We're back in action with the busy pre-Spring Break schedule. This segment starts with a rivalry game in...
Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: These Northeastern rivals meet for the first time this season with little to play for beyond pride. Sally couldn't get anything positive going, taking two false starts and then 115 points for Archtown. Slinks had the wicket taken out from under her, ending at 268 as Harrison takes a modest lead. Sleepy B. did very well for the Arrows, clubbing 636 to give them a better second effort. Twinkie II just barely covered the deficit with 490 for the Specters, putting the game at a dead heat midway through. Ruby collected 324 as Archtown is far from safe at this point. Sydney carried Harrison ahead with her 685, giving them a nice spot to work from late in the game. Dusky hit 487 to bring the Arrows to 1562 as their final, forcing a response from the hosts. Her sister, Brownie, provided that response in the form of 272 for the Specters, putting them at a win with 1715. Harrison gets the rivalry/division win to go to 19-30, while Archtown drops to 18-26. Things are getting congested near the .400 winning percentage mark.
Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Meteors defeated the Torpedoes in their home opener, but have gone cold recently on the road while their hosts for this game have charged up the standings. This game is on the Bubble Watch. Mr. Snowman exemplified that coldness with only 16 for Viewpoint Sound. Smudge sliced 376 to give Infinity a lead early on. Mams saw a good turn go bad on a deflection that brought her down with 209 for the Meteors. Shelley struggled early but settled in to score 361 for the Torpedoes to add to their lead. Zach flubbed his turn with only 135 for Viewpoint Sound, and they're not looking good. Gabe let the Infinity lead slip as he had a poor 16 points on a bad turn. Kelly flipped 439 to give the Meteors 799, forcing a response from the hosts, but not a large one. Whiskers did plenty with 200 to give the Torpedoes 953 to claim the low-scoring win. Infinity has entered a tie for fourteenth with the Cascades at 25-23, while Viewpoint Sound has lost ten straight road games to drop to 18-28.
Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Cascades get both a chance to sweep the Prestige and reclaim sole possession of fourteenth if they can win this hard battle on the Bubble Watch. Jasmine drilled 586 to give Freedom a very solid opening attack. Acorn couldn't keep up with only 128 for Lighton, putting them behind early. Stinky tacked on 359 for the Cascades in his reliable performance. Spirit fumbled her way to a measly 74 for the Prestige as they are turning in a poor game at a bad time. Roxy failed to secure the Freedom lead, managing only 144 on her turn. Twinkie I didn't do a lot with 209 for Lighton, chipping a small amount off the deficit. Nikolai got beat with a ball just above his bat to end his tun at 311, giving the Cascades an even 1400 as their final. Lydia took a lot of time to score only 259, as the Prestige suffered a loss with 670. Freedom pulls into fourteenth with a record of 26-23, while Lighton is only a bit ahead of them at 27-21 in a tie for twelfth with the Waves.
UPS Ground, Maplewood: The Lumberjacks want to salvage a split with the road-weary Meteors in a third straight game on the Bubble Watch. Mr. Snowman batted 298 for Viewpoint Sound in a decent showing. Fluffina answered with 250 for Maplewood, not enough to cover the deficit but good enough to make it close. Mams struck another 354 as the Meteors put together a decent game so far. She then bowled a wicked knuckler that tied Bryant up and took out his wicket, leaving him with a dumbfounding 49 for the Lumberjacks. We don't usually mention the bowler's work, but this was a case where it couldn't be ignored. Zach tapped another 208 for Viewpoint Sound to maintain their lead. Diddley got stuffed with only 80 for Maplewood as they turn in a terrible effort in a critical game. Kelly ripped 770 for the Meteors, giving them a final of 1630. Cubby tried a rally with 748 for the Lumberjacks, but they fell with 1127 after suffering so much early damage. Viewpoint Sound snapped their ten-game road losing streak to jump to 19-28, while Maplewood's three-game winning streak ends with them going to 20-20. With so many games left, the Lumberjacks are at high risk of fatigue.
Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Spiders want and need a sweep of the Union, if only to correct their road tailspin as they struggle in the Bubble Watch. Shadow got a bit shaky and ended with 180 for Web City. Juno fired back with a crisp 387 for Modernistic, giving them the initial lead. Rainmane exactly covered the deficit with her 207 for the Spiders, but that's just window dressing right now. Ms. Puppy set the new leading margin with her 361, another solid but unspectacular effort from the veteran. Sugar had only 96 as Web City just can't shake this slump. Chimpy pulled in 410 to keep Modernistic's offense consistent as they pull away from the visitors. Shiny lifted a ball too high and ended with 199 for the Spiders, producing their final of 682 in a sixth-straight road loss. Puff I iced the Union win with 414 of her own for a collective 1572, ending a four-game home losing streak. Modernistic is up to 20-30 with the upset win, while Web City sinks to 23-27. With the loss, we'll say that the Sharpshooters and Spiders are temporarily off the bubble.
AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves have a chance to sweep the Shores, which is an intro that could be taken a different way as well. Bear failed to limit the bad deflections, and had only 82 for Whitewater to begin the game. Snuggle had too much on his backhand, scoring 237 for Oceanside to take a minor lead. Twinkie III brought the small contingent of Shores fans to their feet with 1141 on her turn, including a haphazard backwards flip that worked to continue the effort. Bells chipped 335 for the Waves as they have fallen far behind. Cheddar answered with 383 to maintain the Whitewater lead. Alyssa closed much of the gap with 980 for Oceanside, setting up a tight finish. Wild Thing collected 361 to put the Shores at a final of 1967, definitely within reach for the hosts. Pounce soared with 510 to give the Waves 2062 in a gutsy win. Oceanside improves to 28-21, while Whitewater will have a losing season, now at a 20-33 record.
Verizon Field, Pacific: The recently-hot Rockers face a stern challenge in their first meeting of the yer with the Volcanoes. Misty swung a nice 490 to give Westside a good start. Starlight couldn't catch up with her contribution of 304 to the Pacific offense, giving them some catch up work to do. Goatee got a bit too hyper, posting 211 as she sent a ball into the sky for the Rockers. Ms. Kitty belted 1006 to give the Volcanoes the lead, her second four-digit home game in a row. Midnight, a one-time Volcano herself, had an average 274 as Westside remains behind later in the game. Jack provided 420 for Pacific to extend their lead a bit more ahead of the final players. Chicky Phil hit a nice 383, but the Rockers were not up for this challenge, falling with 1358. Leonette didn't help much with 80 for the Volcanoes, but they closed with 1810 in the win. Pacific jumps back into fifth place with a 32-19 record, while Westside drops to 21-30 in a decent battle.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers beat the Torpedoes early in the year, but the Bubble Watch team is better than ever at this time. Smudge batter 543 to give Infinity a solid opening attack in a big West Division game. Watermelon wasn't the most graceful, but she had 575 to give Pearl a slight edge. Shelley carved up 299 for the Torpedoes, leaving them a bit vulnerable this time. Neopolitan did worse, putting the Surfers behind as she hit a paltry 37. Gabe swatted 519 for Infinity, helping them boost their lead at a good time. Wings got 385 back for Pearl, but they still trail as the final players come to bat. Whiskers was too slow to save a rolling ball, ending with 188 to give the Torpedoes a final of 1549. Cowzart nearly did it, rallying for 515 but ultimately leaving the Surfers at 1512, narrowly short of the needed points. Infinity gets a huge win to improve to 26-23 on a six-game win streak that has them back in a tie for fourteenth, while Pearl is 27-20 and just narrowly holding onto tenth place.
Tridents Park, sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Tridents long losing streak at home looks likely to continue against a highly-ranked Blades team seeking a sweep. Snowball embarrassed herself, getting tangled and ending with a measly 36 for Swordpoint. Strawberry gave Pronger the initial lead with a common 351. Dreamy posted 371 to cover the deficit for the Blades. Hoot answered with 400 for the Tridents, keeping them firmly in the lead. Shawn faltered with 224 for Swordpoint, as it dawns on them they may be getting upset in this game. Precious strengthened the lead a little more with 317 for Pronger, adding more pressure. Stealth had only 248 as the Blades lost with 879 as their final, a low mark for the West Division leaders. Paps had a quick finish with 128 to give the Tridents 1196 in their win, snapping a twelve game losing streak at home. Pronger's huge upset earned them a season split and put their record at 17-31, while Swordpoint is 31-17 and now feel the Hummingbirds and Volcanoes just below them for the division lead.
Ebay Center, Queens: The Bubble Watch Lumberjacks begin a stretch of heavy travel as the head south with the hopes of getting a sweep on the Flames. Fluffina got taken down with chaos near her bat, but not until she slugged 1135 for Maplewood, giving them a great opening. Crystal couldn't get much back with only 145 for Queens. Bryant's innocuous double-tap ended up hurting him, as it put his turn into official category, where it quickly ended in a pathetic 7 points for the Lumberjacks. Kayla had a meager 73 for the Flames, doing nothing to help out. Diddley scored 217 for Maplewood, as all players except Fluffina have come in a bit low so far. Max couldn't do much as his backhand sent a ball behind the wicket, which rolled to stop him at 135 for Queens. Cubby's 256 kept the status quo intact, giving the Lumberjacks 1615 in what should be a win barring a miraculous effort from the hosts. Paige did well with 479 for the Flames, but they suffered defeat with 832 overall. Maplewood gets a critical win for their playoff hopes, now at 21-20, while Queens falls to 17-33, officially securing a losing season.
Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: Ending the segment, bitter territorial rivals battle, with the return match just 32 games away next week in Queens. Crystal looked unorthodox in her batting, but produced 328 for Queens. Frosty churned out 554 to give Royal a lead early in the game. Kayla misread a bounce for the Flames, and had only 99 as she failed to cover the deficit. Jake couldn't get separation for the Crowns, disappointing the fans with a measly 33. Max pulled Queens ahead with 424 on his turn, making things interesting in the latter half of the game. Marsell turned an optional replay into 208 for Royal, not enough to regain the lead but good enough to make it a close ending ahead. Paige spiked 375 to give the Flames 1226 as their final, leaving it up to the hosts to decide the game. Nightfur fell short with only 190 for the Crowns, and their losing total stood at 985. Queens will get the chance to sweep next week, jumping to 18-33, while Royal is 16-31 with the loss.
I don't know if I can complete the week tonight, but I'll give it a shot. If not, part 3 should be up tomorrow at some point.
