UPCL Cricket: Week 23 Part 1

We're back with the final ten weeks of the season. We're approximately three to four weeks out from any teams clinching, but it should still be a good stretch of games. We begin in...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: It's the first meeting of the year for these two sheltered sides. Misty had a fairly rough start with only 57 for Westside, and they'll probably be working from behind for this game. Sally hit 421 to lead off for Archtown, giving them a solid opening lead. Goatee faltered with 49 for the Rockers, putting them farther behind. Sleepy B. replied with 465 for the Arrows, adding nicely to their lead at the halfway mark. Midnight scored a measly 80 as Westside hasn't shown up to play in this game. Ruby lined a crisp 562 for Archtown, extending their lead once again in what has been an easy game for the hosts. Chicky Phil had a modest 269 for the Rockers, but they finished with an embarrassing 455 total in the brutal loss. Dusky had just 135, but the Arrows easily won with 1583. Archtown improves to 16-21, while Westside is down to 16-27.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Arrows are on a doubleheader now, traveling for a first meeting with the East Division rival Pirates in the A-Game Derby. Sally chipped 231 for Archtown in a middling effort. Delila smashed 1115 to give Atlantic a massive lead. Sleepy B. got caught ball-watching a bit for the Arrows, ending with 44 as they face a tough test. Amber ripped another 646 for the Pirates. Ruby had a mediocre 243 for Archtown, as they continue to lose a lot of ground in this game. Americus had a calm 297 to keep Atlantic firmly in control as the final players step up to bat. Dusky covered a lot of ground with 1141 for the Arrows, but they still took the loss with 1659 in an unbalanced team effort. Dominic tapped 231 to make it a final of 2289 for the Pirates in their victory. Atlantic gets a good win to help their playoff hopes, going to 23-18, while Archtown slides to 16-22 now.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: Another first meeting of the year, with the return match next week. The Swifts would seem favored, but the Torpedoes are hot right now. Smudge had a bit of an awkward early swing, taking only 105 for Infinity to start. Patches didn't give Boston a lot of separation with only 266 on her lead-off turn. Shelley failed to cover the deficit with only 80 for the Torpedoes, who are not doing well under pressure. Puff II did a bit better with 395 for the Swifts, and they hold a noticeable lead. Gabe played through a technical error, forcing a mandatory replay that yielded 21 for Infinity, who are spiraling down in this game. Gradley tacked on another 345 for Boston as they maintain control. Whiskers had a decent rally with 441 for the Torpedoes, but they took the loss with 647. Sweetheart had a messy close with 48 for the Swifts, putting them at 1056 in the low-scoring win. Boston is up to 31-16, while Infinity's surge is halted at 20-23, ending a four-game winning streak.

Capital City SuperCenter: The Sharpshooters look for a sweep after winning against the Spurs last week in nearby Victoria. Spice just missed the corner with one of her hits, ending early with 178 for Victoria. Chris had some early issues with a cluttered pitch, but emerged with 308 for Capital City after clearing those up. B. Chapman couldn't settle a ball on her backhand, ending with 32 for the Spurs in a poor outing. Missy batted 735 to secure the Sharpshooters lead at the halfway mark. Yekaterina put a significant dent in the deficit with 767 for Victoria, keeping them in the game. Sprinkles knocked 417 for Capital City, staving off the threat pretty well. Kavan's 199 left the Spurs short at 1176 in a competitive loss. Dani hit 60 to ice the Sharpshooters win at 1520. Capital City improves to 21-25, while Victoria slides to 16-29 after suffering the sweep.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: It's a big first meeting for these two playoff-caliber teams, captained by one of the most dynamic duos on Club Reality. Starlight swatted 760 to begin for Pacific, a very bold start. Twilight kept it pretty close against her sister, scoring 743 for Central in an electric start to the game. Ms. Kitty picked up 324 for the Volcanoes, giving them a smaller lead than before. Dustin lifted 458 for the Warriors, giving them the midway lead. Jack had 304 to cover the deficit for Pacific, keeping them in the game. Noelle gained a bit more with 377 for Central, topping her brother's output, but the game is still reasonably close in its late stages. Leonette forced a response with 289 for the Volcanoes, giving them 1677 total. Gizmo blew them away with his 576 for the Warriors, carrying them to 2154 in the win. Central gets the big organic rivalry win to go to 28-18, while Pacific slips to 30-17 with the loss.

Nike Field, Commerce: These two Center Division rivals meet for the first time this season in one of the more bitter regional rivalries. Juno clobbered 699 for Modernistic in a strong beginning for the visitors. Tigerette fired back with 615 for Commerce, getting things off to an explosive start. Ms. Puppy countered with a big 503 for the Union, keeping the pressure high. Ice Cream erased the deficit with 735 for the Tradewinds, giving them the lead midway through the game. Chimpy put Modernistic on top again with 320, producing a modest lead. Lionel's recent errors continued with him hitting just 96 as Commerce falls behind again. Puff I proved solid with 361 for the Union, putting them at a final of 1883. Lorde struggled with 51 for the Tradewinds, and they suffered an upset as they ended with 1497. Modernistic gets the surprising division win to jump to 17-27 with the end of their five-game losing streak, while Commerce is down to 32-14 now, failing again to secure a winning record for the season.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Stills look to avoid a sweep as they head east to avenge a home loss to the Gems a few weeks ago. Easter had a poor final swing to give Todavía 294 in an acceptable beginning. Smokey had a third straight inexplicably bad home effort, taking just 16 for Diamond this time. Sierra added 295 for the Stills in a decent showing. Citrus didn't help much with only 160 for the Gems, unable to top her personal rival, Sierra, head-to-head. Leonardo was unable to react to the ball that went under his elevated bat, but his 368 is another solid offering for Todavía in a challenging game. Pedey provided a steady 338 for Diamond, but they still trail by quite a bit late in the game. Sparkles had 193 for the Stills, giving them a total of 1150. Cassandra took 364 for the Gems, but they fell short with 878. Todavía, road weary as they are, get the season split to go to 25-27, while Diamond is 19-27 and falling fast. With only two road games left, the Stills are at home for a rare six games in a row going forward.

HP Field, Eastside: It's an East Division game, with the Arrows trying to finish what they started with a win in week 2 back home. Sally didn't not have the right start for that with only 28 for Archtown. Graham had no trouble giving Eastside a big lead, belting 1119 to punish the visitors' mistake. Sleepy B. had virtually no answer with a measly 48 for the Arrows. Chelsea pummeled another 939 for the Sharks, likely making their lead untouchable. Ruby pulled back with 750 for Archtown, putting them on a more respectable level for their offense. Taylor proved relentless for Eastside, getting most of it back with 622 on her turn. Dusky had only 49 for the Arrows, and they lost with 875, their fourth straight loss on the road. Niki iced the Sharks win with 230 herself for 2910 collectively. Eastside showed no mercy to get to 25-21, while Archtown falls to 16-23 in another major setback.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles look for a sweep after an early-season high-scoring win over the Union on the road. Juno didn't have the best start with 281 for Modernistic, not getting much on her hits. Goldy posted an even 500 for Everton, giving them a noticeable initial lead. Ms. Puppy flubbed her turn with only 32 for the Union, allowing the deficit to grow. Puff III rallied with 447 to boost the Eagles lead at the halfway point. Chimpy grabbed 215 for Modernistic, but they are still far behind in this one. Cleo botched it with 16 points for Everton, but their lead is not in much danger currently. Puff I made a valiant effort with 391 for the Union, but they came up short at 919 overall, taking another loss. Blizzard scored 355 for the Eagles, putting them at 1318 in their tenth straight home win. Everton's second double-digit home-winning streak also gets them to 40-10, the first 40-win team in the league, while Modernistic slides down to 17-28 with the loss.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades will attempt a sweep of the Crowns after a thorough win earlier in the year. Frosty set a sharp tone with 642 for Royal in a big opening attack. Jasmine crushed 833 in response for Freedom, giving them the initial lead. Jake couldn't quite cover the deficit with just 184 for the Crowns, putting them in some minor trouble. Stinky fired back with 635 for the Cascades, boosting their lead nicely. Marsell had a weak 104 for Royal, and they are slipping uncontrollably at this point. Roxy tacked on another 432 to keep Freedom firmly in control. Nightfur tried to get tricky with the bat, but she couldn't handle a fourth ball and her 87 put the Crowns at 1017 in the loss. Nikolai took 231 to give the Cascades 2131 in an easy win. Freedom continues a strong season up to 24-19, while Royal drops to 15-28.

Amazon Field, Golden: The segment ends with a Center Division battle. Crystal unleashed 855 to give Queens a remarkable first effort. Valencia stepped up with 1047 for Golden in response, putting them ahead after the captains. Kayla covered the deficit, but only barely, with 232 for the Flames, leaving them highly vulnerable. Dusty cashed in with 731 for the Pilots, building their lead up quite significantly. Max made a big dent with his 570 for Queens, but he had to stop after a swing and miss and a technical error, keeping the visitors in range. Strut faltered with 152 for Golden, allowing their lead to crumble a bit. Paige struck 272 for the Flames, but left them a point short with 1929 total in a high-scoring loss. A. Charlton brought a quick finish with 79 for the Pilots, putting them at 2009 in the win. Golden has won six straight at home, now with a record of 27-18, while Queens is 3-10 in division and 15-30 overall.

More to come over the weekend, as usual.
