We're ready to continue playing. It's a tougher slate of games on today, beginning with...
Ford Forum, Pronger: Potter v. Daisy. The purple cue is set to begin in 13-ball. Pronger's Potter had a decent start on stripes, but he couldn't finish it off at the end. Oceanside's Daisy took game 1 with a three-ball run-out built on strong positioning to get the 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Potter had everything but the finish in game 2, as the Waves' Daisy blocked him off at the top right. Daisy then outplayed his defense with the final pair of shots for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Potter took a turn toward dominance in game 3, allowing just one ball for Daisy. Potter got the win, but Daisy's 2-1 series win lines her up to visit the Southridge Defenders' Roxy in the second round.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Graham v. Rocky. The blue cue is ready to enter in 15-ball. Oceanside's Rocky had a small look at the 15 early in game 1, but his lack of supporting offense allowed Central's Graham to win with a deflection off the 5 to take the 15 at the bottom left. Graham owns a 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Rocky had a tough miss on the 8 at close range in game 2, and that ended up causing him problems. The Warriors' Graham won the positioning battle and then added the game by deflecting off the 9 to drive the 15 to the bottom right, giving himself a 2-0 series lead. Graham didn't let Rocky shoot in game 3. Graham had a ball on the break and won two shots later after a cluster-buster put the 15 in the top side. Graham swept the series 3-0 to get into the second round.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Blake v. Taylor M. The purple cue is back for this 8-ball series. Eastside's Taylor M. saw all of the early offense, but couldn't finish her late run. Freedom's Blake replied on a four-ball run and then added the 8 at the top right on the next turn to get the win and 1-0 series lead. Game 2 also went down to the wire, as the Sharks' Taylor M. made a four-ball run and the Cascades' Blake answered on a three-ball run before missing the 8. Taylor M. converted the 8 to the top left and tied the series at 1. Taylor M. didn't hesitate in game 3 with a five-ball run off the break. Blake was flat-footed on attack, and Taylor M. ran away with the win to take the series 2-1 en route to the second round.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Chris v. Pounce. West Division captains meet in 15-ball with the purple cue. Capital City's Chris made a push with defense early in game 1, but Southern's Pounce solved it with a six-ball run-out that ended with a 13-15 combination in the top right. Pounce leads the series 1-0. The Monarchs' Pounce carried his momentum through the middle of game 2, but stalled out there. The Sharpshooters' Chris answered with a five-ball run and then made the 15 on his next turn for the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 maintained a fast pace until the 15, which saw both players miss twice. Chris eventually put it away at the bottom left to get the win and 2-1 series win that takes him to the second round.
Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Dewey v. Sugar. The red cue activates with a 10-ball series. Stonebridge's Dewey found a three-ball run off the break, but Tysini's Sugar immediately shot back with a seven-ball run-out for the game 1 win. Sugar holds a 1-0 series lead. Both players made a commitment to defense later in game 2, leading to a tense finish. The Wolves' Dewey eventually made a 7-8-10 combination to the bottom left for the win, tying the series at 1 as the Hummingbirds' Sugar looked a little lost. Sugar played deflections quite well in game 3, making a four-ball run-out after clipping the 2 to send the 10 to the top left. Sugar beat Dewey 2-1 in the series to make it to the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Strut v. Chimpy. More 10-ball follows with the silver cue. Golden's Strut made a five-ball run-out off the break, ending with a 3-10 double pot at the top left to grab the 1-0 series lead over Westside's Chimpy. The Rockers' Chimpy made progress by getting a few shots in game 2, but he faltered with a missed bank on the 10 at the top side. The Pilots' Strut cleaned it up at the end, sealing the series at 2-0 with his win. Strut couldn't quite finish off game 3 after missing the 9 to end a four-ball run. Chimpy made the final pair to avoid the sweep, but Strut advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Stripes v. Hughbert. The green cue takes a turn in 8-ball. Southridge's Stripes struggled to make an impact in game 1, while TodavĂa's Hughbert had a fairly simple time. Hughbert won on a five-ball run-out to go ahead 1-0 in the series. In game 2, the Stills' Hughbert had one good push early on, but the Defenders' Stripes matched it and then won on a three-ball run-out. This tied the series at 1. Stripes started far too slow in game 3, and Hughbert made sure to close her out with a four-ball run-out for the win. Hughbert took the 2-1 series win to reach the second round.
Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Kelsea v. Salmo. The red cue returns to action in 13-ball. Diamond's Salmo cultivated a slight edge in positioning in game 1, and Capital City's Kelsea was unable to overcome that. Salmo took the win with three balls over his last two turns to go up 1-0 in the series. The Gems' Salmo made one of each on the game 2 break, then sank the 15 to the bottom side and the 8 to the top left on the next shot. This gifted a win to the Sharpshooters' Kelsea to tie the series at 1. In game 3, neither player seemed all that interested in successfully closing the contest. Ultimately, Kelsea picked up the win after Salmo flubbed a couple of chances on the 8. Kelsea won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Wings v. Shadow. The silver cue exits after this 15-ball series. Pearl's Wings was a little slow on offense, but Diamond's Shadow didn't pick up much of the slack. Shadow brought about an early finish when he double-potted the 7 and 15 to the bottom left and bottom side for the win and 1-0 series lead. There was a bit more pace on offense in game 2, but the result didn't change. The Surfers' Wings missed on the 10 and the Gems' Shadow converted a five-ball run-out to secure the series at 2-0. Wings butchered a shot on the 14 late in a slow-moving game 3. Shadow then made a pair for the win and finished his series sweep at 3-0. Shadow will visit Infinity Torpedoes sophomore Blaze in the second round.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Tigerette v. Twilight. Force is on full display in this marquee series with the purple cue in Accuracy. Central's Twilight never trailed in game 1, picking up a 2-3 win with a fair amount of confidence over Boston's Tigerette. Twilight owns a 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Tigerette hit the skids early in game 2, but she was sharp near the end. It was too late, as the Warriors' Twilight had just enough in the tank for a 4-5 win to seal the series at 2-0. In game 3, Twilight stepped back a bit and dropped off the pace late as Tigerette claimed a 2-4 win. Twilight still advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Toyota Arena, Freedom: Frosty v. Klaus. Players on new teams use the blue cue in 8-ball in an East Division battle. Freedom's Frosty had a rough start to game 1, while Central's Klaus uncorked a five-ball run. Frosty shot back with a five-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 lead in the series. The Cascades' Frosty couldn't get away with another slow start in game 2, as she lacked a run this time. The Warriors' Klaus had a scratch late, but recovered with a pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1. Frosty wove through the rack early on with a nice run, but she stalled out on the 8. Klaus gave her time to win, but she couldn't do it and he then added a five-ball run-out for the win. Klaus took the series 2-1 to get into the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Ms. Kitty v. Stephanie. The purple cue cycles in for Rotation. Pacific's Ms. Kitty had a better start to game 1, allowing her to hold off Swordpoint's Stephanie at the end. Ms. Kitty won the game 8-6 to earn a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Stephanie struggled to get good looks on offense in game 2. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty had no such problems and won with a three-ball run-out, her 8-2 win enough to seal the series at 2-0. Ms. Kitty wasn't able to activate on offense in game 3, and Stephanie rattled off a convincing 8-1 win. Ms. Kitty took the series 2-1 and will host again in the second round.
AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Patches v. Sunshine. The red cue is done for the day after this 13-ball set. Royal's Sunshine had less success pushing through defense than Oceanside's Patches, who bossed her way around the table in the win. Patches leads the series 1-0. The Waves' Patches made three solids on the break, but only two were legal, not that she noticed before taking another shot. The Crowns' Sunshine picked up a four-ball run after that and had an easy path to victory after that to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Sunshine couldn't get anything going and had to rely on positioning. He was too slow, and Patches made a three-ball run-out to take the series 2-1. Patches will host her second round series.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Blair v. Sydney S. The purple cue finishes its slate today in 7-ball. Apex's Blair nearly won on the break in game 1, but he ended up with little offense. Boston's Sydney S. made a three-ball run and then a 6-7 bank combination to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Swifts' Sydney S. made no mistake in game 2, sinking the 7 to the top side on the break to show the Wonders' Blair how it's done. Sydney S. sealed the series at 2-0 with the quick win. Sydney S. again dominated the offense in game 3, but she missed on the 7 at the bottom side, ending a four-ball run. Blair poked it down for the win, but Sydney S. is off to the second round with a 2-1 series win.
Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Pounce v. Rainmane. The green cue ends the day with 13-ball in the host's second series. Southern's Pounce kept things close with Midland's Rainmane in game 1, but Rainmane sank Pounce's last solid at the end. Pounce then put the 8 in the bottom side for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Predators' Rainmane had some chances to attack in game 2, but it took her too long to do so. The Monarchs' Pounce was quicker and nimble on offense to get the win that clinched the series for him at 2-0. Rainmane had her best chance at a win in game 3, but she left the 8 hanging for too long. Pounce swooped in late and won it, sweeping the series 3-0 on his way to the second round.
We'll go again tomorrow with another full slate.
