Everyone's active at this point as the second quarter of the First Round gets underway. Leading off...
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Hoppy v. Pauline. The blue cue is in action for Rotation to open the day. Archtown's Hoppy had some good luck early in game 1 and finished off an 8-5 win after Queens' Pauline made a late push with a three-ball run. Hoppy leads the series 1-0. The Arrows' Hoppy scratched on the break in game 2, and she couldn't keep pace later. The Flames' Pauline had a fairly easy path to an 8-2 win, tying the series at 1. In game 3, Hoppy had most of the offense, carving out a strong attack with good defense. Hoppy beat Pauline 8-2 and took the 2-1 series win to the second round.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Americus v. Daisy. The blue cue goes again in Accuracy. Both players brought their best in game 1, which went to overtime. Oceanside's Daisy got nothing on the overtime break, and Midland's Americus made a shot for the 1-2 win to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Waves' Daisy made another double-pot early in game 2, and it again cost her a look at the win. The Predators' Americus showed no mercy this time, a 0-2 win all she needed to clinch the series at 2-0. Americus wasn't able to complete the sweep in game 3, as Daisy played well in a 1-3 win this time. Americus still won the series 2-1 and will host a series in the second round.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Kacey v. Spice. A rookie and a captain clash in 7-ball with the blue cue. Both players made a three-ball run in game 1, and then both missed their first look at the 7. Royal's Kacey was able to put it down on her second try, taking a 1-0 series lead over Victoria's Spice. The Crowns' Kacey left no doubt in game 2, smashing the 5 and 7 into the top left on the break to get another win. This sealed the series at 2-0 in Kacey's favor. Kacey wasn't able to capitalize on a five-ball run in game 3, as the Spurs' Spice took the final pair of balls for the win. Kacey advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Goldy v. Citrus. The blue cue closes its turns today in 12-ball. Lighton's Citrus made a four-ball run on her first turn, but Everton's Goldy matched it on her next turn. Citrus couldn't recover in time, and Goldy made her last ball to the top right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Goldy had a pair on the break, but her late positioning was a letdown. The Prestige's Citrus started a little slower, but she got the win on a three-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Citrus scratched on the break in game 3, and she never had a chance to recover from that. Goldy won in three turns and took the series 2-1 to get into the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Jennifer v. Slinks. The silver cue enters the fray in Accuracy. Tysini's Slinks couldn't get calibrated in key moments, while Terrace City's Jennifer played to perfection for a 0-4 win in game 1. Jennifer leads the series 1-0. The Hummingbirds' Slinks put in a similar effort for game 2, but she was able to sneak away with a win after the Knights' Jennifer completely lost control at the end. Slinks got a 4-5 win to tie the series at 1. Jennifer made an impressive return to form in game 3, leaving Slinks with no room for mistakes. Jennifer won 0-3 this time and advanced to the second on a 2-1 series win.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Stephanie. Back east, the green cue is up for 13-ball. Everton's Cleo made one of each on the game 1 break, but she chose stripes. That proved wise, as Swordpoint's Stephanie struggled late with positioning while Cleo picked up the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Stephanie had a couple of looks at the 8 in game 2, but she couldn't haul it down before the Eagles' Cleo stormed to the win on a four-ball run-out. Cleo sealed the series at 2-0. Cleo had multiple chances at the 8 in game 3, but she also failed to corral it due to poor positioning. Stephanie made the comeback with a four-ball run-out for her lone win in Cleo's 2-1 series win. Cleo will host Royal Crowns captain Kayla in the second round.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Carly v. Celestia. The green cue exits the day with 15-ball between North Division rivals. Both players got their shots in game 1, but it was a late miss on the 12 by Westside's Carly that opened things up. Oceanside's Celestia stormed to a four-ball run-out from there for the 1-0 series lead. The Waves' Celestia started game 2 on a four-ball run, and that pressured the Rockers' Carly into a more physical playing style. Celestia held even at the end, snagging a pair of shots for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Celestia wasn't able to hold off defensively as well in game 3, and Carly won it with a 12-15 combination to the top left. Celestia still took the series 2-1 to reach the second round.
AT&T Hall, Oceanside: Patches v. Cleo. The visitor's second series today is in Rotation with the red cue. Oceanside's Patches took a large lead in game 1 after just two turns. Everton's Cleo came up far short of a comeback as Patches won 8-2 to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Waves' Patches put in a similar start in game 2, but she wasn't able to support it as much this time. The Eagles' Cleo created more offense and earned an 8-5 win to tie the series at 1. Cleo lost three points due to errors in game 3, and that proved quite costly. Patches surged late on a five-ball run-out for an 8-3 win to claim the series at 2-1. Patches heads to the second round.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Goatee v. Crystal. Inland again we go for 8-ball with the silver cue. A slow start came back to hurt Westside's Goatee, as she couldn't catch up after Queens' Crystal made a five-ball run. Crystal then put the 8 in the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Flames' Crystal didn't like the distribution on solids in game 2, but she nearly won the game anyway if not for a miss on the 2. The Rockers' Goatee led the whole way and held on for the win to tie the series at 1. Crystal enjoyed a big six-ball run early in game 3, and that paced her offense to the win in the end as Goatee struggled to find an attack. Crystal took the series 2-1 to reach the second round.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Tigerette v. Violetta. The purple cue gets today's marquee series in 9-ball between South Division rivals. Boston's Tigerette made pairs of shots on both of her turns in game 1, but Queens' Violetta answered the latter with a three-ball run-out for the win. Violetta leads the series 1-0. The Swifts' Tigerette had to weather an attack from the Flames' Violetta early in game 2. Tigerette then replied with a four-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Tigerette dominated in game 3, taking control with an eight-ball run-out to leave Violetta watching from the sidelines. Tigerette won the series 2-1 and will host again in the second round.
McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Steven v. Blair. The red cue cycles in again for 12-ball. Atlantic's Steven had a decent start to game 1, but Apex's Blair attacked with force. Steven held on with defense for a bit, but Blair was sharp on his last two shots to get the win and 1-0 series lead. The Wonders' Blair didn't have the same precision in game 2, which led to a lot of missed chances. The Pirates' Steven had no trouble countering it for the win, tying the series at 1 in the process. Steven quickly got down to his last ball in game 3, but he couldn't find positioning on it. Blair made the comeback with three balls over his last two turns for the win and 2-1 series win. Blair will visit Freedom Cascades strongman Nikolai in the second round.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Bright v. Diddley. The purple cue is done after this 10-ball set. Shaky play on both sides made for a long game 1. At the end, Maplewood's Diddley made three balls over his last two turns for the win and 1-0 series lead over Pearl's Bright. The Surfers' Bright showed up early in game 2 with a five-ball run, but the offense stalled out again after that. The Lumberjacks' Diddley eventually won with a poor deflection off the 5 doing just enough to get the 10 at the bottom side. This sealed the series at 2-0 for Diddley. In game 3, Bright put in a solid effort again early on, but Diddley carved out a three-ball run-out for the win this time. Diddley swept the series 3-0 and will play in the second round on the road. The two players were each other's 100th unique opponents.
Cisco Arena, Tysini: Sugar v. Taylor M. The silver cue gets another look in 12-ball. Tysini's Sugar couldn't get things organized in game 1, giving Eastside's Taylor M. enough time to overcome a scratch. Taylor M.'s win put her ahead 1-0 in the series. The Sharks' Taylor M. got exactly nothing out of her positioning in game 2, leaving her trailing for the whole game. The Hummingbirds' Sugar had no trouble capitalizing for an easy win to tie the series at 1. Sugar thought she had done enough on defense in a close game 3 battle, but Taylor M. was able to sink her last two balls without trouble to get the win. Taylor M. took the series 2-1 to advance to the second round.
Home Depot Forum, Web City: Wild Thing v. Lorde. The red cue exits after a Rotation series. A close battle initially in game 1 saw Web City's Wild Thing take hold of the lead over Southern's Lorde. Wild Thing closed out the win on a three-ball run-out for an 8-4 score and 1-0 series lead. The Spiders' Wild Thing didn't get much going in game 2. The Monarchs' Lorde needed only two turns to win, with a pair of four-ball runs giving her an 8-1 result to tie the series at 1. Wild Thing found a surprising four-ball run in the middle of game 3, and that staked him out to a lead. Lorde then scratched, and Wild Thing's next pair won him the game 8-3 and the series 2-1. Wild Thing is set to host his appearance in the second round.
GE Stadium Events Center, Southridge: Roxy v. Princess. The visitor begins a split-day doubleheader in today's finale, playing 8-ball with the silver cue. The two players exchanged big momentum shifts in game 1. It swung to Viewpoint Sound's Princess for a three-ball run-out at the end as she claimed a 1-0 series lead over Southridge's Roxy. The Defenders' Roxy led for much of game 2, but she didn't have much offense at the end. The Meteors' Princess put on a four-ball run-out, but the cue drifted to follow the 8 at the bottom right, with the scratch gifting Roxy the win. This tied the series at 1. Princess started hot in game 3 with a five-ball run. Roxy made some progress, but Princess finished the game cleanly this time for the win and 2-1 series win to move into the second round.
That's all for today. We're planning on playing tomorrow, but it may become a split day across Monday if scheduling doesn't work out.
