UPCL Cricket: Playoffs Semifinals - Days 3 and 4

We're doubling up the playing action to get the cricket season closer to completion. Here, we have the lesser seeds getting their first two games in for each series.

Verizon Field, Pacific: Game 3. The Volcanoes already established themselves with a good pair of road games to start the series. Snowball started off fairly well again, putting up 416 for Swordpoint. Starlight was a bit soft on her turn, going with 314 for Pacific as they'll start from behind once again. Dreamy just couldn't reach a ball that got over her outstretched backhand attempt and crashed into the wicket, ending her effort at 179 for the vulnerable Blades. Ms. Kitty knocked 480 to put the Volcanoes ahead at the halfway mark. Shawn had no trouble covering the deficit, batting 503 for Swordpoint to retake the lead. Jack replied with 541, making a small extension onto the Pacific lead as the final players come to bat. Stealth did his part, hitting 300 for the Blades to force a response from the hosts as they close with 1398. Leonette was far from brilliant, but her 176 lifted the Volcanoes to the win with 1511. Pacific leads the series 3-0, and it seems they've learned from their battles with the Eagles and Pilots. They'll seek a sweep the next time out.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: Game 3. This series has been tight early on, and that's expected to continue tonight. Tigerette floundered a bit, going at a good pace but for a short turn when she ended with 240 for Commerce. Patches hammered 624 for Boston in response, continuing to enjoy the first home game of each series. Ice Cream got a fair amount back with her 343 for the Tradewinds, but they're still behind. Puff II had a cluttered pitch and her swing got out of rhythm, ending her turn at 281 for the Swifts. Lionel slashed and crashed his way to 439 for Commerce, covering the deficit as the game gets a bit tight in its later stages. Gradley had a bad turn with only 112 for Boston, putting them five points back with a player each to go. Lorde made it a high bar to hurdle, clobbering 543 for the Tradewinds to give them a final of 1565. Sweetheart couldn't match it, hitting just 290 as the Swifts lose with 1307 overall. Commerce came from behind to get this win and make it 2-1 in the series for themselves.

Verizon Field, Pacific: Game 4 finds the Blades hanging by torn threads for the year, needing a win to stay alive. Snowball's back finally collapsed under the weight of carrying her team, hitting a meager 80 for Swordpoint this time. Her bowling was worse as well, allowing Pacific's Starlight to belt 602 as the hosts take a large lead. Dreamy couldn't find her swing in this appearance, taking a measly 62 for the Blades as their situation becomes even more dire. Ms. Kitty extended the Volcanoes lead handily with her 575. Shawn suffered a 50% penalty for his false start, giving Swordpoint only 148. The team is reserved to taking a loss. Jack tapped another 200 for Pacific, keeping their lead in check. Stealth finally showed up, making one last desperate rally, but his 529 left the Blades with 819, a total too low to prevent them from getting swept. Leonette practically matched that with 519 for the Volcanoes, and they finished the sweep with 1896 in the win. Pacific took the series 4-0, and they'll play for the Hutton Cup in the final series, with their opponent yet to be determined.

Coca-Cola Field, Boston: Game 4. The Swifts had a brutal loss in the previous game, but they look to retie the series. Tigerette looked to help that hope quite a bit, taking only 54 for Commerce as a ball popped awkwardly out of bounds. Patches slugged 1215 for Boston this time out, establishing a massive and likely untouchable lead from the start. Ice Cream fell with 177 for the Tradewinds, and they might just want to let this one go. Puff II crushed another 893 for the Swifts as they hold a colossal lead. Lionel didn't help Commerce at all, suffering a 67% penalty for two false starts and then producing 64. Gradley put Boston on cruise control, adding 276 as they're all but certain to win. Lorde collected 496, putting the Tradewinds at 791 overall in a brutal and humiliating loss only made better by being on the road. Sweetheart iced it with 128 to give the Swifts 2512 in a comprehensive win that might give them momentum as they head on the road again.

The rest of the Commerce/Boston series will be played tomorrow morning, and the finals will likely be published on Thursday as the cricket season wraps up alongside the pool tournament.
