UPCL Cricket: Week 8 Part 1

We're back for the week that takes us a quarter of the way through the season. The first game is...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The two northernmost teams get their Northeast rivalry renewed in a big division game. Twilight kept her excellent season rolling with a strong 592 for Central to begin the game with. Sally chopped 348 in response for Archtown, keeping them within range. Dustin answered with 384 for the Warriors, keeping them in control. Sleepy B. swung 954 for the Arrows, giving them the lead at the halfway point of the game. Noelle covered the deficit, producing 439 for Central to give them a narrow lead again. Ruby barely scraped Archtown into a lead, hitting a weak 128. Gizmo also tallied 439 for the Warriors, putting them at a final of 1854. Dusky edged the Arrows to a win, slapping 470 to give them 1900 in the end. Archtown wins over their biggest rival, going to 6-6, while Central falls back to 11-5 as their six-game win streaks overall and on the road both end.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Chris looked more solid in posting 387 for Capital City, his best road effort of the season so far. Delila kept Atlantic very close, striking 353 with some smooth swings. Missy displayed wonderful range with her swings, scoring 433 for the Sharpshooters to maintain their lead. Amber unloaded with big swings to reach 548 and give the Pirates a slim lead at the halfway mark. Sprinkles slipped with 105 for Capital City, leaving them in danger. Americus did not solidify Atlantic's lead, adding just 237. Dani let one slip, ending her turn at 33 as the Sharpshooters lost with 958. Dominic's 239 sealed the win for the Pirates, with their final standing at 1377. Atlantic improves to 10-9 as their pace slows a bit from the frantic start, while Capital City is down to 5-7.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: Princess established a large lead early in the game for Tysini, smacking 823 to start the game. Patches answered with 496 for Boston after her backhand chip lacked enough pace to find an appropriate landing spot. Leandra countered with 586 for the Hummingbirds, navigating two early dead balls to produce a good effort. Puff II gave the Swifts a minor lead by slugging 1132 in a no-doubt performance. Charli failed to produce an answer for Tysini, scoring only 146 as they still trail. Gradley ended his turn at 272 after a technical error, rejecting the optional replay to keep Boston in the lead. Bright couldn't handle all the odd bounces, taking just 202 as the Hummingbirds lost with 1757. Sweetheart iced the Swifts cake at 2259, scoring 359 individually to cap the victory. Boston continues to trend upward to 12-7, while Tysini drops to 9-4.

Capital City SuperCenter: The Hummingbirds will look to right the ship in the second game of a back-to-back. Princess tallied 387 for Tysini this time, giving them a much less stable base. Chris struggled to get 144 for Capital City, giving them a hill to climb early. Leandra ended with 481 for the Hummingbirds, failing to get anything on a backhand attempt. Missy fired back with 440 for the Sharpshooters, keeping the deficit relatively stable. Charli essentially took it all back for Tysini, carving out a quick 438 to maintain the lead. Sprinkles found her rhythm and rode it to 791 for Capital City, making things quite interesting at the end of the game. Bright's knock-down of a ball bounced into the stumps, giving him just 144 to put the Hummingbirds at a dangerously low 1450 final score. Dani stepped up with 450 to put the Sharpshooters at a winning total of 1825. Capital City is back on track at 6-7, right in the thick of the battle for the season, while Tysini again slides, now at 9-5.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: The Warriors seek a sweep of the Pirates for this season after beating them in Atlantic a few weeks ago. Delila set a high standard, clubbing 600 for Atlantic to lead off. Twilight finally faltered, taking only 135 as the pressure of her hot streak overwhelmed the Central captain. Amber hauled in 478 for the Pirates, capitalizing on a technical error and mandatory replay to give the visitors a strong lead. Dustin mitigated the damage, pulling in 418 for the Warriors as they still trail significantly. Americus eased up a bit for Atlantic, scoring 304. Noelle rallied with 760 to get Central back into the game as the last players prepare to bat. Dominic played well to grab 441 for the Pirates, putting them at a total of 1823. Gizmo scooped 344 for the Warriors, but they took the loss with 1657. Atlantic earns a season series split, going to 11-9, while Central drops to 11-6, with both teams even in the East Division.

Nike Field, Commerce: These two teams will play twice in four league games, the first time from the Urban Core North region in Commerce. Goldy belted 893 to open for Everton, a massive lead in what could be a testy game based on the upcoming schedule. Tigerette had just 147 for Commerce, as they fall behind early. The Eagles extended their lead with another 665 from Puff III, as the offense remains white-hot. Ice Cream posted 451 for the Tradewinds, getting them to a more respectable pace. Cleo tacked on 546 for Everton as their lead is likely untouchable at this point in the game. Lionel suffered an unfortunate bounce for Commerce, getting stalled at 188 for his effort. Blizzard ripped 663 for the Eagles, giving them a likely victorious final of 2767. A deflection ended Lorde's appearance at 248 for the Tradewinds, giving them a final of 1034 in the loss. Everton has won ten straight, six of those on the road, with an overall record of 13-1, while Commerce is down to 13-6 as their four-game winning streak is snapped.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: East meets West in this battle of glamour franchises. Pacific's Starlight did well early in the game, giving the visitors 521 to begin with. Smokey staved off an odd bounce to continue his turn for Diamond, giving them 471 to keep things close. Ms. Kitty showed strong unity with Starlight, as the Volcanoes' other superstar also struck 521, reestablishing their lead. Citrus pulled the Gems into the lead, ripping 692 in a wild appearance. Jack recovered 411 for Pacific, giving them a smaller lead this time around in a competitive battle. The Diamond rookie Pedey struggled with 240, making things a little closer heading to the final players. Leonette failed to secure the lead, scoring 247 to put the Volcanoes at a total of 1700. Cassandra couldn't close it for the Gems, scoring 256, which cost them the game as they finished with 1659. Pacific escapes the Eastern Hills with a win, moving to 10-6, while Diamond falls to 5-9 in an unlucky loss.

HP Field, Eastside: These two teams will play both of their season series games this week, first in Eastside, and then again in Royal at the end of part 2 for the week. Frosty got Royal going with a good performance, giving them 618 at the start. Graham answered with 790 for Eastside, putting them in the lead early on. Jake shot back with 501 for the Crowns, keeping the scoring high in this game. Chelsea took 314 for the Sharks, making it a very close game at the halfway point. Marsell's road struggles persisted, as he produced only 96, leaving Royal vulnerable at a bad time. Taylor buried that mistake, rocking 1380 for Eastside to take a massive lead late in the game. Nightfur managed 209 for the Crowns, but they suffered defeat with 1424. Niki poked 176 for the Sharks, giving them a final score of 2660 in a huge victory. Eastside will have the chance to sweep later this week, now standing at 6-6 for the season, while Royal drops to 4-6 after a brutal loss.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The teams complete their season series with this game, as the Eagles look to complete a sweep in front of their home crowd. Tigerette led off with 314 for Commerce as they look for revenge, an average start to the game. Goldy continued to display impeccable form, swatting 710 to give Everton another hot start. Ice Cream failed to cover the deficit, producing 263 for the Tradewinds as the hosts show a bit of their bowling ability as well as their batting. Puff III finally cracked, taking a meager 72 for the Eagles, allowing their lead to shrink a bit. Lionel batted 240 for Commerce, temporarily putting them in the lead. Cleo picked up the Everton offense, striking 513 to restore a more confident lead. Lorde got shut down at 207 for the Tradewinds, putting them at another loss with 1024. Blizzard pummeled 522 to give the Eagles a win with 1817. Everton continues to soar at their own altitude, now standing at 14-1, while Commerce is down to 13-7 after another defeat at the hands of the Eagles.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The East Division gets another highlight game, as the Specters deal with a busy schedule against a solid Cascades side. Slinks put too much on her last swing, ending with 155 for Harrison in a tough showing. Jasmine pounded 1146 for Freedom, a strong effort from the reigning player of the week for the Eastern Hills region. Twinkie II popped 376 for the Specters, recovering some of the deficit. Stinky tacked on 735 more for the Cascades, as they run away with this game. Sydney scored 304 for Harrison, but the visitors continue to struggle. Roxy ripped 619 for Freedom, likely securing the win already. Brownie had enough time to tap a ball on her backhand three times for taking the wicket out for 52 points, giving the Specters a final of 887 in the loss. Nikolai had 64 to give the Cascades 2564 in the win, bringing the game to a quick end. Freedom improves to 9-7 at the quarter mark with a division win, while Harrison drops to 8-10 in a tough loss.

Amazon Field, Golden: The week ends with this battle of talented teams. Goldy began with 545 for Everton in another remarkable appearance for the captain. Valencia responded with 256 for Golden, and they will face an uphill battle this time, as do many of Everton's opponents. Puff III is starting to suffer from regression, taking just 84 for the Eagles. Dusty launched 954, giving the Pilots a critical lead halfway through the game. Cleo covered most of the deficit, scoring 449 for Everton as they attempt a rare comeback. Strut answered with 619 for Golden, extending their lead with the strong showing. Blizzard mounted a furious rally, picking up 640, but the Eagles still fell with 1718. A. Charlton iced the Pilots win with 777 herself for 2606 total. Golden has won five straight at home, and they now stand at 11-7, while Everton's eleven-game win streak ended as they drop to 14-2, providing a small hope for the teams directly below them.

Part 2 may be released as soon as tonight, if everything goes to plan.
