Tournament 2018 - Round 2 Day 19

A full day of Tournament play is scheduled for this afternoon, beginning with...

FedEx Arena, Eastside: Chelsea v. Lorde. A smart veteran takes on a less experienced star in 9-ball with the silver cue. Eastside's Chelsea nearly got the 9 on the break, blocked by the 5. Capital City's Lorde had a couple of decent shots in game 1, but Chelsea won on a three-ball run-out when she deflected the cue off the 3 to tap the 9 into the top right, good for a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Chelsea took a dominant share of offense in game 2, making a three-ball run from the break and a four-ball run-out to beat the Sharpshooters' Lorde at the end. Chelsea secured the series with a miss on the 9 on her cut toward the top right, but in such a way that kicked the target ball to the top left to go ahead 2-0 in the series. Lorde looked much better in game 3, creating a six-ball run to nearly pick up the win, but Chelsea missed the 7 at the top left in such a way that it deflected to pot the 9 at the top right. Chelsea's somewhat accidental success helped her earn a 3-0 series sweep to gain a hosting spot in the third round.

Apple Center, Todavía: Anton v. Sleepy B. A rookie and a star collide for a series of 7-ball with the blue cue. Todavía's Anton wasted no time in turning game 1 into a 1-0 series lead, driving the 7 to the bottom side off the break in a thundering success to set Archtown's Sleepy B. back from the start. The Arrows' Sleepy B. had a chance to put up more of a fight in game 2, but appeared very timid on offense and couldn't muster much of an attack. Her kick on the 6 was good, but the Stills' Anton still had to make the 7 from ball-in-hand for the win, giving him a 2-0 series lead. Anton had some decent shots in game 3, but Sleepy B. would find a way to avoid the sweep when she potted the 3-7 combination to the top right at the end. Sleepy B.'s win made a 2-1 series win for Anton, who will host the Oceanside Waves' Josie in a Coastal Derby in the third round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Briana Livilotti. A pair of rookies are next to meet in 10-ball with the blue cue. Terrace City's Quincy had some positive play in game 1, but he got a lot of his offense from scratches by Queens' Briana. Late in the game, Briana missed on the 7, and Quincy took the last two shots for the win and a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 saw much slower offense between the players, although the Flames' Briana certainly performed more cleanly. Briana's only mistake was missing a short-range shot on the 10 at the bottom right, which Quincy tapped in on his second try to take the win for a 2-0 lead in the series. Quincy tried to keep his play consistent in game 3, but he struggled at the end, and Briana took the chance to pick up the win to avoid getting swept. Quincy settled for a 2-1 series win to put him into round three.

Google Hall, Modernistic: Ms. Puppy v. Gal Gadot. A bitter Urban rivalry is renewed in 12-ball with the silver cue. North Modernistic's Gal started well in game 1, and received a wild-card ball from Modernistic's Ms. Puppy at one point. Gal soon gave that wild-card ball back, and Ms. Puppy made a pair of shots after that to claim the win and a 1-0 series lead in a nice comeback. The Union's Ms. Puppy gave away a wild-card ball again in game 2, and this time her comeback fell short, as the Nighthawks' Gal navigated the tricky game a bit more quickly. Gal took her last shot after Ms. Puppy missed contact on an awkward kick attempt, tying the series at 1 as Gal took the win. Game 3 went much faster, with Gal taking two balls from the break. Three-ball runs were the preferred method of attack, as Ms. Puppy had a pair of them to overwhelm Gal in two turns for the win and 2-1 series win. Ms. Puppy's fast attack puts her in the third round, where she'll host the Tysini Hummingbirds' Leandra.

GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Hughbert v. Dani. The blue cue takes its turn in another 12-ball series. Viewpoint Sound's Dani had a four-ball run on her first turn in game 1, which Southridge's Hughbert answered with a three-ball run. Dani intentionally gave Hughbert a wild-card ball, but he couldn't complete the game, and Dani made her last ball for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Dani gave away a wild-card ball to the Defenders' Hughbert on the break, and eventually Hughbert found a four-ball run to get onto his last ball. The Meteors' Dani had done enough to counter this, and she executed a crafty three-ball run-out to snatch the win away, securing the series at 2-0. Dani had a quick attack in game 2, and then used ball-in-hand that she received from Hughbert to get herself set up for a second burst. Hughbert nearly caught up on his next turn with a nice run, but Dani converted her last two shots for the win and a 3-0 series sweep. Dani will be the host in her third round series.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Delila v. Goatee. Best friends and club-mates meet in 9-ball with the red cue. Atlantic's Delila picked up the game 1 win after starting with a four-ball run from the break and taking the 6 and 9 individually after Westside's Goatee failed to assemble a run. Delila holds a 1-0 lead in the series. The Rockers' Goatee came up clutch in a back-and-forth game 2 that saw the best sequence at the start when the Pirates' Delila made a pair on the break. Neither player could get a true run going, and Delila's miss on the 9 set Goatee up for a slip shot to the top left that helped the visitor tie the series at 1. Delila seemed to have the better of the offense in game 3, but she couldn't stop Goatee from making the 7 and then pulling off a deflected shot on the 8 to drive the 9 to the bottom right. Goatee's trick play gave her a 2-1 series win, and she will be hosting the Stonebridge Wolves' Vladimir in the third round.

Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Noelle v. Katharine McPhee. The blue cue is back in action for this series of 10-ball. Game 1 saw both players struggle a bit, but no shot was worse than the miss Whitewater's Katharine had on the 7-10 combination, which she didn't even make contact for. Central's Noelle took the ball-in-hand and converted the shot for a win and a 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Katharine reeled for the early part of game 2, watching the Warriors' Noelle build her attack up. Katharine responded on a three-ball run later in the game, but she missed the 10, and Noelle cleaned it up for the win, clinching the series at 2-0. Noelle had her best run, a five-ball stretch late in game 3, but she couldn't complete the effort as the 10 rattled out of the bottom left. Katharine took it instead, salvaging a win from Noelle's 2-1 series win. Noelle will visit the Capital City Sharpshooters' Sprinkles in the third round.

Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Dreamy v. Strut. Veterans well entrenched with their teams clash in 12-ball with the silver cue. Swordpoint's Dreamy had a fantastic start to game 1 with a four-ball run, which was offset slightly by her own scratch and Golden's Strut also making a run. Dreamy had better positioning late in the game, and made a three-ball run-out to grab the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Dreamy cleared about half of the solids on the game 2 break, and while the Pilots' Strut looked good on the counterattack, he quickly scratched to destroy his positioning. Dreamy would make a three-ball run-out in the end, taking the win to secure the series at 2-0. Dreamy had another good performance in game 3, making a stripe on the break and protecting some difficult shooting angles until she could successfully pot them, winning while Strut had two balls left on the table. Dreamy took the series in a 3-0 sweep, and she'll host another series in the third round.

Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Ice Cream v. Dewey. Another 12-ball series is set to be played with the red cue. Boston's Ice Cream made a ball on the break, but gave Oceanside's Dewey a wild-card ball while scratching on her second shot. Dewey made a three-ball run, and then took his last pair of shots on his second turn, taking an easy win despite Ice Cream's four-ball run to rally back. Dewey is up 1-0 in the series. The Swifts' Ice Cream took advantage of the Waves' Dewey making a nearly identical mistake to the one she made in game 1. Dewey had a ball in, but gave away a wild-card ball, eventually sparking a couple of short runs as Ice Cream worked her way to a win that Dewey could not prevent. The series is tied at 1. Dewey had a promising attack early in game 3, but it unraveled, and Ice Cream caught up to engage in a tough battle for the rest of the game. Ice Cream got the better of Dewey in the end, winning the game and the series 2-1 to earn her spot in the third round.

Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Rosemary. The silver cue ends its day with another Industrial Derby, this one in 15-ball. Whitewater's Twinkie III paced a lot of the offense early in game 1, but Commerce's Rosemary pushed back a bit toward the end of the game. Twinkie III nearly made the 13-15 combination, but it worked out because Rosemary couldn't tap the 15 into the top right, and Twinkie III did to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was fought in close quarters near the rack's starting point. The Shores' Twinkie III carried the early offense, but the Tradewinds' Rosemary took the win with a four-ball run-out capped by a 9-15 combination to the bottom right, tying the series at 1. Twinkie III had a five-ball run and a three-ball run on her first two turns of game 3, dominating the early offense, but Rosemary took a five-ball run and left Twinkie III with a tough shot on the 15. Twinkie III failed to make contact, and Rosemary took the game from ball-in-hand for the 2-1 series win. Rosemary will host the Web City Spiders captain Shadow in round three.

Cisco Arena, Tysini: Leandra v. Cheddar. After a break, two veterans battle in Accuracy with the blue cue. North Modernistic's Cheddar struggled early in game 1, but she got herself together at the end, inducing a series of misses by Tysini's Leandra. Cheddar emerged with a 3-4 win in this game, good for a 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Cheddar remained strong until late in game 2, watching her lead crumble as the Hummingbirds' Leandra used great defense to create a tied game. Cheddar did make a ball on the overtime break, but she misused her stick on her second shot, and Leandra converted a ball as a formality to win 3-4, tying the series at 1. Game 3 went very similarly, as Leandra made a pair of balls on the break. Cheddar had a late lead but couldn't make it hold, sending this game to overtime as well. Leandra made a ball to the pocket behind where she took the overtime break, and Cheddar couldn't convert anything, with Leandra winning 3-4 again. Leandra won the series 2-1, and will visit the Maplewood Lumberjacks' Diddley in the third round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Misty v. Wario. Today's final series is also in Accuracy, with the red cue this time. Westside's Misty made two balls on the break and got Victoria's Wario to scratch on his first shot. The two players stayed pretty even throughout the rest of game 1, with Misty briefly falling into a tie before Wario missed again to produce the 1-2 final that gives Misty a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 flew by, as the Rockers' Misty made a ball on the break, the Spurs' Wario had a double-pot, and nobody missed until the end. Wario's last-shot advantage turned out to be worthless, as he missed on the final ball, and Misty converted it to win 0-1, clinching the series at 2-0. Misty took game 3 off from an effort standpoint, allowing Wario to cruise to a 1-6 win as Misty mailed in the performance. Misty did win the series 2-1, and will host Oceanside Waves rookie Josie in the third round.

Today's action is done. Tomorrow may only see Tournament play as we accommodate a shorter time frame to do league activities.
