UPCL Cricket: Playoffs Quarterfinals Day 5

All series made it this far, so we'll have four more games, and at least three of them are guaranteed to reach a sixth game. We begin with...

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: This is one of the three series currently tied at 2, so this game will be critical for either team. Jasmine did alright in opening with 266 for Freedom, but it's not a strong start by any means. Snowball blasted 785 for Swordpoint in response, giving them a massive lead. Stinky failed to make much of an impact for the Cascades, hitting only 128 in a poor turn from the veteran. Dreamy poked 197 to add a small amount to the Blades lead halfway through the game. Roxy played very well, using good pace and angles to collect 402 for Freedom, putting a dent in the deficit. Shawn slipped with a meager 89 for Swordpoint, potentially leaving them vulnerable. Nikolai didn't take advantage, hitting only 96 for the Cascades as they take the loss with 892 total. Stealth didn't play well for the Blades, but his 157 iced the win at 1228. Swordpoint is on the verge of advancing with a 3-2 series lead.

Nike Field, Commerce: The Tradewinds have twice found themselves behind, only to tie it with the next game, and they hope they can get an upper hand here. Acorn stumbled with 144 for Lighton, leading off the game poorly. Tigerette has preferred home games in this series, and she swung 314 for Commerce this time out. Spirit continued her recent fade, hitting a weak 102 for the Prestige as they find themselves definitively behind. Ice Cream was victimized by an odd deflection, ending her effort at 184 as the Tradewinds track towards another low-scoring effort. Twinkie I covered the deficit this time with 499 for Lighton, making a game out of this battle. Lionel saw four balls take root on the pitch, and when an offering deflected off of them, he was unprepared, falling with 78 as Commerce trails with a player each to go. Lydia didn't do well with 119 for the Prestige, giving them 864 as their final, a vulnerable mark. Lorde did just enough to win, posting 309 for the Tradewinds as they rallied from behind to win with 885. Commerce has their first series lead so far, at 3-2, and it's a good one to have as they head back on the road.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Volcanoes excelled in this venue, but the Eagles have gotten their feet underneath them again. Pacific's Starlight rallied back from a strange start that saw four or five balls deflect back to the pitcher unhittable, and then she posted 450 to give the visitors a nice lead. Goldy answered with 535 for Everton, giving them a small lead. The usually steady Ms. Kitty bowed out with 30 on an odd bounce, and the Volcanoes are in danger now. Puff III ripped another 460 for the Eagles, extending their lead nicely. Jack had a swing go just a bit too early, producing a paltry 190 for Pacific as they're scrambling to get back in the game. Cleo pummeled 921 for Everton, likely securing their victory in this game. Leonette made an impressive counterattack with 691, but it was far too late to help the Volcanoes, and they lost with 1361. Blizzard had two false starts, ending with 37 after the 67% penalty, and this gave the Eagles a win on 1953. Everton has come all the way back to lead the series 3-2 after dropping the first two games.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: The Hummingbirds bought themselves another chance with a win last game, but they face a steep climb to the top. Tysini didn't get the start they wanted with only 36 from their captain Princess. Patches answered well with 329 for Boston, giving them the initial lead. Leandra pulled in 321 for the Hummingbirds, barely covering the deficit this time. Puff II chipped 295 for the Swifts, regaining a smaller lead for them at the halfway mark. Charli had a 50% penalty for a false start, but the Rookie of the Year bounced back with 223 on her turn anyway, closing the gap well. Gradley essentially matched it with 221 for Boston, keeping them in the lead as the final players come to bat. Bright also got called for a false start, ending at 200 for the Hummingbirds, and they lose with 780 total, leaving plenty of what-ifs due to the consecutive penalties. Sweetheart kept it simple with 112, giving the Swifts 957 in their win to advance to the semifinals with a 4-1 series win.

Three series will keep going. Depending on how many make it to game 7, we may split up the next two days of games, or combine them into one post.
