We're set for another day of games after an unscheduled day off. Leading off...
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Leonette v. Misty. The host's home doubleheader begins versus her own sister in Rotation with the blue cue. Pacific's Leonette knocked in a five-ball run early in game 1, and Westside's Misty wasn't given enough time to catch up. Leonette closed out an 8-2 win for the 1-0 series lead in a fast start. The Volcanoes' Leonette had a slower start in game 2, but the Rockers' Misty couldn't sustain her offense at the end. Leonette grappled for an 8-6 win to clinch the series at 2-0. No mercy was given to Misty in game 3, as a competitive battle ended with Leonette winning 8-6. Leonette swept the series 3-0 and will head to the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Leonette v. Paps. The player doubleheader ends in 15-ball with the red cue. Pacific's Leonette showed no fatigue in game 1, but her late four-ball run ended with a miss on the 13-15 combination. Zenith's Paps replied with a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Leonette tried a kick play off the 1 in game 2, and it worked to drive the 15 into the bottom left, but she also scratched. This gifted the win and the series at 2-0 to the Skywatchers' Paps. Leonette salvaged a result from game 3, sinking the 10-15 combination to the top left after a competitive battle. Paps still won the series 2-1 to earn a visiting position in the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Smokey v. Goldy. The venue tripleheader ends with the green cue in 13-ball. Pacific's Smokey made three stripes and a solid on the game 1 break. He was quick, but he still barely held off Everton's Goldy for the win at the end. Smokey leads the series 1-0. The Eagles' Goldy made a strong commitment on defense in game 2, but it didn't pay off for her. The Volcanoes' Smokey eventually worked his way to a tough win this time, sealing the series at 2-0. Smokey tried to finish the sweep in game 3, but he came up a little short as Goldy earned the win. Smokey won the series 2-1 and he'll visit the Infinity Torpedoes' Fuchsia in the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Sleepy B. v. Snowball. The green cue continues a long run with 12-ball. Archtown's Sleepy B. held off Westside's Snowball well at the end of a close game 1. Sleepy B. won with a three-ball run-out to claim a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. came close to a win game 2, but she was denied on her last ball. The Rockers' Snowball bounced back just in time for the win, tying the series at 1 with a pair. Sleepy B. had a chance at a finishing run in game 3, but she missed on the last ball. Snowball replied with a pair at the end, her gamble to remove defense paying off for the win and 2-1 series win. Snowball is set to play in the second round.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Twinkie III v. Isabella. The green cue takes a twirl in 9-ball. Whitewater's Twinkie III only needed two shots to win game 1, as the 1 went down on the break and her pinched 2-8-5-9 combination fell in the top left for the 1-0 series lead over Atlantic's Isabella. The Shores' Twinkie III had to put in more effort in game 2, but she was able to finish off a five-ball run-out, blocking off the Pirates' Isabella at the end. Twinkie III clinched the series at 2-0. Isabella had a surge late in game 3, but she was denied a bank on the 9 to the bottom left. Twinkie III mopped it up to finish the 3-0 series sweep that takes her to the second round.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Noelle v. Angelica. Along to 10-ball in another series with the green cue. A choppy game 1 went in favor of Central's Noelle at the end, giving her a shaky 1-0 series lead over Lighton's Angelica. Game 2 wasn't much better, as the Warriors' Noelle had a nightmarish time with errors early on. At the end, the Prestige's Angelica scratched on the 5. Noelle picked up a four-ball run-out after that, sealing the series at 2-0. In game 3, Angelica made a quick combination for the win to avoid the sweep. Noelle still won the series 2-1 and will visit Commerce Tradewinds newcomer Luigi in the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Chicky Phil. The green cue continues with a 15-ball series. Golden's Strut enjoyed a better pace on offense in game 1, and Midland's Chicky Phil wasn't able to capitalize on his late miss. Strut made four balls over the last two turns for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Strut didn't wait around as long in game 2, making a 6-15 combination to the top left to get the win and clinch the series at 2-0 over the Predators' Chicky Phil. Game 3 saw Chicky Phil get on the board as Strut couldn't finish it off. Strut still won the series 2-1, and he's set to visit the Harrison Specters' Snuggle in the second round.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Blaze. The green cue switches to Accuracy to end its run. Pearl's Neopolitan let her initial lead in game 1 slip away, but Infinity's Blaze narrowly missed his bank on the last ball to fall behind again. Neopolitan tapped it down for a 2-3 win and 1-0 series lead. The Surfers' Neopolitan made a ball on the break in game 2, but slipped off the pace later. The Torpedoes' Blaze was just good enough to get a 3-4 win, tying the series at 1. Neopolitan was nearly perfect in game 3, capturing a 1-3 win after a late chase on the last ball. Neopolitan beat Blaze 2-1 in the series to reach the second round.
FedEx Arena, Eastside: Rudolph v. Crystal. The purple cue's lone series today is in 12-ball. Queens' Crystal had everything set for game 1, but before she could sink her last ball at the top side, Eastside's Rudolph surged on a four-ball run-out for the win. Rudolph holds a 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Crystal did a bit better with defense in game 2, forcing the Sharks' Rudolph into awkward positioning. At the end, Crystal won with a shot to the top right to tie the series at 1. Crystal stayed true to her style in game 3, picking her moments carefully and just barely fending off Rudolph at the end. Crystal won the series 2-1 and will play a visiting role in the second round.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Maggie v. Andrew. The blue cue is up for some 13-ball. Modernistic's Maggie made a four-ball run off the break on stripes and played smart to maintain her lead. Freedom's Andrew never had the right positioning as Maggie claimed a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Maggie quickly got down to her last ball again in game 2, but this time the positioning didn't follow. The Cascades' Andrew responded with five balls over three turns for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Andrew rattled off a four-ball run in the middle. Maggie replied with a three-ball run-out at the end for the win and 2-1 series win to carry her into round two.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Josie v. Vincent. The blue cue goes again in Accuracy. Viewpoint Sound's Josie was able to force overtime in game 1, but she missed on the break in the extra rack. Everton's Vincent easily converted the 1 to the top side for a 2-3 win to take a 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Vincent made three balls on the break to speed up game 2. Both players were perfect until the Meteors' Josie scratched, allowing Vincent to finish with an 0-1 win to secure the series at 2-0. Josie couldn't quite hang onto the lead in game 3, and Vincent did just well enough for a 3-4 win to complete the 3-0 series sweep.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Panda v. Shiny. Club-mates battle in Rotation for the silver cue's lone series. A slow start to game 1 saw both players even through the first half. Lighton's Shiny took over after that, making a four-ball run-out for the 8-4 win and 1-0 series lead over Everton's Panda. The Prestige's Shiny put in another solid effort in game 2, but her shooting was choppy. The Eagles' Panda pulled off an 8-7 win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Panda had a much sharper attack, rallying to an 8-1 win for the 2-1 series win. Panda is headed to the second round.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Maggie v. Chimpy. North Division rivals battle in Accuracy with the blue cue. Modernistic's Maggie stayed perfect in game 1, while Westside's Chimpy dropped off the pace shortly after the middle of the rack. Maggie leads the series 1-0 on a 0-3 win. The Rockers' Chimpy again put in a good starting effort, and this time he was rewarded with a 1-2 in game 2 after the Union's Maggie slipped up late. This tied the series at 1. Maggie nearly returned to perfection in game 3, missing just the last ball in her 1-4 win for a 2-1 series win over Chimpy. Maggie will host the Diamond Gems' Debby in the second round.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Cowzart v. Lorde. The red cue exits the day in 15-ball. Southern's Lorde kept the pace of game 1 high, and Apex's Cowzart struggled to keep up. At the end, Lorde made a five-ball run-out for the win to earn a 1-0 series lead. Both players appeared to run out of gas in game 2, leading to a sloppy finish to the game. The Monarchs' Lorde was able to bury the last two balls for the win, sealing the series at 2-0 over the Wonders' Cowzart. Lorde nearly took game 3 as well in another lethargic battle. Instead, she flubbed her shot on the 15, and Cowzart tapped it down for the win. Lorde took the series 2-1 to earn her place in the second round.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Chicky Phil v. Chimpy. Both players' second series today is in 9-ball with the green cue. Wasted opportunities in game 1 cost Midland's Chicky Phil a result, as Westside's Chimpy took over late on a four-ball run-out for the win. Chimpy leads the series 1-0. The Predators' Chicky Phil again lagged on offense, and that allowed the Rockers' Chimpy to pick off the final pair for the win this time. Chimpy secured the series at 2-0. Chicky Phil couldn't lock down game 3 either, faltering late before Chimpy again made the final pair for the 3-0 series sweep. Chimpy booked a ticket to the second round.
As shown Monday, anything can derail the scheduling. Right now, the league should play every day until a questionable Sunday.
