The second week of Tournament play is scheduled to wrap up today. First on the docket...
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Chicky Phil v. Mitchell. The red cue is up to play Accuracy to start the day. Web City's Chicky Phil scratched on the game 1 break but didn't foul again, while Victoria's Mitchell missed a couple of shots to blow his lead. Chicky Phil took the 1-2 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Chicky Phil trailed after a scratch in game 2, but he was able to get the Spurs' Mitchell to miss on the last ball. Overtime was slow-going, with Chicky Phil eventually winning 3-4 to clinch the series at 2-0. With game 3 tied on the final ball, Mitchell picked an awful time to have a miscue, which allowed Chicky Phil to win the game 2-3, taking the series in a 3-0 sweep. Chicky Phil is off to the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Quincy v. Cobalt. Club-mates battle in 9-ball with the silver cue. Terrace City's Quincy took his time getting a handle on his shots in swampy conditions, but he was able to pot the last pair of balls for the 1-0 series lead over Stonebridge's Cobalt, who didn't find his way easily in game 1. The Wolves' Cobalt didn't do a whole lot better in game 2, but the Knights' Quincy did much worse with a late scratch. Cobalt then made the final pair of balls to get the win, tying the series at 1. Runs still failed to develop in game 3, so it was a number of short and choppy turns that allowed Quincy to poke the 9 to the top left for the win. Quincy's 2-1 series win earns him a spot in the second round.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Solaris v. Oreo. The blue cue cycles in for a look in 10-ball. Commerce's Solaris had a decent game 1 performance, making four balls over his last two turns to defeat Terrace City's Oreo, whose miss on the 7 caused the result. Solaris leads the series at 1-0. The Knights' Oreo didn't slow down any in game 2, attacking brilliantly at the end after the Tradewinds' Solaris failed to gain control. Oreo used a five-ball run-out to pick up the win, tying the series at 1 with a strong attack. Solaris used a perfect deflection off the 4 to pot the 10 at the top right to win game 3, leaving Oreo with no way to respond to the early finish. Solaris won the series 2-1 and advances to round two.
Volkswagen Stadium Events Center, Viewpoint Sound: Nibbles v. Taylor M. A third-year and a rookie clash in 13-ball with the red cue. Viewpoint Sound's Nibbles had the advantage in game 1 until a scratch, which bought Eastside's Taylor M. enough time to pull ahead and earn the win. Taylor M. takes a 1-0 series lead. The Sharks' Taylor M. started with a pair of balls early in game 2, but the Meteors' Nibbles pulled ahead in the middle of the game. Nibbles just couldn't line up at the top right, and that gave Taylor M. time to piece together a three-ball run-out for the win and 2-0 series lead. Nibbles didn't get a chance to apply pressure on Taylor M., as the latter made a four-ball run on her second turn of game 3. She took her time with the finish, but did get the win for a 3-0 series sweep. Taylor M. will visit the Web City Spiders' Avril in the second round.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Rosemary v. Kodiak. Urban rivals also go at it in 13-ball, this time with the blue cue. Modernistic's Kodiak found a smooth six-ball run in game 1, and it paced his attack. Commerce's Rosemary couldn't get her shots sorted out before Kodiak made the 8 to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Union's Kodiak was in good shape to take game 2 as well, but he faltered too much on the 8. The Tradewinds' Rosemary stormed back, winning on a three-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Kodiak erupted on a four-ball run in game 3, which Rosemary answered with a three-ball run. Neither player had great positioning, but Kodiak pulled off a miracle kick to tap the 7 to the top side, and he converted the 8 for the win to take the series 2-1. Kodiak advances to round two.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Lexi v. Spirit. The silver cue takes a spin in 7-ball. Harrison's Lexi went off with some good shots early on and a pair at the end of game 1, answering a pair of shots from Lighton's Spirit. Lexi's strong finish gave her a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 was fairly even, but when the Prestige's Spirit missed a soft look at the 7 to the top right, the Specters' Lexi set herself apart with a tap-in for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Lexi began game 3 on a four-ball run, but the 5 proved difficult for her. Spirit would finish up on a pair of shots for the win, leaving Lexi ahead 2-1 in the series. Lexi will move on to the second round.
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Mr. Snowman v. Beth. The silver cue remains in action for this 10-ball series. Infinity's Mr. Snowman had the better of the play in game 1, but he left the 10 up at the top right, and Pearl's Beth tapped it in for the 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Beth was strong at the start and the end of game 2, ending on a three-ball run-out to secure a 2-0 series lead over the Torpedoes' Mr. Snowman, who had a little offense but not enough to make an impact. Mr. Snowman had a somewhat chaotic attack in game 3, but it didn't stop Beth from poking the 10 down at the end to earn the 3-0 series sweep. Beth will take on the Queens Flames' Briana in the second round.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Beth. The visitor makes a doubleheader of her road trip, playing Accuracy with the blue cue this time. Pearl's Beth kept her winning ways going in game 1, recording a 2-5 victory over Whitewater's Twinkie III in a battle start started well and got sloppy towards the end. Beth leads the series 1-0. Game 2 saw the Surfers' Beth have her luck run out, as the Shores' Twinkie III grabbed a lead and made it stick at 4-5 despite an awful ending. The series is tied at 1. Beth had a chance to keep things close in game 3, but she fell apart with multiple misses. Twinkie III again coasted to the win at 3-5, taking the series to get into the second round.
McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Delila v. Dusky. The A-Line Derby is on with this 15-ball series using the blue cue. Atlantic's Delila had a pacey attack in game 1 at first, but needed a deflection to win early after shots became less favorable. Archtown's Dusky failed to muster much offense at all as Delila took the 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Delila looked flustered for much of the second half of game 2, while the Arrows' Dusky locked herself in a bit better to snag the win, which tied the series at 1 after some chaotic shooting. Game 3 didn't feature any better form for either of the players, but Delila put it away quickly with a banked 7-15 combination to the top left to clinch the series at 2-1 over Dusky. Delila will meet Shelley of the Infinity Torpedoes in the second round.
Cisco Arena, Tysini: Charli v. Stephanie. The red cue is back in for a 9-ball series. Tysini's Charli started well and finished better, countering a pair from Southridge's Stephanie with a four-ball run-out. Charli's strong finish gave her a 1-0 series lead. The Hummingbirds' Charli started game 2 with a five-ball run from the break, but after a contested middle of the game, the Defenders' Stephanie emerged victorious on a three-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Stephanie had a three-ball run from the break and made another pair late, but Stephanie missed on the 9. Charli tapped it into the top right to poach the win and the 2-1 series win that sends her to the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Hoppy v. Jasmine. The blue cue returns for a series in Accuracy. Archtown's Hoppy refused to miss in game 1, completing a perfect 0-4 win as Freedom's Jasmine faltered near the end. Hoppy leads the series 1-0. The Arrows' Hoppy scratched on the break in game 2, but the Cascades' Jasmine struggled in the middle of the game. Hoppy still fell into a tie to force overtime, but Jasmine's overtime break was a disaster, and Hoppy potted a ball for the 3-4 win to clinch the series at 2-0. Jasmine did just enough in game 3 to keep Hoppy from the sweep, forcing overtime and then burying her only shot to win 3-4. Hoppy still won the series 2-1 to get to the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Sparkles v. Princess. More Accuracy with the blue cue awaits. Golden's Sparkles scratched on the break in game 1, but managed to keep an even game through regulation. Viewpoint Sound's Princess had an empty overtime break, and Sparkles got lucky to win it there by a 2-3 score for the 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Sparkles failed twice to force overtime by missing on the last ball, allowing Princess to tap it in at the bottom left to get the 2-3 win. Princess' victory tied the series at 1. Princess held a lead multiple times in game 3, but she couldn't make it stand after a miss in overtime gave Sparkles the 3-4 win. Sparkles' two overtime wins put her through to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Strawberry v. Ice Cream. The red cue administers a 10-ball series between club-mates. Victoria's Strawberry was shaky in game 1, particularly with a late scratch that allowed Boston's Ice Cream to make the last two balls for the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Ice Cream continued her strong play in game 2, firing off a three-ball run-out with an 8-10 combination to the top right to defeat the Spurs' Strawberry. The win secured the series at 2-0 for Ice Cream. Game 3 saw Ice Cream scratched on the break, but she answered Strawberry's four-ball run with a three-ball run of her own to win the game and earn the 3-0 series sweep. Ice Cream will go into the second round.
UPS Hall, Maplewood: Diddley v. Cleo. The final series of the day is in 15-ball with the silver cue between Northeastern rivals. Maplewood's Diddley had the better of offense in game 1 against Everton's Cleo, and he made it count with a pair of shots at the end for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Cleo had appeared to make some progress late in game 2, but it was all wasted when the Lumberjacks' Diddley double-potted the 10 to the bottom left and the 15 to the top right for the win. Diddley secured the series at 2-0 with the win. Diddley again paced the attack in game 3, but Cleo still had a chance to win before she missed a hard cut on the 15. Diddley tapped it in for the win, sweeping the series 3-0 to get to a second round matchup with Jason V. of the Oceanside Waves.
Premier is scheduled for the weekend and maybe Monday, while Tournament play will resume Monday.
