UPCL Cricket: Playoffs Quarterfinals - Days 6 and 7

We're going to combine everything today. All the teams that need to win have home games, but a road win here or there could put the better seeds through. First up...

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige have given the Tradewinds fits so far, but they find themselves behind in a tight series. Tigerette had a good pace but not enough longevity for Commerce, beginning the game with 361. Acorn's fatigue hasn't passed yet, and he had a measly 20 for Lighton. Ice Cream padded the Tradewinds lead with 488, giving them a much stronger second lead. Spirit shot back with 766 for the Prestige, covering a hefty portion of the deficit. Lionel shot back with 631, helping to keep Commerce firmly in the lead in this electric game. Twinkie I had a decent effort, pulling in 368 for Lighton, but they trail noticeably with a player each to go. Lorde tacked on 286 to bring the Tradewinds to a final score of 1766. Lydia fell with 336 after a strange two-ball hit left her bat out of position, and the Prestige dropped the game at 1490. Commerce takes the series 4-2 to advance to the semifinals against Center Division rivals in the Boston Swifts.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes started the series well, but have gone dormant since then, with the Eagles now trying to advance. Goldy had a weak start with only 57 for Everton, leaving them vulnerable early on. Starlight couldn't catch up, doing even worse with 42 for Pacific in a terrible start to the game. Puff III couldn't break the cold spell, hitting a pathetic 33 for the Eagles. The game continues to be the worst game in playoff history, as Ms. Kitty produced a minuscule 16 for the Volcanoes, with neither team in triple-digits at the halfway point. Cleo got taken down at 39 for Everton, creating a real sense of danger for them as one big effort could tip the game. Jack did just that, ripping 512 for Pacific to give them a late lead, although it's far from safe. Blizzard managed a paltry 184 for the Eagles, and they lost with 313, casting doubt on their abilities in this series. Leonette added 351 for the Volcanoes, and they won with 921 this time. The series is tied at 3, and since all sorts of unpredictable things have already happened, no one can no for sure what will happen when this series plays out in Game 7.

Toyota Pitch, Freedom: The Cascades are fighting for their lives in front of their home crowd. Swordpoint's Snowball is putting the team on her back already, smashing 879 to give them a massive first effort. Jasmine had a nearly perfect reproduction of the effort, blasting 874 for Freedom to make it a close game. Dreamy fired back with 953 for the Blades, keeping the offense in the stratosphere in this thrilling game. Stinky fell off the pace with 256 for the Cascades, disheartening the crowd. Shawn replied with an ample 399 for Swordpoint, keeping their lead strong in the later stages of the game. Roxy got 263 back for Freedom, but they are running out of time to save their season. Stealth went with a mediocre 225 to bring the Blades to 2456 overall, in what should be their clinching win. Nikolai made a valiant effort, clobbering 553 for the Cascades, but they fell with 1946 overall in a thrilling finish to their season, earning hearty applause from the long-suffering fanbase. Swordpoint advances to the semifinals on a 4-2 series win, awaiting the winner of the last game of the round.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: This game decides it all, with the only series of the round to reach game 7. The Volcanoes weren't expected to push the Eagles this hard. Starlight blasted 900 right off the start for Pacific, making it a stark contrast to game 6. Goldy couldn't settle herself, hitting just 36 for Everton as her slump continues. Ms. Kitty added 332 to the Volcanoes lead, and they are gearing up to complete the upset. Puff III provided some resistance to the visitors, swatting 490 for the Eagles to pull them into the game again. Jack faltered a bit with only 222 for Pacific, destabilizing their large lead. Cleo offered no challenge with a meager 16 for Everton, and they appear to be headed out. Leonette posted 327 to give the Volcanoes a final of 1781 as they anxiously anticipate advancing. Blizzard had only 359 for the Eagles, and the loss turned official as they ended with 901. Pacific pulls off the upset of the #1 seed, advancing themselves with a 4-3 series win.

The series for the Semifinals are #2 Commerce Tradewinds v. #3 Boston Swifts, and #4 Swordpoint Blades v. #9 Pacific Volcanoes. Games should start no later than tomorrow, with an anticipated round length of three calendar days.
