We're back as the schedule is in acceleration mode still. We'll see how much of this week we can get done today. First up is...
Starbucks Cup, Archtown: It's the first meeting of the year for these teams. Snuggle wasted no time in setting the tone favorably for Oceanside, smacking 694 on his opening turn. Sally replied with a decent 292 for Archtown, but they'll start from pretty far behind. Bells lined another quick 619 for the Waves, keeping their lead quite solid. Sleepy B. charged back with 470 for the Arrows, but the deficit has grown a bit again. Alyssa slipped up a bit with 144 for Oceanside, potentially allowing their lead to lose some steam here. Ruby had 209 for Archtown in an uninspiring turn that didn't help much. Pounce posted 471 to bring the Waves to their final of 1928, which will be tough to top. A deflected ball landed just out of reach of Dusky's backhand, ending her effort at 151 as the Arrows fall with 1122. Oceanside is now 27-20 in a tie for eleventh in the league, while Archtown falls back to 18-25.
McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: The Waves stay on the road in the East for a second game in a doubleheader, which will clear up a lot for the middle seeds. Snuggle didn't handle his turn so well this time, with only 99 for Oceanside. Delila staked out a decent Atlantic lead with her 448. Bells just barely covered the deficit with 368 for the Waves, keeping things interesting. Amber ripped 599 to boost the Pirates lead at the halfway mark. Alyssa got a lot of it back with her 407 for Oceanside, but they still trail. Americus easily covered the damage with 757 for Atlantic, and they appear prepared to take the win. Pounce had only 63 this time as the travel showed on the Waves, who lost with 937 total. Dominic mashed 394 for the Pirates, putting them at 2198 in a big win. Atlantic takes eleventh all to themselves at 25-18 on a four-game winning streak, while Oceanside is back to thirteenth with a 27-21 record.
Coca-Cola Field, Boston: This is the third straight game with opponents meeting each other for the first time this season. Jasmine played a smooth game, scoring 399 in her appearance here. Patches covered it with 578 for Boston, with her only mistake being an accidental back-swing to take out her wicket. Stinky answered with 328 for the Cascades, covering the deficit going the other way. Puff II couldn't do the same, and her 139 left the Swifts ever-so-slightly behind in the game. Roxy slipped up with 113 for Freedom, and they are vulnerable now. Gradley turned a dangerous start into a massive success with 935 for Boston, helping them to gain a large lead late in the game. Nikolai's 311 was far from enough for the Cascades, and they took the loss on 1151 total. Sweetheart flicked 206 for the Swifts, giving them 1858 in a fourth straight home win. Boston has third place to themselves at 34-17 now, while Freedom drops to 25-22, in the tier directly above the bubble.
Capital City SuperCenter: The Center Division takes the spotlight in this Bubble Watch, with the Rockers looking to double up on their previous low-scoring win in this series back at home. Misty got beat on a high bounce, but produced 564 to give Westside a strong start. Chris managed only 147 for Capital City, and they will play from behind. Goatee slammed another 688 to pad the Rockers lead significantly. Missy's inconsistency caught her again, and she had a meager 51 for the Sharpshooters. Midnight ended abruptly as she chipped a ball out of bounds and ended on 147 for Westside, who are still in firm control. Sprinkles made an impact with 418 for Capital City, but the deficit remains large. Chicky Phil did not do well with only 115 for the Rockers against his former team, but they finished with a nice 1514. Dani got jammed with 292 for the Sharpshooters, and they lost with 908. Westside gets the sweep here in an upset, going to 20-29 and a surprising 9-9 division mark, while Capital City is 25-29 at the very bottom of the bubble.
Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Rockers play a doubleheader, and they look to sweep the defending champions after winning their home opener against the Warriors. Misty had 367 for Westside, but had a ball go out of bounds off the base of her bat. Twilight couldn't pick the corner, ending with a measly 98 for Central. Goatee added 456 for the Rockers to build up the lead a bit more. Dustin got cut down at 247 for the Warriors, who are having an unusually bad game. Midnight slapped another 480 as Westside is in good form for this game. Noelle swung and missed on two balls but recovered, only to see the first clip out of bounds and put her at 171 for Central, who are far behind with a player each to go. Chicky Phil belted 879 to cap the Rockers offense at 2182 in what should be a win for the season sweep. Gizmo put up 476 for the Warriors, but they ended at 992 in a brutal loss. Westside might be making a late run up the standings now, standing at 21-29, while Central drops shockingly to 30-19 in eighth place as a four-game winning streak is snapped for them.
Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds want to sweep their Center Division rivals after beating the Defenders early in the season in Southridge. Boots had a modest 140 to begin the game for Southridge. Tigerette swatted 685 as her offense continues to pace Commerce quite a bit. Debby cancelled it out with 686 for the Defenders, but their lead is tenuous. Ice Cream answered with 364 for the Tradewinds, giving them a marginal lead at the halfway point. Jessica hauled in 703 for Southridge, putting a lot of pressure on the hosts. Lionel got beat on a series of deflections, giving him only 112 as Commerce enters a panic late in the game. Shaggy had a middling 230 to place the Defenders at 1759 overall. Lorde tried a tally, but ended with 218 as deflections sealed a poor fate for the Tradewinds, who lost with 1379, their third loss in their last four home games. Southridge gets a surprising season split with the second place team, going to 19-29, while Commerce is 36-15 after the loss.
The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Gems bring in the Union with the intent of sweeping them in a less compelling match on the schedule. Juno had a meager 96 to begin the game for Modernistic, done in by a deflection. Smokey's home struggles reached another week as he hit a pathetic 48 for Diamond. Ms. Puppy's 496 gave the Union a much more confident lead the second time around. The Gems got just 144 from Citrus, who is developing a slump of her own. Chimpy piled on with 481 for Modernistic as they pull away in this game. Pedey did nothing to help with a measly 40 for Diamond, a team that can't catch a break. Puff I unleashed 661 for the Union, icing a strong team effort at 1734. Cassandra collected 376 for the Gems, but they lost with 608 as their offense wilts late in the year. Modernistic's win takes them to 19-30, where they are now tied with Diamond on the same record, except the latter has lost their last four games.
HP Field, Eastside: The Sharks want to right their ship in this Bubble Watch game in which they have a chance to sweep the lowly Tridents. Strawberry carved up 776 for Pronger to get things going. Graham saw a ball get knocked down early in his turn, and he had only 81 for Eastside. Hoot hit a reasonable 296 to add bit to the Tridents lead. Chelsea did a bit better with 364 for the Sharks, making a slight cut into the deficit. Precious continued to nurse the Pronger lead with a calm 281 in a serviceable appearance. Taylor proved a bit reckless with the bat, double-hitting a ball that went out of bounds to end her turn at 211 for a struggling Eastside. Paps crushed 995 to cement a Tridents victory at 2348 in a huge effort. Niki pummeled 881 for the Sharks, but that only got them halfway there, and they fell to defeat with 1537, which makes it look better than it was. Pronger salvaged a season split with the win that takes them to 16-31, while Eastside is 25-27 as the bubble gets stretched thinner again.
Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles seek a sweep after a thrilling high-scoring win over the Pirates in Atlantic, with these two East Division teams both wanting a bit more ground in the playoff race. Delila spiked 399 for Atlantic in a solid opener for the potential MVP candidate. Goldy didn't do her best, but her 537 put Everton noticeably ahead early on. Amber faltered with only 49 for the Pirates, and this one might be getting away from them. Puff III also struggled, but her 64 added a sliver more to the Eagles lead. Americus got stopped at 122 for Atlantic, failing to cover the deficit. Cleo pounded 1031 for Everton to solidify their lead. Dominic had only 177 as the Pirates fell with 747, getting annihilated by the best in the league. Blizzard kept it simple with 240 for the Eagles, giving them 1872 in their twelfth straight home win (marking a second 12-game home winning streak this season). Everton continues to dominate at 42-10, while Atlantic drops to 25-19 as their four-game winning streak is snapped.
Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades want to sweep the Defenders after spoiling their home opener. Boots found a groove early in her turn and didn't let it go, pillaging her way to 919 for Southridge. Jasmine got beat by the same ball twice, swinging and missing before spiking it into her wicket to put her at 112 for Freedom. Debby added 320 to the Defenders lead in a decent showing. Stinky struggled as the pitch got cluttered, and he had only 206 for the Cascades, who are far behind halfway through the game. J. Garcia picked up 434 for Southridge in a strong effort, keeping their lead in check. Roxy couldn't undo that damage, hitting 368 for Freedom as they are desperate now. Shaggy proved merciless for the Defenders, clobbering 1141 to give them 2814 as their grand total. Nikolai had only 260 as the Cascades dropped a brutal loss with 946 overall. Southridge has answered the bell this week, now up to 20-29, while Freedom is at 25-23, and they are officially on the bubble.
Amazon Field, Golden: The Pilots look for a sweep of the Specters as hot at home meets cold everywhere to end this segment of games. Slinks hit 266 for Harrison in a fairly normal performance for her this season. Valencia clubbed 633 to establish a lead for Golden. Twinkie II churned out 1007 for the Specters, covering the deficit in a big way. Dusty lifted 913 in response to restore a Pilots lead. Sydney rallied for 557, again giving Harrison a lead in this run-and-gun thriller of a game. Strut did just enough to cover the deficit with his 344, and this one could go either way as the final players come to bat. Brownie sliced 456 to give the Specters 2286, forcing a sizable response from the hosts. A. Charlton was not up to task with only 209 to give the Pilots 2099 in a loss. Harrison pulls off a massive upset to go 18-30 as their four game losing streak ends, while Golden is down to 31-20, snapping a seven-game winning streak at home.
That was quite the set of games for the 25th week of the season. More to come in the early parts of this week.
