UPCL Cricket - Week 31 Part 1

We're back to lead off a new week, about to reach a checkpoint. We begin this segment with...

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are back home for a single game, while the Meteors start a three-game road trip against a very vulnerable host. Mams probably deserved better than what she got for Viewpoint Sound, serving up a solid pace before a bad hit took her down at 256. Fluffina countered well with 433 for Maplewood, giving them the initial lead, a rarity for the hosts. Hoot barely got the Meteors back into the game, producing only 179 on a poor second attack. Diddley did much better for the Lumberjacks on his turn, cranking out a big 648 to pad their lead halfway through the game. Nibbles countered with 547 for Viewpoint Sound, trying to keep them within striking distance should a chance materialize. Bryant held off the attack quite well for Maplewood, ceding only a little bit of the lead by scoring 512. Dominic had only 90 for the Meteors, giving them a sixth-straight road loss with 1072 total. Waluigi couldn't change his poor play, but his 54 served as icing as the Lumberjacks snap a 20-game home losing streak with their win at 1647. Maplewood rises to 16-39, while Viewpoint Sound sinks to 25-35, almost certainly out of the playoff picture realistically.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors look to get back on track by beginning a three-game home stand, while the Monarchs play their second of three straight road games. Panda's double-hit early in his turn ended up being the end of a short turn as he closed with just 12 for Southern. Twilight answered with 256 for Central to give them a modest lead initially. Hoppy covered the deficit with 306 for the Monarchs, not inspiring much confidence in a low-scoring game. Dustin regained the lead with a pitiful 115 for the Warriors, but there's plenty left to play in this messy game. Pounce didn't have a ton of pace for Southern, but his persistent swing worked well to accumulate 592 and give the visitors a solid lead. Mario couldn't form an acceptable response for Central, crashing out at 124 as they fall far behind with a player each to go. Shannon tapped another 218 for the Monarchs at the end, giving them 1128 total. Gizmo nearly doubled the Warriors offense with his 487, but they are in a full-on crisis now with a loss at 982. Southern pulled off the upset to go to 23-31, while Central is down to 36-23 in a massive slump.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks begin a quick home doubleheader, with their first game coming against a Lumberjacks team feeling better than they have in months. Fluffina pounded 673 for Maplewood to lead off this game, clearly feeling more comfortable. Chelsea fired back with a firm 578 for Eastside, keeping them in close proximity early in the game. Diddley hit a ball upward and then pulled back on his back-swing too late, knocking his wicket down at 328 to add to the Lumberjacks lead. Taylor did a good job of cutting into the deficit with 416, bringing the Sharks very close at the midway point. Bryant faltered a bit further for Maplewood with only 184, leaving their lead highly vulnerable now. He got away with it for now, as Niki couldn't best him, falling off her pace and leaving the game with only 177 to double the still-small deficit. Waluigi also produced 184 for the Lumberjacks, leaving them at 1369 in a too-close-to-call game. Paps made the Sharks proud with 392, carrying them to the gritty win at 1563. Eastside rises up to 27-36, while Maplewood is officially eliminated from contention at 16-40.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks wrap up the doubleheader against the Waves, who are wrapping up their own three-game road trip with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance. Snuggle played a very strong game for Oceanside, leading off with 591 to establish their offense quite well. Chelsea stayed in form for Eastside, but at the lower end of her range as she hit 476 in response. Caitlin had a mess of a turn for the Waves, taking a low pace and a couple of poorly hit balls to end on 48. Taylor had no trouble in covering the deficit for the Sharks with her 486, putting them noticeably ahead. Celestia regained a modest lead for Oceanside with 532 on her turn, a solid performance from the rookie. Niki lost a bit of ground for Eastside on her turn, but their balance remains sharp as she hit 495 to reclaim the lead late in the game. Dewey chipped 235 for the Waves on his turn, but this wasn't enough, and they lost with 1406 total. Paps led the way in scoring for the Sharks with 527, icing their win at 1984. Eastside had a convincing victory to get to 28-36, while Oceanside falls to 30-32 in the loss.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters are ready to host the Specters in their first meeting of the year, with the visitors beginning a doubleheader. Sydney set Harrison up for success with a great first turn, lining 597 to give them a large lead at the start of the game. Chris kept things very close for Capital City this time, his 584 making it a minuscule margin of deficit. Twinkie II doubled down for the Specters with her 631, padding their lead quite nicely with her performance. Missy faltered with a mild 234 for the Sharpshooters, making the deficit noticeable at the halfway mark. Lexi tacked on a reasonable 424 for Harrison, although she wanted more but a deflection stalled her. Sprinkles made things worse in a poor comeback attempt for Capital City, ending on only 202 as they fall farther behind. Sugar hauled in 492 at the end for the Specters, setting their final score at 2144. Nicole was solid with 352 for the Sharpshooters, but they came up short at 1372 in the loss. Harrison improves to 21-36, while Capital City drops to 30-33 with the loss.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are back home to wrap up their doubleheader at the start of a three-game home stand, while the Hummingbirds begin a doubleheader on the road. Princess fell out of her recent road form with a measly 90 for Tysini to begin this game. Sydney showed up much better for Harrison with 576, staking out a significant early lead for the hosts. Leandra did enough to cover the deficit for the Hummingbirds with her 583, but not by much. Twinkie II retook the lead for the Specters with 305, a smaller lead carrying them to the midway mark. Charli kept things interesting for Tysini, covering the deficit again with her 431. Lexi managed to restore an even smaller lead for Harrison with her 289, setting up an interesting finish for this game. Brownie put up 418 for the Hummingbirds to close out this game, forcing a response from the hosts as her side closes at 1522. Sugar bested her mark with 471 for the Specters, bringing their final to 1641 in the win. Harrison gets through their doubleheader unscathed at 22-36, while Tysini is off to a rough start at 23-34.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds return home to complete their doubleheader, while the Swifts are back to their happy place for a pair of road games. Patches finally broke the barrier to player of the week status with 707 for Boston, the first 700+ performance all week (standard may be lowered this one time). Princess countered pretty well for the circumstances with 457 for Tysini. Puff II fought off that attack successfully for the Swifts, grabbing 472 to keep their lead steady for now. Leandra narrowed the deficit a bit with 536 on her turn for the Hummingbirds, keeping them close. Gradley let Boston slip a bit more on his turn, contributing 443 to their offense, with a still-solid lead. Charli couldn't make a break from mediocrity for Tysini, collecting only 248 as they lose a lot of ground with little time left to recover. Sweetheart left the Swifts severely vulnerable by hitting a pathetic 3 points, ending their offense at 1625. Brownie fell short as a ball got behind her bat and went out of bounds to down her at 144, giving the Hummingbirds a losing final of 1385. Boston gets away with the win to go to 40-20, while Tysini sinks to 23-35.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors are fighting to hang on now in the second of a three-game home stand, while the Torpedoes try to get a better position in the standings. Smudge did pretty well to open the scoring for Infinity, batting 471 for a solid appearance by the captain. Twilight didn't quite catch up for Central, but her 457 gives them a fighting chance going forward. Solaris blew things open with 829 for the Torpedoes, putting them well ahead after that potent second attack. Dustin got out of his recent home scoring rut, but his 373 kept the Warriors in a distinctly trailing position. Whiskers hammered another 631 for Infinity on her turn, providing a huge extension to their lead. Mario can't solve his home scoring woes, ending on a paltry 119 as Central falls even farther behind. Mr. Snowman put up 296 for the Torpedoes at the end, setting their final score at 2227 in what should be a win. Gizmo gave a comeback a solid try for the Warriors, but his 619 was too little and they lost with 1568. Infinity is the latest to pound the Warriors, going up to 35-29, while Central dips again to 36-24 in the midst of a huge crisis.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves have returned home just for this one game, hosting a high-flying Pilots team making a one-off appearance on the road. Valencia set the tone right off the bat with 916 for Golden, a huge performance to give the visitors a great lead early on. Snuggle fired back with 663 for Oceanside on his turn, a high-scoring opener for both sides. Dusty dropped off the pace with 225 for the Pilots, damaging the strength of their lead with her middling turn. Caitlin also had a poor turn for the Waves, picking up a sorry 161 as she failed to capitalize on a chance to rally. Strut took advantage of the second chance for Golden, slugging 1135 to boost their lead tremendously. Celestia popped up with a strong 673 for Oceanside, but that wasn't enough to offset the damage and the hosts remain behind with a player each to go. A. Charlton brought the game to a close for the Pilots with her 551, icing their offense at 2827 in what should be a win. Dewey had nothing to help the Waves get back into the game, bowing at a meager 37 to give them 1534 total. Golden rises up to 42-21, while Oceanside dips to 30-33.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders play in their second of a four-game home stand against another struggling side, the Meteors, in their second of three straight on the road. Mams batted a decent 464 for Viewpoint Sound to begin the game in good form for the visitors. Bianca got a bit lucky with the spin on a ball that hit the knob of her bat, as it went to the back 4s, but she missed on the next one, giving Southridge a small lead with her 505. Hoot nearly got all of it back with 495 for the Meteors, easily covering the deficit on his turn. Debby shot back with 620 for the Defenders, a well-hit turn to reclaim a lead for the hosts. Nibbles cracked at just 28 for Viewpoint Sound, accidentally knocking a ball into his stumps for the early exit. Stephanie did her part to pad the Southridge lead with 487 on her turn, giving them more breathing room late in the game. Dominic doomed the Meteors pretty quickly as well with 192, leaving them at a loss with 1179 for a seventh straight road loss. Hughbert took just 37 for the Defenders in a fast finish, capping their offense at 1649 overall. Southridge jumps to 25-37, while Viewpoint Sound is just half a game ahead at 25-36.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes put their league lead on the line in the third of a four-game home stand, while the Eagles return from a bye to play the sixth of nine straight road games. Goldy attacked with pace for Everton, but a misplaced swing ended her turn abruptly at 209. Starlight dropped off her recent pace for Pacific, but still put them ahead with 348 in a decent outing. Puff III put the Eagles in front, covering the deficit with an even 400 to keep the game interesting. Ms. Kitty added a little bit more to the Volcanoes lead, scooping up 488 on her turn to give the hosts a boost. Kirstin didn't cover the deficit by much with her 300 for Everton, going at a weak pace in the acceptable turn. Leonette exploded with a pacey 636 for Pacific, but the Everton players thought she should have been forced to replay with a ball officially judged to only have came close to the boundary. Blizzard put in a great challenge with 778 for the Eagles, forcing a response as her team ends with 1687. Chicky Phil did enough with his 368 for the Volcanoes to secure their win at 1840. Pacific continues to lead the league with a record of 41-19, while Everton sinks to 32-28 with the loss.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills try to keep the good times rolling at home in the segment finale, while the Prestige are back on the road, trying to play spoilers. Acorn had a fairly decent start for Lighton, pulling in 328 to get them start in a tough match. Easter fired back with a pacey but ultimately too-short turn for Todavía, leaving them with a small deficit after her 276. Spirit quickly swatted 466 for the Prestige, using pace and placement to give them a stronger lead this time around. Her hotheaded sister Sierra used aggression effectively with 763 for the Stills, giving them the lead at the halfway mark. Twinkie I managed to cover the deficit with 289 for Lighton, but it's light coverage at best for the visitors. Sparkles didn't keep her swing down well enough, ending her turn at a mediocre 243 despite her good pace for Todavía. Salmo chipped in with 274 for the Prestige, forcing the hosts to respond as his team finishes at 1357. Bells didn't have to make it pretty, as 262 sufficed to give the Stills a win on a final of 1544. Todavía rises up to 35-27, while Lighton drops to 28-37 with the loss.

That's all for today's action in cricket. We should have more on the way tomorrow night.
