We're ready for another day of games. First up...
Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Angelica v. Hoppy. The silver cue gets the start today in a 7-ball series. Lighton's Angelica struggled early in game 1, as Archtown's Hoppy made a five-ball run with confidence. At the end, Angelica picked off a pair for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Hoppy couldn't recover her pace in game 2, instead chipping in smaller offense. The Prestige's Angelica fought her off and won with a bank of the 7 to the bottom side to clinch the series at 2-0. Hoppy had a dominant offense in game 3, making all seven balls over two turns after Angelica couldn't find offense. Angelica won the series 2-1 to get into the second round.
Intel Center, Diamond: Autumn v. Twilight. Today's second series is in 12-ball with the red cue. Diamond's Autumn had a rather poor game 1, scratching twice and adding an illegally potted ball. Central's Twilight had already ripped a four-ball run early and took her time on the last ball to the top right to get the win and 1-0 series lead. The Warriors' Twilight made a pair on the break in game 2, but her positioning after that was poor. The Gems' Autumn had a much easier time on offense to earn the win, tying the series at 1. Twilight had a good start in game 3, but she faded late. Autumn stepped up at the right time with a four-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win. Autumn will host a series in the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Dusty v. Kayla. South Division rivals meet in 7-ball with the green cue. Golden's Dusty made a positive start in game 1, but Royal's Kayla found the win with a three-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead. Both players took looks at deflections on the 7, but it was the Pilots' Dusty who later cashed in with a 4-7 combination to the top left to beat the Crowns' Kayla. The series is now tied at 1. Dusty had a good start again in game 3, but scratched as she made the 4. Kayla took the ball-in-hand for a three-ball run-out to get the 2-1 series win, and it's Kayla who will go to the second round.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Gradley v. Dreamy. The silver cue is back in action for this Rotation series. An outrageously slow start to game 1 eventually saw both players get on track. Boston's Gradley won 8-5 with a five-ball run-out after Swordpoint's Dreamy couldn't find a second burst of offense. Gradley leads the series 1-0. The Blades' Dreamy didn't have one big attack in game 2, instead chipping in small offense. She sent the cue off the table while making a jump on the 12, but the Swifts' Gradley failed to close out the effort and Dreamy won 8-7 to tie the series at 1. Dreamy was much more effective on offense in game 3, rallying to an 8-3 win to beat Gradley 2-1 in the series. The comeback upset puts Dreamy on the road again in the second round.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Prism. Tridents teammates clash in 12-ball with the purple cue in today's top series. Game 1 saw Precious got off to a hot start, but Prism was defensive at the right corners. At the end, Prism rallied on a five-ball run-out to get the win for a 1-0 series lead. Precious had a better look early in game 2, but two errors ended up stalling out her offense. Prism rallied again, this time winning on a three-ball run-out to secure the series at 2-0. In game 3, Precious got as close as she's been to a win, only for Prism to sink a pair at the end to get the win. Prism swept the series 3-0 and will be a visitor for real in the second round.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Chimpy v. Luigi. The red cue is back for an 8-ball set. Westside's Chimpy had the better start in game 1, but Commerce's Luigi bounced back later with six balls over two turns. Luigi then won with the 8 in the top left to go ahead 1-0 in the series. The Tradewinds' Luigi was a little slow to start in game 2, while the Rockers' Chimpy picked up his pace just fine. Chimpy made a pair at the end for the win to tie the series at 1. Luigi couldn't get anything going in game 3, and Chimpy was able to walk away with a fairly easy win and 2-1 series win to get into the second round. This was Chimpy's 100th unique opponent.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Mr. Snowman v. Fuchsia. The blue cue enters the action in 9-ball. A chippy game 1 saw both players struggle to gain momentum. At the end, Apex's Mr. Snowman whiffed on the 9 before Infinity's Fuchsia sunk it at the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Fuchsia got a nice start in game 2, but nearly lost when the Wonders' Mr. Snowman rattled off a three-ball run before his miss on the 9. Fuchsia then tapped in the 9 at the bottom left to seal the series at 2-0. Mr. Snowman again made a brutal mistake with a scratch to end a late three-ball run. Fuchsia replied with the 9 in the top left for the win and 3-0 series sweep she'll ride to the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Paps. The purple cue exits the day with 12-ball. Terrace City's Kiwi opened with a four-ball run, but Zenith's Paps matched it immediately. Game 1 went to Paps as he was faster to make his final pair for the 1-0 series lead. The Skywatchers' Paps pushed hard at the start of game 2, but he wasn't able to capitalize later. The Knights' Kiwi defended with positioning before sinking her last ball at the top side to tie the series at 1 with her win. A competitive game 3 saw Kiwi hold a lead for most of it until Paps rallied on a three-ball run-out to get the win. Paps took the series 2-1 to move into the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Oreo v. Summer. The venue doubleheader ends with the green cue in 7-ball. Terrace City's Oreo attacked early with a four-ball run and won with the final pair on her next turn after Maplewood's Summer missed on the 6. Oreo leads the series 1-0. Game 2 was a choppy battle as the Knights' Oreo lost her pace on offense. The Lumberjacks' Summer was able to get the win after Oreo scratched while making the 6. Summer had a chance to close out game 3, but left the 7 wide of the top left. Oreo tapped it down, taking a sloppy win to win the series 2-1 and earn her place in the second round.
Google Hall, Modernistic: Ms. Puppy v. Dusky. Staying in the North, the green cue shoots Accuracy. Modernistic's Ms. Puppy had an ill-timed scratch late in game 1, and Atlantic's Dusky handled things at the end to earn a 2-3 win. Dusky owns a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Ms. Puppy was a little less competitive in game 2, falling behind early and never catching up. Dusky held on again for another 2-3 win to secure the series at 2-0. Ms. Puppy avoided the sweep despite making no improvement in game 3. Dusky faltered late as Ms. Puppy took a 3-4 win, but Dusky won the series 2-1 to book her ticket to the second round.
Kraft Forum, Royal: Kayla v. Kelsea. The host's second series today is in 15-ball with the silver cue. Royal's Kayla started well before neither player found much joy in the middle of game 1. At the end, Capital City's Kelsea sank a three-ball run-out capped by a 14-15 combination to the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Sharpshooters' Kelsea struggled early in game 2, including a tough scratch on a follow shot. The Crowns' Kayla stabilized in the middle for a four-ball run-out, which ended with a glance off the 6 to sink the 15 at the bottom side. The series is tied at 1. Another deflection gave Kayla the win in game 3 after Kelsea tried the same shot and failed. Kayla knocked a play off the 3 to get the 15 at the top left for the 2-1 series win and the right to host a second round series.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Neopolitan v. Puff III. Club-mates meet in 15-ball as the blue cue exits the day. A strong pace to game 1 apparently favored Pearl's Neopolitan, who closed out the win with a four-ball run-out for the 1-0 series lead over Everton's Puff III. The Surfers' Neopolitan had a solid push in game 2 as well, but it didn't work out in the end. The Eagles' Puff III was slick with a double-pot of the 8 and 15 to the left corners, tying the series at 1. Puff III continued to struggle at times in game 3, but she regained her composure at the end for a four-ball run-out and the win. Puff III beat Neopolitan 2-1 in the series to go to the second round.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Snuggle v. Americus. The green cue is done after this 8-ball set. Midland's Americus had a chance to win game 1, but she botched her play on the 8. Harrison's Snuggle made an unlikely comeback with a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Snuggle didn't keep up his pace very well in game 2. The Predators' Americus found another surge, winning on a five-ball run-out to tie the series at 1. Snuggle got onto the 8 quickly in game 3, but he was a little too cautious in his approach to the finish. Eventually, Americus rattled off a seven-ball run-out to steal the win and 2-1 series win. Americus heads to the second round.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Dani v. Wings. North Division rivals meet in 9-ball with the red cue. Viewpoint Sound's Dani brought the home fans to their feet in game 1, running the table for a 1-0 series lead over Pearl's Wings. In game 2, the Meteors' Dani skipped the theatrics and simply made the 5 to the bottom left and the 9 to the top side on the break to get the win that clinched the series at 2-0. The Surfers' Wings didn't get a shot while he was still able to win the series. Wings did get to the table in game 3, but he wasn't able to stop a five-ball run-out Dani put together to complete a dominant 3-0 series sweep. Dani will head to the second round.
Coca-Cola Field Exhibition Center, Boston: Ice Cream v. Hershey. The red cue ends the day in Rotation. Boston's Ice Cream faltered too often in game 1, while Stonebridge's Hershey played fairly steady in his 8-4 win. Hershey leads the series 1-0. The Wolves' Hershey wasn't as sharp in game 2, and it showed when his halfhearted comeback came up short. The Swifts' Ice Cream did enough to hang on for an 8-5 win, tying the series at 1. In game 3, Ice Cream's offense went back to quiet. Hershey took over at the end and picked up an 8-3 win for the 2-1 series win to put himself in the second round.
We press onward tomorrow with another full day.
