UPCL Cricket: Week 23 Part 2

We're back for the middle segment of the week. We begin with...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: It's the first meeting for these struggling teams this season. Boots began with a reasonable 319 for Southridge, keeping things simple early on. Slinks answered with 256 for Harrison, putting them behind at the start of this game. Debby fired back with 572 to extend the Defenders lead significantly. Twinkie II didn't have much for her response, producing 280 as the Specters slip farther behind at the halfway point. J. Garcia rallied for another 720 for Southridge, padding the lead nicely again. Sydney regressed with only 103 for Harrison, giving their comeback odds another hit. Shaggy suffered an unlucky bounce that ended her turn at 161, giving the Defenders a final of 1772. Brownie took a slightly slow swing, ending at 141 as the Specters lose with 780 in their sixth straight home loss. Southridge improves to 18-26, while Harrison is 17-28.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The result of this match could define the playoff race going forward, and these two teams will meet again with potentially even more on the line later in the year. Shadow couldn't get anything going, taking a measly 57 for Web City. Smudge had a modest 260 for Infinity, giving them a slight lead early in the game. Rainmane got beat by a bounce on her turn, and had just 144 for the Spiders, failing to cover the deficit. Shelley punished the mistake with 828 for the Torpedoes, giving them the midway point lead in secure form. Sugar tried to use her backhand to settle a ball, but it was too strong, ending her turn at 235 for Web City. Gabe ripped another 823 for Infinity, likely locking their lead in. Shiny had just 168 as the Spiders came up cold with a final of 604 in a brutal loss. Whiskers tacked on another 777 to give the Torpedoes 2688 in a thorough victory. Infinity did just what they needed to tighten things up, improving to 21-23, while Web City narrowly still holds the final playoff position at 22-23.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Sharpshooters won the first meeting of this season, beating the Prestige back at home in a celebration of the Records Game. Capital City's Chris smacked 765 to lead off this meeting. Acorn had only 188 in response for Lighton, putting them far behind at this point. Missy tallied 584 more for the Sharpshooters, keeping their offensive output high. Spirit got most of it back with 559 for the Prestige in a solid answering effort. Sprinkles struggled a bit with 240 for Capital City, potentially leaving the door a bit open. Twinkie I made a solid rally with 665, closing the gap for Lighton with a player each to go. Dani did well to protect the Sharpshooters lead, scoring 494 to give them 2083 overall. Lydia couldn't get the bat positioned right and fell with 53 for the Prestige, giving them a loss on 1465. Capital City is just hanging on in playoff race at 22-25, while Lighton falls to 26-19 and is dropping a bit now.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: It's another first meeting of the season, a surprising commonality for this week's games. Spice put up a solid 385 for Victoria to begin the game. Fluffina eclipsed that effort with 532 for Maplewood, giving them the initial lead. B. Chapman barely covered the deficit with 216 for the Spurs. Bryant had a modest 166 for the Lumberjacks, but they still hold a lead at the halfway mark. Yekaterina gave Victoria a fighting chance, supplying 352 on a relatively strong turn by the rookie. Diddley fired back with 645 for Maplewood, putting them far ahead again in the game's late stages. Kavan fell short with 160 for the Spurs, putting them at a losing score of 1113. Cubby poked 256 to put the Lumberjacks at 1599 in their decisive win. Maplewood takes over sixteenth in the league at 19-19, but they face a busy stretch of 26 games in nine and a half weeks, while Victoria tumbles to 16-30.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The northernmost Center Division team hosts the southernmost one, with the Pilots seeking a sweep after beating the Union last week back home. Valencia picked up 441 for Golden at the start, a solid base for the visitors. Juno fired back with 551 for Modernistic, giving them a slight lead. Dusty lined 734 in response for the Pilots, giving them an even better lead. Ms. Puppy had a weak 185 for the Union, continuing her recent struggles. Strut had a bad swing and took a meager 82 for Golden, destabilizing their lead. Chimpy, a one-time Pilot, had just 25 for Modernistic on his turn, wasting the opportunity to catch up. A. Charlton collected 344 for the Pilots, giving them 1601 overall. Puff I didn't have a comeback in her, with just 199 individually for 960 total. Golden gets the sweep and jumps to 28-18, while Modernistic is down to 17-29.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: The Waves look for the sweep after winning over the Defenders in week 2. Boots drilled 584 for Southridge to give them an excellent opener. Snuggle blasted 1025 for Oceanside to put them in front early on. Debby slashed 620 for the Defenders, covering the deficit. Bells had 297 to regain a small lead for the Waves at the halfway point of the game. J. Garcia made a mess of her turn for Southridge, scoring a measly 33 as they are behind again. Alyssa bought Oceanside a lot of breathing room with her 504, giving them a nice lead for the final players to battle over. Shaggy had only 49 for the Defenders, leaving them short at 1286 as they faltered through the backstretch of the game. Pounce also had a meager 49 for the Waves, but he beat his daughter's team as they closed on 1875 for a fourth straight home win. Oceanside continues to impress, going to 26-18, while Southridge slides to 18-27.

Verizon Field, Pacific: Another edition of the Generational Derby occurs here, with the Volcanoes lined up to sweep. Valencia had a messy first go for Golden, but earned a replay and scored 243 to begin the game. Starlight ripped 751 in response for Pacific, giving them a significant lead. Dusty got some of it back with her 368 for the Pilots, shrinking the deficit a lot. Ms. Kitty essentially cancelled that out with 351 for the Volcanoes. Strut churned out 387 for Golden, keeping them at least somewhat in range. Jack didn't help with 133 for Pacific, leaving them more vulnerable this time around. A. Charlton posted 508 for the Pilots, placing them at 1506 total, forcing a response from the hosts. Leonette couldn't muster enough, striking a well-paced 250 but putting the Volcanoes at 1485 in the loss. Golden gets a series split to improve to 29-18 on a four-game winning streak, while Pacific is 30-18 and at risk of falling out of the top 5 depending on the next game's result.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Both teams have a lot riding on this one, with the Surfers look for a sweep while the Spiders want to mix it up in the bubble chase. Shadow had another sluggish start for Web City, but worked his way out of this one to get 328. Watemelon pulled Pearl ahead with her 436 opening effort. Rainmane didn't do much, scoring 202 for the Spiders as they struggle a bit here. Neopolitan hammered 788 for the Surfers, boosting their lead quite a bit. Sugar had a good individual showing with 432, but Web City remains pretty far behind. Wings had a simple 258 to keep Pearl in control. Shiny collapsed with 37 for the Spiders, leaving them at 999 in a fourth straight road loss. Cowzart iced the win with 396 to put the Surfers at a grand total of 1878. Pearl cruised to the win, moving up to 27-16 and fifth place in the league (second in the West Division), while Web City slides to 22-24 in the middle of the bubble tier.

Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: These teams meet for the first time, with the coldest in the league hosting the hottest. Kiwi drew 511 for Terrace City in a strong showing, only ending to avoid a mandatory replay. Strawberry had a weak 44 for Pronger in response. Jennifer tapped 231 for the Knights, keeping their lead steady. Hoot covered the deficit with 734 for the Tridents, making things more interesting at the halfway mark. Oreo countered with 619, giving Terrace City a big lead again. Precious had only 248 for Pronger on her turn, allowing them to fall behind. Stripes had a reasonable 264 to bring the Knights to their final of 1625. Paps couldn't get the ball to settle for him, and he ended with just 33, putting the Tridents at 1059 in the loss. Terrace City stays hot in going to 28-20 on an eight-game winning streak, while Pronger is 14-29 as losers of their last eleven at home and seven overall.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Center Division gets another highlighted game here, with the Union ready to attempt a sweep. Juno had a crisp 594 for Modernistic in her opening attack, setting them up nicely. Crystal had an awkward swing for Queens, and she scored a meager 36 with the error. Ms. Puppy nailed 707 for the Union in a great turn, but it had a weird ending with an inexplicable lift of her bat to let a ball take out the wicket. Kayla collected 567 in response for the Flames, trying to mitigate the damage. Chimpy produced just 96 for Modernistic, allowing their lead to lose a bit of traction. Max didn't gain much ground with his 224 for Queens, and they'll face quite the challenge with a player each to go. Puff I tacked on 361 to put the Union at 1758 total. Paige popped 550 for the Flames, but they lost with 1377 as she just couldn't maintain her pace. Modernistic gets the sweep, going to 18-29, while Queens is 15-31 on the year.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: The Sharpshooters recently beat the Crowns, and they'd like to do it again in this Center Division rivalry. Chris failed at the start with a measly 33 for Capital City, and he blames the pitch. Frosty misread a swing and had 152 for Royal on her turn, making it a low-scoring start on both sides. Missy couldn't capitalize with only 45 for the Sharpshooters, and they are squandering another game. Jake pulled away a bit with 360 for the Crowns, giving them a better lead. Sprinkles belted 762 for Capital City, overcoming the deficit with a big performance. Marsell had only 128 for Royal, allowing them to fall behind by a noticeable margin. Dani supplied 298 for the Sharpshooters, giving them 1138 total. Nightfur hit 321 for the Crowns, and they took the loss with 961. Capital City got away with one, winning here to embed themselves more in the playoff hunt at 23-25 on a four-game winning streak, while Royal is 15-29 with the loss.

That's it for this segment. Most likely, Week 23 will finish up tomorrow at some time.
