Elite will try to match Select's rate from yesterday, hoping to play their entire Week 18 slate in one day. We begin with...
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes open a somewhat busy week against the Spiders. The hosts have Fluffina on the bench, while the visitors sit Ted for standard rest. Shadow had a reasonable start with 467 for Web City on the opening turn. Smudge couldn't get going as well as her opposing captain, ending with a middling 219 for Infinity to lead things off. Sugar answered with 691 for the Spiders this time, extending their lead well on the secondary attack. Solaris collapsed at 96 for the Torpedoes, allowing the deficit to grow out of control at the midway mark. Jack had to fight a cluttered pitch, and he didn't do well with 101 for Web City, weakening their lead a bit. Shelley shot back with 289 for Infinity, hardly doing anything to fight the deficit. Shiny tallied another 597 for the Spiders at the end of the game, closing their scoring at 1856. Mr. Snowman tried to pull the Torpedoes back, but his 745 left them short at a total of 1349 in the loss. Web City rises to 16-18, while Infinity drops to 22-14.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers try to keep moving up with Watermelon resting, while the Nighthawks give a faltering Cheddar another game off. Peach had a solid start with 385 for North Modernistic, giving them a decent first look at the lead. Boots couldn't get clear of deflection for Pearl, falling at 252 as the hosts will trail early on. Gal answered with 487 for the Nighthawks, extending their lead nicely on a strong second attack. Neopolitan launched 1018 for the Surfers to give them the lead at the halfway mark with an explosive rally. B. Chapman fell with 160 for North Modernistic, a poor turn hurting their chances of a comeback now. Bright essentially matched that turn with 159 for Pearl, keeping the hosts ahead by a decent margin. Luigi had a modest 298 for the Nighthawks, not enough to avoid the loss at 1330. Beth had a simple 405 for the Surfers, securing their win at 1834. Pearl is up to 19-17, while North Modernistic drops to 11-26.
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows are back home and sitting Wild Thing for performance reasons, while Smudge takes rest in this one-off road game for the Torpedoes. A deflection doomed Fluffina quickly in her lead-off turn, ending on a pathetic 28 points for Infinity. Sally got a bit distracted on one of her later swings, ending at 231 as it bounced up and out of play for Archtown. Solaris had only 204 for the Torpedoes on his turn, just barely covering the deficit. Ruby countered with 482 for the Arrows, giving them a more confident lead the second time around. Shelley replied with 392 for Infinity, unable to meet the deficit this time. Sleepy B. chopped a crisp 647 for Archtown this time, extending their lead greatly late in the game. Mr. Snowman botched the comeback effort with only 48 for the Torpedoes, leaving them to lose at 672, with the team relatively falling apart. Dusky kept her turn subdued with 306 for the Arrows, securing their win at 1666. Archtown gets an upset victory to go to 11-22, while Infinity sinks to 22-15, closer and closer to a pack of teams just below them.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Sally's rough play recently earns her a game off as the Arrows begin a five-game road trip, while Dewey will sit for the Waves for performance reasons. Ruby gathered a decent 354 for Archtown in a rare-lead off appearance for the visiting captain. Snuggle hit a mediocre 224 in response for Oceanside, putting the hosts at an early deficit. Sleepy B. countered with 552 for the Arrows, lifting them farther ahead with a productive turn. Celestia had 336 for the Waves, an acceptable but weaker attack that sees the hosts' deficit grow again. Dusky matched that with 336 for Archtown on her turn, keeping the lead steady. Josie shot back with 450 for Oceanside, recovering some of the deficit ahead of the final players' turns. Wild Thing kept the Arrows steady with another 336, bringing their total score to 1578. Jason V. collapsed with a meager 92 for the Waves, leaving them at 1102 in the loss. Archtown gets up to 12-22, while Oceanside slips to 20-17.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes sit Solaris in their third and final game this week, while the visiting Tradewinds have Lionel on the bench for this meeting. Tigerette slapped 441 for Commerce to get them off to a good start in the game. Smudge replied with 603 for Infinity on her turn, giving the hosts a lead after the first turn. Taylor had the pace to make an impact for the Tradewinds, but she only picked up 371 when a bad swing ended her turn a bit early. Fluffina fought it off with 395 for the Torpedoes, losing a lot of pace before falling. Rosemary couldn't keep her swings down long enough for Commerce, ending on a paltry 99. Shelley flicked 307 for Infinity to make a modest addition to the lead ahead of the final players' turns. Niki tried to rally, but her 285 left the Tradewinds at a losing total of 1196. Mr. Snowman capped the Torpedoes win with an emphatic 1010, giving them a total of 2315. Infinity is up to 23-15 now, while Commerce drops another game to fall to 13-17.
IBM Nighthawks Nest, North Modernistic: The Nighthawks now get a chance to host the Surfers. Boots takes a seat for the Surfers now, while the Nighthawks have B. Chapman on the bench. Watermelon lifted 719 for Pearl, an excellent start from the co-captain on the first turn. Peach got about half of it back with 376 for North Modernistic, who will trail from the start. Neopolitan did even better for the Surfers, extending their lead with a big 801. Cheddar grabbed 253 for the Nighthawks, unable to make a move to help them catch up halfway through the game. Bright shot back with 298 for Pearl, a solid effort to keep their lead steady for now. Gal made a big push with 639 for North Modernistic, cutting into the deficit with her great showing. Beth added 331 at the end for the Surfers, giving them a final score of 2149. Luigi managed only 207 for the Nighthawks, putting their losing total at 1475. Pearl is up to 20-17, while North Modernistic dips to 11-27.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union welcome the Tradewinds in a minor Urban rivalry match. Daisy sits for the hosts, while Rosemary takes the bench for the visitors. Tigerette pummeled 705 right away for Commerce, giving them a big lead early on. Ms. Puppy made a good response with 481 for Modernistic, but they will trail initially. Taylor shot back with 535 for the Tradewinds, a strong second attack to keep the visitors in control of the game. Puff I had the makings of a good counterattack before lifting a ball too high, ending at 352 as the Union lose ground. Lionel returned to action in poor form for Commerce, falling at 55 points as he suffered an early deflection. Kodiak made a little progress with 367 for Modernistic, but they'll have to make a move with a player each to go. Niki gathered an alright 248 for the Tradewinds, leaving them at a final score of 1543, far from a safe total. Chimpy thought he had settled a backhand well, but it hopped onto his wicket and downed him at 169, leaving the Union to lose with 1369. Commerce is now at 14-17, while Modernistic sinks to 12-26.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders' fight to stay in Elite sees them sit a slumping Jack when they host the first-place Sharpshooters, who put Missy on their bench this time. Chris had a decent 322 for Capital City to get things started at a lower pace than usual. Shadow shot back with 529 for Web City, using a better pace to give the hosts a critical early lead. Sprinkles couldn't get the Sharpshooters back on track, her 226 barely covering the deficit presented to the visitors. Ted matched the damage with 265 for the Spiders, keeping the lead steady midway through the game. Lorde carried Capital City ahead with 671 on her turn, making things interesting now. Sugar reclaimed 399 for Web City, making it a very close game with a player each to go. Pauline got taken out by an unfortunate deflection at 36 points, leaving the Sharpshooters exposed at 1255. Shiny popped 451 for the Spiders, breezing ahead for the win with a total of 1644. Web City rises to 17-18, while Capital City takes a step back to 26-6.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds return home, and will have Niki on the bench in a curious roster choice, while the Hummingbirds sit their captain Princess to end a three-game road trip. Leandra tried to make a play on her backhand, but it went a bit too high and stopped her at only 32 points for Tysini. Tigerette turned a questionable false start call into 295 points for Commerce for the early lead. Charli sliced 416 for the Hummingbirds, giving them a more substantial lead this time. Taylor stumbled with 135 for the Tradewinds, allowing the score to get close at the midway mark. Brownie faltered a bit at 272 for Tysini, wasting a chance to really pressure their hosts with an attack. Lionel picked up 376 for Commerce, edging them ahead before the final players step up to bat. Paps exploded for 1037 for the Hummingbirds at the end, setting their final score at 1757. Rosemary couldn't save the day, her pace lacking as she scored 330 to give the Tradewinds a loss at 1136. Tysini strikes big before heading home, rising to 20-15, while Commerce slips to 14-18, still chasing the last safe spot.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds get a big meeting with the Flames here. The visitors sit Hannah in this appearance, while the hosts put Brownie on the bench. Crystal started with 543 for Queens, an aggressive opening turn from the captain. Princess had only 290 in response for Tysini, getting lucky to earn a false start replay before failing to match the opposition on the second try. Violetta posted a pathetic 87 for the Flames, a very unusual weak effort from the sophomore. Leandra made progress with 259 for the Hummingbirds, but they remain behind at the halfway mark. Briana had a jittery swing during her turn, which ended it at 108 as Queens' lead is fully destabilized. Charli went with pace to gather 605 for Tysini, giving them a clear lead late in the game. Kyle pulled back with 670 for the Flames, forcing the hosts to respond to a final score of 1408. Paps hammered 1053 for the Hummingbirds this time, confirming their victory at 2207 with another spectacular run. Tysini jumps again to 21-15, while Queens steps back at 19-18.
Nike Field, Commerce: A massively important match takes place in this season series finale between the Tradewinds and Spiders. Ted sits for the visitors, while Taylor takes the bench for the hosts. Shadow couldn't rise to the occasion with 54 points for Web City in an ugly start. Tigerette seized the advantage with 616 for Commerce in a strong first turn for the hosts. Sugar put in a firm 559 for the Spiders in response, trying to keep them competitive despite the deficit. Lionel held on to collect 384 for the Tradewinds, allowing their lead to slip but not crumble at the halfway mark. Jack pulled up with 504 for Web City, covering the deficit on the strong push. Rosemary gathered 337 for Commerce, reclaiming a smaller lead as the game nears its end. Shiny went off with 782 for the Spiders, stunning the crowd as the visitors close their scoring at 1899. Niki picked up 595 for the Tradewinds in response, leaving them at a total of 1932 in a narrow victory. Commerce holds the tiebreaker, rising to 15-18 while Web City falls to 17-19. Should the teams tie in the standings, a 3-1 season series win puts Commerce ahead.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Union give Kodiak some rest in the Week 18 Elite finale, while the Pirates give Steven another game off as the odd-man out in a high-scoring offense. Delila ripped 723 for Atlantic right away, putting the visitors well ahead on the opening turn. Ms. Puppy couldn't get a clean rhythm going for Modernistic, instead falling at a poor 64. Isabella tacked on 566 for the Pirates on the second attack, extending their lead nicely. Daisy slipped up at a mere 96 for the Union, allowing the game to get even more out of hand. Klaus had a solid 401 for Atlantic on this turn, keeping their lead strong. Puff I managed just 87 for Modernistic, keeping their responses meek at best. Max tapped a simple 133 to give the Pirates a total of 1823. Chimpy softened the defeat a bit with 447, but the Union still lost badly at 694. Atlantic jumps to 20-15, while Modernistic sits at 12-27.
That's all for Elite this week. We'll try to make it three-for-three in divisions and days tomorrow with Premier action.
