We're back for another weekend with games, and if we're lucky next week will get a quick start with the extended weekend. We begin with...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: These Northeastern rivals meet again in 30 games for the return match later this week. Shadow began with a big 859 for Web City, continuing to confirm his status as an elite captain. Sally chopped her way to 384 for Archtown, putting a dent in the deficit. Rainmane lined 538 to keep the Spiders firmly in control of the game. Sleepy B. claimed 331 for the Arrows, and upon review, she got away with playing on after a technical error. Sugar had just 98 for Web City, leaving them a bit vulnerable as regression has come over her. Ruby took Archtown to a lead by slugging 874, setting up a close finish. Shiny squandered her replay effort with only 96 for the Spiders, and while she forced a response, 1591 is likely going to be a losing total for the visitors. Dusky buried them with 643 individually for 2232 total, giving the Arrows a much-needed division win. Archtown is up to 15-20, snapping a six-game losing streak, while Web City is 21-22, with a four-game losing streak going.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates look to complete a sweep that started by spoiling the Monarchs' home opener. Panda had only 132 for Southern in a poor opener. Delila easily covered that and charged with 755 to give Atlantic a big lead. Shannon totally wasted her replay turn, scoring just 49 for the Monarchs as they appear to return to losing ways. Amber had a lackluster 145 for the Pirates in response. Kirstin made Southern look a bit better, scoring 328 as they try to catch up. Americus tapped 240 for Atlantic, adding a little more to their lead in the late stages of the game. Nicole had 296 for the Monarchs, bringing them to a final of 805 in another low-scoring loss. Dominic had a middling 271 to bring the Pirates to 1411 for the win. Atlantic is up to 22-18, while Southern is down to 12-36, well on their way to finishing last in the league.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Swifts are looking for a sweep against the road-weary Meteors. Mr. Snowman slammed 607 for Viewpoint Sound, giving them a nice start. Patches rejected 276 for an optional replay, which she butchered and had just 81 for Boston to put them way behind. Mams watched a ball go just out of reach on her backhand, ending her turn at 147 for the Meteors. Puff II got jammed at 57 for the Swifts, who are at high risk of taking a bad loss. Zach collected a nice 431 to give Viewpoint Sound a probably untouchable lead. Gradley made a big rally with 840 for Boston, challenging the notion of an untouchable lead as the hosts are back in range. Kelly left the door open, struggling with 138 for the Meteors to give them a reachable final of 1323. Sweetheart saved the day with 464 for the Swifts, snapping their four-game losing streak at home as they finish on 1442. Boston sits at 30-16 now, while Viewpoint Sound is at a disappointing 16-24, with a seven-game losing streak on the road weighing them down.
Capital City SuperCenter: The Sharpshooters won on the road against the Flames two weeks ago and look to sweep a Center Division rival here. Crystal had only 231 to begin the game for Queens in meek fashion. Chris stumbled with only 72 for Capital City. Kayla didn't produce much more with 266 for the Flames, as the game remains low scoring. Missy popped a ball up and ended with a measly 48 for the Sharpshooters, who don't seem to want this game. Max pummeled 719 for Queens, pulling them well ahead with the big effort. Sprinkles countered with 907 for Capital City, putting them back in range with the final players stepping up to bat. Paige took a bad swing and ended with 128 for the Flames, giving them a final of 1344. Dani's 199 was not enough for the Sharpshooters, and they lost with 1226. Queens successfully spoiled a great opportunity for Capital City, with the former now at 14-28 and the latter at 19-24.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: This is the first meeting for this fixture in the Generations Derby. Valencia had a bit of an odd swing to end her turn going the wrong way, but with 540 to give Golden a solid base. Twilight had a reasonable 352 for Central, but they will trail at the start. Her older sister, Dusty, couldn't handle an early flurry, ending with just 32 for the Pilots in a poor showing. Dustin hauled in 287 for the Warriors, giving them a narrow lead at the halfway mark. Strut bounced back with a crisp 419 for Golden, covering the deficit. Noelle fumbled with 144 for Central, allowing them to fall behind again late in the game. A. Charlton didn't get much separation with 160 for the Pilots, putting them at 1151 overall in a tight game. Gizmo did enough with 410 to propel the Warriors to a hard-fought victory, giving them 1193. Central is up to 27-18, and a tie for seventh in the league, while a five-game winning streak ends for the 25-17 Golden squad that now occupies a tie for ninth place.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds are the hottest team in the league, with a chance to sweep the Rockers on the line here. Misty got beat with a sinking offering that caused a swing-and-miss to give her 272 for Westside. Tigerette faltered with 115 for Commerce in a bad appearance. Goatee rallied with 721 for the Rockers, extending their lead quite nicely. Ice Cream suffered a bad deflection, ending with 108 as the Tradewinds are in severe trouble. Midnight didn't end gracefully, but her 391 boosted the Westside lead against her former team. Lionel put Commerce out of play with only 4, likely sealing their fate in an uncharacteristic game for the team. Chicky Phil tapped 139 to give the Rockers 1523 as their total. Lorde went all-out at first, but ended with 355 for the Tradewinds, and they lose with 582. The series is split for these teams, with Westside playing spoiler to get to 15-25, while Commerce likely watches their best chance to get to first place die as they drop to 32-13 with the end of their seven game winning streak.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Pilots get another road game, playing for a sweep here against a struggling Gems team. Valencia fell out of form with only 48 for Golden in a weak opener. Smokey had only 58 in an odd turn for Diamond, getting the game off to a poor start for both teams. Dusty hit 266 for the Pilots as the scoring continues to disappoint. Citrus remedied that with a big 623 to give the Gems a noticeable lead halfway through the game. Strut covered the deficit with 425 for Golden, keeping them in the game. Pedey fired back with 297 for Diamond, regaining a smaller lead. A. Charlton tallied 392 for the Pilots, and that effort will force a response from the hosts as they close with 1131. Cassandra covered it with 279 for the Gems, putting them at 1257 in their win. Diamond improves to 19-26 as they snap a five-game losing streak, while Golden is 25-18 and starting to lose control.
HP Field, Eastside: The Prestige have the chance to sweep in a battle for positioning in the standings. Acorn set them on the right path with 1412 for Lighton in his dazzling first attack. Graham saw a ball chip over his bat and take out his wicket, giving Eastside only 289 as they have a steep hill to climb. Spirit answered with a big 575 to boost the Prestige lead as they have total control in this game. Chelsea answered with 615 for the Sharks in a successful effort to limit the damage. Twinkie I had a calm 176 as Lighton is cruising to the finish. Taylor pulled in 343 for Eastside, trying to get some points back later in the game. Lydia collected 370 for the Prestige, giving them 2533 as their final in what should be a win. Niki made a solid effort with 503 for the Sharks, putting them at 1750 in a tough loss. Lighton gets a boost to go to 26-17, while Eastside falls to 24-20 despite a solid offensive output.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The leader of the East hosts the leader of the West for the first time this season. Snowball made a wonderful start with 731 for Swordpoint, setting the tone for what should be a good game. Goldy crushed 1439 for Everton in response, giving them a huge initial lead. The Blades got 350 back from Dreamy, but they still trail against a very dangerous opponent. Puff III slipped with 84 for the Eagles, and they are in a more vulnerable position now. Shawn covered the deficit with 566 for Swordpoint, giving them a narrow lead at this stage. Cleo replied with 454 to give Everton another lead with a player each to go. Stealth had only 192 for the Blades, which wasn't enough for them, and they lost with 1839. Blizzard had a weak 96 for the Eagles, but they took the win in confident form with 2073. Everton is 38-10 now, with a nine-game home winning streak, while Swordpoint provided a stern challenge even in falling to 29-14 with their six-game road winning streak ending.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Rockers are in line for a sweep here after winning a few weeks ago at home. Misty had a bad start with only 48 for Westside, giving the hosts a big opportunity. Jasmine capitalized with 702 for Freedom, keeping her recent good form going in this game. Goatee got 290 for the Rockers, helping only marginally. Stinky cancelled it out and then some with 367 for the Cascades. Midnight had only 256 for Westside, and they appear overwhelmed in this game. Roxy kept it simple with only 216 for Freedom, as they don't feel threatened for this game. Chicky Phil put up a fight with 838 for the Rockers, including a top-10 highlight for the season when his bat was perfectly lined up to a roll a ball to the back 4s. The Rockers close with 1432 total. Nikolai had to make an impact, and he succeeded with 495 for the Cascades, giving them the win with 1780. Freedom improves to 23-19, while Westside drops to 15-26 with the season split.
Amazon Field, Golden: This segment ends with a Center Division battle, with the return match happening next week. Juno had only 112 for Modernistic in a poor start. Valencia didn't do much better with only 128 for Golden, keeping things close early on. Ms. Puppy had 373 for the Union, giving them a better second effort. Dusty shot back with 734 for the Pilots, pulling them far into the lead. Chimpy couldn't cover the deficit with only 296 for Modernistic, putting them in a bit of trouble. Strut extended the Golden lead with a big 621 on his turn, likely securing the win for them at this point. Puff I had only 20 as her backhand couldn't corral a ball, and the Union lost with 801 overall. A. Charlton had only 271 for the Pilots, but she sealed their win at 1754. Golden gets back on track with a fifth straight home win to go to 26-18, while Modernistic falls to 16-25.
More to come over this weekend, as we finally get a reasonable start to these games.
