Hutton Cup - Semifinals, Games 1-3

The Hutton Cup Semifinals are here, a two-day travel-intensive festivity to determine which teams will battle it out for the ultimate prize in UPCL Cricket. We begin with game 1 in...

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates start the series with Max on the bench, while his sister Fluffina takes rest for the Torpedoes for the first time in the postseason. Smudge could have been better for Infinity at the start, falling at 302 points. Delila showed off fantastic pace for Atlantic on their first turn, smashing 958 to put them well ahead initially. Solaris did alright with 312 for the Torpedoes, but that wasn't enough to cover the deficit at this time. Isabella showed some weakness with 232 for the Pirates, causing their lead to shrink mildly at the halfway mark. Shelley fired back with 639 for Infinity, pretty much meeting the deficit with such a turn. Steven restored a smaller lead for Atlantic with 337 on his turn, keeping them ahead with a player each to go. Mr. Snowman demanded a quick restart after what he thought was a false start, but the judge ruled him out on 21 points, causing the Torpedoes to lose at 1274. Klaus struck another 620 to ice the Pirates win at 2147. Atlantic is up 1-0 in the series

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts knocked off the Elite champions to get here, and now sit Puff II, while the Select champion Crowns have Cassie on the bench against the Premier winners. Kayla produced a reasonable 400 to begin the game in good form for Royal. Patches had a great pace going, but a couple of subtle deflections tore her down before she ended on 361 for Boston. Jake crashed out at 196 for the Crowns on a poor second attack that weakens their lead. Gradley made a number of small touches to keep a low-pace turn going long enough to take 615, which gives the Swifts a lead. Jeremias refused to let Royal go quietly, his 563 helping them to cover the deficit this time. Sweetheart did even better with 911 for Boston, carrying them far ahead going into the final players' turns. Nightfur lined 729 for the Crowns on her turn, giving them a total of 1888 in a likely loss, as this only put them ahead by one point. Ice Cream poked 320 at the end for the Swifts, formally claiming the win for them at 2207. Boston leads the series 1-0 after the productive game 1 win.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates will give Isabella rest in game 2 after a mediocre effort, while the Torpedoes make a more aggressive move to sit Mr. Snowman. Smudge pounded 631 for Infinity this time, establishing them pretty well with the good performance. Delila didn't make an improvement from game 1, but she remained strong carving out 951 for Atlantic to take the early lead. Fluffina answered her mother's attack with 624 for the Torpedoes, restoring the visitors to a leading position. Steven regained a lead for the Pirates with 450, but they've lost some buffer midway through the game. Solaris kept the pressure on with 480 for Infinity on his firm turn. Klaus slipped up at 122 for Atlantic, causing them to fall behind late in the game. Shelley tapped 306 for the Torpedoes at the end, putting them at a final score of 2041, far from officially safe. Max couldn't block a fast offering that took him out at 359, leaving the Pirates at a loss with 1882. The two teams head southwest to Infinity tied at 1 game apiece.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts give Patches her rest early in the series, sitting her in game 2, while the visiting Crowns try to make up for their first loss by sitting Jake. Kayla set the tone again with 560 for Royal, giving them a sizable lead to begin the game. Puff II answered with 681 for Boston on their first attack, good for the early lead. Jeremias stumbled at 192 for the Crowns, narrowly covering the deficit despite the poor turn. Gradley again managed to turn a sloppy start into a good turn, posting 599 to extend the Swifts' lead halfway through the game. Nightfur had a jittery swing that downed her at 160 for Royal, causing the visitors to fall into a deeper deficit. Sweetheart did well in response with 639 for Boston, boosting their lead one more time. Cassie had no answer for the Crowns with 78, leaving them in a loss at 990. Ice Cream sent a message with a pacey 509 for the Swifts at the end, icing their win at 2428. Boston holds a 2-0 series lead, with game 3 coming up next after a short trip to Royal.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Crowns return Cassie to the bench after coming home, while the visiting Swifts give leading MVP candidate Gradley game 3 off in a show of confidence. Patches didn't ease up at all in her return to action with 734 for Boston. Kayla answered with a vicious and pacey 910 for Royal, giving them the initial lead by a noticeable margin. Puff II had a high swing for the Swifts that stalled her at 321, just covering the deficit on the weaker second attack. Jake fought it off with 445 for the Crowns, adding a little more their lead at the midway mark. Sweetheart did not feel particularly confident for Boston, falling at 113 in a rather drab turn from the veteran. Jeremias did worse with only 21 for Royal, jeopardizing their lead with the ugly turn. Ice Cream had 272 for the Swifts this time, giving them a total of 1440 to force the hosts into a response. Nightfur came through with 504 for the Crowns, capping the win at 1880. Royal has gotten on the board in the series, but Boston remains ahead 2-1 ahead of tomorrow's action.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes will try to get ahead with Mr. Snowman sitting out game 3, while Klaus is on the bench for the Pirates after a poor turn. Delila didn't have the best pace for Atlantic, but she still churned 537 to give the visitors something to build on later. Smudge had a missed swing that knocked her out at 354 for Infinity, putting the hosts behind initially. Isabella chipped 375 to keep the Pirates lead steady on a decent second attack. Fluffina made very small progress for the Torpedoes with 387, chipping at the deficit in the middle of the game. Steven faltered at 240 for Atlantic, weakening their lead a bit more under intense pressure. Solaris went off with 711 for Infinity, carrying them into the lead as the final players step up to bat. Max showed skills with a cobra-like backhand to keep his turn going, but he still fell at 281 as the Pirates lose with 1433. Shelley took 336 for the Torpedoes, showing a bit of fatigue despite capping her side's win at 1788. Infinity took advantage of being at home to gain a 2-1 series lead.

The Semifinals will conclude tomorrow with 4 to 8 games, depending on the flow of the series. A reminder: Tournament play is likely cancelled throughout this week.
