Tournament 2018 - Round 1 Day 49

A new week of Tournament play is here, beginning with...

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Pauline v. Dustin. A rookie faces a superstar in Accuracy with the silver cue for the first series. Central's Dustin had a strong game 1 appearance, briefly falling into a tie with Capital City's Pauline in the middle. Pauline then had another miss, and her late pressure didn't work as Dustin won 1-2 for the 1-0 series lead. The Warriors' Dustin played well in game 2, although the Sharpshooters' Pauline did better at keeping up early on. Pauline faltered later, missing late to secure Dustin's win at 1-3 as he clinched the series at 2-0. Dustin slipped a bit from the pace he established early in the series, but a late miss a turn after a double-pot from Pauline helped the visitor secure the 3-0 series sweep on a 2-3 win. Dustin will visit club-mate and Web City Spiders returnee Jack in the second round. Dustin advances five bids while Pauline takes three into the next round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Acorn v. Dreamy. Southwestern rivals and club-mates meet in 15-ball, also using the silver cue. Lighton's Acorn seemed to have a bit of a possession edge in game 1, outplaying Swordpoint's Dreamy by a thin margin. Dreamy had an untimely error, missing contact with the 13, which set up Acorn's 14-15 combination to the top right that gave him the win two turns later for a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Acorn played just as well in game 2, starting on a three-ball run and adding a late six-ball run before a scratch. Then, the Blades' Dreamy struck with a pair of shots late for the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 had a much more chippy vibe, as neither player could outright take control. Acorn worked on a late run, but his successful cut on the 15 caused him to scratch, gifting the win and 2-1 series win to Dreamy all at once. Dreamy will visit her brother, the Web City Spiders captain Shadow, in the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Hughbert v. Stephanie Livilotti. A pair of sophomores and teammates meet in 8-ball with the red cue. Stephanie had pressure early and late in game 1, keeping Hughbert at bay initially. Stephanie's mid-game struggles gave way to her winning on a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 went very quickly, as Stephanie had an empty break and Hughbert took two balls on his first turn. Stephanie then made a four-ball run, but Hughbert stormed to the win with a six-ball run-out, tying the series at 1 with the nice burst at the end. Hughbert had a productive start in game 3, but his hesitation to bring it to an end allowed Stephanie to put a scare in him with a five-ball run. Hughbert then tapped in the 8 to the top right, winning the series 2-1 to set himself up to host the TodavĂa Stills rookie Anton in the second round, one of his four bids to advance, while Stephanie has just one bid remaining.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Kirstin v. Strawberry. The red cue remains in action for its turn in 15-ball. Everton's Kirstin had a lot of luck early in game 1, but it ran out with a miss on the 6-14 combination to the top right. Victoria's Strawberry picked up the 6-15 combination to the top right on the next turn for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Strawberry started out game 2 bullying the Eagles' Kirstin around the table. As the game progressed, possession evened out, and Kirstin managed to get the win with the last pair of balls, her shot on the 15 riding the top rail to the top right for the win. The series is tied at 1. Kirstin played well early in game 3 as well, and she got Strawberry to miss on the 8 later on, setting herself up for a four-ball run-out that ended with a 14-15 combination to the top right for the win. Kirstin's 2-1 series win gives her a home series against Swordpoint Blades captain Snowball in the second round, one of her six bids to continue on.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Cowzart v. Midnight. Another battle between teammates commences in this Accuracy series with the silver cue. Game 1 saw Cowzart scratch on the break and never truly recover from that. Midnight briefly fell into a tie, but Cowzart flailed the rest of the game, and Midnight mopped up a 3-6 win that was more dominant than the score suggests for a 1-0 series lead. Cowzart did better to keep up early in game 2, but when the late part of the game arrive, Midnight had to carry the pace to the finish as Cowzart missed a bunch in a row. Midnight remained perfect here, winning 0-5 to clinch the series at 2-0. Midnight and Cowzart battled with perfect scores for a lot of game 2, but Midnight fell behind late and elected to throw her teammate a bone in the form of a 2-3 win for Cowzart. Midnight took the series 2-1, and will visit the Victoria Spurs' Strawberry in the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Frosty. The blue cue makes its first appearance today in 15-ball. Freedom's Nikolai had a bit of a rough time at first in game 1, with Stonebridge's Frosty making a lot of offense. Frosty's highlight was a four-ball run, followed by a jump by Nikolai that nearly got him in trouble. Frosty missed the 14, and Nikolai made the last pair of shots to win for a 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Nikolai again started strong in game 2, making a three-ball run early before a weak spot in the game. The Wolves' Frosty picked up her pace later in the game, but she under-hit the 14, and Nikolai potted it to top left before making the 15 for his win. Nikolai secured the series at 2-0. Frosty had very little success with converting shots in game 3, taking a hard loss to Nikolai after a short-range miss on the 15. Nikolai's dominant play helped him take the series in 3-0 sweep, and he will host Victoria Spurs captain Spice in the second round, one of his six bids to advance.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Tigerette. Longtime stalwarts of their teams meet in the red cue's last Rotation series of the round. Westside's Goatee had the better of her Urban regional rival early on in game 1, but Commerce's Tigerette stormed back to tie the game, and eventually earned an 8-6 win for the 1-0 lead in the series. The Tradewinds' Tigerette had the early lead in game 2, pulling away initially as the Rockers' Goatee struggled to find her shot. Goatee charged back, taking a brief lead on a three-ball run before Tigerette retied it, and then she missed twice on the 15. Goatee made the 15 on her second try for the 8-7 win, tying the series at 1. Goatee managed to gain a large lead early in game 3, but once again the counterattack prevailed as Tigerette took the 8-5 result with a five-ball run-out. Tigerette took the series 2-1, and will visit the Whitewater Shores star Twinkie III in the second round. Goatee has four bids going forward.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Midnight v. Ted. The venue doubleheader ends with the blue cue closing its 15-ball obligations in this round. Westside's Midnight had a rough start in game 1, and while she picked up the pace to match Web City's Ted later, her bad luck returned at the end. Ted would clean up a lot of her shots, including the 15 for his win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw quick and frequent changes of possession as errors piled up on both sides. The Spiders' Ted took a chance at a trick shot, kicking the 5-15 combination to the bottom right to defeat the Rockers' Midnight and clinch the series at 2-0. This play worked, drawing the ire of the home fans. Ted had control over most of game 3, using a lot of choppy runs, but he scratched while attempting on the 14, and Midnight made the last pair of shots from ball-in-hand for the win. Ted's 2-1 series win puts him on the road in Del Sur against the Southern Monarchs' Avril Lavigne in the second round. Midnight will advance four bids into the next round.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Sleepy B. The silver cue pops up for a 10-ball series here. Pearl's Neopolitan carried the pace early in game 1 as Archtown's Sleepy B. had a couple of scratches. Sleepy B. solved her attack issues, making four of the last five balls and picking up the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. scratched once early in game 2, allowing the Surfers' Neopolitan to build some possession, but Neopolitan had a bad shot on the 8 later in the game. This left the 8-10 combination lined up at the top right, and Sleepy B. converted for the win and 2-0 series lead. Sleepy B. tried to make something of her offense in game 3, her cleanest game yet, but a four-ball run over the middle didn't prevent her from missing late in the game. Neopolitan stepped up with three of the last four balls for a win. Sleepy B. won the series 2-1, and will return to this venue to face the Surfers' Beth in the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Stinky v. Diddley. Staying in 10-ball with the silver cue, a couple of veterans have a series. Freedom's Stinky had a five-ball run from the break and a three-ball run after that in game 1, but a scratch as he made the 9 left a free shot on the 10 that Maplewood's Diddley converted to win. Diddley leads the series 1-0. The Lumberjacks' Diddley had a slower pace in game 2, and while the Cascades' Stinky had his chances to make a run, he wasted them, most notably with a miss on the 6. Diddley won on a three-ball run-out, ending with the 8-10 combination to the top right to seal the series at 2-0. Diddley took a stronger pace in game 3 with a three-ball run early on and a four-ball run-out after deferring possession back to Stinky when he illegally potted the 6. Diddley's win here made it a 3-0 series sweep to push him into the second round, where he visits his best friend, the Golden Pilots' Strut.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Marsell. The silver cue continues its streak, playing 15-ball this time. Pacific's Twinkie I pounded a pair of balls in on the game 1 break, and held the edge in offense for most of the game. Whitewater's Marsell scared her with a five-ball run, but he missed on the 13, and Twinkie I made the last two balls for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I had a four-ball run from the break, including a beautiful 1-4-12 spinning combination to the bottom right, and she added a late three-ball run before rattling the 15 out of the top right. The Shores' Marsell had been limited to filler shots, but he made the winner at the end to tie the series at 1. Twinkie I had to use a cluster buster when shooting at the 3 in a slow-moving game 3, and it proved disastrous, as Marsell then converted the 3-15 combination she left lined up for his second win. Marsell took the series 2-1, and will visit Midland Predators veteran Leonardo in the second round. Marsell will advance six bids to the next round, while Twinkie I carries five.

Chevrolet Center, Everton: Blizzard v. Spice. The blue cue will wrap up Day 49 in Accuracy. Game 1 saw both players go perfect throughout regulation, with Everton's Blizzard making a ball on the break. This gave Victoria's Spice the overtime break, where she went empty and Blizzard converted on her turn to win 0-1 for the 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Blizzard started the same in game 2, but while she had a lead for most of the game, the Spurs' Spice dragged her into a tie by the end of regulation. Spice then made a ball on the break in overtime, and while Blizzard held on for one turn, she missed on her second, losing 5-6 to Spice, who tied the series at 1 with the win. Game 3 split the difference for efficiency, with Blizzard forcing Spice into a late miss to tie the game this time. Blizzard held the last shot, and Spice again had to break in overtime, going empty and allowing Blizzard to take the 3-4 win with one shot. Blizzard advances on a 2-1 series win, and will host Central Warriors captain Twilight in a star-studded second round Northeastern Derby. Blizzard takes just two bids to the next round, making a defense of her MVP status unlikely.

That's all for today. Tomorrow's plans are Elite cricket early and Tournament Day 50 late.

Select Cricket 2018 - Week 21

The last week before the United Cup Tournament Stage gets going with Select action. We begin with...

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Prestige begin a busy week with a doubleheader, sitting Waluigi against their Southwestern rivals, the Spurs, who have the rookie Sage on the bench for this one. Acorn got off to a pacey start with 618 for Lighton, giving them a nice chunk of offense immediately. Spice blasted 983 for Victoria to give them the initial lead in a high-scoring start to the game. Spirit constructed a cautious 344 for the Prestige, not enough to cover the deficit. Yekaterina went with a relentless second attack of 876 for the Spurs, padding their lead significantly. Katelynn went off with 745 for Lighton, trying to keep them in the game despite the large deficit. Wario had only 161 for Victoria, weakening their lead with a player each to go. Nicole launched an attack with a vicious 830 for the Prestige, pulling them ahead at a final score of 2537. Strawberry cratered at 208, a high swing ending the Spurs' hopes of a win at 2228. Lighton survives a thriller to rise to 19-19, while Victoria is down to 17-21 on the year.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades sit their captain Jasmine as they cycle players for rest, while the Prestige give Spirit her first road game off of the year on the back end of a doubleheader. Acorn remained strong with 690 for Lighton this time, building an early lead for the visitors. Stinky had 372 for Freedom on his opening turn, approximately halving the deficit. Katelynn allowed the lead to slip when she managed only 263 for the Prestige. Roxy failed to capitalize, her aggressive turn for the Cascades ending in a paltry 88 after a bad swing. Nicole provided a big 573 for Lighton, extending their lead again with the good outing. Nikolai tried to make something happen for Freedom, but he fell at 158 after a backhand settle slowed his response time on the next offering. Waluigi crumbled at a measly 42 for the Prestige, leaving them at 1568 overall, sparking a bit of hope in the home fans. Stripes got about half of what she needed with 494 for the Cascades, leaving them in a loss with 1112. Lighton rises again to 20-19, while Freedom takes a dip to 27-13.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves begin their final three-game home stand of the year with Hershey on the bench, while the Monarchs begin their critical last week with Pounce sitting first. Avril produced a solid 472 for Southern to lead things off in good form. Juno fired back with 632 for Stonebridge on their first turn, pulling the hosts ahead by a slight margin. Hoppy repelled a flurry of offerings, twice using her backhand to preserve her turn before falling at 625 for the Monarchs. Frosty found her offense again with 536 to keep the Wolves ahead midway through the game. Panda faltered at only 115 for Southern, putting them in an uncomfortable position. Vladimir answered with 162 for Stonebridge, unable to build up a stronger lead heading into the final players' turns. Dominic tapped 392 for the Monarchs at the end, putting them at 1604 overall. Cobalt shut things down with 576 for the Wolves, securing their win at 1906. Stonebridge digs in with a win to go to 15-27, while Southern drops into a tie for the last Hutton Cup spot at 20-19.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Spurs are back in action on the road, with Strawberry sitting out against a Crowns team looking to take control of second place and sitting Cassie to do so. Spice gathered 424 for Victoria to lead off the scoring in decent form. Kayla hammered 1011 for Royal in response, giving the hosts a large lead with a fantastic opening turn. Yekaterina got beat on a deflection at 179 for the Spurs, making a comeback that much more difficult. Jake kept the Crowns on track with 591 on the second attack, extending their lead quite nicely. Sage pulled back with 510 for Victoria, but they remain far behind despite her good turn. Jeremias supplied Royal with 304 on his turn, a mild contribution to help keep them in the lead. Wario had 353 for the Spurs at the end, sticking their losing total at 1466. Nightfur had just 179 for the Crowns, enough to ice the win at 2085 as an impressive home streak continues to 15 games. Royal is up to 28-12, while Victoria dips to 17-22.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The Sharks host the Monarchs for the first of two times this week, returning home for the first time in seven games. Cubby sits for the hosts, while the visitors bench their captain, Panda. Avril served up a good 393 for Southern, but they are not firmly ahead by any means. Graham pummeled 918 for Eastside on a fantastic opener, setting the hosts well ahead. Hoppy couldn't regain the lead for the Monarchs with 351 on their second attack. Chelsea smashed 1015 for the Sharks to counter that, boosting their lead by a significant amount at the halfway point. Pounce had an alright 320 for Southern, but they don't seem to have another gear to challenge the hosts with. Gizmo gathered 562 for Eastside to keep them in control of the game with a player each to go. Dominic brought a little energy with 472 for the Monarchs, but they took the loss at 1536. Salmo shot back with 456 for the Sharks, capping their win at 2951. Eastside bounces up to 20-22, while Southern flails to 20-20 with their road struggles all too apparent.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks will take it easy here, resting the veteran Gabe, while the Crowns look to strengthen their position while sitting their captain Nightfur. Kayla had a sloppy 93 on a second try after a false start, leaving Royal vulnerable immediately. Whiskers had just 89 for Maplewood, who are preparing for a United Cup run next week. Jake had a much better attack for the Crowns with 769 on his turn, giving them a large lead. Diddley picked up 511 for the Lumberjacks in response, keeping them competitive midway through the game. Jeremias had a strong supporting attack of 656 for Royal, helping them to maintain their lead. Bryant offset that damage with 658 for Maplewood, giving both teams an honest chance late in the game. Cassie had a shaky start but still pieced together 423 for the Crowns to end at 1941. Summer fell at 287 for the Lumberjacks, who suffered the loss at 1545. Royal reaches 29-12 now, while Maplewood drops to 21-21.

Microsoft Pitch, Del Sur: The Monarchs begin a tripleheader with their home finale, against the Cascades, who they will see again in two games. Avril sits for the hosts, while the visitors bench Nikolai for standard rest. Jasmine gave Freedom a confident start with 944 on the opening turn. Hoppy pulled back with 447 for Southern, cutting about half of the deficit away. Stinky tried to make a play on his backhand and failed at only 50 points for the Cascades, damaging their offense. Panda accepted 656 for the Monarchs despite earning a technical error replay, happy to have covered the deficit. Roxy got Freedom back in the game with 433, but they will be challenged a bit more. Pounce shot back with 328 for Southern, a lackluster turn leading to a close finish between the teams. Stripes had a disheartening 161 for the Cascades to leave them with a total of 1588. Dominic wasted a good chance by hitting only 84 for the Monarchs, leaving them at a loss with 1515. Freedom survives a scare to get to 28-13, while Southern's fall this week sees them down to 20-21 despite being 14-8 at home.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: This game may bring great clarity or great confusion to the Hutton Cup chase. The Monarchs sit Dominic after his recent collapse, while Katelynn sits for the Prestige. Avril had only 316 for Southern to begin the game, a middling performance from the returning rookie. Acorn fired back with 566 for Lighton, putting them ahead initially in a critical game. Hoppy had to reach to make a save, the play throwing her off later as she exited with a weak 73 for the Monarchs. Spirit didn't make her pay for it, ending at just 64 for the Prestige on an ugly turn. Panda sent a ball too high for Southern, dropping at 28 as the tension in the game rises. Nicole answered with 528 for Lighton, another big turn to extend their lead with a player each to go. Pounce tried to handle a rolling ball, but dragged it into the wicket to end his turn at 441, giving the Monarchs another loss at 858 in a complete unraveling of their season. Waluigi chipped 256 for the Prestige to take the win at a final score of 1414. Lighton's sloppy win proved effective in getting to 21-19, while Southern sinks again to 20-22.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades look to double-up the Monarchs now, as the hosts rest Stinky in their last game before the United Cup, while the visitors bench Hoppy for rest and performance. Avril had trouble with a ball on her backhand, cutting down a good turn at 407. Jasmine shot back with 873 for Freedom, compounding the misery of the visitors with the excellent outing. Panda struck 585 for the Monarchs, enough to cover the deficit on the second turn. Roxy had a disappointing 135 for the Cascades, but they retook the lead anyway by a thin margin. Pounce slipped at 128 for Southern, again wasting an opportunity to get them back in a comfortable position. Nikolai hammered 632 for Freedom, extending their lead greatly ahead of the final players' turns. Dominic killed the Monarchs' chances for success with only 33 after two replays, giving them the loss at 1153. Stripes iced the Cascades win with 608, giving them 2248 overall. Freedom makes it double, rising to 29-13, while Southern sinks to 20-23, almost assuredly out of the Hutton Cup race.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns sit their breakout star Kayla, while the Specters are hoping to be spoilers as Rudolph takes rest in this meeting. Sydney had a decent turn going before a ball hopped over her bat, and she slowly flicked it into the wicket to end with 320 for Harrison. Jake showed no mercy in attack for Royal, pounding 952 to give the hosts a significant early lead. Twinkie II took 329 for the Specters, an alright turn but not enough to cover the deficit. Jeremias saw a ball skip over his bat and into his wicket to bring him down at only 63 for the Crowns. Lexi fired back with 562 for Harrison, pulling the visitors ahead for the first time. Nightfur charged back with a furious 983 for Royal, regaining a strong lead with a player each to go. Mitchell couldn't meet the deficit with 376 for the Specters, taking the loss at a final score of 1587. Cassie tapped 255 to ice the Crowns' 16th straight home win at 2253. Royal is up to 30-12 now, including an 18-4 home record, while Harrison drops to 16-26.

FedEx Ground, Eastside: The end of the line is here for the Monarchs, who sit Avril in the season finale, while the Sharks' second straight game against them sees Salmo on the bench. Hoppy broke out with 966 for Southern, their best lead-off effort of the week likely coming a bit too late. Graham had a lackluster 300 for Eastside in response, giving them an early deficit. Panda turned in an ugly 66 for the Monarchs, unraveling the strength of their first turn quickly. Chelsea made mild progress with 279 for the Sharks, who will have to hope their opponents trip up again. Pounce provided a sturdy 636 in support for Southern, boosting their lead with his turn. Gizmo shot back with 695 for Eastside, keeping them relatively close late in the game. Dominic appropriately ended with a pathetic 2 points, as the Monarchs exit with a whimper at a total of 1670. Cubby flicked 416 at the end for the Sharks, icing a comeback with at 1690. Eastside goes to 21-22, while Southern's week of disasters ends with them finishing at 20-24, including 6-16 on the road for the year.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Week 21 ends with the V-Line derby, where the Meteors are without Vincent, and the Spurs choose to sit Yekaterina for standard rest. Spice had a fantastic effort with 636 for Victoria, using great composure to clear a cluttered pitch amid a frenzy of offerings. Mams had 395 for Viewpoint Sound in response, struggling along at a low pace for much of the turn. Sage tallied another 659 for the Spurs, keeping their lead strong on the second attack. Hoot managed just a mediocre 239 for the Meteors, causing them to fall farther behind. Wario had a measly 99 for Victoria this time, causing their lead to weaken rather inconveniently. Nibbles gained ground with 512 for Viewpoint Sound, putting some late pressure on the visitors. Strawberry stretched out for a save, but would soon fall at 256 for the Spurs, their final score sitting at 1650. Dani pulled back with 411 for the Meteors, but this gave them only 1557 in the loss. Victoria will rise to 18-22 here, while Viewpoint Sound dips to 17-23 and ends 9-13 at home.

That's all for this week, leaving one playoff spot up for grabs in this division and ten teams featuring in the final week after the United Cup break.

Premier Cricket 2018 - Week 20

Premier Week 20 gets underway on a Friday, and will likely complete on Saturday or Sunday. Leading off...

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: Dreamy sits out the home finale for the Blades after a pool appearance, while the Eagles captain Goldy will be benched to try to break her slump. Puff III had a decent opening turn with 277 for Everton, a bad swing at the end cutting the appearance short. Snowball flirted with disaster a few times before a slight deflection downed her at 165 for Swordpoint. Cleo picked up 206 for the Eagles on her turn, unable to break the spell of low scoring. Bandit fired back with 457 for the Blades, doing his part to get them ahead at the halfway mark. Kirstin had an awful 8 for Everton, letting the turn slip away before it got going. Stealth couldn't get much more with 51 for Swordpoint, extending their lead by only a tiny amount. Blizzard fired back with 488 for the Eagles, covering the deficit as they end with 979. Jason N. picked up 472 for the Blades at the end, icing their win at 1145. Swordpoint is up to 24-17 on the year, including 14-8 at home, while Everton drops to 18-19.

Verizon Field, Pacific: A Coastal Derby is next to be played, with the visiting Stills sitting Easter for standard rest, while the host Volcanoes bench Chicky Phil for performance. Sierra tried to hook a ball on her backhand after a productive turn, but it flew out of bounds to stall her at 756 for TodavĂa. Starlight maintained a wonderful pace, but a shaky late swing brought her down at 484 for Pacific. Bells did well on the second attack with 640 for the Stills, extending their lead greatly. Ms. Kitty tried to keep up for the Volcanoes, but her 456 caused them to lose a bit more ground at the midway mark. Prism covered that damage with 492 for TodavĂa, maintaining their lead pretty well. Twinkie I made a dent in the deficit with 695 for Pacific, making things a bit more interesting on the final turn. Anton chipped 327 for the Stills at the end, leaving their final score at 2215. Leonette couldn't steer clear of deflections, falling with 168 to stick the Volcanoes with a loss at 1803, ending a home hot streak. TodavĂa jumps to 17-23, while Pacific falls to 15-25.

Amazon Field, Golden: The Southlands Derby gets renewed as the Pilots host the Predators. The hosts have Dusty resting here, while the visitors sit Leonardo, a tough decision for them. Shawn found good form this time for Midland, posting 686 to lead off the game. Valencia one-upped the opposing captain with 687 for Golden, giving them the narrowest of leads. Rainmane had 288 on a technical error replay, a lackluster turn that weakens the Predators lead. Strut pulled back with 653 for the Pilots, giving them the lead halfway through the game. Americus had a false start at first, but still managed just 128 for Midland on the second attack. Sparkles went with good pace at 530 for Golden, keeping their lead strong as the final players step up to bat. Fuchsia made a good play with 447 for the Predators, but it was too little and too late to help them, as they lost with 1549. A. Charlton topped that nearly with 450 for the Pilots, capping their big win at 2320. Golden surges up to 27-14, while dumping Midland to 19-19 on the year.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Pilots complete their doubleheader on the road, with Sparkles now taking scheduled rest, while the Eagles bench Kirstin after her awful previous outing. Valencia stayed fairly consistent with 680 for Golden to open the scoring this time. Goldy tried to hang on with a backhand touch for Everton, but the next offering cut her down at 465 to give them a deficit. Dusty covered that damage with 491 on an exciting turn for the Pilots star. Puff III couldn't find a groove quickly on her turn, falling at a measly 41 to damage the Eagles offense. Strut accepted 371 for Golden instead of taking a technical error replay, unwilling to risk a decent production of offense. Cleo fired back with 377 for Everton, not doing enough to get the hosts back into the game. A. Charlton mashed 1144 for the Pilots at the end, icing their offense at a lofty 2686. Blizzard had to attempt a technical error replay, but did even worse the second time with a pathetic 49 to send the Eagles to the loss with 932. Golden clinches second place in Premier at 28-14, while Everton drops again to 18-20.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Urban rivals meet in this game, with the visiting Shores giving Katharine the game off, while the host Rockers sit Slinks after she recently played pool. Bear shoveled a firm 706 for Whitewater to start the scoring, looking good after some recent struggles. Misty kept Westside close, responding with 624 on their first turn to mitigate the damage. Twinkie III had a weaker second attack with 392 for the Shores, leaving their lead a bit more vulnerable. Goatee did far worse with a meager 64 for the Rockers, allowing the deficit to grow significantly. Marsell sent a ball too high with 144 for Whitewater, failing to give their lead any help. Midnight made the counterattack with 554 for Westside, bringing the game to a tie with a player each to go. Shaggy set the standard at 552 for the Shores, capping their scoring at 1794. Cowzart couldn't make the rally all the way for the Rockers, his 506 saddling them with a loss at 1748. Whitewater is up to 17-22, just a half-game back of 18-22 Westside.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The desperate Volcanoes come into the hardest place to score and bench Leonette, while the hosts have a struggling Marsell on the bench for the third time in five games. Starlight had only 273 for Pacific on the opening turn, a mediocre outing from the captain. Bear was worse for Whitewater, unable to recapture his form and falling at 102. Ms. Kitty floated a ball a bit too high for the Volcanoes, ending her turn at a weak 69. Twinkie III broke the curse of low scoring in this game, lining 720 for the Shores to give them a strong midway lead. Twinkie I didn't do much to get Pacific back into the game, her 229 not enough to cover the deficit. Katharine had a firm 517 for Whitewater, extending their lead nicely ahead of the final players' turns. Chicky Phil had a redemptive 748 for the Volcanoes on his turn, but they still lost with 1319 overall. Shaggy had only 78 for the Shores, but it was enough for them to win at 1417. Whitewater is now 18-22, while Pacific is 15-26.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Volcanoes complete a road doubleheader when they visit the Eagles. Blizzard sits for the hosts, while the visitors bench their captain Starlight for rest. Ms. Kitty had solid form and a long turn for Pacific at the start, pounding 999 to get them going quickly. Goldy picked up a decent 365 for Everton, but they will trail to begin the game. Twinkie I maintained a run of good form for the Volcanoes with 415, offsetting the damage from the hosts. Puff III couldn't do much, never adjusting to the game and eventually falling at 155 to weaken the Eagles offense. Leonette had only 328 for Pacific, maintaining their lead without much additional growth. Cleo made a nice counterattack with 632 for Everton, but they have more work to do with a player each to go. Chicky Phil burst forward with 679 for the Volcanoes, icing their offense at a good 2421. Kirstin managed 291 for the Eagles, leaving them in a loss with 1443. Pacific snags a surprise win to rise to 16-26, while Everton's descent continues to 18-21.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors want to move up, sitting Noelle for performance reasons, while the Blades rest their breakout star Stealth to begin their three-game road trip. Snowball slashed 560 for Swordpoint to open the scoring, using good pace once she got comfortable. Central had a slower start through a distracted appearance by Twilight, who recorded 320 this time. Dreamy fumbled a ball on a double-tap, ending at a meager 84 for the Blades, which weakens their lead. Dustin did even worse with 42 for the Warriors, wasting a chance for the hosts to catch up. Bandit had a lot of deflections to slow him down, pinning his score at 308 with a low pace for Swordpoint. Mario was no better for Central, hitting only 217 with his own deflection problems, leaving them even further behind late in the game. Jason N. likely confirmed the win for the Blades, slicing 895 to ice their offense at 1847. Wings picked up 411 for the Warriors, but they took a hard loss at 990, snapping a six-game home winning streak. Swordpoint continues to strengthen their position at 25-17, while Central is 17-19 with the loss.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators rest Rainmane after a pool appearance in this critical game, while the Stills do the same for Prism, leaving plenty of offense on the bench on both sides. Easter hurried her offense for TodavĂa, and paid the price with a bad swing that stopped her at 64. Shawn provided a more patient attack for Midland, tallying 887 when he was done to give the hosts a big lead. Sierra had a good swing, but she left a follow-through hanging, and the next offering took her wicket at 423 for the Stills. Leonardo shot back with 409 for the Predators, keeping their lead steady at the halfway mark. Bells made a bigger dent with 656 for TodavĂa, carving into the deficit with the turn. Americus protected the Midland lead with 525 on her turn, putting them in a good position late in the game. Anton couldn't recover fully for the Stills with his 343, leaving them to lose on 1486. Fuchsia had a simple 126 to ice the Predators win at 1947. Midland rises to 20-19 on the year, while TodavĂa drops to a dangerous 17-24.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Shores will rest Shaggy as they go for the week sweep of the Rockers, who put a struggling Goatee back on the bench in the road match. Misty had a mild 318 for Westside, unable to do much damage on the initial turn. Bear slipped at 240 for Whitewater, wasting a good pace as a high ball caused him to fall out of line. Slinks kept the Rockers offense modest, adding 336 to the attack on the second turn. Twinkie III got a little back with 370 for the Shores this time, keeping things close midway through the game. Midnight tried to place a ball high, but it went out of play and stopped her at 169 for Westside, weakening the already fragile lead. Marsell made another move with 248 for Whitewater, the mediocre turn sufficing to put the hosts narrowly ahead with a player each to go. Cowzart set the Rockers up with 328 individually for a total of 1151. Katharine secured the win with 360 for the Shores, good for a final score of 1218. Whitewater gets to 19-22, passing the 18-23 Westside squad they've beaten twice this week.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights try to play spoilers here, but without Jennifer in her first home game off all year, while the Blades sit Dreamy for performance reasons. Snowball had something brewing, but let a swing escape her at 256 for Swordpoint to produce a middling start. Kiwi blitzed with 954 for Terrace City, the surprising burst of offense giving the hosts a large lead. Bandit had a chance to make a good response for the Blades, but he lost his rhythm and then fell at 331. Oreo had a sloppy 231 in response for the Knights, giving away a piece of their lead. Stealth made a good counterattack with 677 for Swordpoint, cutting to the heart of the deficit with his effort. Melissa pummeled 895 in response for Terrace City, boosting their lead late in the game with a timely attack. Jason N. came nowhere near putting the Blades ahead with his poor 96, leaving them to lose with 1360. Quincy had 281 for the Knights at the end, the subdued turn enough to cap their win at 2361. Terrace City is up to 14-22 on the year, while Swordpoint will have to wait to secure third place, dropping to 25-18.

HP Field, Midland: The Predators continue to lead a horde of teams in the middle of the table, sitting Fuchsia for standard rest this time, while the visiting Tridents have Spot on the bench in the Week 20 finale. Precious produced a solid 391 on the first turn for Pronger, setting them up well. Shawn shot back with 434 for Midland, edging the hosts ahead initially in this game. Zach made things a bit tougher with 615 on the second attack, building a stronger Tridents offense this time. Rainmane ended at 256 after a high-arcing deflection clipped out of bounds to end the Predators star's turn. Potter kept Pronger's offense on high with 643 on his turn, extending their lead nicely. Leonardo had an ugly 117 for Midland, sending a ball sky-high to end his turn abruptly. Lize kept it simple on flick-swings for the Tridents, ending at 315 to give them a total of 1964. Americus failed to get anywhere close to the deficit with 80 for the Predators, leaving them to lose with 887. Pronger dished out some spoilers, rising to 15-24, while Midland is down to 20-20 in a frustrating loss.

That's all for Premier this week. Select will begin a few minutes after post here, but their Week 21 won't end until Monday, followed by Tournament as well.

Tournament 2018 - Round 1 Day 48

We're back with Friday's Tournament action. The next two days will be taken off after a standard set today. We begin with...

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Shadow v. Pauline. A legendary captain clashes with a rookie in 7-ball with the silver cue, the last series on that bracket for the round. Web City's Shadow scratched on the break in game 1, allowing Capital City's Pauline to create a four-ball run. She missed the 6, and Shadow followed up with the final pair of shots for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Pauline picked up a pair of shots early in game 2, and then another at the end to stall the attack of the Spiders' Shadow, who couldn't add to his three-ball run. Pauline's win tied the series at 1. Shadow didn't have his sharpest shots in game 3, none more evident than a bad miss on the 7 that allowed Pauline to pull off her second great cut of the game for the win. Pauline took the series 2-1, and will visit the Everton Eagles' Puff III in the second round. Shadow will take six bids with him to the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Graham v. Rainmane. The red cue comes on now for a battle between strong veterans in Rotation. Eastside's Graham had a quick start in game 1, pacing himself to a lead, and while Midland's Rainmane eventually caught up, Graham pulled away to win 8-5 on a three-ball run-out for a 1-0 series lead. The two players each had an early double-pot in game 2, but the Predators' Rainmane soon pulled away for the early lead. It looked like she would get the win, but the Sharks' Graham used enough defense to slow his opponent down, and then stole the win from her on a three-ball run-out. Graham took the game 8-7, and clinched the series at 2-0. Graham kept up the pace of his attack in game 3, leading for almost all of the game. Rainmane had some offense later on, but Graham closed the 8-6 win to sweep the series 3-0, earning the right to host the Archtown Arrows' Wild Thing in the second round. Rainmane takes four bids into the second round.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Debby Ryan. The blue cue takes its turn in Accuracy between leaders. Pearl's Neopolitan couldn't find her shot immediately, an issue that haunted her as Southridge's Debby got lucky in the middle of the game. Debby faded late, but held on to win 2-3 for the 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Neopolitan made the same mistake early in game 2, getting herself behind before things had gotten going. The Defenders' Debby had a harder time maintaining the lead in this one, but Neopolitan also took a step back, making it a rather easy 3-5 win for Debby to secure the series at 2-0. Neopolitan and Debby combined for an exciting game 3, keeping it close right up to the end. Neopolitan made the last ball, and looked to force overtime, but the cue followed it in, giving Debby the 2-3 win instead. Debby swept the series 3-0, and will visit the Everton Eagles' Kirstin in the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer Livilotti v. Starlight. The silver cue returns to the table as big-name players meet in 12-ball. Terrace City's Jennifer double-potted solids at the bottom right on the break, allowing Pacific's Starlight some early possession. Starlight had trouble positioning for her last shot, and she gave away a wild-card ball, which led to Jennifer rallying back for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Jennifer had a good start in game 2, getting most of her shots squared away, but a calculated risk of illegally busting a cluster led to the Volcanoes' Starlight making five balls over two turns to steal the win and tie the series at 1. Starlight couldn't do much with the break in game 3, and when it came time to make her attack, she faltered, allowing Jennifer to pick up the win after her strategic scratch play worked. Jennifer claimed the series at 2-1, and will host the Tysini Hummingbirds' Paps in round two.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Spirit v. Bryant. Veterans collide in a series of 9-ball, with the red cue getting the nod this time. Lighton's Spirit dominated in game 1, with a three-ball run from the break and another one late after Maplewood's Bryant had a miscue. Bryant still got a chance on the 9, but he chipped the shot, and Spirit tapped it to the top right for the 1-0 series lead on her win. The Prestige's Spirit took a massive step back in game 2, unable to produce anything close to her previous level of offense. The Lumberjacks' Bryant didn't immediately fill the void, but he added a few shots here and there, and took the 9 at the end to tie the series with a win. Bryant made three balls on the break, and kept up the momentum in game 3 to defeat a shaky performance from Spirit. Bryant closed with a pair of balls for the 2-1 series win, and will visit the Swordpoint Blades rookie Jason N. in the second round, one of his three bids to advance.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Jennifer Livilotti. The visitors plays a second series today, this one in 10-ball with the silver cue. Westside's Goatee let Terrace City's Jennifer gobble up possession, and Jennifer obliged with a big run. Jennifer's game fell apart with a scratch as she attempted on the 10; Goatee then made it from ball-in-hand for the 1-0 win in this Urban Derby. The Rockers' Goatee took a drastically different approach in game 2, owning possession herself this time. The Knights' Jennifer rarely got a shot in between runs by Goatee, the last of which was a three-ball run-out to clinch the series at 2-0 in her win. Jennifer lost her cool a bit in game 3, but not too much. She had reason to be upset, as she twice made the 10 only for scratches to deny her the win. Goatee's five-ball run in the middle of the game paired with a shot on the 10 from ball-in-hand for the win, giving her a 3-0 series sweep. Goatee faces Tysini Hummingbirds star Leandra in the second round.

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Graham v. Mitchell. A strong captain faces a shaky rookie in 10-ball with the red cue, the last series of the round on that bracket. Game 1 saw Eastside's Graham start well before missed contact. Harrison's Mitchell then made the 10 uncalled, but Graham let him play on, creating a five-ball run. Mitchell missed his legal attempt at the 10, and Graham buried it for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Graham had some possession in game 2, but the Specters' Mitchell played a much larger role. He kept possession early on after Graham made a mistake, and put up another five-ball run only to miss contact on the 10. This time, however, Graham didn't make the 10, and Mitchell cut it to the bottom right to tie the series at 1 with his win. Mitchell pulled off the upset in game 3, as Graham never really recovered from the previous loss. Mitchell potted just enough to keep going, and then took the 10 late for the win, and a 2-1 series win. Mitchell will visit the Web City Spiders' Jack in the second round. Graham has five bids going to the second round.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Puff I v. Chicky Phil. The silver cue returns for this 12-ball series between veterans. Pacific's Chicky Phil had better fortunes in game 1, getting good positioning throughout the game. Modernistic's Puff I never got herself set up, and when Chicky Phil made three balls over his last two turns, he earned the win before she had a chance. Chicky Phil is ahead 1-0 in the series. The Volcanoes' Chicky Phil started with a four-ball run on the game 2 break, but that was the last of his joy for this game. The Union's Puff I methodically pulled herself back into the game, and overcame a couple of poor shots to grab the win late, tying the series at 1. Puff I had a messy break in game 3 that surrendered a wild-card ball to Chicky Phil immediately. He quickly gave it back, and then surrendered a wild-card ball to Puff I, but his defense in three places held. Chicky Phil did illegally pot his last ball, giving Puff I a chance to tie the game from ball-in-hand, but she missed on the second shot of her turn, and Chicky Phil could rest easy with the 2-1 series win. Chicky Phil will visit Infinity Torpedoes veteran Mr. Snowman for a second round series, one of his four bids to advance, while Puff I takes three of her own to the next round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer Livilotti v. Wario. The silver cue remains in action for 15-ball now. Terrace City's Jennifer laid low in game 1, allowing Victoria's Wario to solve most of the pressure for shots. Wario picked up the pace late, but missed contact on the 13 at a bad angle. Jennifer then took over for two shots to claim the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Jennifer tried the same approach in game 2, and the Spurs' Wario obliged, even collecting a nice four-ball run at one point. Jennifer never saw Wario's surprise coming, as he made the 9-15 combination to the top right after Jennifer left in partially lined up. Wario's win tied the series at 1. Jennifer took a potshot at the 2-15 combination after an error by Wario early in game 3, but she missed. This would be her best look in the game, as her offense didn't arrive in time, and Wario controlled the pace of play right up to his winning three-ball run-out. Wario took the series 2-1, and will travel to Maplewood to face the Lumberjacks' Whiskers in the second round. Both players will play five bids in the next round.

UPS Hall, Maplewood: Summer v. Caitlin Woode. The red cue gets the call this time, playing 7-ball. Both players scratched early in game 1, and possession was fairly even, although Southridge's Caitlin had a bit more of it. Caitlin also had no good shot on the 7, and she left it lined up for Maplewood's Summer to bury in the top left for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Caitlin tried to make a more positive impact in game 2, but she couldn't get enough possession, and a late miss on the 7 allowed the Lumberjacks' Summer to atone for her scratch with a medium-range shot. Summer converted, clinching the series at 2-0. Game 3 saw another even battle, and Caitlin even had a good chance at the 7 toward the top left, but it rattled out, and Summer capped the game by tapping it in. Summer swept the series 3-0, and will host the Infinity Torpedoes' Shelley in the second round, one of her six bids to continue playing.

Apple Center, TodavĂa: Prism v. A. Charlton. The red cue stays on for another series, this time playing 8-ball. TodavĂa's Prism had a three-ball run from the break in game 1, also hitting some collateral damage. Golden's Charlton picked up a three-ball run, and then another one after that, but Prism shot back on a four-ball run-out for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Prism had a quick five-ball run on her second turn of game 2. The Pilots' Charlton made a half-counterattack, half-defensive move, but Prism wouldn't let it rattle her, taking the 8 to the bottom side a few turns later for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Charlton had a better starting offense in game 3, but she couldn't finish the job, missing on the 8 multiple times. Prism also needed two shots before she could bury the 8, but she put it in the bottom right to win the game and take the series in a 3-0 sweep. Prism hosts Central Warriors superstar Dustin in the second round, one of three bids to advance.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Chris v. Strut. The blue cue brings it home for the week in Accuracy between strong veterans. Both players got through regulation in game 1 unscathed, but that's where luck ran out for Capital City's Chris. His overtime break was empty, and Golden's Strut made the 9 on his only overtime shot to win 0-1 and take a 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Chris had the last shot advantage early in game 2, but gave it away on a double-pot, a risky bet that paid off when Chris left the Pilots' Strut with a difficult shot on the last ball in a tied game. Strut missed, and Chris converted to win 2-3, tying the series at 1 with his win. Chris again let the last shot advantage get away from him in game 3, but when Strut missed twice, he looked brilliant. Even more, Chris rattled a hard shot out of the bottom left, and then made the ball on the next turn to bait Strut into trouble. Chris took the win 1-3 and the series 2-1, advancing to host the Eastside Sharks captain Graham in the second round, one of his five bids to continue.

That's all for today's games. We'll be mostly quiet over the weekend save for the finish of Week 20 in Premier and potentially the start of Week 21 in Select.

Tournament 2018 - Round 1 Day 47

Another day of standard appearances for Tournament play, beginning with...

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Lionel v. Slinks. Club-mates for Brute Force and Urban Division rivals meet in 15-ball with the silver cue to start the day. Westside's Slinks played a cleaner game 1 than did Commerce's Lionel, with the latter seeing many turnovers for illegal shots. Slinks closed her strong win with a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. The Rockers' Slinks took a step back in possession in game 2, especially noticeable when the Tradewinds' Lionel put up a late four-ball run. Lionel's only failure here was missing the 15 twice, the latter time without contact, which allowed Slinks to poach the win from ball-in-hand to clinch the series at 2-0. Slinks kept a low profile again in game 3, and Lionel made sure to finish what he started with a five-ball run-out to win this time. Slinks still took the series 2-1, punching her ticket to the second round. Lionel takes three bids into the second round.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Waluigi v. Cassie. A struggling sophomore takes on a perky rookie in Accuracy with the red cue. Lighton's Waluigi fell behind early, and while some struggles in the middle of the game tied things up, Royal's Cassie made a late bank to preserve a 2-3 lead for the win and 1-0 series lead after Waluigi stumbled earlier. The Crowns' Cassie fell behind when she scratched on the break in game 2, but she kept things close, and managed to get the Prestige's Waluigi to miss twice late in the game. Cassie then made a shot to secure another 2-3 result, clinching the series at 2-0 as Waluigi couldn't retie the game. Cassie had a much better break in game 3, and Waluigi quickly fell behind. Once again, the scoring remained close, but Cassie held the lead the whole time, winning 2-3 to complete the aesthetically pleasing 3-0 sweep. Cassie will visit the Swordpoint Blades' Dreamy in the second round. Cassie has four bids to work with in the second round.

Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Taylor Swift v. Boots. The silver cue's split doubleheader in Commerce wraps up with more 15-ball here. Pearl's Boots showed a much better focus in game 1, keeping Commerce's Taylor limited to bad shots. Boots made good on her early effort by making four of the last five balls for the win after Taylor couldn't quite pot the 15. Boots leads the series 1-0. The Surfers' Boots started out patiently after scratching on the game 2 break. The Tradewinds' Taylor made some early progress on offense, but Boots unleashed an eight-ball run, and the made the last two shots a turn later when Taylor couldn't pot the 14. Boots secured the series at 2-0 with the binge of shots. Boots went on a similar surge in game 3 with another eight-ball run, but she missed the 14. Taylor missed contact with the 14, giving Boots a chance to win, but she then rattled the 15 out of the top left, and Taylor made the tap-in to salvage a win. Boots won the series 2-1, and will visit the earlier winner Slinks in the second round at the Westside Rockers' home table. Taylor will play three bids in the second round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Panda v. Sparkles. Two of Oriental United's players meet in 9-ball, the blue cue's last first round series in the event. Golden's Sparkles came to play in game 1, with a pair of balls on her first turn and a four-ball run on the next. Southern's Panda had chances to look dangerous over his next two turns, but shaky misses allowed Sparkles to tap in the 9 for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Monarchs' Panda picked up the pace after an aggressive game 2 break from the Pilots' Sparkles. Panda showed off his skills on choppy but effective turns, holding off Sparkles until he could get the win for himself, tying the series at 1. Panda opened with a three-ball run in game 3, and while Sparkles never matched that single-turn effort, she kept herself close and potted the last two balls when Panda butchered a shot on the 8. Sparkles won the series 2-1, and will move on to visit the Tysini Hummingbirds' Brownie in the second round. Panda will have five bids going into the second round.

Sprint Hall, Victoria: Yekaterina Vasilyeva v. Summer. A strong third-year hosts a rookie for Accuracy with the red cue. Victoria's Yekaterina had a fairly dominant game 1 appearance, never letting the lead go after Maplewood's Summer had an early miss. Yekaterina forced Summer into a couple more late misses, securing the 1-3 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs' Yekaterina didn't enjoy game 2 as much, falling behind early and never getting a chance to catch up the Lumberjacks' Summer, who won 3-5 to tie the series at 1. Yekaterina did have a nice kick to save herself from more embarrassment on the last shot. Yekaterina played very cleanly in game 3, saving her misses for later on after Summer was already behind. Yekaterina did nearly fall into a tie, but she held on to win 2-3 to take the series at 2-1. Yekaterina will host the Web City Spiders' Shiny in the second round.

Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Sparkles v. Solaris. A veteran gets her second series today, playing 15-ball with the blue cue against a sophomore. Golden's Sparkles seemed to have the first surge in game 1, but Infinity's Solaris controlled the middle of the game well. Momentum shifted again just in time for Sparkles to do most of the late work for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Solaris made sure to sustain his pressure deeper into game 2, allowing the Pilots' Sparkles to star early on before taking over with a six-ball run. Solaris missed his first try on the 15, but Sparkles missed contact on a sharp cut attempt, and Solaris took it on the second try from ball-in-hand, tying the series at 1. Tensions rose high while shot quality dropped in game 3. Solaris tried to play it off as a method for frustrating Sparkles, but that proved to backfire when her unusually aggressive shooting helped her win the game and the 2-1 series. Sparkles will host Hannah of the Queens Flames in the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fluffina v. Beth. The silver cue returns to action now in 7-ball between veterans. Game 1 saw a first half dominated by silly combination attempts by both players, which suddenly ended as Pearl's Beth erupted for a seven-ball run-out and the stunning win over Infinity's Fluffina. Beth holds a 1-0 series lead. The change in style of play in game 2 saw a little less time devoted to messy shots, but the Surfers' Beth still had a four-ball run-out to give herself the series at 2-0 over a hapless Torpedoes' Fluffina. Fluffina had an early three-ball run in game 3 to establish herself, but after a sloppy middle portion, Beth emerged with another four-ball run-out to take this game as well. Beth swept the series 3-0, and will visit the Westside Rockers' Misty in the second round.

Sprint Hall, Victoria: Sage v. Dreamy. A Southwestern Derby between Solid Core club-mates sees the silver cue play another 7-ball series. Victoria's Sage gave herself a quick advantage in game 1, potting the 7 on the break to the top side for a 1-0 series lead over Swordpoint's Dreamy. The Spurs' Sage struggled a bit more in game 2, especially as she watched the Blades' Dreamy piece together a well-weighted four-ball run. Dreamy didn't get another run off, missing the 7 at the top left, where Sage tapped it in to secure the series for herself at 2-0. Dreamy salvaged a game for herself in game 3, keeping Sage limited to low-probability shots. Dreamy's second turn saw a three-ball run-out, with the 5-7 combination to the top right acting as the winner. Sage stills advances on a 2-1 series win to host the Central Warriors sophomore Mario in the second round, one of her six bids to continue on.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: Shiny v. Josie. The red cue jumps into this one, mediating 15-ball between the host veteran and visiting rookie. A tight start to game 1 gave way to Web City's Shiny playing delicately while Oceanside's Josie developed a scratching issue. Shiny picked up the slack in the end with a three-ball run-out, giving her a 1-0 series lead with the win. The Waves' Josie took a step forward in game 2, while the Spiders' Shiny retreated a bit, leading to a much more balanced game. Still, Josie's late misses cost her, as Shiny was there to bank in the 15 to the bottom side for the win, sealing the series at 2-0. Shiny had a five-ball run early in game 3 and a four-ball run near the end, but a scratch ended the latter run, and Josie took the 15 as one of only a few shots going in her favor in the game. This made it a 2-1 series win for Shiny, who advances to host the Pearl Surfers' Beth in the second round. Josie will play five bids in the second round.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Hughbert v. Tigerette. A big test for a sophomore awaits when a star pays a visit for 9-ball with the red cue. Commerce's Tigerette took a predictably large portion of possession, making seven of the nine balls over the course of three turns. Southridge's Hughbert stalled her at times, but couldn't stop her, and Tigerette won for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 featured much sloppier play, including a long chase on the 1. After some slow play, the Tradewinds' Tigerette saw a lucky bounce off the 7 send the 9 into the top side, only for the cue to then deflect unfortunately to the bottom side for a scratch. This gifted the win to the Defenders' Hughbert, tying the series at 1. Tigerette dominated in game 3, using a seven-ball run to rattle Hughbert, who managed to make the 8 but couldn't bank the 9 to the bottom side. Tigerette sent it there directly instead, securing the series at 2-1 and giving herself a second round visit to the Southern Monarchs' Avril.

Intel Center, Diamond: Citrus v. Sugar. A pair of veterans return us to 7-ball with the silver cue. A number of chipped shots in game 1 kept possession alternating regularly between the players, until Diamond's Citrus took the win with a pair of shots at the end for the 1-0 series lead over Web City's Sugar. The Spiders' Sugar deserved better than she got in game 2, working a five-ball run only to miss on the 6. The Gems' Citrus made sure to end the game quickly, making the last two balls for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Citrus went from start to finish all in one turn in game 3, making a seven-ball run-out from the break to sweep Sugar 3-0. Citrus will stay at home in the second round in this event, hosting Royal Crowns rookie Cassie.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Missy v. Stephanie Livilotti. We'll end the day with 12-ball and the red cue. Capital City's Missy made a stripe on the break, and had more fortunate positioning throughout game 1, easily holding off Southridge's Stephanie for the win. Missy leads the series 1-0. The Defenders' Stephanie roared back with a three-ball run on her first turn of game 2. The Sharpshooters' Missy had a tough time getting anything aligned, and once she did, Stephanie took only two more turns before picking up the win to tie the series at 1 with her quick attack. Stephanie made a pair of shots on the break in game 3, but she allowed Missy too much time to get back into the game. Stephanie's extensive set-up work was undone by one miss, and Missy made her last shot easily to take the series 2-1. Missy will host the Midland Predators' Rainmane in the second round.

That's all for today. We'll wrap up a successful return week tomorrow with a standard set.

Elite Cricket 2018 - Week 20

We're back in cricket with Elite taking the stage for a couple of days. First up...

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Sharpshooters continue to push for the division title, sitting Sprinkles for the first time at home this year, while Neopolitan takes rest for the Surfers. Boots started at a good pace for Pearl, but she eased up too soon and fell with 329. Chris had no issues in establishing Capital City with 774 on their first turn of the game, producing a big lead. Watermelon fell out of rhythm early in her turn, scoring a middling 266 for the Surfers that won't cover the deficit. Missy answered that with 467 for the Sharpshooters, making a noticeable addition to their lead. Bright gained 368 for Pearl, unable to make a move to pressure the hosts at all. Lorde had to take a mandatory replay for playing through a technical error, but she turned it into 896 as Capital City gains an even better lead. Beth ended with a mere 83 for the Surfers, and they lost with 1046 in total. Pauline kept it simple with 149 for the Sharpshooters, icing their win at 2286. Capital City rises to 31-6, while Pearl drops to 21-19.

Ebay Center, Queens: Big firepower is left on the bench in the Flames' first half of a doubleheader, as they go without their captain Crystal, while their newest rivals, the Waves, sit Celestia for rest as well. Snuggle carved out 582 for Oceanside on the opening turn, giving the visitors a nice start. Violetta had a cluttered pitch by the end of her turn, but it didn't stop her from tallying 787 for Queens. Josie muscled up with 567 for the Waves, covering the deficit nicely for the visitors. Briana pounded 482 in response for the Flames, regaining a smaller lead for the hosts at the midway mark. Dewey slipped up with a measly 28 for Oceanside, cracking under pressure yet again. Kyle shot back with 282 for Queens, giving their lead a little boost before the final players' turns. Jason V. answered with 487 for the Waves, forcing the hosts to respond to their final score of 1664. Hannah met the challenge with 447 for the Flames, icing their win at 1998. Queens swept the league season series to rise to 20-20, while Oceanside, who won the United Cup battle, is 20-19 now.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Flames complete the doubleheader with Kyle on the bench, while the Tradewinds give Niki rest after a pool appearance as they fight to stay in this division. Tigerette couldn't clear her swing up fast enough, a light deflection enough to stall her at 45 for Commerce. Crystal fired back with 551 for Queens, surging in pace before dropping off late in the turn. Taylor got shut down at 153 on a deflection for the Tradewinds, hurting the comeback effort. Violetta added a little support with 368 for the Flames, keeping them in control halfway through the game. Lionel couldn't do anything about a high offering that took out his wicket at 191, keeping Commerce down. Briana padded the Queens lead with another 417, keeping them going in the right direction. Rosemary just mishit a ball to end at 122 for the Tradewinds, their disappointing loss totaling 511. Hannah tapped another 560 for the Flames to secure their win at 1896. Queens is now at 21-20, while Commerce takes an untidy slip to 17-21, into a tie for the last safe spot.

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: The Southwest Derby, featuring Elite's top two teams, sees the host Sharpshooters bench Pauline for performance, while the Torpedoes do the same to Solaris. Smudge hammered 1249 for Infinity on the opening turn, a massive start for the visitors. Chris fired back with 850 for Capital City, cutting into the deficit strongly on his counterattack. Fluffina got most of that back with a fiery 818 for the Torpedoes, maintaining their lead quite well. Missy slipped at 320 for the Sharpshooters, her good turn wasted by a bad swing as the hosts fall far behind. Shelley posted 606 for Infinity on her turn, keeping their offense very strong. Sprinkles got some of it back with 535 for Capital City, but they will need a massive turnaround to save this one. Mr. Snowman tacked on 417 at the end for the Torpedoes to finish with a lofty 3090. Lorde pulled in 504 for the Sharpshooters, but they were short at 2209 this time. Infinity's statement game gets them up to 25-16, while Capital City dips to 31-7.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds look to bounce back against the Pirates. The hosts will sit Rosemary as her recent hot stretch ended, while the Pirates rest Steven after a pool appearance. Delila burst forward with 774 for Atlantic to start the scoring in great form for the visitors. Tigerette had another lousy appearance for Commerce, taking a meager 55 this time. Isabella had a nice touch on her backhand to extend her turn, but she was out of rhythm and fell with 354 for the Pirates. Taylor did a bit better for the Tradewinds, but her 240 kept them far behind at the halfway mark. Klaus had a poor 225 for Atlantic, maintaining their lead without building it up any more. Lionel failed to make a counterattack, his 157 causing Commerce to lose ground again. Max gained 851 for the Pirates, likely securing their victory with a final score of 2204. Niki ended at just 54 after a deflection stopped her, leaving the Tradewinds with another ugly loss at 506. Atlantic surges up to 23-16, while Commerce sinks to 17-22 with the loss.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Tradewinds finish their doubleheader with Tigerette on the bench on the road, while the Nighthawks sit Gal to start a home doubleheader. Taylor had an awful 16 for Commerce, showing no control of her swing as her team's unraveling continues. Peach wasn't much better, a high-arcing ball forcing her into a bad backhand that ended her turn with only 57 for North Modernistic. Lionel looked ready to break out of his personal slump, but a bad swing downed him with 194. Cheddar pulled the Nighthawks ahead with a sufficient 202, although their lead remains quite small. Rosemary re-escalated the attack with 391 for Commerce, pulling them ahead again. B. Chapman fired back with 575 for North Modernistic, a good turn to strengthen their lead with a player each to go. Niki faltered at 161 for the Tradewinds, causing them to lose again at 762. Luigi chopped 1003 at the end for the Nighthawks, confirming their win at 1837. North Modernistic jumps to 12-27 with the win, while Commerce drops to 17-23.

IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks and Arrows meet for the first part of a home-and-home, with Peach sitting for the hosts, while the visitors bench Sally. Ruby had a lackluster 195 for Archtown to lead off the scoring. Cheddar pulled North Modernistic narrowly ahead with 224 in response, good for a minor lead. Sleepy B. kept a good pace the Arrows in this one, ending at 704 to give them a stronger second chance at the lead. Gal pulled back with 513 for the Nighthawks in her return to the lineup, keeping them close enough to strike back. Dusky shot back with 714 for Archtown, boosting their lead with another great turn on their side. B. Chapman scooped 471 for North Modernistic, unable to stop the deficit from growing before the final players' turns. Wild Thing supplied 571 more for the Arrows to protect their final score of 2184. Luigi had only 256 this time, as the Nighthawks take the hit with a losing total of 1464. Archtown buys themselves more time at 15-23, while North Modernistic slips to 12-28.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers are set to bench Beth for this game as they try to jockey for position, while the Pirates rest Klaus in their fourth of six straight road games. Delila gathered 304 for Atlantic to begin this game, lacking a consistent swing during the turn. Boots pulled exactly even with 304 of her own for Pearl, leaving the result up to the rest of the players. Isabella fired back with 818 for the Pirates on the second attack, pulling them ahead by a better margin. Watermelon didn't have as much pace for the Surfers, causing them to fall behind on her 461. Steven had some creative bat work for Atlantic, but he still fell with 368, weakening their lead a bit. Neopolitan picked up some slack with 448 for Pearl, but they remain noticeably behind with a player each to go. Max had a decent 297 for the Pirates at the end, giving them a total of 1787. Bright tried to make a rally, but he fell with 392, and the Surfers came up short at 1605. Atlantic jumps again to 24-16, while Pearl drops to 21-20.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union will sit their captain Ms. Puppy in their home finale, while the visiting Pirates rest Klaus again for his earlier pool appearance. Delila collected 731 for Atlantic to lead off the scoring in fine form for the visitors. Daisy fired back with a firm 576 for Modernistic, keeping them within striking distance after the first turn. Isabella kept up a strong attack for the Pirates with 509, building their lead despite her lack of pace. Puff I got beat on a deflection at 144 for the Union, causing the deficit to grow at the midway point. Steven hauled in a massive 1135 for Atlantic, giving their lead another huge boost. Kodiak tried to counterattack for Modernistic, providing 410 on his solid turn. Max sprayed another 601 for the Pirates this time, icing a boisterous win at 2976. Chimpy shoved 735 for the Union, but they still took the loss at 1865 despite his rally. Atlantic surges to 25-16, making the battle for second more interesting, while Modernistic dips to 12-28, as well as just 5-17 at home.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows give Sleepy B. rest in this rematch from earlier in the week, while the Nighthawks sit Luigi for rest at the end of his recent hot stretch. Peach rocketed 668 for North Modernistic to start the game, her fiery pace serving the visitors well early on. Sally clobbered 1335 for Archtown in response, putting them far ahead after the first turn. Cheddar picked up 385 for the Nighthawks, unable to cover the deficit with a difficult appearance. Ruby countered that with 655 for the Arrows, keeping their lead extremely strong at the halfway point. Gal saw a deflection bring her down with only 281 for North Modernistic, hurting their comeback chances further. Dusky pummeled another 830 for Archtown this time, providing a large boost to their offense. B. Chapman faltered at 115 for the Nighthawks, leaving them to lose with 1449. Wild Thing didn't do much more with 138 for the Arrows, capping a hefty win at 2958. Archtown makes it double this week, rising to 16-23, while North Modernistic is down to 12-29.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers sit Neopolitan again in their home finale, while the Hummingbirds look to protect the last playoff spot without their captain Princess in the lineup. Leandra attacked pretty well with 424 for Tysini to get things going in this big game. Boots couldn't cover that for Pearl, her poor swinging form causing her to fall at only 171. Charli couldn't keep the ball in front of her late in her turn, ending at a solid 384 for the Hummingbirds. Watermelon had a pacey turn developing before turning an early offering to the sky, ending at just 64 for the Surfers. Brownie couldn't give Tysini the kind of attack they needed, only hitting a paltry 37. Bright churned out 619 for Pearl in response, making it a much closer game on the final players' turns. Paps had only 200 for the Hummingbirds, leaving them at a weak total of 1045. Beth did enough with a chaotic 283 to give the Surfers the win at 1137. Pearl ends their home schedule at 8-14, and move to 22-20, while Tysini is down to 21-17.

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows host the Tradewinds to end Week 20 in Elite, with the hosts sitting Wild Thing while the visitors bench a flailing Taylor. Tigerette had a weak turn of 225 for Commerce as a deflection clipped a ball out of play rather early on. Sally shot back with a better 521 for Archtown, giving the hosts the initial lead with her firm outing. Lionel had another nightmare turn of only 90 points for the Tradewinds, keeping them at a noticeable deficit. Ruby tried to get tricky on her backhand, but it just slowed down the inevitable, and she took 506 for the Arrows on the second attack. Rosemary gave Commerce a respectable 548 this time, but that only covered the recent damage against them. Sleepy B. had only 171 in her return to action from a much-needed break, putting Archtown in a little bit of late danger. Niki shrugged off an early ball, sending it out of bounds at just 102, leaving the Tradewinds in another brutal loss at 965, their fourth straight sub-1k game. Dusky had no pace for the Arrows, but her 87 iced their win at 1285. Archtown is up to 17-23, while Commerce falls behind them at 17-24.

That's all for Elite this week. Premier may get some attention tonight, but most likely will play Friday and Sunday. Tournament play is up this afternoon.
