UPCL Cricket - Week 35 Part 2

We're ready to begin another segment of games today, the second to last segment of the regular season. Leading things off...

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarch are back home for a game, while the Lumberjacks head out for a three-game road trip to bring their season to an end. Fluffina provided a strong opening turn for Maplewood, building her pace throughout to tally 688 on the first turn of the game. Panda's rhythmic swing was interrupted by a deflection, and his poor hit resulted in him scoring a middling 273 for Southern. Diddley popped up with 537 more for the Lumberjacks to pad their lead nicely on the second attack. Hoppy fired back with 679 for the Monarchs to make some progress against the deficit. After two false starts, Bryant solidified the Maplewood lead with a huge 829 on his turn. Pounce only had a simple 144 for Southern, allowing the game to likely slip out of reach for the hosts this time. Waluigi tried to keep his turn alive on a backhand, but ended with 174, leaving the Lumberjacks at 2228. Shannon couldn't save the Monarchs with her 288, so they took the loss at 1384. Maplewood is up to 21-47, while Southern slides down a bit to 30-38.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Blades finally play their final game of the regular season, hosting a lowly Cascades team in their third of a four-game road trip. Jasmine seemed unprepared for the game to start, and it showed when she hit a pathetic 9 points for Freedom. Snowball didn't get much on her turn either, but she set Swordpoint ahead with 312. Stinky covered the deficit lightly for the Cascades, grabbing 336 to keep them in the fight. Dreamy replied with 544 for the Blades, giving their lead a bit of a boost at the midway mark of the game. Roxy didn't come anywhere near covering the deficit this time for Freedom, bowing out with a weak 190. Bandit replied with 423 for Swordpoint, playing his turn between those of his parents. Nikolai took 337 for the Cascades on his turn, the acceptable effort leaving the visitors with a loss at 877 overall. Stealth capped the effort with 873 for the Blades, his strong finishing turn bringing their final to 2152. Swordpoint ends the year at 45-25, with a 26-9 home record, while Freedom takes a knock down to 23-45.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes play their second of a three-game home stand, while the Monarchs' game here acts as their road finale. After a false start slowed him down initially, Panda did well for Southern on his second try, tallying 466 to lead off the scoring. Smudge left her appearance furious with the bowling quality as she closed with a measly 36 for Infinity. Hoppy took full advantage of the opportunity for the Monarchs, crashing her way to 796 to pad their lead efficiently. Solaris couldn't pull the Torpedoes back into the game, actually losing a lot of ground with a mediocre 249. Pounce was forced onto his backhand late in his turn for Southern, and he failed to keep the ball down, ending with 340 to keep the lead stable. Whiskers still lost ground for Infinity on her turn, contributing 312 to their weak offense. Shannon slapped another 580 at the end for the Monarchs, closing her road career in a likely win with their final at 2182. Mr. Snowman managed 192 for the Torpedoes, leaving them at a loss with 789. Southern is up to 31-38, and a road total record of 16-19, while Infinity drops to 37-31 with the tough loss.

BMW RockDome, Westside: The Rockers end a four-game home stand in this appearance, while the Lumberjacks are in the second of a three-game road trip hoping to act as spoilers. Fluffina managed just 237 for Maplewood in leading off this game much weaker than the segment opener. Misty made good use of her opening turn for Westside, clobbering 721 and choosing to reject an optional replay at the end. A deflection brought a rather sudden end for Diddley's turn, as he added just 36 for the Lumberjacks. Goatee showed no mercy for the Rockers, extending their lead greatly with her 561. Bryant made Maplewood look a bit more respectable with 457, but they remain at a significant deficit. Midnight countered well to keep the Westside lead mostly steady, tacking on 405 on her turn. Waluigi picked up a decent 328 for the Lumberjacks, but they'll take the loss with 1058. Slinks kept it rather simple with 248 for the Rockers at the end, bringing their winning total to 1935. Westside is up to 44-24, with a 22-13 home record, while Maplewood slides again to 21-48 with this loss.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs bring their tough season to an end with a chance to shape the playoffs as they host the Rockers, who end a doubleheader on the road. Misty had good control early on, but that disappeared in the later stages of the game, as she spiked 272 for Westside with an early exit. Panda countered with 383 for Southern on his turn, giving them a modest lead at the start of the game. Goatee could have done better for the Rockers, lacking pace and placement as she ended with 150. Hoppy challenged the visitors with 453 for the Monarchs, padding their lead halfway through the game. Midnight did enough to cover the deficit with her 554, nearly ending much earlier due to a chaotic start to her appearance. Pounce didn't have a bad turn for Southern, slightly breaking his slump with 294 to restore a small lead as the final players step up to bat. Slinks forced the hosts to make a response as she hit 503 to set the Rockers at 1479 overall. Shannon's final appearance for the Monarchs staked out a comeback win with 359 to give them 1489 total. Southern ends the season at 32-38, with a home record of 16-19, and Westside is down to 44-25 now.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves end a three-game home stand in desperate need of a win to stay in the fight on the bubble, while the Warriors start their final pair of road games. Twilight had a decent start with 305 for Central, but it could have been more given her solid pace. Snuggle crashed out with a deflected swing for Oceanside, taking a poor 48 that gives them an early deficit. Dustin made a much stronger attack for the Warriors, smacking 769 to strengthen their lead. Caitlin countered with 486 for the Waves on her turn, a decent attempt at mitigating the damage. Mario may have left the door open for the hosts, as he could only take 208 for Central on his turn. Celestia made a decent push forward for Oceanside on her turn, rallying with 529 to cut into the deficit. Gizmo provided another big turn with 778 for the Warriors, protecting their now-final score of 2060. Dewey made an honest attempt at a rally for the Waves, but his 367 left them at 1430 in the loss. Central gets a critical win to go to 40-29, while Oceanside is at 35-34, and finishes 17-18 at home.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks end their trying season at home, with this finale also acting as the Cascades' road finale for the year. Jasmine sprayed 386 for Freedom on the opening turn, unable to really get a good pace going with her inconsistent swings. Peach could have had a slightly cleaner performance for North Modernistic, but her 439 put them narrowly ahead early on. Stinky fell early in his turn for the Cascades, covering the deficit with a light 224, which created vulnerability. Luigi added only 171 for the Nighthawks, tying the game exactly at the midway mark. Roxy tried to keep a good turn going for Freedom, but after an early surge, a bad swing cut her down at 113. Cheddar played well in response for North Modernistic, striking 468 to put the hosts ahead with a player each to go. Nikolai fought back with 463 for the Cascades, forcing the hosts to reply as they close with 1186. Bright locked in with 158 to get the Nighthawks an ugly win at 1236. North Modernistic finishes 13-22 at home and 32-38 overall, while Freedom is down to 23-46 on the year and 12-23 on the road.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs are set to end their season at home, taking on a Specters team making its last road appearance as it plays out the string. Harrison got off to a surprisingly strong start through 535 from Sydney, as the sophomore put up some nice numbers for the visitors. Spice answered almost as well for Victoria, swinging her way to 520 to keep things close early on. Twinkie II countered with another 598 for the Specters, more than doubling their offense with that effort. Yekaterina didn't seem worried for the Spurs, keeping them in range with her 527 at the midway point. Lexi kept things fairly strong for Harrison, progressing their offense with 657 to maintain the lead. B. Chapman dropped off the pace of the game for Victoria, only able to collect 311 as the hosts fall more noticeably behind. Sugar also faltered with 256 for the Specters, leaving them at 2046 overall. Wario couldn't challenge for a comeback with 245 for the Spurs, and they took the loss with 1603 total. Harrison rises to 29-40 on the year, with a 15-20 road mark, while Victoria ends at 32-38, and a home record of 16-19.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores are hoping their rematch with the Wolves goes a bit better for them after a loss earlier in the week. Juno won't make it easy on the hosts this time either, cranking out 560 to get Stonebridge on the board in a big way early in the game. Bear, desperate to make a response, had a poor outing with 128 for Whitewater to put them behind at first. Frosty showed great composure amid myriad distractions, still drilling 603 for the Wolves at a decent pace. Twinkie III made progress against the deficit, lining 927 for the Shores to make things interesting. Cobalt weakened the Stonebridge lead with his 368, allowing a potential rally against them. Marsell pressured the visitors even more with his 457, surviving odd bounces and a slow pace to haul Whitewater closer. Prism had only 223 for the Wolves at the end, leaving them vulnerable at a final of 1754. Shaggy completed the comeback with 520 for the Shores, sealing their win at 2032. Whitewater's season split here gets them up to 41-27, while Stonebridge is at 28-41 for the year.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes end a three-game home stand with the last divisional game, taking on Southwestern rivals in the Hummingbirds, who play their season finale. Princess immediately set the tone by crushing 1120 for Tysini at the start of the game, a grand performance. Smudge did draw an optional replay for a technical error, but she had a meager 73 on the second try for Infinity. Leandra provided a decent supporting run of 371 for the Hummingbirds, adding modestly to the lead. Solaris erased the rest of the first bit of damage, smashing 1108 for the Torpedoes to bring them back into the fight. Charli struck back with force for Tysini, lashing out with 663 to extend their lead again. Whiskers left Infinity far behind with only 169 on her turn, likely cementing the result already. Brownie posted another 292 for the Hummingbirds to ice their score at 2446. Mr. Snowman had only 375 for the Torpedoes at the end, leaving them in a loss with 1725, a rough end at home. Tysini rises to 32-38, 6-4 in the division, and 15-20 on the road, while Infinity is 37-32 overall, 7-3 in the division, and 18-17 at home for the year.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills finally wrap up their season with this game, while the Crowns begin a season-ending road doubleheader to close out the segment. Nightfur let the pitch get a bit too cluttered for Royal, and then ended at 188 with a deflected swing for a poor start. Easter provided a modest lead for Todavía at the start with her 353, but she wanted to score better than that. Jake attacked with more pace for the Crowns on his turn, pulling them ahead with his 687 in a strong outing. Sierra couldn't cover the deficit for the Stills, her quick approach ending too early at 344 to create a midgame deficit. Kayla slipped up badly for Royal with only 104, leaving them highly vulnerable this time. Sparkles did her part quite well for Todavía, pushing forward with 489 to cover the deficit with a player each to go. Hannah countered with a big 602 for the Crowns at the end, forcing the hosts to respond to a final of 1581 for the visitors. Bells pulled in 439 for the Stills, closing out their win at 1625 with the clutch performance. Todavía ends the year at 40-30, with a 22-13 home record, while Royal is down to 26-43.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters will close out their season at home, facing a Crowns team doing the same on the road as their doubleheader comes to an end. Nightfur slugged 1085 for Royal at the start of this game, giving them a strong first attack and lead. Sydney had virtually no response for Harrison, managing a paltry 63 to give the hosts a massive early deficit. Jake went with a mild 227 for the Crowns on his turn, giving them a still-significant lead. Twinkie II made up a bit of ground with 474 for the Specters on her turn, but they've got a long way to go in the second half of the game. Kayla ripped a strong 728 for Royal in response, restoring the strength to the visitors' lead. Lexi essentially confirmed a Harrison loss when she hit a disastrous 13 to ruin any hope of a comeback. Hannah provided a strong finish with 657 for the Crowns on this one, giving them a final of 2697 overall. Sugar brought the game to an end with 316 for the Specters, leaving them at 866 total in the loss. Royal is up to 27-43 on the year, including a 17-18 road mark, while Harrison is 29-41 overall and 14-21 at home.

That's all for today. Tomorrow, we end the regular season.
