UPCL Cricket - Week 32 Part 2

We're off and running for the middle part of this week's schedule. First up...

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks will try to build on recent home success against their Northeastern rivals, the Spiders, who are in the thick of the playoff hunt. Shadow seemed a bit shaky at times for Web City, but he ended up with a solid 410 to lead things off in this game. Fluffina showed significantly more confidence on her turn, doubling up the opposition with 842 for Maplewood. Ted answered with 297 for the Spiders, unable to cover the deficit facing his team. Diddley replied with another great effort for the Lumberjacks, adding 731 to extend their lead. Shiny got cut down by a deflection for Web City, ending her turn on a decent 302, which didn't help against the large deficit. Bryant continued the surge of scoring for Maplewood with 471, giving their lead another extension. Dani simply didn't have her offense for the Spiders, closing with 36 to give them 1045 total in a brutal and devastating loss. Waluigi tapped 96 at the end for a quick finish, leaving the Lumberjacks with 2140 in the win. Maplewood's upset gets them to 19-42, while Web City is down to 30-31, an unexpected loss for them in the midst of the playoff fight.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns look to keep a stretch of upsets going, but they face a Shores team intent on wrapping up a three-game road trip on a positive note. Bear made a quick impact for Whitewater, slashing 682 with a high pace to set the tone for the game favorably for the visitors. Nightfur put in a respectable challenge for Royal with 451, keeping them somewhat close early on. Twinkie III did even better for the Shores, carving out 832 to pad their lead significantly with the effort. Jake countered with 398 for the Crowns, losing ground at the midway mark of the game. Marsell had a bit of an early exit with 385 for Whitewater, but his strong placement helped boost the score against his former team. Kayla couldn't get a grip for Royal, slipping with 225 as the deficit grows again late in the game. Shaggy couldn't get much going for the Shores, ending with a modest 305 to give them 2204 total. Hannah sank down with 190 for the Crowns, leaving them in a loss with 1264. Whitewater avoided the upset quite easily, rising to 35-22, while Royal slips down to 22-40 with the loss.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems are back at home, taking on a Prestige team that would be officially eliminated with a loss as they take to the road again. Lighton got off to an acceptable start with 345 from Acorn, enough to get them going in the early part of the game. Smokey put Diamond ahead by a noticeable margin with his 456 on the opening turn for the hosts. Spirit shot back with 455 for the Prestige on her turn, covering the deficit on at least a temporary basis. Citrus made a mess of her turn for the Gems, grabbing only a mild 262 as the hosts fall behind halfway through the game. Twinkie I shot back with 483 for Lighton, padding their newfound lead with a strong appearance. Pedey failed to pick up the slack for Diamond on his turn, exiting with only 247 as the deficit grows a bit more. Salmo crisply added 357 for the Prestige at the end of the game, giving them 1640 overall in a strong team effort. Rosalina got beat by an unfortunate deflection, ending on 129 for the Gems to put them at 1094 in the loss. Lighton stays alive at 29-38, while Diamond collapses to 21-45 with the loss.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes put a five-game home winning streak on the line against their Coastal rivals, the Stills, who have lost five straight on the road going into this division title fight. Easter showed composure amid chaos for Todavía, but it crushed her pace and she ended with 239 after a bad swing. Starlight couldn't match it despite a much cleaner pitch, taking only 208 for Pacific. Sierra got badly distracted for the Stills, crashing out at a pathetic 45, and she earned a lecture from her coach for the performance. Ms. Kitty continued to be a steady source of offense for the Volcanoes, lashing 735 to put them ahead this time. Sparkles tried to make a counterattack with 393 for Todavía, but they remain behind. Leonette had some early struggles with pace for Pacific, but she held on to take 405, keeping their lead steady. Bells had only 192 for the Stills, a ball skipping over her bat to take the wicket as they finish with a paltry 869 total. Chicky Phil knocked 510 for the Volcanoes, icing their win at 1858. Pacific extends their lead at 44-19, while Todavía is 36-29, ending Coastal Division play at 7-3.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters wrap up a pair of games at home just as the Tridents begin a pair of road games. Precious put in a pretty good opening challenge for Pronger, spiking 513 on a well-played turn to give the visitors a nice lead. Sydney kept things incredibly close for Harrison, replying with 512 as the hosts trail by a single point after the first turns. Zach gave the Tridents a smaller lead the second time around, adding 410 to their offense to produce the lead. Twinkie II came in a bit weaker than expected with a mediocre 244 for the Specters creating a deficit. Spot chopped back with 777 for Pronger, the big performance extending their lead quite a bit. Lexi had a pretty good turn going, with pace and placement both working, but distractions stalled her until she ended at 411 for Harrison. Spot had an unremarkable 336 for the Tridents, his good pace helping his team finish with 2036 overall. Sugar charged forward with 512 for the Specters, making it interesting but ultimately losing with 1679 total. Pronger jumps to 33-28, while Harrison is down to 24-38 with the loss.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Neither team has much hope left, so the Meteors host the Lumberjacks to get closer to the end of the season. Fluffina did pretty well in leading off for Maplewood with 528, giving them a solid starting point to build upon. Mams had a sloppy swing that brought her turn to a rapid close at 162, leaving Viewpoint Sound to start from behind in this game. Diddley provided another 407 for the Lumberjacks, a solid performance to add to their lead. Hoot had the makings of a good turn until he lifted a ball too high and ended on just 169 for the Meteors. Bryant tacked on another 424 for Maplewood with a strong effort, extending their lead once again. Nibbles doubled his team's offense, but 336 didn't impact the deficit much as Viewpoint Sound lost more ground. Waluigi ran a good turn of support with 448 for the Lumberjacks, helping to lock down their offense at 1807 total in the likely win. Dominic tried to build a rally for the Meteors, but he ended at 408, and the hosts were far short of the target as they lost with 1075. Maplewood's big win gets them to 20-42, while Viewpoint Sound slumps to 26-38 with the loss.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: These Eastern Hills rivals meet, with the Wolves back home for a pair of games and the Tridents trying to go perfect in the division in the second of a pair of road games. Precious didn't have as great of a turn as she would have liked, taking 322 for Pronger to open the game. Juno absolutely butchered her turn for Stonebridge, taking a measly 49 as they are behind from the start. Zach made the small contingent of traveling Tridents fans happy, slapping 713 to pad their lead significantly. Frosty countered with 480 for the Wolves, trying to keep them in the game at the midway mark. Spot didn't even want to let the game get close, pummeling 888 more for Pronger to boost their lead quite a bit. Cobalt stumbled to 136 on the counterattack for Stonebridge, unable to come anywhere close to denting the deficit. Potter capped the Tridents' scoring with 320, putting their final score at 2243. Prism fell short with 339 for the Wolves, leaving their final score at 1004 in the loss. Pronger caps a perfect Eastern Hills Division campaign at 10-0, going to 34-28 overall, while Stonebridge sinks to 26-38 overall and 5-5 in the division.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes return home for a quick stop, while the Eagles finally wrap up a nine-game road trip that has taken them out of playoff position. Goldy had a great pace going for Everton until she sent a ball out of play to end with just 224 on the opening turn. Smudge shot back with a bit more accuracy on her swings, lining 512 to give Infinity the initial lead. Puff III covered the deficit lightly for the Eagles, with her 372 putting them temporarily ahead. Solaris hammered 954 for the Torpedoes in response, padding their lead significantly with the massive performance. Kirstin got herself out of position for Everton, and her backhand move was too slow, so she bailed at 345. Whiskers tapped only 256 for Infinity, giving a little more meat to the lead as the final players come to bat. Blizzard couldn't get enough of a rally going for the Eagles, her 368 just padding a losing total of 1309. Mr. Snowman tacked on another 557 at the end for the Torpedoes, bringing their winning mark to 2279. Infinity is up to 36-29, while Everton falls to 32-31, a six-game losing streak taking them a game out of the last playoff spot.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers can clinch a playoff spot with a win in their third of a four-game home stand, facing a Spurs team making a one-off trip. Spice made a decent start for Victoria on her turn with 472, pacing their attack pretty well. Misty couldn't muster much of a response for Westside, giving them only 139 at the start of the game as they will play from behind. Yekaterina popped up with 663 for the Spurs, extending their lead significantly with her performance. Goatee scooped up just 208 for the Rockers in response, allowing the deficit to grow at the midway mark. B. Chapman got stalled at 169 for Victoria, weakening their lead with the poor appearance from the veteran. Midnight made progress against the deficit with 367 for Westside, but they remain far back with a player each to go. Wario added only 204 for the Spurs at the end, bringing their final score to 1508. Slinks put in a challenge with 703, but the lack of support caught up the Rockers as they finished with 1417 in a narrow loss. Victoria escapes with a win to go to 28-32, while Westside slips down to 41-21 with the loss.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs make a one-off stop at home to end their doubleheader, facing a Tradewinds team in its second of a five-game road trip. Commerce got off to a reasonably good start with Tigerette, who contributed 424 to start their offense in acceptable form. Spice is settling into a bit of a home slump for Victoria, only able to grab 24 points this time in a slow start. Ice Cream countered with 386 for the Tradewinds, adding a solid effort to their lead on the second attack. Yekaterina stood tall for the Spurs, covering the deficit by herself with 832 in an excellent turn. Lionel didn't let the hosts off easily, responding with a well-hit 768 to restore a large lead for Commerce. A tough bounce caught Victoria's B. Chapman off-guard, and she meekly flicked it backwards to end her turn at 195 as the deficit returns to oppress the hosts. Lorde tapped a mild 328 for the Tradewinds at the end, putting their final at 1906. Wario also got forced onto his backhand, and he quickly buckled at 46 for the Spurs, leaving them in a loss at 1097. Commerce's surprise win gets them to 30-34, passing the now 28-33 Victoria side they left behind.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds are back at home, but they face a Volcanoes team that's on a four-game winning streak in road matches. Starlight blasted 1150 for Pacific to set the tone immediately in this game, favoring the visitors quite a bit. Princess got a little under half of it back with 508 for Tysini, the captain trying to keep her team competitive. Ms. Kitty offered excellent support for the Volcanoes, extending their lead greatly with 823 on her turn. Leandra couldn't keep up for the Hummingbirds, striking 363 in a respectable effort despite the growth of the deficit. Leonette eased up a bit for Pacific on her turn, grabbing 248 to keep things fairly steady. Charli tried to corral a deflected ball that forced her onto her backhand, but she couldn't settle it, and her turn was done at 69 for Tysini. Chicky Phil hauled in an extra 335 for the Volcanoes at the end, setting their final score at 2556 in a strong road performance overall. Brownie stuttered her way to 152 for the Hummingbirds, the poor effort unable to impact the result as the hosts lose with 1092. Pacific gets another win, rising to 45-19, while Tysini slumps to 24-36 with the loss.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders return home for a pair of games, desperate for wins as they face a Tradewinds team in the third of a five-game road trip to end this segment. Tigerette saw deflections slow her pace for Commerce, but she held strong to take a big 584 on the opening turn. Shadow met the challenge successfully for Web City, raking in 639 to give the hosts a small lead. Ice Cream created a much small lead for the Tradewinds by hitting 260 for the second attack, a modest effort. Ted slumped from his recent standard for the Spiders, but he added a bit to the lead with 339 at the halfway mark. Lionel fired back with 487 for Commerce on his turn, regaining at least a temporary lead with the good performance. Shiny couldn't pick out the corner on her swing, just trailing out of bounds to end at a pitiful 16 for a now-trailing Web City side. Lorde drilled a huge 685 for the Tradewinds, strengthening their lead at the end as they close with 2016. Dani had 199 for the Spiders, the difficult turn leaving them at a loss with 1193. Commerce's surge takes them to 31-34, while Web City splinters to 30-32 as the bubble seems ready to burst.

That's all for this segment. We'll be continuing right now and later today with the final segment of the week, which can be caught live on Twitter @UnitedPCL.
