A new day of games is on. We begin with...
Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fuchsia v. Sydney C. The green cue starts today in 10-ball. Modernistic's Sydney C. put up a quick finish in game 1, cutting a 5-10 combination to the top left after Infinity's Fuchsia faltered on offense. Sydney C. has a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, the Union's Sydney C. lacked command on her shots. A bad miss on the 5 eventually led to the Torpedoes' Fuchsia burying a five-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Fuchsia made a pair on the break but couldn't sustain her offense. Sydney C. replied with a four-ball run-out at the end to win the series 2-1 and earn her place in the second round versus the winner of the next series.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Josie v. Leandra. The green cue gets another 10-ball series. A back-and-forth game 1 saw Viewpoint Sound's Josie strong at the start and the finish for a win and 1-0 series lead over Tysini's Leandra. The Meteors' Josie had a three-ball run near the end of game 2, but her strong effort went to waste when she scratched. The Hummingbirds' Leandra took the 10 to the bottom right from ball-in-hand for the win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, it was Leandra who suffered a late scratch. Josie made no mistake in sinking the final two balls for the win and 2-1 series win that allows her to host Modernistic Union veteran Sydney C. in the second round.
HP Field Events Center, Midland: Kitty v. Cheddar. After this 15-ball series, the green cue makes a quick exit. Midland's Kitty had some good play in game 1, but she came up short at the end. North Modernistic's Cheddar got lucky to make the 14 at the bottom left, then added the 15 in the bottom side for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Cheddar made three balls on the break and continued to push the pace in game 2. The Predators' Kitty had her moments, but she couldn't finish it off. Cheddar won with the 15 in the top left to clinch the series at 2-0. Cheddar tried to keep pace in game 3, but she got frustrated a bit. Kitty eventually rattled off a five-ball run-out for the win to avoid the sweep as Cheddar advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Midnight v. Cubby. The silver cue draws in for 9-ball. A close battle in game 1 saw Archtown's Cubby get a little lucky with positioning at the end. He made a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead over Apex's Midnight. The Arrows' Cubby tried to make a push in game 2 with another three-ball run, but he flubbed his look at the 9. The Wonders' Midnight buried it to the top right for the win, tying the series at 1. In game 3, both players wasted some opportunities. None was worse than Midnight's butcher job on the 8 at the bottom left, which allowed Cubby to make the final pair for the win. Cubby took the series 2-1 and will remain on the road in the second round. This was Midnight's 100th unique opponent.
BMW RockDome, Westside: Snowball v. Lionel. North Division rivals slash in 10-ball with the purple cue. North Modernistic's Lionel surged late in game 1 with a four-ball run, but he couldn't collect the 10 on a bank to the bottom right. Instead, Westside's Snowball banked the 10 to the top side for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Nighthawks' Lionel again tried to bring a fancy finish in game 2, but he missed the 7-10 combination to the bottom left that the Rockers' Snowball converted on the next shot. Snowball's timely finishes sealed the series in her favor at 2-0. In game 3, Lionel pushed again but faltered late, while Snowball picked up a pair of shots for the win and 3-0 series sweep. Snowball will play in the second round, while Lionel revealed post-series that he is battling a minor wrist injury on his base hand.
Subway Arena, Stonebridge: Hershey v. Sprinkles. The red cue activates for a series of Accuracy. Stonebridge's Hershey nearly made a mess of game 1 after blowing a lead in regulation. In overtime, Capital City's Sprinkles couldn't make a ball after Hershey's soft break, and Hershey won 5-6 on the second turn of the extra rack to take a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, the Wolves' Hershey skipped the theatrics at the end and earned the 1-2 win, narrowly besting the Sharpshooters' Sprinkles again. Hershey again wasted a lead in game 3, and this time he let it slip all the way away in overtime as Sprinkles claimed a 2-3 win. Hershey won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Kiwi v. Taylor S. The purple cue is done for the day with this 10-ball series. Both players had a hot start and a rough finish in game 1. Commerce's Taylor S. looked for late momentum, but she missed on the 10 and Terrace City's Kiwi sent it to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Knights' Kiwi missed contact on the 3 in game 2, and that proved costly. From ball-in-hand, the Tradewinds' Taylor S. launched a three-ball run-out that ended with a 5-10 combination at the bottom side. This tied the series at 1. After a long battle in game 3, Kiwi prevailed late with the win and 2-1 series win to advance to the second round over Taylor S.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Hoppy v. Fluffina. The blue cue joins the party in 13-ball. Archtown's Hoppy looked a little confused after making a stripe on the break in game 1. Infinity's Fluffina seized the opportunity and pulled ahead, maintaining a lead to the finish for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Torpedoes' Fluffina got close to the win in game 2, but her positioning on her last ball wasn't great. The Arrows' Hoppy rallied all the way back for the win, tying the series at 1. Fluffina again struggled with positioning, this time early in game 3. She didn't have time to recover, as Hoppy applied enough pressure to earn the win. Hoppy took the series 2-1 and will host a series in the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Oreo v. Puff III. Back west, the blue cue plays a 9-ball set. Terrace City's Oreo solved game 1 after Everton's Puff III made illegal contact while sinking the 3. Oreo used the ball-in-hand for a 4-9 combination to the bottom left, going up 1-0 in the series when she converted it. The Eagles' Puff III flubbed a shot in the middle of game 2, allowing the Knights' Oreo to engage with a four-ball run. Oreo then narrowly missed the 9, and Puff III kicked it into the top right for the win to tie the series at 1. Puff III completed the comeback, taking a three-ball run-out in game 3 to get by Oreo at the end. Puff III won the series 2-1 and will visit Todavía Stills star Ruby in the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Hoppy v. Cleo. The host's second series today is an East Division showdown in 8-ball with the red cue in its last series. A warmed up Archtown's Hoppy easily handled game 1, as Everton's Cleo scratched before she made a ball. Hoppy added a three-ball run and sank the 8 to the bottom side on the next turn for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Hoppy nearly cruised to a win in game 2 as well, but she got slowed down on the 8. The Eagles' Cleo had just enough time to catch up and earn the win, tying the series at 1. Game 3 saw Cleo get a good break at the start, but Hoppy stayed with it. In the end, Hoppy banked the 8 to the top left for the win and 2-1 series win that puts her in line to host a series in the second round.
Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Greg v. Jennifer. The venue doubleheader ends with 12-ball and the silver cue. Terrace City's Jennifer had trouble converting her shots in game 1, allowing Archtown's Greg to get away with a sloppy win for the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 came down to the wire, and it was a battle of positioning in the end. The Arrows' Greg was left to shoot desperately at his last ball, while the Knights' Jennifer was patient to collect the win on the right shot. This tied the series at 1. Jennifer got off to a good start in game 3, but Greg was able to slow her down with defense. At the end, Jennifer made Greg's last ball for him, and Greg took the 2-1 series win into a hosting position in the second round.
Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Bucco v. Leandra. The silver cue stays active in 13-ball. Harrison's Bucco made the right choice to pick up stripes in game 1. Tysini's Leandra had little answer on offense, and Bucco cruised to the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Specters' Bucco again maximized his positioning in game 2, keeping things in place fairly well while the Hummingbirds' Leandra scattered shots wide across the table. Bucco's strong play earned him another win to secure the series at 2-0. In game 3, Bucco made one of each on the break. He chose to roll with solids, and that was again the right decision as he picked up a fairly easy win for the 3-0 sweep over Leandra. Bucco is set to host an appearance in the second round.
Mitsubishi Arena, Apex: Blair v. Quincy. The blue cue finishes its turns today in 8-ball between North Division rivals. Modernistic's Quincy was too slow in attack in game 1, and by the time he got going, Apex's Blair was already on the 8. Blair took a fairly easy win for a 1-0 series lead. The Union's Quincy did a bit better in game 2 with a five-ball run, but he couldn't sink his last ball. The Wonders' Blair was there to clean up a pair of shots at the end for the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Quincy couldn't muster very much offense in game 3, and Blair was slow at first before picking up the pace late. Blair completed his 3-0 series sweep and will host Central Warriors newcomer Klaus in the second round.
Apple Center, Todavía: Easter v. Molly. West Division foes clash in 12-ball with the silver cue. Todavía's Easter had a good start in game 1, but Southern's Molly almost rallied all the way back for the win. Instead, she had a late miss, and Easter sank her last ball for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Stills' Easter burst out on offense in game 2 again, but this time she couldn't corral the 13 at the bottom right. The Monarchs' Molly rallied back with a pair of three-ball runs to earn the win, tying the series at 1. Molly made a ball on the break in game 3, but her positioning was awful after that. Easter was able to push unchallenged for the win to claim a 2-1 series win that sends her into round two.
Porsche Events Center, Zenith: Paps v. Sprinkles. Former teammates meet in 7-ball with the silver cue to end the day. Zenith's Paps found a three-ball run in game 1, but his miss on the 5 was costly. Capital City's Sprinkles potted a three-ball run-out to get the win and a 1-0 lead in the series. The Sharpshooters' Sprinkles had an unremarkable break in game 2. The Skywatchers' Paps replied later in the game with a six-ball run-out, a storming push to the win to tie the series at 1. Tension rose in game 3 as neither player wanted to falter. Paps failed at that goal, scratching as he made the 6 while Sprinkles took an easy finish for a 2-1 series win. Sprinkles is set to play in the second round.
We'll go again tomorrow to bring the First Round to quarter-completion.
