We're back as we try to play Weeks 24 and 25 in a single week's time. This is quite the challenge, but we should have the time to at least make a dent. As the season winds down, we'll start notifying for Bubble Watches, with one bubble team, or the rarer Bubble Battles, in which both teams are on the bubble. We begin this week with...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: This Bubble Watch features the Sharpshooters trying to salvage a split in the season series. Chris had a poor showing with only 66 for Capital City to open this game. Sally could have done more for Archtown, but her 260 is enough to give them a small lead. Missy hit 304 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a chance to stay in the game. Sleepy B. had a poor outing with only 6 for the Arrows, allowing them to fall behind. Sprinkles extended the Capital City lead with 317, but the game is still quite low-scoring. Her unrelated lookalike, Ruby, had only 176 as Archtown seems averse to any meaningful scoring tonight. Dani went relentless with 927 for the Sharpshooters, giving them a final score of 1614 in what should be a fourth straight road win. Dusky earned an optional replay and used a great backhand to keep it going, but her 272 put the Arrows at only 714 in the loss. Capital City inches further up the standings to 24-25 on a fifth straight win, while Archtown is 16-24 as losers of three straight.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Pirates want to extend the Sharks misery in their first meeting of the season, and doing so would tighten the bubble a bit more as the Sharks hover above it. Graham smashed 728 for Eastside to get a big lead at the start. Delila answered with 434 for Atlantic, keeping them somewhat close. Chelsea had an unusually bad game with only 96 for the Sharks, leaving them vulnerable. Amber charged back with 661 for the Pirates, giving them the lead at the halfway mark. Taylor failed to cover the deficit with her 192 for Eastside, and they're in danger now. Americus answered with 256, keeping Atlantic at a good distance ahead late in the game. Niki poked 286 for the Sharks, but they took the loss with 1302, a fourth straight road loss. Dominic had a weak finish with 138 for the Pirates, putting them at 1489 in the win. Atlantic gets the division win and goes to 24-18, while Eastside is down to 25-24, and is officially on the bubble.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Starlight-led Volcanoes meet her third sister in three games, facing the Swifts and Patches for the first time this year in another Generations Derby match. Starlight had a modest 263 in this appearance for Pacific. Patches hit 536 for Boston in response, giving them the initial lead. Ms. Kitty covered the deficit with 321 for the Volcanoes, keeping them in the fight. Puff II fired back with 523 to pad the Swifts lead halfway through the game. Jack ripped 606 for Pacific, again covering the deficit for the visitors. Gradley pulled Boston ahead again, but their lead is smaller as he got beat with a low-rolling ball to end his effort at 394. Leonette tapped only 139 for the Volcanoes, and they lost with 1329. Sweetheart had another mild finish with 87, but the Swifts took the win on 1540 overall. Boston is up to 32-16, while Pacific drops to 30-19 and into eighth in the league as Starlight proved unable to beat any of her sisters.
Capital City SuperCenter: The Sharpshooters have a chance to both sweep the Swifts and get to .500 with this Center Division showdown on the Bubble Watch. Patches blasted 907 for Boston to get a big opener. Chris misread a bounce and sent the ball straight up, giving Capital City just 176 to begin with. Puff II covered that damage with 201 for the Swifts, a middling effort. Missy had nothing in her turn, scoring 54 for the Sharpshooters as the pitch went bad. Gradley wouldn't argue that the pitch played unfavorably as he put up a measly 75 for Boston. Sprinkles grabbed 259 for Capital City, but they are still far behind in this game. Sweetheart belted 1156 for the Swifts, essentially doubling their offense to a final of 2339 in what should be another win for the highly-talented team. Dani had a pathetic 120 as the Sharpshooters fell with 609. Boston is back in form, improving to 33-16, while Capital City drops to 24-26 at the end of their five-game winning streak.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors seek a sweep of the lowly Flames as they attempt to take over fifth place in the league. Crystal of Queens had some bounces go against her, as she scored just 156 to start. Twilight answered with 487 to give Central a decent lead. Kayla only had 144 for the Flames, unable to cover the deficit this time. Dustin clubbed another 368 for the Warriors, keeping their lead strong. Max continued the modest production for Queens, hitting only 220 as they remain behind. Noelle clobbered 711 for Central in response, extending their lead to a likely unreachable level. Paige offered no resistance, hitting 214 to give the Flames a losing score of 734. Gizmo tacked on 503 to put the Warriors at 2069 in their victory. Central has won four straight at home and owns a least a temporary hold of fifth place all by themselves at 30-18, while Queens is 16-32 now with the loss.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds face a weakling Center Division rival that they'd like to sweep to help keep their second place claims safe. Frosty did pretty well with 344 for Royal, given the tough competition. Tigerette replied with 713 for Commerce in a bold performance. Jake had decent form as well for the Crowns, but also ended a bit early with 304 as they remain behind. Ice Cream had an additional 554 to supplement the Tradewinds lead. Marsell contributed 378 to keep Royal in range at this point. Lionel hauled in 455 as Commerce is in a good position to get the win here. Nightfur had a decent rally with 471 for the Crowns, but they came up short at 1497 in another loss. Lorde didn't do much with 84 for the Tradewinds, putting them at 1806 in the win. Commerce is going in the right direction again, up to 33-14 as they clinch a winning record for the year, while Royal slips to 15-30 with another division loss.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Sharpshooters' busy week continues with another trip east, looking to bounce back in their first meeting of the season with the Gems in another Bubble Watch game. Chris cranked out 526 for Capital City in this appearance. Smokey just can't get right in home games now, hitting a pathetic 39 for Diamond in the fourth straight home game of under 100 points for him. Missy picked up another 329 to add to the Sharpshooters lead. Citrus played dangerously and paid for it with only 199 for the Gems, who are in a freefall as a team. Sprinkles easily outdid her cousin, but also had a clumsy ending at 495 for Capital City, who are in full control here. Pedey collected 414 to give Diamond a bit of respectability. Dani chopped 272 for the Sharpshooters, giving them their total of 1622. Cassandra had only 240 as the Gems took another loss on 892 total. Capital City is still in the thick of the playoff hunt, but lack games in hand at 25-26, while Diamond is 19-29 with another lackluster loss.
HP Field, Eastside: The Sharks want to get a boost as they participate in their first Bubble Watch game, while the Pilots want to avoid a sweep and gain a share of fifth place in this bitter regional rivalry centered around Dusty versus Graham. Valencia shanked an offering and had only 129 for Golden. Graham nearly made a slick sweep on his backhand, but it was a little short and he gave Eastside 335 instead. Dusty crushed 832 for the Pilots against her bitter personal rival. Chelsea faltered with 215 for the Sharks in another oddly poor effort. Strut didn't do much to secure the Golden lead, taking only 204. Taylor had a paltry 42 for Eastside in this game, failing to make a comeback effort. A. Charlton smashed 1191 for the Pilots, putting them at 2356 in what should be a win to take them into fifth place with the Warriors. Niki's 152 put the Sharks at 744 in the loss. Golden goes to 30-18 in fifth place as winners of five straight, while Eastside drops into a tie for sixteenth at 25-25, with significantly fewer games to gain separation, and a four-game losing streak going.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles inch closer to clinching a playoff spot, with a chance to sweep East Division rivals in this Bubble Watch game. Graham did his part with 679 for Eastside, giving them a nice start to the game. Goldy crushed 1228 for Everton in response, doing her usual to give them a lead. Chelsea struck 464 for the Sharks, keeping them in range for now. Puff III pounded another 745 as the Eagles are running away with another game. Taylor nearly covered the deficit with her magnificent 790 for Eastside. Cleo slipped a bit with 178 for Everton, destabilizing their lead. Niki flubbed the comeback with only 51 for the Sharks, giving them 1984 in the loss, their fifth straight on the road. Blizzard popped 295 to give the Eagles 2446 in their eleventh straight win at home. Everton is at 41-10 for the year, while Eastside takes another hit to 25-26, which is good for a tie for sixteenth right now. With the win, the Eagles have clinched a playoff spot.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The East Division remains in the spotlight as the Cascades look for a sweep after a high-scoring victory over the Arrows early in the season. Sally had 235 for Archtown on a double-hit play that went awry. Jasmine fell off of her recent pace, but still scored 392 to establish a lead for Freedom. Sleepy B. demonstrated excellent control with her 647 for the Arrows, using just the right bat speed most of the time. Stinky let the Cascades fall behind as he accidentally sent a ball backwards to end his effort at 215. Ruby knocked another 776 for Archtown, extending their lead significantly. Roxy got 400 back for Freedom, but they're still far behind. Dusky tapped 361 to give the Arrows a final of 2019 in a likely win. Nikolai tried to mount a comeback, but fell short with 357 to put the Cascades at 1364 in the loss. Archtown gets a surprise win to move to 17-24, while Freedom drops a bit to 24-21.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots look to avenge an embarrassing loss to the Rockers fro a few weeks ago in this Center Division match. Misty fell with a weak 48 for Westside, leaving them in trouble at the start. Valencia also struggled, failing to catch up with just 25 for Golden. Goatee gave the Rockers a much better second effort with 537 on her turn. Dusty nearly caught up, but a high-arcing ball came down on her backhand and took out the wicket, giving her 519 for the Pilots to stay close at the halfway mark. Midnight got stuck in an unfavorable position with a ball on each side of her bat, stymieing her at 297 for Westside. Strut unleashed 1120 for Golden to blow the game wide open in favor of the hosts. Chicky Phil managed 171 for the Rockers, but they took the loss with 1053 total. A. Charlton capped it with 96 for the Pilots, giving them a final of 1760 in the win. Golden has won seven straight home games, improving to 31-18 overall on a six-game winning streak across venues, while Westside continues to fall to 18-28 after recent improvements went stale.
That's all for this rare midweek segment.
