Here's the final segment of the week, beginning with...
Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: The Monarchs have a rare sweep opportunity after an early season win over the Specters in Harrison. Slinks slipped up in the first turn, taking a weak 16 for Harrison this time around. Panda didn't dazzle with only 178 for Southern. Twinkie II went big with 703 for the Specters, giving them a sizable lead. Shannon belted 1194 to preserve a lead for the Monarchs at the halfway point. Sydney replied with 429 for Harrison, but she was unable to cover the deficit with the effort. Fellow rookie Kirstin kept the Southern pace with 317 on her turn, maintaining control as the final players come to bat. Brownie made a similar impact with 418 for the Specters, but they ended short at 1566 in the loss. Nicole went low with 245 for the Monarchs, giving them 1934 in their win. Southern continues to be unpredictable with their wins, now at 13-38, while Harrison drops to 17-29.
GE Stadium, Southridge: The Center Division gets another spotlight game between straggling sides. Misty chopped her way to 636, taking some odd but effective swings to make such a nice production. Boots had a very messy turn, producing a measly 28 for Southridge, which means they'll work from behind. Goatee looked slightly more confident than her captain, but produced a similar 640 as the Rockers are dominant in this game. Debby pulled back with 505 for the Defenders, but they still are way behind. Midnight got caught ball-watching a bit on her turn, but she smacked 654 as Westside continues strong team play. J. Garcia had only 112 as Southridge fails to keep up. Chicky Phil tallied 433 to give the Rockers 2363 as their grand total in what should be a win. Shaggy had a reasonable 281, but the Defenders still brutally lost with 926. Westside is up to 17-27, just barely trailing the 18-28 Southridge side in a virtual tie by games-back of .500.
Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: The Gems have a chance to sweep and further disrupt the Blades' efforts at the top of the standings. Smokey had a simple 269 to begin for Diamond, getting beat with an odd bounce. Snowball replied with 479 for Swordpoint, giving them a decent first lead. Citrus covered the deficit with her 240 for the Gems, but not by much. Dreamy scored another 321 for the Blades, keeping them in control halfway through the game. Pedey collapsed with 113 for Diamond, allowing them to fall farther behind. Shawn swung 487 for Swordpoint, cementing their lead late in the game. Cassandra fell with 240 for the Gems, and they took the loss on a score of 862, their fourth straight road loss. Stealth chipped in with 352 for the Blades, icing their win at 1639. Swordpoint jumps to 31-15, just a game back of the Center Division-leading Tradewinds for second in the league, while Diamond is down to 19-28 as their season has completely unraveled.
Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights debut their modified look with a brighter orange as they seek a sweep of the Cascades to keep their hot streak going. Jasmine only got about half of her last ball, getting jammed on the wrists and ending with 160 for Freedom. Kiwi suffered an eerily similar fate for Terrace City, tying the game with 160 herself. Stinky couldn't get much separation, taking 192 for the Cascades. Jennifer answered with 543 for the Knights, carrying them to a lead midway through the game. Roxy couldn't settle one with her backhand, ending with just 88 for Freedom. Oreo kept Terrace City in good shape with 281, extending the lead mildly. Nikolai fell with 60 for the Cascades, and they had trouble in this game, losing on 500 even. Stripes had just 176 for the Knights, but they won with 1160 in a less-than-impressive effort. Terrace City makes it a nine-game winning streak as they reach 29-20, while Freedom slips to 24-20, ending a short period of time where no team had a one-game losing streak.
Apple Park, Todavía: The Stills begin their six-game home-stand with a chance to sweep the Warriors. Twilight made up for what she lacked in efficiency with longevity, running to 804 for Central. Easter answered with 329 for Todavía, a decent appearance. Dustin essentially cancelled that out with his 326 for the Warriors, maintaining their lead. Sierra had no answer for a ball that got redirected over her head, ending her turn at a paltry 87 for the Stills. Noelle slapped another 690 for Central, extending their lead nicely. Leonardo kept Todavía looking alive with his 554, but they are way behind with a player each to go. Gizmo lined 603 to give the Warriors their final of 2423. Sparkles put up a fighting chance with 556 for the Stills, but they lost with 1526 overall. Central gets the big win to go to 29-18, while Todavía is down to 25-28 as their playoff hopes dwindle.
Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Sharks want to repeat what they did at home, which would give them a sweep and a better playoff chance. Graham had only 166 as he couldn't handle a cluttered pitch well for Eastside's first turn. Princess had a lazy 146 for Tysini, putting them slightly behind early on. Chelsea had only 153 for the Sharks, failing to pull them farther ahead. Leandra had 274 for the Hummingbirds, giving them the lead but not by much as she got beat with balls going in different directions. Taylor covered the deficit with her 302 for Eastside, but the game remains close. Charli hammered 650 to give Tysini a more stable lead late in the game. Niki had a bad backswing to end her turn at 295 after some struggles for the Sharks, giving them a loss with 916. Bright struck 280 for the Hummingbirds, and they won with 1350 overall. Tysini enters a three-way tie for seventh in the league at 29-18, while Eastside falls to 25-22, still comfortably above the bubble for now.
Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The Spurs would like to complete an upset sweep of the Surfers, but they need to break a cold snap to do it. Watermelon spiked 345 for Pearl to begin the game. Spice answered with 368 for Victoria, giving them a slight initial lead. Neopolitan had just 180 for the Surfers, leaving the door wide open to falling behind. B. Chapman knocked 538 for the Spurs, pulling them much farther ahead this time around. Wings faltered with only 80 for Pearl, likely confirming their defeat in this game. Yekaterina swatted 544 as Victoria is running away with this game. Cowzart had only 225 on his optional replay for the Surfers, putting them at 830 in a loss. Kavan drilled 625 for the Spurs, putting them at 2075 in a thorough victory. Victoria gets the surprising sweep over their division rivals, improving to 17-30, while Pearl is down to 26-17, falling to ninth in the league.
Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: Crystal had 339 for Queens on her opening turn, a decent performance. Mr. Snowman replied with 592 for Viewpoint Sound, giving them a significant initial lead. Kayla couldn't cover the deficit for the Flames, producing a mediocre 168 in an uninspiring showing. Mams ended her turn with a measly 49 for the Meteors, blaming the pitch for having a ball stick inconveniently. Max pulled Queens ahead on at least a temporary basis with his 314, keeping the game competitive. Zach also botched his turn for Viewpoint Sound, scoring a pathetic 33 as they are now definitively behind late in the game. Paige sliced another 425 for the Flames, giving them a final score of 1246. Kelly nearly saved the day for the Meteors, but her 431 wasn't enough, and they took the loss with 1105. Queens gets a somewhat surprising win to go to 16-31, while Viewpoint Sound sits at 17-25.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: The Spiders need to reverse their struggles, but they face a Sharks team hungry for a sweep in this East Division showdown. Graham had a middling start with 213 for Eastside, leaving them vulnerable already. Shadow didn't make it solid, but his 288 put Web City ahead. Chelsea gave the Sharks another chance at a small lead with her 231. Rainmane churned out 515 for the Spiders, giving them a bigger lead at the halfway mark. Taylor managed to cover the deficit with her 384 for Eastside, keeping them in the fight. Sugar smashed 824 for Web City in a spectacular outing to give them a confident lead. Niki got taken down with 220 for the Sharks, ending their losing effort at 1048. Shiny replied with 395 for the Spiders, icing their victory at 2022. Web City got just what they needed, winning to go to 23-24, while Eastside slips again to 25-23.
BMW RockDome, Westside: This is the first meeting for these teams, with the suddenly-hot Rockers looking pretty good against a demoralized Meteors side. Mr. Snowman had one of the calmest turns in a long time, collecting an easy 460 to begin for Viewpoint Sound. Misty sprawled out a bit to get 595 for Westside, giving them the initial lead. Mams covered the deficit with a middling 240 for the Meteors. Goatee pounded another 602 for the Rockers, extending their lead pretty well. Zach had a meager 24 for Viewpoint Sound as his personal struggles continue, likely lining them up for a loss. Midnight poked 337 for Westside, keeping things steady for them in a strong outing. Kelly stumbled with 168 for the Meteors in her first meeting against her former team, and they lost an eighth straight road game on a final of 892. Chicky Phil had 199 to ice the Rockers score at 1733 in the win. Westside has been good as of late, and now stand at 18-27, while Viewpoint Sound drops again to 17-26, behind the Rockers in the standings.
Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The Spurs have the chance to sweep the Shores in this Week 23 finale. Spice had a poor 209 for Victoria, not setting a great tone for the visitors. Bear answered with a big 656 for Whitewater, giving them a significant lead here. B. Chapman also struggled for the Spurs, taking a mild 162. Twinkie III didn't have a great final swing, ending early on 50 for the Shores, who still lead at the halfway mark. Yekaterina plucked 726 for Victoria on her turn, putting them ahead with the star effort. Cheddar failed to cover the damage, with just 197 for Whitewater, who are behind with a player each to go. Kavan batted 410 to put the Spurs at their final of 1507, a high bar to hurdle. Wild Thing tried to go a pure muscle route, and fell with 144 for the Shores, giving them a loss with 1047. Victoria gets the sweep, jumping to 18-30, while Whitewater is in a virtual tie at 19-31.
That's all for this week. We may be doing a double-games week this week, if motivation stays strong. Standings will be updated shortly after publication time.
