UPCL Cricket - Week 32 Part 1

We're getting closer to the end of the season now as we begin a new week of games. We will try to match league weeks with calendar weeks over the course of the rest of August. Let's begin in...

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters try to stay in the playoff hunt by hosting a Monarchs team struggling to generate consistent offense. Panda led things off with force for Southern, ripping 792 on the opening turn to give the visitors a stable start. Chris shot back with a similar style but even better pace for Capital City, putting them ahead with a huge 912. Hoppy covered the deficit for the Monarchs with a solid 560, giving them a smaller cushion this time. Missy bested that effort just slightly, collecting 587 to restore a stable lead for the Sharpshooters. Pounce continued to apply pressure for Southern, cranking out 649 to cover the deficit again. His daughter, Sprinkles, finally crumbled for Capital City, her 280 leaving them behind with a player each to go. Shannon paddled 512 for the Monarchs at the end, sealing their offense at 2513 total. Nicole couldn't do enough for the Sharpshooters with 296, leaving them to lose at 2075 overall. Southern enjoys a nice offense to rise to 24-34, while Capital City dips down to 30-34.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters have a tough draw at home, hosting a well-rested Blades team returning to action after two weeks off. Snowball showed well despite the long layoff, pulling 551 for Swordpoint in a steady opening turn for the visitors. Sydney kept the game relatively close for Harrison, posting 449 in her counterattacking first turn. Dreamy kept pretty much in step with her captain for the Blades, doubling their offense with her 550 in another good turn. Twinkie II put a dent in the deficit for the Specters with her 608, with the turn ending on a mishit ball. Bandit tossed Swordpoint's lead away with a terrible turn, earning only 16 points as they become highly vulnerable. Lexi could have done better for Harrison in building their lead, but her 328 will have to do for now. Stealth produced 320 for the Blades on his turn, technically forcing a response as his side closes with 1437. Sugar had no trouble meeting that mark with 470 for the Specters, carrying them to a win with 1855 overall. Harrison pulls off the surprising upset to go to 23-36, while Swordpoint shows a bit of rust late in the game to drop to 43-23.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames return home for a four-game stay late in the season, first welcoming the league-leading Volcanoes to town in a big match. Starlight showed remarkable control on her backhand to keep her turn alive, and then she turned up the pace to produce 847 for Pacific in the lead-off spot. Crystal didn't even come close for Queens, falling at a meager 90 points. Ms. Kitty left the door open for the hosts to come back, as her 144 weakened the Volcanoes lead dramatically. Paige failed to capitalize on the opportunity, as a deflection stalled her at 87 for the Flames. Leonette hit another 448 for Pacific on her turn, padding their lead nicely with another burst of offense. Violetta did better than her teammates, but she still struggled to grab 239 for Queens in one of those lackluster games for the hosts. Chicky Phil tacked on another 327 for the Volcanoes, putting their final score at 1766 in what should be a win. Max had a rough turn like the rest of the Flames, with his 256 capping their loss at 672. Pacific easily stomps their way to 43-19, while Queens slips down to 33-29 on the year.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs are trying to embrace the spoiler role, as the Shores come to town fresh off a bye week to play the second of their three-game road trip. Bear had a bit of a rough turn for Whitewater, going at a good pace but with a wild swing that betrayed him to end at 232. Spice couldn't catch up for Victoria, taking just 49 points as they fall behind in a low-scoring game. Twinkie III managed just 132 for the Shores in another disappointing effort. Yekaterina got the Spurs back into the game with her 332, but neither team looks deserving of the win halfway through. Marsell showed a bit of strength for Whitewater with his 471, giving them a more stable lead. B. Chapman couldn't keep up for Victoria, crashing out at 288 as they face a minor deficit heading into the final players' turns. Shaggy wasted the chance to pad the lead for the Shores, taking a pathetic 49 to ice their score at 884. Wario couldn't meet the challenge for the Spurs, ending on just 164 as they close their loss with 833 total. Whitewater takes one of the ugliest wins of the year to get to 34-22, while Victoria drops down to 27-32.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers are ready to return from a bye for their second of a four-game home stand, meeting the Spiders in their second of a four-game road trip. Shadow got things going with 472 for Web City, a solid performance from the captain to start the game. Misty set the tone rather favorably for Westside with 942 on her turn, just about doubling the opposition's effort. After a couple of replays, Ted managed to haul in 570 for the Spiders, covering the deficit with his work. Goatee staved off enough of that attack to keep the Rockers in the lead, padding their offense with 508. Shiny slipped up a bit for Web City, contributing only 256 to their score in a mediocre appearance. Midnight took advantage of that misplay, rallying with 697 for Westside to extend their lead significantly near the end of the game. Dani chipped in with 330 for the Spiders, leaving them short at 1628 in the tough loss. Slinks capped the Rockers win with 608 in an excellent finishing turn to give them 2755 for the winning final. Westside is up to 41-20 for the year, while Web City drops down to 29-30 in a critical loss.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades try to regain themselves at home, while the Eagles play the eighth of a frustrating nine-game road trip. Goldy pummeled 932 for Everton on the opening turn, quickly giving her side a massive lead they've been desperately craving. Snowball tried to rally back for Swordpoint, using a powerful swing to gather up 663 for a cut into the deficit. Puff III poked 343 for the Eagles to keep them in control of the game despite their smaller lead. Dreamy launched 853 for the Blades in response, putting them ahead at the halfway mark of the game. Kirstin lost control when a ball got behind her bat early on, cutting off her turn at 113 for Everton as she failed to cover the deficit. Bandit absolutely missed the ball on one of his swings, ending with only 145 for Swordpoint to keep the visitors alive. Blizzard struggled with her pace for the Eagles, stalling at 311 to leave them with 1699 total, forcing a small response from the hosts. Stealth did more than enough with 423 for the Blades, closing their offense at 2084 in the win. Swordpoint gets a boost to 44-23, while Everton slips again to 32-30, falling out of the playoff picture for the first time in almost two years.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills put an eight-game home winning streak on the line as they return home to face a formidable Pilots side in their first of a pair of road games. Valencia got a little bit distracted for Golden early in her turn, bowing out at just 82 points for the visitors. Easter fired back in good form for Todavía, crunching 529 to put them well ahead. Dusty didn't manage to cover the deficit for the Pilots, taking a mild 305 in an unremarkable outing from the veteran. Sierra pounded 801 for the Stills on the next turn, extending their lead significantly at the midway mark. Strut had a decent performance going before the cricket equivalent of a foul-tip caught him out at 429 when it took out his stumps. Sparkles did well for Todavía, keeping the lead steady with her 433 as they head into the final players' turns. A. Charlton had a sloppy finish for the Pilots with 194, lifting a ball as she got pressured by a quick offering. They lost with 1010 overall. Bells iced the Stills win with a small 129, bringing their winning total to 1892. Todavía is hot at home with a ninth straight win to get to 36-28, while Golden drops down to 42-23 with the unfortunate loss.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: Two teams plagued all season by inconsistency meet in this game, with the Monarchs hoping being home will help them against the Specters. Sydney had a bit of a choppy turn for Harrison at the start, picking up a mild 209 as she sent a ball out of play fairly early. Panda shot back with a much more stable 529 for Southern, giving the hosts the initial lead with his sturdy performance. Twinkie II had already committed to a swing when a deflection occurred, ending her turn at 304 for the Specters. Hoppy crippled the Monarchs lead with a measly 24 on her turn, getting beat by a deflection quickly. Lexi didn't have the greatest turn for Harrison, but her 332 put them ahead at least temporarily. Pounce couldn't keep up for Southern with his 192, the underwhelming turn putting them behind with a player each to go. Sugar chipped in with 439 for the Specters at the end, bringing their final score to 1284. Shannon tried to response with 409 for the Monarchs, but they ended up taking the loss at 1154 total. Harrison survives a gritty game to get to 24-36, sitting just half a game back of the 24-35 Southern side.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are set to continue their four-game home stand with a doubleheader, first facing their Southeastern rivals, the Defenders. Bianca tried to keep her turn going with a backhand, but she just missed the flick play and ended at a weaker 223 for Southridge. Crystal just did better than doubling that mark, slicing 447 for Queens to give them a solid initial lead. Debby didn't have much trouble in covering the deficit with a solid 424 for the Defenders as the score remains close. Paige crumbled with only 161 for the Flames, showing signs of fatigue from her recent good performances. Stephanie couldn't solidify anything for Southridge with 138 as the game takes a sloppy turn at this point. Violetta responded with a chaotic 340 for Queens, pulling them ahead again with a player each to go. Hughbert knocked another 391 for the Defenders, forcing the hosts to respond as the visitors close at 1176. Max sealed up the win with 466 for the Flames, bringing their total up to 1414 in the win. Queens goes to 34-29, while Southridge falls to 25-40 with the difficult division loss.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames change jerseys as quickly as they change opponents, wrapping the doubleheader up against the Spiders, who are in their third of a four-game road trip. Shadow made a huge impact at the start of the game, slugging 1286 for Web City to give them a dream start. Crystal shot back with a respectable 510 for Queens, but the deficit remains large for the hosts. Ted couldn't give much support for the Spiders, a deflection ending his turn very early at a paltry 78. Paige made a nice dent in the deficit with 496 on her turn, bringing the Flames a lot closer at the halfway mark. Shiny churned out another 766 for Web City, doing quite well in her appearance to get the visitors back on track. Violetta had a strong performance in response for Queens, keeping them on the fringe with 685. Dani tried to pop a good result, but came up with a measly 33 for the Spiders, closing their score at 2163. Max tried a rally with 357 for the Flames, but they wouldn't make it, losing with 2048 total. Web City did just enough to hold on, winning to go to 30-30, while Queens is down to 34-30 after the tough loss.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Monarchs are back on the road again as they wind their schedule down, facing a desperate Arrows team in their second of a four-game home stand. Panda struck quickly with 572 for Southern in a strong opening turn by the visiting captain. Sally broke out of her deep home slump, cranking out 520 to keep Archtown fairly close after the initial turn. Hoppy got just about all of that attack back for the Monarchs, gathering a strong 519. Sleepy B. couldn't keep up for the Arrows, crashing out at 216 as they fall behind at the halfway mark. Pounce didn't exactly put Southern's lead at an unreachable height, taking a simple 235 instead. Ruby cut into the deficit with a stable appearance of 485, keeping things close as the final players take their turns. Shannon grabbed another 225 for the Monarchs, the slow finish leaving them vulnerable at 1551 overall. Dusky faltered at 120 for the Arrow, unable to cover the deficit as they take the loss at 1341. Southern is relishing a spoiler role as their schedule heats up, and they rise to 25-35, while Archtown is in trouble at 32-35.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters try to pull off an upset in the segment finale, while the Sharpshooters start a critical three-game road trip in this game. Chris had a replay for a technical error, but his second attempt ended up being worse as Capital City got just 88 to start the game with. Sydney couldn't get the scoring off the ground either, a deflection cutting her off at 180 for Harrison. Missy turned the game around for the Sharpshooters, belting 1386 to give the visitors a massive lead. Twinkie II tried to make a response for the Specters, collecting 447 to mildly dent the deficit. Sprinkles easily cancelled out that effort, tacking on another 544 for Capital City in a good appearance. Lexi kept her turn short with just 66 for Harrison, passively admitting defeat in this game. Nicole poked 259 for the Sharpshooters at the end of the game, closing their offense at a reliable 2277. Sugar couldn't get a deep rally going, bowing out with 208 as the Specters lose with 901 total. Capital City is still in the playoff hunt at 31-34, while Harrison is down to 24-37 with the loss.

That's all for this segment. We'll be continuing with segment 32.2 live on Twitter @UnitedPCL.
