The exact details for today's action aren't determined, but the green cue won't feature. We'll begin with...
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Princess v. Luigi. The red cue starts the day in 9-ball. Viewpoint Sound's Princess started and finished well in game 1, taking a pair of three-ball runs to offset one such attack from Commerce's Luigi. Princess leads the series 1-0. The Meteors' Princess opened game 2 on a four-ball run before a shaky middle. The Tradewinds' Luigi had some trouble with a scratch, and Princess made the final pair from ball-in-hand to seal the series at 2-0. Princess wasn't as sharp in game 3, and Luigi capitalized on it late when she missed on the 9. Princess still took the series 2-1 and will visit Infinity Torpedoes sophomore Blaze in the second round.
Volkswagen BeetleDome, Viewpoint Sound: Hoot v. Stephanie. The venue doubleheader ends with 8-ball and the purple cue. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot attacked early but faltered late in game 1. That, combined with Swordpoint's Stephanie surging late on a five-ball run and three-ball run-out, resulted in the visitor taking the win for a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Stephanie followed up with a three-ball run and a four-ball run early in game 2. Twice needing to get his offense going, the Meteors' Hoot rattled shots out that denied him from starting a run. Stephanie then sank the 8 to the bottom left to get the win that clinched the series at 2-0. Stephanie made a four-ball run in game 3, but Hoot answered on a six-ball run-out to get his lone win. Stephanie's 2-1 series win puts her in a visiting position in the second round.
Ford Forum, Pronger: Precious v. Molly. A mother and daughter series is up in 15-ball with the blue cue. Pronger's Precious had the better of the offense in game, including a double-pot of the 12 to the bottom side and the 15 to the top left at the end of game 1. This gave her a 1-0 series lead over Southern's Molly. The Tridents' Precious saw a lot of luck to make so many shots in game 2, but her errors caught up to her at the end. The Monarchs' Molly sank the final pair from ball-in-hand for the win to tie the series at 1. Precious worked well in tight spaces to build up a four-ball run-out that ended with a 5-15 combination from distance to the top right. She won the series 2-1 over Molly to get into a hosting position in the second round.
Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Ms. Kitty v. Graham. The red cue cycles in again for 9-ball. Central's Graham carved out a four-ball run in the middle of game 1, but his scratched allowed Pacific's Ms. Kitty to sink the final pair from ball-in-hand. Ms. Kitty holds a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Ms. Kitty had a pair of three-ball runs in game 2, but lacked command at the end of the battle. The Warriors' Graham snagged a pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1. Graham nearly blundered twice early in game 3, but the game went to the finish. Ms. Kitty made the 9 to the bottom left on her second try to win the series 2-1 and earn her place in the second round.
Gillette Center, Swordpoint: Stealth v. Pauline. The blue cue draws in on 12-ball. Queens' Pauline came up a little short in game 1, missing on her second-to-last ball. Swordpoint's Stealth had already put in a good effort with positioning to get the win and a 1-0 series lead. The Blades' Stealth again played good defense in game 2, blocking the Flames' Pauline completely at the bottom side. Pauline's desperate attempt to get free failed, and Stealth collected the win to clinch the series at 2-0. Pauline put in her best effort in game 3 and got down to her last ball, but Stealth closed her out with a pair of hard cut shots to complete his 3-0 series sweep. Stealth will host again in the second round.
Audi Hall, Terrace City: Melissa v. Ingrid. The silver cue's first look today comes in Accuracy. A tight game 1 saw Terrace City's Melissa slip up twice in the middle. Southridge's Ingrid limited her damage to one late miss for a 1-2 win and 1-0 series lead. The Defenders' Ingrid made a pair on the break in game 2, but one miss in the middle was all it took for her to end up with a loss. The Knights' Melissa was perfect in a 0-1 win to tie the series at 1. Melissa made a pair on the game 3 break, but she took the early miss. At the end, Ingrid ended the game with a double-pot for her 0-1 win to take the series 2-1. Ingrid will play on into the second round.
Nike Field Events Center, Commerce: Bear v. Hoot. The purple cue exits after a turn in 13-ball. Commerce's Bear was sharp early, but a scratch slowed him down in game 1. Viewpoint Sound's Hoot had a steady level of play to earn the win and 1-0 series lead. The Meteors' Hoot pushed harder in game 2 at the start, but his late positioning left him short. The Tradewinds' Bear didn't give up despite the slow start, and he earned the win to tie the series at 1. Bear made a three-ball run and nearly got the 8 to fall at the top left in game 3. Instead, Hoot rallied back on a three-ball run-out for the win and 2-1 series win to advance. Hoot will visit Freedom Cascades strongman Nikolai in the second round.
Amazon Field Exhibition Hall, Golden: Valencia v. Mams. The blue cue returns for 7-ball. Golden's Valencia didn't have a convincing attack in game 1. Swordpoint's Mams gladly filled in with a three-ball run-out at the end to grab the win and 1-0 series lead. The Pilots' Valencia improved on her offense in game 2, but a shaky finish led to a scratch as she made the 7 in the top left. This gifted the win and the series at 2-0 to the Blades' Mams. In game 3, Valencia found a three-ball run-out to avoid the sweep. Mams still won the series 2-1, and she's set to host Modernistic Union veteran Sydney C. in the second round.
Porsche Events Center, Zenith: Nightfur v. Rachel. The silver cue is up in 12-ball. A little good luck on her first shot gave Whitewater's Rachel solids in game 1. Zenith's Nightfur kept it close until the end, when Rachel made a three-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Rachel went empty on the game 2 break, and the Skywatchers' Nightfur thrived on stripes. Rachel made a push for a comeback late, but Nightfur's strong first attack allowed her to win with a pair to tie the series at 1. Nightfur had the lead late in game 3, but her gamble on a hard masse shot didn't pay off. Rachel converted a three-ball run-out for the win to take the series 2-1, and she'll host Westside Rockers rookie Carly in a North Division battle in the second round.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Shaggy v. Acorn. The marquee series today is a captains' battle with the silver cue in 15-ball. Whitewater's Shaggy drove the pace up in game 1, as the fast style favored her. Lighton's Acorn couldn't keep up, and Shaggy finished a three-ball run-out with an 11-15 combination to the top left for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Shores' Shaggy showed some pop on the game 2 break, but the Prestige's Acorn stepped in and got some offense for himself. Acorn ended it early with a 5-15 combination to the bottom left that added the 5 at the top side for a double-pot. The stellar finish tied the series at 1. Nobody backed down in game 3, but it was a missed 5-15 kick combination that doomed Acorn. Shaggy deflected off the 5 to drive the 15 to the top left for the win and 2-1 series win that sent her to the second round.
Chevrolet Center, Everton: Cleo v. Easter. The blue cue is done for the day after this 15-ball set. TodavĂa's Easter had an unfortunate missed contact while aiming for the 7 in a tight game 1. Everton's Cleo used the ball-in-hand to deflect off the 7 to sink the 15 at the bottom right for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Eagles' Cleo had some good shots in game 2, but she was too inconsistent to keep up. The Stills' Easter rifled shots left and right and finished on a four-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Cleo peaked too early in game 3, making a five-ball run just past the halfway mark of the rack. Easter responded with the last three balls over her final two turns for the win, taking the series 2-1 in the process. Easter will remain on the road in the second round.
Nestle's Warriors Hall, Central: Klaus v. Juno. The red cue is up for 12-ball. Stonebridge's Juno strategized well early in game 1, but she couldn't beat the defense of Central's Klaus at the end. Klaus was patient and used his one ball well before winning at the bottom right for a 1-0 series lead. A butchered shot late in game 2 actually helped the Wolves' Juno line up her three-ball run-out, a stroke of good fortune to beat the Warriors' Klaus in a close battle. The series is tied at 1. Both players were able to imprint their style on game 3, but it was Juno who struck late for the win after Klaus failed to kick in his last ball. Juno won the series 2-1 and will play in the second round.
Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: Wings v. Sugar. In 8-ball, the silver cue gets a look. Tysini's Sugar worked a five-ball run in game 1, but it took her forever before she was able to sink the 8 at the top right, as Pearl's Wings held on well with defense. The Surfers' Wings had a much better start in game 2, but he couldn't make the 8 this time. The Hummingbirds' Sugar used a six-ball run to catch up, then sent the 8 to the bottom right for the win to seal the series at 2-0. Wings avoided the sweep with a four-ball run-out to grab the win in game 3. Sugar still advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win, and she'll host the Viewpoint Sound Meteors' Princess.
Samsung Arena, Whitewater: Katharine v. Greg. The red cue is done after this 9-ball battle. Game 1 saw Whitewater's Katharine take the win on a kick that barely glanced off the 5 to sink the 9 at the bottom left. It was ruled a simultaneous contact play to give Katharine a 1-0 series lead over Archtown's Greg, who was incensed at the decision. There was no controversy as the Shores' Katharine took game 2 on the final pair of shots after a shaky showing from the Arrows' Greg. Katharine secured the series at 2-0 with the win. Greg avoided the sweep with a pair of shots at the end of game 3 to pick up his lone win, but Katharine's through to the second round on a 2-1 series win.
Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Lorde v. Sunshine. The league day's action ends with the silver cue in 8-ball. Southern's Lorde got shut out in game 1, while Royal's Sunshine had to battle his way to the victory. Sunshine leads the series 1-0. The Monarchs' Lorde put in a stronger effort in game 2, but she still couldn't come up with a win as the Crowns' Sunshine delivered a three-ball run-out at the end. Sunshine clinched the series at 2-0. Sunshine was a little slow from the start of game 3, allowing Lorde to pick up her lone win of the series. Sunshine still advanced to the second round on a 2-1 series win, and he'll visit Whitewater Shores rookie Rachel next.
A late finish tonight shouldn't affect tomorrow's regularly scheduled action under a heat advisory.
