UPCL Cricket - Week 33 Part 1

We're back on a marathon Wednesday to play a lot of cricket at the start of Week 33. The current plan would be to wrap up the regular season by the end of next week, and then spend a good portion of September working on administrative details and the playoffs before officially wrapping up this year of activity. This week will begin with...

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades look to make an impact at home, while the Surfers are coming off of two straight bye weeks, looking to shake off the rust. Watermelon stepped up pretty well with 504 for Pearl, giving them a solid foundation for this game. Snowball didn't show as much control of her swing for Swordpoint, taking an early exit at 216 in a rough appearance. Neopolitan provided a good second attack with 520 for the Surfers, extending their lead nicely. Dreamy couldn't settle an early offering for the Blades, sending it high to end on just 81 as the deficit grows. Boots continued the growth for the Pearl offense, slicing her way to 560 to pad the lead again. Bandit had a stronger performance than his Swordpoint teammates, but his 392 didn't shrink the deficit in a meaningful way. Wings stumbled for the Surfers at the end, adding a meager 55 to put their final score at 1639. Stealth tried to mount a rally for the Blades, but ended up falling with 504 as a ball hopped over his bat, giving the team a loss at 1193. Pearl gets a boost in the playoff fight to get to 34-30, while Swordpoint sinks to 44-24 with the loss.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Both teams are coming off a bye week, and the Pirates are hoping they can complete a sweep they started with a win in the Warriors' home park earlier. Twilight couldn't find any pace for Central, falling with only 164 despite batting for awhile. Delila fired back with 610 for Atlantic at the start, giving them a sizable lead initially. Dustin tilted his bat too far upward on his last swing for the Warriors in this game, ending on just 113 as the deficit deepens. Isabella replied in great form for the Pirates, tacking on an extra 600 to extend their lead at the halfway mark. Mario destroyed for Central, erasing the deficit and then some as he crushed 1334 to put the visitors in front for now. Americus couldn't settle her swing in response for Atlantic, taking a pitiful 32 as they trail with a player each to go. Gizmo tapped another 359 for the Warriors at the end, setting their final score at 1970. Klaus failed to get enough offense going for the Pirates, his 215 leaving them at 1457 in a fourth straight home loss. Central earns the season split here, going to 39-25, while Atlantic dips to 35-30 with the loss. Central also clinched a playoff berth.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks will play their third of five straight at home with the hopes of disrupting the progress of the Pilots. Valencia had a rough opening turn for Golden in this game, taking a paltry 75 to open the scoring. Peach didn't establish the North Modernistic offense as much as she would have liked, taking a simple 294 at the start. Dusty responded in a much bigger way for the Pilots, hammering 761 to give them a nice lead. Luigi couldn't keep up for the Nighthawks, hitting a modest 314 as the hosts are now behind in this game. Strut contributed only 225 for Golden this time, buying himself only a little time with a backhand flick to extend the turn. Cheddar made a little progress against the deficit with 375 for North Modernistic, but they remain behind with a player each to go. A. Charlton added 367 for the Pilots, a small padding to their lead to create a final of 1428. Bright did earn a replay for a technical error, but only managed 321 for the Nighthawks, leaving them in a loss with 1304. Golden gets a standings boost to 43-23, while North Modernistic is 30-36, their promising start to the year all but forgotten.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers hope to make another leap forward in the playoff bubble battle, hosting a Gems team running out of schedule to get through. Smokey had a surprisingly bad performance with only 49 for Diamond to lead off in this game. Watermelon replied with a big 616 for Pearl, the co-captain doing her part to establish the hosts with a nice lead. Citrus put up a good response for the Gems with 535, but it wasn't enough to cover the deficit at this point. Neopolitan wiped out that damage rather easily for the Surfers, clubbing 919 to pad their lead some more. Pedey made an aggressive shift to his backhand after a ball sailed high, and he knocked it out of play to end with 453 for Diamond. Boots matched that damage and added a bit more with 487 for Pearl, keeping their lead steady late in the game. Rosalina managed only 192 for the Gems, leaving them at 1229 in a seventh straight road loss. Wings tacked on another 447 for the Surfers at the end, putting their winning final score at 2469. Pearl rises once again to get to 35-30, while Diamond is 21-46, falling into last place with the loss.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts return home, looking to keep their winning streak going, while the Sharpshooters are wrapping up a three-game road trip. Chris began with a solid performance for Capital City, batting 416 to begin the scoring in good form. Patches provided a better answer for Boston, carving out 501 to put the hosts ahead after the initial turns. Missy had a ball jam her on a swing, as it landed on the knob of her bat and she lifted it out of play to end at 329 for the Sharpshooters. Puff II had an unusually poor turn for the Swifts, ending with only 120 as the hosts fall behind at the midway point. Sprinkles gave Capital City a big lift, keeping her turn alive with a brilliant backhand flick before rallying to 527 to end her turn. Gradley brought Boston back into the game, covering the deficit by slashing 743 to gain the lead back with a player each to go. Nicole made a great counterattack with 722 for the Sharpshooters, putting their final score 1994. Sweetheart couldn't produce enough to save the Swifts again, her 150 leaving them at a loss with 1514. Capital City got a big win to go to 32-35, while Boston is down to 45-21 with the loss.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns are wrapping up a three-game home stand in a meeting with another lowly team, the Specters. Harrison's Sydney had a decent start to the game, but her pace cratered as she got distracted, and she ended up at 313 at the end of her turn. Nightfur countered quite well for Royal, hauling in 544 to put them in the lead after the first turns. Twinkie II nearly matched the hosting captain on the counterattack, picking up 535 to get the Specters in a better position. Jake couldn't do enough to support the Crowns, rejecting a score that would have tied the game to take a replay and end up at 160 instead. Lexi kept Harrison on the rise, swatting 584 to extend their lead more with the good appearance. Kayla got stalled on a deflection for Royal, ending at a measly 28 points as the deficit continues to grow. Sugar chipped in with another 328 for the Specters, closing their offense at 1760. Hannah couldn't build a larger rally for the Crowns, settling with 393 as the hosts take the loss at 1125. Harrison has had some good luck lately, rising to 25-38, while Royal is 22-41 with the loss.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Meteors begin their final home stand of the year, the first of three games against a Predators side playing their third of four straight on the road. Shawn gathered 592 for Midland in a strong appearance, starting them off in good shape. Mams didn't even get half of it back for Viewpoint Sound, exiting with a mild 230 in their first turn. Rainmane again gave great support for the Predators, ripping 688 to boost their lead in a significant way. Hoot had a good pace going as he built his response for the Meteors, but a bad swing cut him down at 180. Leonardo didn't get flashy for Midland with his 378, doing enough to keep the lead healthy and steady. Nibbles technically gained ground for Viewpoint Sound with 448, but the deficit remains quite large, and with little time to change it. Fuchsia made a mess of her turn with only 40 for the Predators, leaving them at 1698 overall. Dominic went on a bit of a run for the Meteors, but he ended at 481 to leave the team with 1339 in the loss. Midland will be in the playoffs at 39-25 now, and Viewpoint Sound drops to 26-40 with the loss.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes begin their final home stand of three games, hosting a Hummingbirds team they will try to sweep as the visitors start a pair of road games. Princess got off to a decent start with 448 for Tysini this time, pacing the visitors' attack fairly well. Starlight effortlessly chopped back with 657 for Pacific, putting the hosts noticeably ahead with the effort. Leandra faltered on her turn for the Hummingbirds, taking a poor 112 to damage their comeback. Ms. Kitty left the door wide open in a terrible outing for the Volcanoes, weakening their lead with only 28. Charli failed to take advantage of the opportunity for Tysini, closing her turn with a pitiful 66 as scoring has evacuated this game completely. Leonette proved that statement wrong almost immediately, scooping up 818 with a pacey and dangerous attack to reignite the Pacific offense. Brownie put in a solid effort with 375 for the Hummingbirds, but their 1001 is only good for a loss. Chicky Phil kept the Volcanoes strong with 608 at the end, sealing their winning total at 2111. Pacific is up to 47-19 after their seventh straight home win, while Tysini sinks down to 25-38, out of the playoffs officially.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters are back home for a game, while the Sharks put their recently-strong offense to the test at the start of their final pair of road games. Chelsea didn't have much going for her early on, but she had a persistent turn, plucking 636 for Eastside to begin with. Sydney had 479 in response for Harrison, her wild swing leading to better pace but a shorter turn. Taylor had the makings of a good turn washed away by one bad deflection, which stalled her at 54 for the Sharks. Twinkie II had no trouble in covering the deficit for the Specters with her 503, putting the hosts ahead at the midway mark. Niki couldn't put up a comeback for Eastside either, dropping out with 81 in a poor turn. Lexi gave Harrison a little more strength, but her 180 won't be changing the course of anything in the game. Paps had 292 for the Sharks, an alright performance that left them at 1063 in the low-scoring loss. Sugar didn't have to do anything for the Specters, adding a light 216 to give them 1378 in the win. Harrison's sloppy win carries them to 26-38, while Eastside joins them outside of the playoff picture with a 29-38 record so far.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The two sides wear their third jerseys in this Eastern Hills Divisional that is the last division game for each side. Jasmine churned out 672 for Freedom after a chaotic and nearly disastrous start to the game, staking out a nice lead for the visitors. Delila lacked the same persistent attack for Atlantic, grabbing 385 to halve the deficit on her turn. Stinky got too aggressive for the Cascades and ended up with a pathetic 39, hurting their lead dramatically. Isabella did a good job in response with 368 for the Pirates, putting them narrowly ahead at the halfway mark. Roxy didn't do much for Freedom on the counterattack, grabbing only 192 to restore a small lead for the visitors. Americus provided more stable offense for Atlantic on her turn, grabbing 464 to extend their lead with the final players stepping up to bat. Nikolai forced the hosts to make a small response as he hit 319 on a replay to give the Cascades 1222 total. Klaus easily topped that performance with 677 for the Pirates, sealing their winning score at 1894. Atlantic moves up to 36-30, with a 4-6 division record, while Freedom is 23-40 and 3-7 in the division.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks are back at home for a pair of games, while the Swifts begin their final pair of road games in a favorable situation. Patches made a nice impact for Boston with 815 in this attack, setting them up for success from the very start of the game. Fluffina had a decent rhythm going for Maplewood, but a high-bouncing ball cut her down at 271. Puff II belted another 1071 for the Swifts, the massive performance serving quite well to bolster the visitors' lead. Diddley never got a chance to reply, as he was forced into a backhand early and failed to keep it down, falling at 32 for the Lumberjacks. Gradley let his offense slip a bit for Boston, picking up only 224 to add to the lead. Bryant made minor progress with 400 for Maplewood, but it didn't make much of a difference against the large deficit. Sweetheart capped the game with another 503 for the Swifts, bringing their final to 2613 in a likely win. Waluigi seemed to be on the right track for the Lumberjacks, but he froze up at 153, leaving them in a brutal loss with 856. Boston rises to 46-21, while Maplewood is 20-44 after the loss.

Verizon Field, Pacific: These two Coastal rivals bring their division schedule to a close as they wrap up the segment with a critical battle for both teams. Snuggle put in an acceptable effort for Oceanside at the start of the game, picking up a decent 378 to begin the scoring. Starlight wasn't comfortable from the start of the game, taking a paltry 111 for Pacific to give them an early deficit. Caitlin modestly took 304 for the Waves, padding their lead a little bit with the second attack. Ms. Kitty blasted 1154 for the Volcanoes, pulling them ahead at the halfway mark with the explosive performance. Celestia nearly caught up for Oceanside with 576, but she couldn't quite meet the deficit. Leonette tried to provide more cushion for Pacific, but a dead ball on the field hampered her swing and helped contribute to her demise at 113 points. Dewey put in a nice challenge with 439 for the Waves at the end, giving them 1697 overall, forcing the hosts into a response. Chicky Phil couldn't corral magic this time, a backhand cutting him down at 256 to give the Volcanoes 1634 total. Oceanside gets a lifeline at 33-33, ending the division at 5-5 in a tie for 17th, while Pacific is 47-20 and 8-2 in the Coastal.

That's all for this segment. There may be more games tonight, or there may not should my schedule get too crowded.
