Select Cricket 2018 - Week 19

We're back, trying to return to normal scheduling with Select on a Monday. One team will finish their season this week. We begin with...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: These teams meet twice this week, with the Specters sitting Sydney in the first game, while the Crowns bench Kayla for standard rest. Jake tried to make a play on his backhand, but he spiked the next ball back into his wicket to end his turn at 165 for Royal. Twinkie II couldn't get control of her appearance for Harrison, falling at a poor 96 on their first turn. Jeremias got the offense going more earnestly with 929 for the Crowns, giving them a massive lead on the second attack. Lexi sent a ball too high, ending with a poor 225 for the Specters, who trail badly. Nightfur had a solid 391 to pad the Royal lead in a decent appearance. Rudolph made a nice play on his backhand, but a low-rolling ball took him out at 328 for Harrison, allowing them to fall farther behind. Cassie supplied a simple 324 for the Crowns at the end, icing their offense at 1809. Mitchell did well with 512 for the Specters, but they suffered the loss at 1161. Royal continues to surge to 23-12, while Harrison is down to 14-21 with the loss.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems close their season this week, but host the rival Cascades first off in their home finale. Rosalina sits for the hosts, while the visitors bench Stripes this time. Jasmine had a decent swing, but a dead ball disrupted her play and she ended with 138 for Freedom. Citrus had a mediocre 233 for Diamond in response, putting them ahead by a small margin early on. Stinky blasted 1163 for the Cascades on the second attack, pacing them to a large lead this time. Pedey had a modest 266 for the Gems, unable to dig the hosts out of the deficit now facing their team. Roxy added a gentle 295 for Freedom on the next turn, keeping them in control of the game. Smokey contributed 615 for Diamond on his turn, cutting into the deficit a bit with the nice outing. Nikolai added 408 for the Cascades at the end, setting their final score at 2004. Cassandra made a push with 531 for the Gems, but they still fell at a total of 1745. Diamond ends their home slate at 6-16, going to 12-30 overall, while Freedom rises to 23-11.

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters wrap up a quick pair of home games, sitting Twinkie II for this one, while the Monarchs second game of a five-game road trip sees Avril on the bench. Hoppy had a paltry 54 for Southern to open the scoring in poor form. Sydney answered with a good 450 for Harrison on their initial turn, putting them ahead by a noticeable margin. Panda pulled the Monarchs ahead with 568 on his turn, helping to offset their slow start a bit. Lexi put up 345 for the Specters at the halfway mark, keeping them ahead by a smaller amount. Pounce tried to go with pace for Southern, but his swinging angle made it difficult, and he fell with 352, covering the deficit lightly. Rudolph refused to let Harrison get pushed around, countering with 907 to give them a big lead late in the game. Dominic had no chance after a couple of deflections, ending with a pitiful 18 for the Monarchs, who lost with 992. Mitchell couldn't handle a fast offering, ending at 208 as the Specters win with 1910. Harrison is up to 15-21 on the year, while Southern dips to 20-17.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns and Specters finish a home-and-home here in opposite ends of doubleheaders. The Specters sit Lexi this time, while Jake will take the bench for the Crowns. Sydney couldn't get as much on her opening turn this time, falling with 312 for Harrison. Kayla shot back with 575 for Royal this time, putting them in the lead early on. Twinkie II shot back with 472 for the Specters, covering the deficit with a good performance. Jeremias fought off a dangerous flurry of offerings with precision, collecting 514 to put the Crowns ahead at the midway mark. Rudolph couldn't produce a big attack here, his 279 weakening Harrison's position in the game. Nightfur stumbled at 72 for Royal, sacrificing their chance to take a large lead into the final players' turns. Mitchell didn't do much for the Specters with 129, putting their final score at 1192 to force a small response from the hosts. Cassie tacked on 537 for the Crowns at the end, securing their win at 1698. Royal remains a dangerous force at 24-12, while Harrison slips to 15-22 now.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns switch jerseys and put Nightfur on the bench to end the doubleheader, while the Meteors sit their captain Mams to begin this four-game road trip. Hoot slashed 501 for Viewpoint Sound immediately, a pacey attack to give the visitors a positive start. Kayla fired back with 640 for Royal, undeterred by the sharp first attack as the hosts surge ahead. Nibbles took 371 for the Meteors, covering the deficit with a slightly weaker attack. Jake belted 1022 for the Crowns this time out, extending their lead greatly midway through the game. Vincent put up 227 for Viewpoint Sound, the unimpressive turn doing nothing to get them back in the game. Jeremias stumbled at 80 points for Royal, but their lead is not in danger late in the game. Dani applied pressure with 727 for the Meteors, giving them a final of 1826 to force the hosts to respond. Cassie did just enough with 135 to grab the win for the Crowns at 1877. Royal made it interesting but still rise to 25-12, while Viewpoint Sound falls to 15-21 on the year.

Subway Field, Stonebridge: The Wolves and Defenders meet in an S-Line Derby match. The Defenders sit Stephanie after a rough outing last time, while Frosty is back to the bench for the Wolves. Bianca had an alright 288 for Southridge to start this game, leaving them a little vulnerable. Juno slammed 1048 for Stonebridge, rounding back into form to give the hosts a massive lead. Debby had 328 for the Defenders, but they remain far behind, plodding along at a sub-average pace. Hershey had a middling 250 for the Wolves, maintaining their lead well enough at the midway point. A massive upset by Stonebridge takes them to 14-25, while Southridge is dangling closer to a hungry pack behind them at 26-11.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Defenders are right back in action now, hosting the last-place Gems as they begin a season-ending two-game road trip. Bianca sits for the hosts, while the visitors bench Citrus. Rosalina couldn't get into a rhythm with deflections throughout the turn, and she succumbed at 71 for Diamond. Southridge has partially pulled out of a tailspin at 27-11, while Diamond dips to 12-31 ahead of their season finale later this week. The Defenders have clinched a spot in the Hutton Cup Playoffs, while the Gems will finish 12th in Select.

Dani did alright with 225 for the Meteors, capping their offense at 2773 in a probable win. Cobalt tried to make a rally with 519 for the Wolves, but they still suffered the loss at 1484. Viewpoint Sound rises to 16-21, while Stonebridge drops to 14-26 with the loss.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Sharks begin a road doubleheader here, sitting their captain Graham, while the Lumberjacks make a single stop at home with Diddley on the bench. Salmo made quite the rally with 823 for the Sharks, but they still lost with 1627. Summer shot back with 1105 for the Lumberjacks, icing their big win at 2745. Maplewood gets a massive win to go to 21-18, while Eastside drops to 18-19.

Stripes matched that damage, not the deficit, in hitting 192 for the Cascades, who lost with 1354. Eastside is up to 19-19, while Freedom loses control of second place in falling to 23-12.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Gems are the first team to end their season, sitting Cassandra in the finale, while the Spurs bench Spice in a game they fully expect to win. Rosalina had a modestly positive 330 for Diamond to lead off the scoring in the farewell match for the visitors. Yekaterina couldn't regain the lead for Victoria with a mere 164, her late-season struggles persisting into another game. Citrus tallied 281 more for the Gems, extending their lead a bit with the alright effort. A ball hopped over Sage's bat and ended her turn at 66 for the Spurs, causing them to lose more ground. Pedey chipped 352 for Diamond on his turn, providing a bit more padding for their lead. Wario knocked 672 for Victoria this time, making a dent in the deficit late in the game. Smokey flipped 554 for the Gems at the end, bringing their total score to 1517. Strawberry couldn't make the comeback with 409 for the Spurs, giving them the loss on a total of 1311. Sydney couldn't keep herself under control for Harrison on the opening turn, producing a meager 60 points. Bianca accepted 473 after a technical error emerged, electing to skip the replay opportunity as Southridge holds a solid lead. Twinkie II showed much more strength with 679 for the Specters, giving them the lead now. Debby smashed 1294 for the Defenders in response, extending their lead greatly at the halfway mark. Lexi fell at 128 for Harrison, a brutal drop-off that ends most hopes for a comeback. Stephanie had only 112 for Southridge, trying to hasten the end of the game as much as possible. Rudolph had a decent 359 for the Specters, but they took the loss at 1226. Hughbert rallied with 554 to give the Defenders a win at 2433. Southridge jumps to 28-11, while Harrison dips to 15-23 with the loss.

That's all for this week in Select. We'll be trying to get Elite and Premier done by Wednesday to buy some off time, which would then allow Tournament play to jump back in on Thursday.
