UPCL Cricket: Week 9 Part 1

The second quarter of the season gets underway now, with the first game being...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: Tigerette led off with a big 682 for Commerce, setting a strong tone early. Sally got a good portion of it back with 487 for Archtown, keeping them somewhat close. Ice Cream let the Tradewinds lead lose a bit of steam as she scored 279. Sleepy B. popped 670 for the Arrows, giving them a marginal lead as the game reaches halfway complete. Lionel picked up 527 for Commerce, putting them in the lead at least temporarily. Ruby hauled in 392, giving Archtown a narrow lead with a player each to go. Lorde faltered with 129 for the Tradewinds, and they are in a dangerous spot with 1617 overall. Dusky closed out an Arrows win with 233, giving them a total of 1782. Archtown is above water at 7-6, while Commerce slips again to 13-8.

McDonald's Pitch at Pirates Park, Atlantic: Spice could not wrangle in a fast-paced ball on her backhand, resulting in a score of 200 to lay the foundation for Victoria. Delila reacted too slowly to a bounced ball, and deflected it out of bounds to put up only 84 for Atlantic. B. Chapman suffered from having to lift every ball after the wicket got tossed forward, and she took 194 for the Spurs, in a feeble extension of the lead. Amber couldn't catch a break for the Pirates, as a high bouncing ball rattled her and cut her down at 148. Yekaterina stepped up and clobbered 930 for Victoria, giving them a highly stable lead. Americus got 603 of it back for Atlantic, but they face a long road with little time to make a comeback. Kavan stumbled with 129 for the Spurs, giving them a final score of 1453. Dominic hit a solid 320 for the Pirates, but they came up short at 1155. Victoria is surging now, up to 7-12, while bumping a middling Atlantic side to 11-10.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Center Division is on display as the Swifts look to sweep the Union at home. Juno belted 1277 for Modernistic, giving them a potentially unreachable lead as she matches her first six road efforts combined. Patches missed the flick on her backhand attempt, ending at 209 as it soared over the wicket out of bounds for the Boston captain. Ms. Puppy added 554 for the Union, securing the lead even more. Puff II responded with 632 for the Swifts, slightly shrinking the deficit. Chimpy slammed 868 for Modernistic, essentially guaranteeing the game at this point. Gradley mailed in 256 for Boston, admitting defeat in the face of very long odds. The Union capped a likely victory at 2851 with Puff I's individual 152 at the back of the lineup. Sweetheart hit 324 for the Swifts, and they took the loss with 1421. Modernistic is up to 7-8, snapping a four-game losing streak, while Boston sees a five-game winning streak halted as they fall to 14-8.

Capital City SuperCenter: The old quasi-rivals meet up again for their first match of the season. Panda started with 423 for Southern, a solid opening effort. Chris exploded for 1310, giving Capital City a definitive lead in this game. Shannon had far too much on her back swing for the Monarchs, skying a ball that ended her turn at 36. Missy took 152 for the Sharpshooters to maintain the lead. Kirstin dented the deficit by striking 608 for Southern, giving them a fighting chance late in the game. Sprinkles staggered to 105 for Capital City, as they appear to be cruising to the finish with a diminished lead. Nicole came close for the Monarchs, but her 443 put them at 1510, which left them at a loss. Dani had 176 to cap the Sharpshooters win at 1743. Capital City is level at 7-7 now, while Southern is down to 7-15.

Nestle's Warriors Park, Central: Snuggle churned out 647 for Oceanside, a bold start for a team that tends to have erratic offense. Twilight's double-tap on a ball put it just out of bounds, giving her a meager 69 for Central to build off of. Bells' misplay gave her only 21 for the Waves in a poor showing. Dustin faltered with 99 for the Warriors, but technically made up a bit of ground at the halfway point. Alyssa sliced 281 for Oceanside, restoring their lead a bit. Noelle proved patient for Central, rallying for 477 to get them a bit closer heading into the final players. Pounce posted 295 for the Waves, putting them at a far-from-secure final of 1244. Gizmo got jammed on the hands, taking only 66 as the Warriors lost with 711. Oceanside completes the upset to go to 6-7, but also 4-1 on the road, while Central's skid sees them to 11-7 after dropping the last three.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds seek a season sweep after a week 4 win in Infinity. Smudge got jammed and took a measly 21 for Infinity, who are off to an extremely poor start. Tigerette turned a very slow start into an impressive effort, clubbing 1199 to give Commerce a massive lead. Shelley took a meager 90 for the Torpedoes, as the game already appears to be out of their reach. Ice Cream lined 674 to further the Tradewinds lead, giving them a very safe total at the halfway mark. Gabe slapped a quick 400 for Infinity, to give them a more respectable score. Lionel allowed his wicket to be taken after a technical error, and he produced 521 for Commerce at the end of the turn, rejecting the optional replay. Whiskers got cut down with 285 for the Torpedoes, and they suffered a brutal loss with 796 after the bad bounces. Lorde had 800 points invalidated because she played through a technical error, and her mandatory replay gave her 160, leaving the Tradewinds with a still comfortable score of 2554. Commerce makes a statement victory to go to 14-8, while Infinity crosses the quarter line at 3-13, a terrible start for the well-hyped team.

The Intel Pitch, Diamond: The Prestige go on the road to look for a sweep after beating them Gems in their home opener. Acorn slugged 748 to give Lighton a large initial lead. Smokey fired back with 903 for Diamond, edging them ahead with an even better performance. Spirit picked a good time to break out of her road slump, ripping 505 to give the Prestige another lead. Citrus replied with 529, narrowly extending the Gems lead. Twinkie I failed to cover the deficit, hitting only 66 for Lighton. Pedey swung 487 for Diamond, keeping them going in the right direction as the final players step up to bat. Lydia's 82 sealed the Prestige's loss at 1401. Cassandra chipped 305 to give the Gems a final of 2224, successfully earning a season split by defending their turf. Both teams crossed the quarter pole in this game, with Diamond riding at 7-9, just a game back of the 8-8 Lighton side.

HP Field, Eastside: Two teams near the middle of the pack lock horns in this match. Kiwi hit a crisp 441 to get things going for Terrace City. Graham paid for his patience, as he got stalled at 225 while he waited for things to calm down just in front of his bat. Jennifer added another 409 for the Knights, maintaining their lead efficiently. Chelsea countered with 548 for the Sharks, pulling them closer in the competitive meeting. Oreo gave Terrace City a bit of room to work with, scoring 296 as they hold onto a tenuous lead. Taylor closed the gap a little more, posting 337 for Eastside as the game gets extremely close. Stripes crushed 806 for the Knights, setting a high bar for the hosts to eclipse as the Knights finish at 1952. Niki couldn't do it, taking just 66 to give the Sharks a losing score of 1176. Terrace City stands at 12-6 now after a game reminiscent of their early season dominance, while Eastside is down to 7-7 as they struggle for stability.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: Two of the league's best teams so far duke it out. Princess ended up taking only 192 after swinging too early, putting Tysini in a difficult starting position. Goldy continued to pump up her MVP candidacy, pounding 829 for Everton to take an impressive first lead. Leandra got stifled at 162 for the Hummingbirds, furthering the heavy deficit. Puff III swatted 529 for the Eagles, adding onto the lead effectively. Charli misread a floating ball, and it deflected off the back end of her bat, careening into the stumps to end her efforts at 400 for Tysini. Cleo kept the high-energy Everton offense intact, tacking on 769 to the lead as it reaches a likely untouchable level. The Hummingbirds saw only 225 from Bright, and they lost with 979, their fourth straight loss on the road. Blizzard locked up the Eagles win with 231 for a grand total of 2358. Chevrolet Field remains a fortress, as Everton is 9-0 at home at 15-2 overall, while Tysini drops to 10-6 at the quarter mark.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: Chris didn't have the best appearance, taking on just 186 for Capital City in a weak opening attack. Jasmine remained in form, batting 760 for Freedom to give them a sizable lead early in the game. Missy shrugged off 180 for the Sharpshooters as they face an uphill climb at this point. Stinky took only 200 for the Cascades, but their lead remains solid. Sprinkles faltered with a measly 87 for Capital City, as the deficit grows larger for them. Roxy failed to solidify the lead, getting shut down with only 8 points for Freedom. Dani rallied with 424 for the Sharpshooters, but it wasn't enough, and they lost with 877. Nikolai produced 330 to give the Cascades a final of 1298. Freedom gets revenge for an all-time bad beat-down earlier in the season, improving to 10-8, while Capital City falls to 7-8.

Amazon Field, Golden: Two teams looking to reestablish former glory finish off the first segment of the week. Smokey tried too hard on his turn, taking a mediocre 33 for Diamond to open the game. Valencia led off with 609 for Golden, giving them a strong lead. Citrus got 328 back for the Gems, but they face a steep challenge against a talented team. Dusty couldn't recover from mishandling a ball, getting stopped at 139 as the Pilots lead shrinks. Pedey only had 105 in response for Diamond, squandering a key opportunity to catch up. Strut lined 662 for Golden, extending their lead at an advantageous time. Cassandra had 490 for the Gems, but they still lost with 956. A. Charlton poked 160 to ice the Pilots win at 1570. Golden has won six straight at home, now at 13-7, while Diamond drops to 7-10.

Part 2 should arrive near the end of the week.
