North Modernistic as the deficit may be too big for them to overcome. Max capped a productive effort by the Flames with 448, giving them 2223 total in what should be a win. Bright stumbled down at 201 for the Nighthawks, leaving them in a loss with 1178. Queens gets the first part of the fixture to rise to 32-26, while North Modernistic falls again to 30-32.

That's all for this segment. We'll resume the night's action shortly in the final segment of the week, and that will finish tomorrow night.
