We're into the second-to-last week of the season, and as we start, one team's season comes to an end. We begin with...
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights are back after a week off, and they face a Defenders team closing out their season on the road. Bianca got Southridge off to a solid start in this game, taking 432 on the opening turn to begin the scoring. Kiwi couldn't solve her swing for Terrace City, ending at 69 after a deflected hit went out of bounds in an unfortunate play. Debby had a good backhand to briefly extend her turn before falling with 338 in a low-pace appearance for the Defenders. Jennifer chipped the Knights back into the fight with her 579, closing the gap a bit. Her younger sister showed her up, as Southridge's Stephanie restored the lead with her 591 in a strong appearance. Oreo couldn't get it all back for Terrace City, finishing her turn with a solid 490 to keep things close for now. Hughbert faltered at the end with 122 for the Defenders, leaving them vulnerable at 1483 total. Stripes failed for the Knights with 138, putting them at a loss with 1276. Southridge ends the season on a high note at 27-43, but only 12-23 on the road, and Terrace City dips to 37-30.
HP Field, Midland: The Predators are back home for a pair of games, while the Tridents play their second of a three-game road trip in this battle for positioning. Precious couldn't handle a persistent distraction for Pronger, crashing out at just 74 points on the opening turn. Shawn took full advantage of the opportunity, crushing 1071 to put Midland far ahead after the first turns. Zach countered with 432 for the Tridents in a solid attempt to mitigate the damage done against his team. Rainmane also went deep for the Predators, extending their lead with a hefty 840 at the midway mark. Spot made a good response with 750 for Pronger, but the deficit remains large against the visitors. Leonardo had only 160 for Midland on his turn, the poor quality of play excused given the large lead the hosts enjoy. Potter actually managed to force a response from the hosts, ripping a huge 910 to give the Tridents 2166 overall. Fuchsia choked the game away with an errant double hit that produced only 8 points, and the Predators lost with 2079 total. Pronger's surprising comeback gets them to 35-30, while Midland is 40-26 now.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores begin a stretch of 11 games in two league weeks, while the Spurs play three of the next four games, all to end a five-game road trip. Spice didn't have a great game going, so upon a technical error, she decided to accept 374 for Victoria rather than take a replay. Bear did enough with his 448 for Whitewater to put the hosts ahead initially by a small margin. Yekaterina had an unusually weak turn for the Spurs with just 87, barely covering the deficit. Twinkie III showed off a powerful swing but a lack of longevity for the Shores, adding 350 to their offense. B. Chapman fired back with 455 for Victoria on her turn, doing well to cover the deficit with her performance. Marsell regained a lead with 247 for Whitewater, but not by much, leading to a close finish as the final players step up to take their turns. Wario didn't impress much with 309 for the Spurs, leaving them at 1225, which will force the hosts to respond. Shaggy chipped a mild 208 for the Shores, but they earned the win at 1253. Whitewater rises to 37-23, while Victoria is down to 30-34 on the year.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds are back home for a pair of games, while the Spurs wrap their doubleheader up with the fourth of a five-game road trip. Spice tried to keep Victoria going well, but her 333 leaves them feeling a bit disappointed as the scoring woes persist. Princess couldn't clear a ball off of her backhand in time to make contact with the next one, ending at 560 in a strong start for Tysini. Yekaterina's road slump continued to a new low with only a pitiful 28 for the Spurs this time. Leandra lost control of her swing at the end, but she hauled in 405 to extend the Hummingbirds lead. B. Chapman lost more ground for Victoria on her turn, scoring a mediocre 234 as the game gets out of hand. Charli had a strong and positive outing for Tysini on her turn, churning her way to 558 to pad the lead once again. Wario sealed the Spurs' fate in this game with an accidental hit backwards on his backswing, leaving his turn at 270 and their total at 865. Brownie tacked on another 599 for the Hummingbirds to give them 2122 overall in the win. Tysini played spoiler well to get to 27-38, while Victoria is down at 30-35, a loss away from elimination.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors try to strengthen their playoff positioning against a Knights team with a chance to clinch as they start their pair of road games. Kiwi did well at the start for Terrace City, swinging her way to 487 to give them a stable foundation to build upon. Twilight got jammed on her final swing to end at 371 for Central, keeping them within range early on. Jennifer slugged a massive 1336 for the Knights, boosting their lead significantly with the second attack. Dustin tried to make a counterattack for the Warriors, but ended with a decent 448, too little to make an impact. Oreo ran another supporting attack for Terrace City, pummeling 695 to boost their lead again. Mario grabbed a simple 400 for Central in response, trying to get to the end of the game without embarrassment. Stripes poked 215 more for the Knights at the end, setting their final score at 2733. Gizmo went with 311 for the Warriors on his turn, bringing their losing final to 1530. Terrace City locked themselves into a playoff spot with the win to get to 38-30, while Central dips to 39-26 with the loss.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots end their home schedule for the season when they host the Spurs, who are closing a five-game road trip in this appearance. Spice finally made her big breakout with 688 for Victoria to lead off in this game, setting them up for success throughout the game. Valencia tried to keep it close for Golden, striking 512 in a good response despite the early deficit. Yekaterina didn't do as well for the Spurs, hitting 352, but she's broken out of the deepest part of her road slump. Dusty made very marginal progress with 377 for the Pilots, shrinking the deficit very slightly. B. Chapman gave the Victoria lead a bit more strength on her turn, slicing 488 to pad the lead at a critical point in the game. Strut took a very awkward swing at a ball just out of his range, which he poked up and out of play to end on a meager 81 for Golden. Wario failed to make a big impact for the Spurs, taking 256 to put them at 1756 for the game, which require the hosts to do some work. A. Charlton made a valiant effort with 599 for the Pilots, but they took the loss at 1569 overall. Victoria's upset moves them to 31-35, while Golden is 44-24, and finishes 21-14 at home for the year.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters hope to keep their playoff dream alive, but the Spiders want to keep theirs going and spoil their hosts' chances at the same time. Shadow had decent longevity but a drastic lack of pace to score 314 for Web City at the start of the game. Chris shot back with 744 for Capital City, the firm performance lifting the hosts ahead initially. Ted did enough with 476 for the Spiders on his turn, covering the deficit to keep things interesting. Missy hit a rough patch of swings during her turn, and made her exit with only 272 points, weakening the Sharpshooters lead. Shiny countered with 505 for Web City on her turn, covering the deficit much more thoroughly this time. Sprinkles fought off the danger successfully with 536 for Capital City, maintaining their lead as the final players come to bat. Dani forced a response from the hosts with her 322, giving the Spiders a final score of 1617 against her former team. Nicole sealed the win with 281 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a final of 1833 in the win. Capital City rises to 33-35, still in the playoff hunt, while Web City sinks to 30-34 with the damaging loss.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades close a pair of home games here, while the Flames embark on their final road trip of the year, a four-game burst at a critical point in their season. Crystal saw a ball sneak under her bat after a premature swing, and she couldn't save it, falling with 344 for Queens. Jasmine answered with 320 for Freedom, keeping things close despite not covering the deficit this time. Paige had a good appearance going until a ball parked itself dead on the pitch, cutting her pace and crippling her score at 269 for the Flames. Stinky had a couple of fortunate deflections for the Cascades, before stalling at 372 on a bad swing. Violetta got Queens going with more force, launching 915 to pull the visitors distinctly ahead. Roxy answered pretty well with 619 for Freedom, but they remain behind with a player each to go. Max provided 456 for the Flames at the end, icing their offense at 1984. A slight backward deflection from Nikolai ended his turn at a weak 159, giving the Cascades a final of 1470 in the loss. Queens rises to 36-30, while Freedom sinks to 23-42 with the loss.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates are home for their last two games, hosting a Union side ending its road schedule and a five-game road trip all at once in a pivotal battle. Ms. Puppy scooped up 330 for Modernistic, choosing to accept that score rather than do a replay for a technical error. Delila belted 1074 for Atlantic on her opening turn, giving the hosts a large lead initially. Daisy slipped with 184 for the Union, barely denting the deficit now facing her side. Isabella actually weakened the Pirates lead with a pathetic 37 on her turn, but they remain ahead at the halfway mark. Puff I saw her pace crater for Modernistic as she went rapidly between forehand and backhand to keep her turn alive before ending at 429. Americus kept Atlantic in firm control of the game, lining 843 after a nearly disastrous start to her appearance. Strawberry slipped up at a measly 21 for the Union, leaving them to lose at 964. Klaus tapped another 407 for the Pirates at the end, icing their win at 2361. Atlantic rises to 38-31, clinching their playoff spot, while Modernistic is 35-33, and they went 16-19 on the road.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders try to keep their playoff hopes alive now, returning home to face a Cascades team setting out on their final four-game road trip of the year. Jasmine couldn't get enough under her swings to lift the pace, ending on an acceptable 332 for Freedom after her opening turn. Shadow lashed out with a big performance for Web City, smacking 800 to put them far ahead. Stinky covered the deficit well for the Cascades with his 624, the surge keeping the game close. Ted stepped up for a solid 466 for the Spiders, muscling them ahead again halfway through the game. Roxy kept Freedom's attack strong once more, covering the deficit again with 639. Shiny maintained the Web City lead with 496 on her turn, but the margin of their lead is shrinking as the final players come to bat. Nikolai sputtered to 256 for the Cascades on his turn, bringing their final score to 1851. Dani held on with 233 for the Spiders, chipping them to a winning total of 1995 in the intense game. Web City keeps their playoff chances alive at 31-34, while Freedom sinks to 23-43 after the tough loss.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Flames play their second of a four-game road trip while visiting a desperate Union side opening their last pair of home games. Crystal is picking a rough time of the year for diminished road returns, taking only 240 to open for Queens in this one. Ms. Puppy punished Crystal's mistake, carving out a huge 1114 for Modernistic to take the initial lead with. It's looking like a lost game for the Flames, as Paige fell with just 79 points after failing to corral a ball on her backhand. Daisy shot back with 586 for the Union, padding their lead significantly. Violetta tried to make a solid response for Queens, but ended at 456, unable to dent the deficit much at all. Puff I allowed Modernistic to ease up a bit, cruising with 280 as their lead seems quite stable. Max got his bat stuck in the ground, and then his backswing knocked a ball into the stumps to stall him at 527 and end the Flames' offense at 1303 in the loss. Strawberry got a bit excessive at the end for the Union, cranking out 843 to give them 2823 total in the win. Modernistic is now 36-33 on the year, getting some breathing room at the bubble, while Queens is 36-31.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors wrap up a pair of home games against a desperate Northeastern rival, the Spiders, who return to the road for a pair of games. Shadow set the tone for Web City very quickly, attacking with pace to scrounge up 679 for the early lead. Twilight had already committed to swing when a deflection sent a ball out of play to end her turn at only 166 for Central. Ted let the Spiders lead weaken as a deflection also ended his turn at a paltry 57. Dustin got some of it back for the Warriors, but he would have liked more than the 312 he got. Shiny went big for Web City on her turn, boosting their lead by blasting 1084 to make life tough for the hosts. Mario tried his best to keep Central in the fight with 736, but the deficit remains large with a player each to go. Dani tacked on another 802 at the end for the Spiders, bringing their final score to 2622 in a likely victory. A deflection brought down Gizmo at 201 for the Warriors, giving them 1415 total in the loss. Web City stays alive again with the win to get to 32-34, while Central slips again to 39-27 with the loss.
That's all for today's games. We'll be back tomorrow with a new segment of action.
