The 10th day of the First Round is already here. Leading off...
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Blaze v. Bucco. The blue cue will make the start today, playing 8-ball. Infinity's Blaze had a sluggish start to game 1, which allowed Harrison's Bucco to play at a comfortable pace. At the end, Bucco won with a three-ball run-out to earn the 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Blaze looked to attack more in game 2, but that was shut down when the Specters' Bucco rattled off a seven-ball run-out for the win. Bucco clinched the series at 2-0. In game 3, Bucco didn't have a surge or a strong start. Blaze ultimately earned the win to avoid the sweep, but Bucco made the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Stephanie v. Nightfur. A competitive 7-ball series with the red cue is second today. Swordpoint's Stephanie wasn't as sharp as she needed to be in game 1, while Zenith's Nightfur buried a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Skywatchers' Nightfur went empty on the game 2 break, and the Blades' Stephanie immediately capitalized with a 1-7 combination to the bottom left. This tied the series at 1. Stephanie scratched on the 4 in game 3, and Nightfur answered with a three-ball run-out again to get the win. Nightfur won the series 2-1 and will visit North Modernistic Nighthawks strongman Lionel in the second round.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Twinkie III. The purple cue joins the party in 13-ball. Freedom's Nikolai had a good start in game 1, but Whitewater's Twinkie III pulled even late on a three-ball run. Twinkie III then missed the 8 and Nikolai tapped it in at the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Cascades' Nikolai had a strong start in game 2 and then finished with a three-ball run-out after the Shores' Twinkie III committed a stick foul. Nikolai sealed the series at 2-0. In game 3, Nikolai's strong offense and strategy baited Twinkie III into a late scratch that ruined her chances of a win. Nikolai swept the series 3-0 to earn his spot in the second round.
Apple Center, Todavía: Sierra v. Dreamy. The purple cue stays on for an 8-ball set between West Division foes. Todavía's Sierra began game 1 with a five-ball run before scratching. She added a three-ball run as Swordpoint's Dreamy tried and failed to catch up. Sierra then put the 8 in the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Sierra had an awful start in game 2, but she cleared it up with a big run at the end after the Blades' Dreamy didn't capitalize. Sierra secured the series at 2-0 with the win. Sierra made a push in game 3 after another slow start, but her six-ball run ended in a miss on the 8 at the top left. Dreamy tapped it in for her lone win, while Sierra moved on to the second round with a 2-1 series win.
Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Juno v. Ellie. The green cue activates for Accuracy. Stonebridge's Juno had a rough start in game 1, but she recovered a bit while Capital City's Ellie lost control late. Juno wound up with a 2-4 win to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Wolves' Juno had a tough turn in game 2, scratching on the break. She was great after that, but the Sharpshooters' Ellie stayed perfect for a 0-1 win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Ellie again stayed perfect. Juno grew frustrated at the end as she fell farther behind. Ellie won 0-3 in the game at 2-1 in the series to head to the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Cubby v. Fuchsia. The green cue goes again in 8-ball. Archtown's Cubby had a good start to game 1, and that paced his attack well enough to get the win in game 1. Infinity's Fuchsia was too slow on offense to stop Cubby from going up 1-0 in the series. The Torpedoes' Fuchsia again lacked pace in game 2, and the Arrows' Cubby capitalized on it with a five-ball run-out that ended with a bank of the 8 to the top right. Cubby clinched the series at 2-0 with this win. Cubby wasn't able to finish off game 3, as Fuchsia instead rallied late to get this victory. Cubby settled for a 2-1 series win and the right to host Modernistic Union mainstay Puff I in the second round.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Mr. Snowman v. Whiskers. The red cue is done for the day after 15-ball. Apex's Mr. Snowman thrived with good positioning in game 1, and that helped him win on an 8-15 combination to the bottom left for the 1-0 series lead over Maplewood's Whiskers. The Wonders' Mr. Snowman had trouble in game 2 with getting his offense going, but it cleared up when he made a three-ball run-out at the end. The Lumberjacks' Whiskers failed to mount a challenge as Mr. Snowman sealed the series at 2-0. Mr. Snowman didn't do so well in game 3, but Whiskers stepped up with a six-ball run to pace the play. She added the 15 at the top right for the win, leaving Mr. Snowman to advance to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Jane v. Twinkie I. Back east, the green cue draws in for 9-ball. Stonebridge's Jane had a strong turn in game 1 and picked up a win with a three-ball run-out. Pacific's Twinkie I had a decent middle, but Jane's finish gave the host a 1-0 series lead. The Wolves' Jane scratched on her attempt at the 9 in game 2. The Volcanoes' Twinkie I gladly cleaned it up from ball-in-hand for the win, tying the series at 1. Twinkie I dominated in game 3, but her five-ball run near the finish ended with a miss on the 9 at the bottom left. Jane poached the win with a tap-in to take the 2-1 series win with her to the second round.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Chimpy v. Sydney C. North Division rivals meet in 7-ball with the blue cue. Westside's Chimpy came up empty on the game 1 break, and Modernistic's Sydney C. deflected a shot off the 1 to sink the 7 in the bottom left for the quick 1-0 series lead. The Union's Sydney C. made a pair of the break in game 2. The Rockers' Chimpy replied with a three-ball run, but he left the 7 on the table, and Sydney C. sank it to the top side to secure the series at 2-0 with her win. Sydney C. couldn't finish a sweep in game 3, as Chimpy buried the 7 with confidence to get on the board. Sydney C.'s 2-1 series win is good enough to put her in the second round.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Nibbles. East Division rivals clash in 10-ball with the green cue. Web City's Nibbles couldn't find consistency in his shooting, and nothing loomed larger than his miss on the 10 in game 1. Pronger's Precious mopped it up to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. In game 2, the Tridents' Precious had slightly stronger command, especially as she made the final pair after the Spiders' Nibbles missed on the 9. Precious' win clinched the series in her favor at 2-0. In game 3, Precious continued to strong-arm her way on offense, and Nibbles didn't have an answer for it. Precious made a three-ball run-out to finish the 3-0 series sweep that booked her ticket for a hosting position in round two.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Rocky. The green cue is done after a 10-ball series between North Division foes. Oceanside's Rocky came close to finishing game 1, but his five-ball run ended with a miss on the 10. Whitewater's Katharine cheaply tapped it in for a 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Rocky had another choppy performance in game 2, and it ended with him missing the 10 at the top side. The Shores' Katharine again picked up the slack for the win, sealing the series at 2-0. In game 3, Rocky couldn't find much offense of any kind. Katharine continued to pace the play and she earned this win to sweep the series 3-0. Katharine will visit the Pronger Tridents' Precious in the second round.
T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Sage v. Sierra. The visitor's second series of the day sees the blue cue to its exit in 9-ball. Neither player established herself all that well in game 1, but Todavía's Sierra snagged a pair at the end for the win to go up 1-0 in the series over Victoria's Sage. The Stills' Sierra kept the pace similar in game 2, but she wasn't able to finish this one. Instead, the Spurs' Sage made the 9 to the top right at the end for the win, tying the series at 1. Another choppy battle saw Sierra flub her shot on the 8, allowing Sage to make a pair at the end for the win and 2-1 series win. Sage is set to host her appearance in the second round.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Cobalt v. Quincy. Club-mates clash in 7-ball as the silver cue enters the action. Modernistic's Quincy found some success with a four-ball run-out to win game 1 after Viewpoint Sound's Cobalt put in a lackluster effort. The Union's Quincy had problems in game 2 early on, but the Meteors' Cobalt wasn't consistent on offense. Quincy won this one with a three-ball run-out, securing the series at 2-0. Quincy made a pair on the break in game 3, but this time it was Cobalt who attacked well at the end to earn the win. Quincy still won the series 2-1 and will travel to Commerce to face the Tradewinds' Solaris in the second round.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Andrew v. Bandit. The purple cue is done for the day after this 15-ball set. Freedom's Andrew had a bad scratch late in a tense game 1. Swordpoint's Bandit followed up with a pair for the win to earn a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Bandit missed contact on the 4 in game 2, and that proved costly despite his strong start. From ball-in-hand, the Cascades' Andrew converted a 4-15 combination to the top left for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Andrew grew frustrated with the slow pace and took a couple of errors. Bandit ultimately got the win with a pair of shots at the end, and he won the series 2-1 to make it to the second round.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Puff I v. Noelle. The silver cue ends the day with Rotation. Modernistic's Puff I set the pace early and backed it up with a four-ball run later in game 1. Central's Noelle didn't get a second attack off, and Puff I won 8-4 for the 1-0 series lead. The Union's Puff I trailed badly in game 2 after the Warriors' Noelle took a commanding lead. Puff I then rallied from behind with a four-ball run-out at the end, claiming an 8-7 win to seal the series at 2-0. Noelle avoided the sweep in game 3 with an 8-5 win after a rough stretch from Puff I, who took the series 2-1 and will host Swordpoint Blades captain Dreamy in the second round.
We'll go again tomorrow with more action.
