We're back for another day of action, beginning with...
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Mams v. Blaze. The silver cue opens the day in 15-ball. Infinity's Blaze had a five-ball run in game 1 and then got lucky Swordpoint's Mams missed the 15 on her final turn. Blaze made a tap-in at the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Mams had a chance to make a push at the end of a close game 2, but her scratch allowed the Torpedoes' Blaze to make the final pair. Blaze sealed the series at 2-0 with his win. Mams had trouble with positioning in much of game 3, and Blaze capitalized with a 9-15 combination to complete his 3-0 series sweep. Blaze is in the second round.
Cisco Arena, Tysini: Charli v. Debby. Next up, the blue cue draws in for 13-ball. Tysini's Charli had a challenging distribution in game 1. Diamond's Debby had it a little easier, but she couldn't sink her last solid. Charli roared back with a double-pot, a kick and a squeeze play in a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Gems' Debby had some looks in game 2, and she again got down to her last ball before a miss at the top right. Charli had put in good work and made the final pair for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Charli did well to line things up in game 3, but Debby kept pace and picked off four shots in her last two turns to get the win. Charli advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Twilight. Staying in the southwest, the purple cue gets a look in 7-ball. Lighton's Citrus made a four-ball run in game 1, but she missed on the 6. Central's Twilight fired back with a pair for the win to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Prestige's Citrus had poor aim toward the bottom side in game 2, which cost her a lot of offense. The Warriors' Twilight made sure to capitalize with a four-ball run-out for the win, clinching the series at 2-0. Twilight nearly finished the sweep in game 3, but she made the 7 and scratched on the break to gift a win to Citrus. Twilight will play in the second round.
Sony Center, Queens: Violetta v. Prism. The silver cue cycles back in for Rotation. Pronger's Prism struck first in game 1, but Queens' Violetta quickly got ahead. Violetta then made a lucky five-ball run-out for the 8-1 win and 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Prism put up a stronger fight in game 2, but the Flames' Violetta never trailed as she grabbed an 8-6 win. This secured the series in Violetta's favor at 2-0. Prism's luck continued to be poor in game 3, as Violetta struggled early and then surged. Violetta double-potted the 9 to the top left and the 13 to the top right for an 8-2 win to complete a 3-0 series sweep to take her to the second round.
Intel Center, Diamond: Autumn v. Delila. The red cue gets its first series today in Accuracy. Atlantic's Delila faltered early in game 1 and never really got on track. Diamond's Autumn was much stronger and finished with a 1-4 win for the 1-0 series lead. A similar run of play in game 2 saw the Pirates' Delila have extended problems with making her shots. The Gems' Autumn stepped in for another 1-4 win to seal the series at 2-0. Delila had a better start in game 3, but her finish was problematic. She let the lead slip on the last ball and Autumn was able to win 2-3 to complete a 3-0 series sweep. Autumn will host Apex Wonders rookie Maren in the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Twinkie I v. Solaris. The blue cue checks out with this 8-ball set. Pacific's Twinkie I had a couple of chances to finish off game 1, but she couldn't corral the 8. Commerce's Solaris rallied with a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Tradewinds' Solaris got off to a good start in game 2 while the Volcanoes' Twinkie I spun her tires a bit. Twinkie I was too slow to recover before Solaris won with a pair at the end to clinch the series at 2-0. Solaris scratched on the break in game 3, and that helped Twinkie I. She took stripes, then finished a couple of turns later on a remarkable five-ball run-out. Solaris still won the series 2-1 to get into the second round. This was Twinkie I's 100th unique opponent.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Sprinkles v. Rachel. A veteran and a rookie clash in 8-ball with the silver cue. Both players had turns cut short early in game 1, but Capital City's Sprinkles showed veteran composure to bounce back with a six-ball run-out. She leads the series 1-0 over Whitewater's Rachel. The Sharpshooters' Sprinkles made a stripe on the break in game 2, but the Shores' Rachel fired back on an eight-ball run-out in response. Rachel's surge of offense tied the series at 1. Sprinkles was blocked off of many angles as Rachel set up good defense early on. She backed it up with a five-ball run-out to come from behind for the win. Rachel won the series 2-1 to get into the second round.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Cowzart. The host's second series today is in 13-ball with the red cue. Lighton's Citrus made two solids and a stripe on the game 1 break. She rode with solids, which led her to a win on a three-ball run-out after Apex's Cowzart couldn't play any defense. Citrus holds a 1-0 series lead. The Prestige's Citrus didn't find as much good fortune in game 2, as the Wonders' Cowzart was faster on offense and won with a three-ball run-out. This tied the series at 1. Citrus fouled in the middle of game 3 with an overfill, and that allowed Cowzart to spark his four-ball run-out for the win. Cowzart took the series 2-1 to get to the second round.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Kelsea v. Anna. Two rookies battle in 10-ball with the silver cue. Terrace City's Anna took no prisoners in game 1 with a five-ball run ended by an uncalled shot. Capital City's Kelsea got too fancy, and Anna added a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Anna didn't outright dominate in game 2, but she still got the win with a snipe on the 10 at the bottom right after the Sharpshooters' Kelsea missed it at the bottom left. Anna secured the series at 2-0. Anna seemed to lose her way a bit late in game 3, and Kelsea was able to pick up a pair at the end to get the win. Anna still won the series 2-1 to reach the second round.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Nikolai v. Nibbles. The red cue exits the day after a 12-ball series. Freedom's Nikolai surged off the break, but he took his time to set up a finish in game 1. Web City's Nibbles didn't press enough and came up short on defense as Nikolai won at the bottom right for a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, blunders defined the finish. The Cascades' Nikolai took himself way out of position trying to play defense. The Spiders' Nibbles then scratched a ball back onto the table, and he couldn't line up again before Nikolai earned the win and sealed the series at 2-0. In game 3, Nikolai made a four-ball run on solids early on. Nibbles had no real response as Nikolai cruised to the win and 3-0 series sweep to move into the second round.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Sydney S. v. Cheddar. The green cue is on for 8-ball. Boston's Sydney S. had a costly scratch in game 1, as North Modernistic's Cheddar replied on a three-ball run-out. Cheddar leads the series 1-0 after her strong win. The Swifts' Sydney S. made a four-ball run early in game 2, but nearly lost as the Nighthawks' Cheddar surged with six balls over two turns. Cheddar missed the 8, and Sydney S. buried a pair for the win to tie the series at 1. Cheddar couldn't string much offense together in game 3, and Sydney S. came roaring back after a slow start. She made all of her balls over two turns to get the win, and it'll be Sydney S. earning a place in the second round on a 2-1 series win.
McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Delila v. Maren. The host's second series today is in 7-ball with the purple cue. Neither player could maintain much momentum in game 1, but Atlantic's Delila took the win with a pair at the end for a 1-0 series lead over Apex's Maren. Game 2 saw a little more conviction in the shooting. The Wonders' Maren missed contact on the 5 and the Pirates' Delila answered the call with a three-ball run-out for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Maren salvaged a result from a slow game 3, making a four-ball run-out for the win. Delila advanced to the second round with a 2-1 series win.
Porsche Events Center, Zenith: Blizzard v. Puff I. The green cue is done after an 8-ball series. Modernistic's Puff I put too much faith into defense in game 1, and she couldn't make a big run for the comeback. Zenith's Blizzard held onto her lead for the win and 1-0 series lead. A mixed start in game 2 led to the Union's Puff I breaking loose at the end on a six-ball run-out. The Skywatchers' Blizzard didn't see it coming as Puff I tied the series at 1. A frenetic finish in game 3 saw Puff I make a four-ball run and miss the 8, followed by Blizzard seeing her three-ball run come up short. Puff I sank the 8 at the top side for the win and 2-1 series win to move on to the second round.
IBM Cathedral, North Modernistic: Gizmo v. Twinkie II. Reality club-mates battle in 10-ball with the purple cue. North Modernistic's Gizmo was cautious in game 1, while Harrison's Twinkie II took risks. The latter strategy paid off, as Twinkie II won on a five-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Gizmo loosened up a bit in game 2, but he was unable to finish a late run when he missed the 10 at the top left. The Specters' Twinkie II then banked the winning shot into the bottom left to seal the series at 2-0. In game 3, it was back to the old ways for Twinkie II, who won again on a five-ball run-out to sweep Gizmo 3-0 in the series. Twinkie II will play on the road again in the second round.
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Citrus v. Yekaterina. One more showdown from the West Division comes in 9-ball with the purple cue. Victoria's Yekaterina didn't get many looks in game 1, as a strong attack from Lighton's Citrus culminated in her three-ball run-out. Citrus leads the series 1-0. The Spurs' Yekaterina tried to get too fancy in game 2, and her deflection play left the winning shot lined up. The Prestige's Citrus banked the cue off the 1 to sink the 9 at the bottom left to secure the series at 2-0. Yekaterina salvaged a result by double-potting the 2 and the 9 to the right corners in game 3. Citrus settled for a 2-1 series win to advance to the second round.
That's all for today. There's more on tap for tomorrow.
