UPCL Cricket: Playoffs Quarterfinals - Day 3

We're onto the worse-seeded teams' venues now for the next two posts. We begin with...

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The series has been tied so far, but the Cascades are not a good home team in these playoffs. Snowball started off a bit weak with 256 for Swordpoint to give them a modest start to the game. Jasmine couldn't catch up with a mediocre 215 for Freedom, and they'll start the game slightly behind. Dreamy faced a cluttered pitch early in her turn, but cleared it with a well-timed backhand and closed with a strong 485 to boost the Blades lead. Stinky launched 951 for the Cascades to put them well ahead at the halfway mark. Shawn couldn't cover the deficit with his solid 311 for Swordpoint, and they'll have work to do. Roxy stumbled a bit with a 50% penalty, ending at 176 for Freedom, as they continue to lead with a player each to go. Stealth collapsed with 57 for the Blades, and they lost with 1109. Nikolai closed strong with 392 for the Cascades, giving them a total of 1734. The Cascades lead the series 2-1 now, giving them a critical edge.

Verizon Field, Pacific: After a regular season in which the Eagles lost only twice at home, the Volcanoes dealt them two such losses in quick succession. Goldy slapped a firm 551 for Everton at the start of game 3, giving them a stable base. Starlight had only 192 for Pacific, letting them fall far behind early on. Puff III didn't help the Eagles much with a paltry 138 to add to their offense, weakening the lead. Ms. Kitty didn't get much back with 206 for the Volcanoes, but it's a small bit of progress. Cleo carved out another 415 to tack on for Everton, extending their lead nicely this time around. Jack hit 256 as Pacific lost a little more ground, making it look like they'll take a loss. Blizzard bounced out at 96 after an uncomfortable turn, and the Eagles finished with 1200 even. Leonette managed 258 for the Volcanoes, but 912 would not be enough for them, and they took the loss. Pacific still has a 2-1 series lead, but the series is more complicated for them now.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds come home trailing badly against a talented Swifts team. Patches opened with a solid effort this time, hitting 348 for Boston to lead things off. Princess pulled back with 457 for Tysini, giving them a slight edge. Puff II pummeled 686 in response to give the Swifts a stronger second lead. Leandra's nightmarish round continued, as she took a measly 64 for the Hummingbirds, putting them far behind at the halfway mark. Gradley left the door open a bit, faltering with a bad swing and then hitting too weakly on the backswing to put the ball out at 99, which didn't help Boston's lead very much. Charli was doing fine until she suffered a few odd bounces that forced her into simply shielding the wicket, which eventually caused her to bow out at 210 for Tysini, unable to cover the deficit. Sweetheart didn't help the Swifts cause at all, taking a 50% penalty and then scoring just 68 to put them at 1201 total. Bright failed to catch up, hitting just 193 for the Hummingbirds, and this put them at a loss with 924. Boston's on the verge of advancing with a 3-0 series lead.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige had what they'd call a successful road trip, and they hope to get a grip on the series as the Tradewinds come to their house. Tigerette had a very flawed start to this game, hitting only 108 for Commerce. Acorn had a pathetic 80 for Lighton in response, leaving the game very open at the start. Ice Cream popped 487 for the Tradewinds to give them a stronger second lead. Spirit replied with 513 for the Prestige, getting them within two points of the lead at the midway point. Lionel messed his turn up with only 190 for Commerce, leaving them vulnerable. Twinkie I answered with 393 to put Lighton in the lead with a player each to go. Lorde churned out 545 for the Tradewinds to put their final at 1330, far from safe but forcing a response from the hosts. Lydia fired right back with 661 for the Prestige, giving them the win on a final of 1647. Lighton leads the series at 2-1, with the gutsy win giving them an advantage they hope to hold onto.

More games tomorrow. The playoffs here and the pool tournament are going to come very close to ending at the same time this year.
