Hutton Cup Playoffs: Round 1, Game 4

Teams may be eliminated today, as we've reached the first chances to advance for teams going for a sweep. We begin with one such scenario in...

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames are on the brink of elimination against a Rockers team that has shown some offensive strength in the last two games. Misty wasn't sure where her foul came from, but her turn ended at 323 for Westside despite the confusion. Crystal butchered her turn for Queens in response with 112, putting them behind initially with the poor outing. Goatee couldn't make it better for the Rockers, taking a measly 66 in a slow start to the game on both sides. Paige gave the Flames a lead in what may be her final home game, taking 368 to put them ahead at the halfway mark. Midnight provided a hefty 461 in attack for Westside, covering the deficit rather easily. Violetta broke her playoffs-long slump with 608 for Queens this time, restoring a lead for the hosts as the final players step up to bat. Slinks crashed out at 90 for the Rockers amid distractions, leaving the team in a loss with 940 overall. Max tapped only 139 for the Flames at the end of the game, enough to ice their win at 1227. Queens lives to fight another day, but will have to travel down 3-1 to Westside in the series.

Henry Ford Memorial Stadium, Pronger: The Tridents hope to build off of yesterday's win as they meet the Predators again. Shawn failed to corral much for Midland on the opening turn, ending at 295 with a mild distraction to account for his sub-par performance. Precious answered with a much stronger 623 for Pronger on their opening turn, pacing the hosts to a lead. Rainmane covered the deficit with 632 for the Predators, keeping things quite competitive. Zach answered with only 105 for the Tridents on his turn, suddenly giving them a deficit at the midway point. Leonardo made a large contribution to the Midland offense as well, padding their lead greatly with his 679. Spot made a dent in the deficit with 816 for Pronger, making things close again with a player each to go. Fuchsia went with 311 for the Predators, leaving them a bit vulnerable with a final of 1917. Potter did enough to take the win for the Tridents, grabbing 407 on his turn for their final score of 1951. The series is tied at 2, with the Tridents knowing they'll come home one more time.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates are fighting for their lives at home against a thus-far relentless Blades offense hungry to advance on a sweep. Snowball had her best start of the series so far with 615 for Swordpoint, giving them a very stable foundation for this game. Delila struggled to 105 for Atlantic on her turn, barely shaving anything off of the deficit with the weak outing. Dreamy drilled another big performance for the Blades with 802, extending their lead quite a bit. Isabella battled back with force for the Pirates, crushing 1001 on her turn to cut into the deficit a bit more. Bandit refused to leave Swordpoint vulnerable, smashing 1255 on his turn to nearly double his team's offense. Americus went cold at the wrong moment for Atlantic, an early double-hit resulting in her taking just 6 points and almost assuredly ending their season. Stealth tacked on 346 at the end for the Blades, giving them 3018 in a likely win. Klaus had 384 at the end for the Pirates, but they still lost with 1496. Swordpoint takes the series in a 4-0 sweep, the first team advance to the quarterfinals.

Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills got a win at home yesterday and want to do that again when they face the Warriors for the fourth time in the playoffs. Twilight didn't waste time in attack for Central, lining 746 right away to establish the visitors with a significant lead. Easter made a good effort to keep things close for Todavía, replying with a fiery 564. Dustin had a small stumble with 273 for the Warriors on his turn, potentially weakening their lead. Sierra failed to take advantage of the mistake for the Stills, her 272 keeping things steady at the halfway mark instead. Mario weakened Central further with a frustrating 209, leaving the visitors vulnerable despite their lead. Sparkles made mild progress with 289 for Todavía, approximately halving the deficit as the final players are set to take their turns. Gizmo restored the Warriors' offense to previous levels with his 513, leaving them at 1741. Bells made a late push with 535 for the Stills, but it wouldn't be enough, and they lost with 1660. Central got away with a less-than perfect performance to go ahead 3-1 in the series as they prepare to return home.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers narrowly lost in a high-scoring battle yesterday, so they'll look to be just a bit better against the Pilots in today's game. Valencia didn't get a great start to the game with 291 for Golden, leaving them a bit exposed early on. Watermelon lost control of her pace and quickly exited the game with a poor performance of 162 giving Pearl a slight deficit. Dusty also had a middling performance with 232 for the Pilots, leaving them game up to whichever team can get a big showing first. Neopolitan didn't exactly meet the standard for a big game, but her 437 put the Pilots ahead narrowly. Strut countered with 400 for Golden on his turn, covering the deficit the other way to challenge the hosts. Boots stayed calm early in her turn, and gained a bit more of the lead with 454 for Pearl, setting up an interesting finish. A. Charlton didn't have much of a performance with 319 for the Pilots, leaving them at 1242 total, which forces the hosts to reply. Wings met the challenge with 288 for the Surfers, giving them 1341 in the win. Pearl tied the series at 2 with this win, an uncharacteristically low-scoring affair.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles home to counter the Swifts' road strength in this pivotal meeting for an intriguing series. Patches had her worst game of the playoffs, but that doesn't take away her score of 544 to get Boston going in strong form once again. Goldy couldn't keep her swing under control for Everton, resulting in her score of 175 for a poor start. Puff II provided an excellent second attack for the Swifts, slashing 727 to pad their lead quite nicely. Puff III had her first average game of the playoffs with 341, not helping the steep deficit facing her Eagles at the midway point. Gradley chipped only 288 for Boston on his turn, hoping the mild effort would be enough to keep their lead intact. Kirstin made a deep cut into the deficit with 726 on her turn for Everton, making the final players' turns more critical to the outcome. Sweetheart had a disappointing 120 for the Swifts at the end, leaving their final score at 1679. Blizzard saved the day for the Eagles with 639 to put them ahead with 1881 for the win. Everton's comeback victory gives Boston plenty to think about on the trip back home with the series tied at 2.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights try to stave off elimination against their fierce Urban rivals, the Shores, who want a sweep. Bear might have just put away the series right at the start of game 4, slugging 1644 for Whitewater to give them a massive lead. Kiwi gained a healthy portion of that back with 582 for Terrace City, but they face a steep climb to get back in this game. Twinkie III rose the ebbs and flows of her pace to a successful outing with 674 for the Shores, padding the lead in the process. Jennifer couldn't fight back enough for the Knights, taking 416 as the game slips farther out of reach for the hosts. Marsell put another exclamation mark on the offense for Whitewater, belting 1094 on his turn to pad their lead quite a bit more. Oreo kept Terrace City's offense consistent, but her 568 didn't really help in the grand scheme of things. Shaggy chipped 281 for the shores at the end of the game, giving them a final of 3693. Stripes couldn't even match that, taking 279 in her last appearance for the Knights, who lost with 1845 to be eliminated. The Shores will take this 4-0 sweep, and the rest that comes with it, to prepare for their quarterfinals series.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes have a chance to really get a grip on the lead, but the Volcanoes want to head home on even terms. Starlight offered an early challenge to the hosts, hammering 1052 for Pacific on the lead-off turn to give the visitors a nice lead. Smudge couldn't come close to meeting that challenge with 162 for Infinity in a poor start for the hosts. Ms. Kitty had trouble getting her swing off the ground, ending at only 253 for the Volcanoes. Solaris took one swing too aggressively for the Torpedoes, leading to an early exit at a paltry 69 points. Leonette provided a big boost for Pacific on her good turn, adding 702 to their already-strong lead. Whiskers accidentally tipped a ball up and out of play, ending on 82 points as it appears to be a lost opportunity for Infinity. Chicky Phil tallied another 545 for the Volcanoes at the end, sealing their offense at a big 2552 in what should be a win. Mr. Snowman had a pitiful 108 at the end for the Torpedoes, ending their scoring at just 421. Pacific has retied the series at 2 emphatically as they head home.

There will be only 6 games tomorrow, regardless of the results, as the current round begins to wrap up.
