Here, we bring week 22 to an end. We start the segment in...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: It's a West Division showdown for lowly teams, with the Monarchs in position to get the sweep. Spice had a very poor showing, taking a measly 20 for Victoria. Panda didn't do much better, taking 90 to give Southern a small lead. B. Chapman made a decent rally with 496 for the Spurs, putting them in a better position. Shannon had a quick exit to her turn, taking a meager 49 for the Monarchs as they are now trailing. Yekaterina slapped another 512 for Victoria to keep them firmly in front. Kirstin hit 161 for Southern, but they probably won't catch up with such a large deficit this late in the game. Kavan tacked on 289 to put the Spurs at 1317 in what should be a win for them. Nicole attempted a comeback for the Monarchs, but her 384 left them with 684 total in the loss. Victoria gets the division win in a lackluster game, going to 16-27 and snapping a five-game losing streak, while Southern hits 50 games played at a sad 12-38.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Surfers have the chance to sweep here after winning at home in week 4 over the Defenders. Watermelon clobbered 1155 for Pearl to set a substantial foundation for the visitors. Boots did well to get 466 for Southridge, but they've got a tough hill to climb as a team. Neopolitan blasted another 966 for the Surfers, boosting their lead pretty nicely. Debby tried to clear the pitch too quickly, and it put her with only 192 for the Defenders as a ball got behind her. Wings put Pearl in cruise control, hitting 204 to maintain their lead. J. Garcia tried to make a big impact, but her swing was errant and she took just 33 for Southridge as they are in a hopeless spot. Cowzart lined another 424 to put the Surfers at 2749 in a dominant and likely victorious outing. Shaggy picked up 543 for the Defenders in a good attempt at a comeback, but they lost with 1234. Pearl jumps to 25-16, ending a three-game losing streak, while Southridge's three-game winning streak is snapped as they fall to 17-26.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The resurgent Torpedoes face a tough task against the Blades, who beat them at their own home previously in this big West Division game. Smudge ripped 603 to give Infinity a solid opener. Snowball countered with 784 for Swordpoint, putting them ahead early on. Shelley struck 484 to regain a lead for the Torpedoes. Dreamy had only 256 for the Blades, and they now trail slightly at the halfway point. Gabe had a good pace, but an errant swing brought him down with 305 for Infinity, which leaves the team a bit vulnerable. Shawn got jammed and had just 39 for Swordpoint, making things more difficult for them. Whiskers launched 543 for the Torpedoes, icing their offense at 1935 in an excellent team performance. Stealth covered that damage, but closed with 568 individually for 1647 total in the upset loss. Infinity is making a real case now, up to 20-22 with a fourth straight win, while Swordpoint drops to 30-15 with the rare division loss.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: A recently shaky Waves side faces the red-hot Knights, with visions of a sweep in the former's head. Snuggle had only 137 for Oceanside as he got stuck at the start. Kiwi answered with 544 for Terrace City, giving them a very good start to the game. Bells didn't have the proper pace for the Waves on her turn, taking only 81. Jennifer also struggled with pace, hitting a meager 36 for the Knights. Alyssa chipped a modest 271 for Oceanside, failing to cover the deficit again. Oreo smashed 840 for Terrace city, giving them a big lead with a player each to go. Pounce's 338 left the Waves significantly short at 827 in their loss. Stripes pounded another 720 for the Knights, giving them 2140 in a dominant win. Terrace City continues to climb to 27-20 on a seven-game winning streak, while passing the 24-18 Oceanside team.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Waves travel to the coastal southwest to face the Stills in a division game, looking to avoid a sweep this time. Snuggle had a most nightmarish start this time, taking a pathetic 3 points for Oceanside. Easter showed no mercy, unleashing a crisp 852 for Todavía to take a massive lead early on. Bells covered it easily, blasting 1216 for the Waves to gain a noticeable lead. Sierra couldn't cover the deficit, producing 264 for the Stills. Alyssa lined another 472 for Oceanside, keeping them in control. Leonardo made a mess of his turn with only 184 for Todavía, putting them a bit farther back. Pounce had a poor finish with only 82 for the Waves, leaving them a tad vulnerable at 1773 overall. Sparkles couldn't catch up with 180 for the Stills, leaving them short at 1480. Oceanside gets the win to improve to 25-18, while Todavía's playoff chances take another hit down to 24-27.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Sharpshooters have a chance at the sweep against a tough team, and they need the win to bolster their playoff hopes. Chris opened with a reasonable 336 for Capital City, a decent score. Princess had a very messy start for Tysini, but proved resilient in crushing 1159 after taking awhile to clear the pitch. Missy answered with 402 for the Sharpshooters, denting the deficit a bit. Leandra added another 570 for the Hummingbirds in a strong showing at the halfway point. Sprinkles made a huge rally with 1084 for Capital City, covering the deficit. Charli answered with 451 to restore a lead for Tysini with the final players coming to bat. Dani couldn't muster a response, scoring a measly 51 for the Sharpshooters as they fall with 1873. Bright had a simple 247 to give the Hummingbirds a final of 2427 in the win. Tysini improves to 28-18, while Capital City takes a devastating loss to fall to 19-25.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Sharpshooters make the short trip south for the second game in their doubleheader. The return match is only a few games away, early next week. Chris plowed his way to full HD status with 1080 for Capital City. Spice countered with 424 in a decent showing for Victoria. Missy swung 708 for the Sharpshooters this time, extending their lead nicely. B. Chapman took 321 for the Spurs, but they're losing ground at the halfway mark. Sprinkles ripped 853 for Capital City, continuing their comprehensive offensive effort. Yekaterina was solid with 480 for Victoria, but she lost a little more ground. Dani pummeled 950 to ice the Sharpshooters' efforts at 3591 in a thorough victory. Kavan's 490 was far from enough as the Spurs lost with 1715 in a bit of an unlucky game for the team. Capital City gets a much needed win to go to 20-25, while Victoria is down to 16-28 with the loss.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: The Shores have a chance to sweep here after a recent win over the Meteors back home. Bear led off with a solid 407 to give Whitewater a reasonable start. Mr. Snowman put up 554 for Viewpoint Sound, giving them the initial. Twinkie III stumbled with 131 for the Shores, failing to cover the deficit. Mams had 376 to add a bit to the Meteors lead. Cheddar had a weak 33 for Whitewater, putting them in even more trouble. Zach boldly accepted 165 for Viewpoint Sound despite earning an optional replay, clearly assuming his team has the game under control at this late juncture. Wild Thing cranked out 564 for the Shores, giving them 1135 overall, forcing a response from the hosts. Kelly calmly took 405 to seal the Meteors win with 1500 total. Viewpoint Sound is up to 17-24, while Whitewater collapses to 18-30 in a lost season.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The long-awaited return match promised earlier this week is up, with the Arrows looking to sweep their bitter Northeastern rivals. Sally slugged 1138 for Archtown in a massive opener for the visitors. Shadow answered with an even bigger 1747 for Web City, carrying them far ahead. Sleepy B. failed to cover the deficit despite a strong 466 for the Arrows. Rainmane didn't provide any useful help with just 46 for the Spiders, making them vulnerable at the halfway point. Ruby couldn't cash in with just 211 for Archtown. Sugar chipped just 115 for Web City, making it a sloppy and close ending for this game. Dusky failed the Arrows with just 72 points, leaving them in a loss with 1887. Shiny's 376 brought the Spiders to 2284 in their victory. Web City gets the season split and is back to .500 on a record of 22-22, while Archtown is 15-21 after the loss.
BMW RockDome, Westside: The Sharks have a chance to get the sweep in the second Pick-Your-Side Derby game of the season. Graham had a mediocre 239 to begin for Eastside. Misty kept it close with a similar 232 for Westside, leaving it to the rest of the rosters to decide the game. Chelsea sliced 617 to give the Sharks a more stable lead the second time around. Goatee pulled Westside ahead anyway, carving out 850 to give them the lead at the halfway mark. Taylor picked up 376 for Eastside on her mandatory replay, covering the deficit. Midnight made a big impact with 739 for Westside, carrying them far into the lead late in the game. Niki's 320 put the Sharks at 1552, an insufficient total as they suffer defeat in this game. Chicky Phil tacked on 259 to seal the Rockers win at 2080. Westside's been a bit hot recently, jumping to 16-26, while Eastside falls to 24-21 with the series split.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The week ends with the Shores seeking a sweep of a Center Division rival in the Union, whom they beat early in the year on the road. Juno began with a solid 345 for Modernistic. Bear came up a little bit short with only 317 for Whitewater to start off. Ms. Puppy had only 181 for the Union, allowing their lead to lose a bit of steam. Twinkie III smacked 385 to carry the Shores ahead halfway through the game. Chimpy just barely covered the deficit with 260 for Modernistic. Cheddar batted another 522 to boost the Whitewater lead with the final players coming to bat. Puff I had 279, but the Union would suffer a loss at 1065. Wild Thing hit 536 to ice the Shores total at 1760 in the win. Whitewater improves to 19-30, while Modernistic is 16-27 on a five-game losing streak.
Standings update to follow this post. Don't expect much this week, as I'm now battling a cold.
