Tournament XI - First Round Day 6

A full day gets off to a slightly delayed start. Leading off...

Capital City SuperCenter, Capital City: Ellie v. Salmo. The red cue administers 10-ball in the opening series. Capital City's Ellie maintained a larger share of possession in game 1, and she beat Diamond's Salmo on a three-ball run-out. Ellie leads the series 1-0. The Gems' Salmo tried to find a groove in the middle of game 2, but a miss on the 6 led to the Sharpshooters' Ellie rallying for a four-ball run-out. Ellie's win clinched the series in her favor at 2-0. Ellie didn't get a great break in game 3, and Salmo had the better offense this time. Salmo won with a 4-10 combination to the top left, while Ellie heads to hosting a second round series on a 2-1 series win.

Pepsi Arena, Lighton: Spirit v. Angelica. Prestige teammates clash in 13-ball with the silver cue. Spirit had a rough time with scratches early in game 1, but still had a chance to win on a late run that ended with the 8 going in an uncalled pocket. Angelica took the freebie win after an unconvincing attack, earning a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, Angelica and Spirit played quite evenly. Angelica missed her look at the 8 to the bottom left, and Spirit replied on a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Angelica put in another good effort in game 3, only for Spirit to maintain her composure late to earn the win and 2-1 series win. Spirit lines up to host her second round series.

Porsche Events Center, Zenith: Bells v. Dusky. The green cue activates for a series of Rotation. After a competitive start saw Atlantic's Dusky hold the lead in game 1, Zenith's Bells rallied on a four-ball run-out for the 8-5 win. Bells owns a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Dusky used a four-ball run to stage a comeback in game 2, but the Skywatchers' Bells fired back at the end. Bells won 8-6 this time and sealed the series at 2-0. Dusky tried to keep pace in game 3, but her late surge saw her peak too early. Bells bounced back and took an 8-6 win to complete a 3-0 series sweep that sends her to the second round.

Toyota Arena, Freedom: Blake v. Lorde. The red cue is back in action for 13-ball. An epic defensive battle at the top side saw Freedom's Blake get the first crack at the 8 once it ended, but Southern's Lorde cleaned it up to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead after game 1. The Cascades' Blake struggled again in game 2, this time more because of positioning than any tactical defense the Monarchs' Lorde could mount. At the end, Lorde made a pair for the win to secure the series at 2-0. Lorde again did a better job of working her way into good positions in game 3, outpacing Blake at the end to complete the 3-0 series sweep. Lorde will be a visitor in the second round.

Ford Forum, Pronger: Prism v. Maggie. The green cue returns for this 10-ball set. Modernistic's Maggie had an ill-timed miss on the 7 in game 1, and that allowed Pronger's Prism to surge on a four-ball run-out for the win and 1-0 series lead. The Union's Maggie had more confidence after a four-ball run in game 2, but she butchered shots on the 8 and the 10 that cost her the game. The Tridents' Prism cleaned up late and sealed the series at 2-0 with this win. Maggie put the 10 near the top left early in game 3, but she wasn't able to finish it off. Prism got the win on a 9-10 combination and took a 3-0 series sweep with her into the second round.

Mercedes-Benz Forum, Harrison: Snuggle v. Dusty. The green cue remains up for a 15-ball series. Harrison's Snuggle hauled in offense in bunches in game 1, significantly more than Golden's Dusty. Snuggle picked up the win with a pair at the end to go up 1-0 in the series. The Specters' Snuggle took a small step back on offense, but it was his miss on the 13 late in game 2 that cost him. The Pilots' Dusty smashed a three-ball run-out for the win to tie the series at 1. Dusty and Snuggle brought some solid pace in game 3, but in the end it was Snuggle who sank the final pair of shots. Snuggle won the series 2-1 to earn a hosting spot in the second round.

Verizon Field Events Center, Pacific: Smokey v. Leonardo. Tough guys battle in Accuracy as the red cue exits the day. Pacific's Smokey held on just well enough to force overtime when Diamond's Leonardo missed on the last ball in regulation. In overtime, Leonardo missed again and Smokey won 2-3 for a 1-0 series lead. The Volcanoes' Smokey was perfect until the last ball in game 2, holding off the Gems' Leonardo after his early mistakes. Smokey won this game 1-3 and sealed the series at 2-0 in the process. Leonardo again struggled early in game 3, and Smokey kept the lead well to win 2-3 again for the 3-0 series sweep. The top-seeded Smokey continues to hold a hosting position in the second round.

Nissan Hall, Infinity: Fuchsia v. Potter. Outcast club-mates meet in 15-ball for the purple cue's lone series today. Pronger's Potter couldn't get any offense going and he struggled late in game 1. Infinity's Fuchsia picked up an unconvincing win from ball-in-hand to get a 1-0 series lead. The Tridents' Potter had better looks on offense, but the Torpedoes' Fuchsia simply had better luck in game 2. Potter sent the 15 wide of the top left at the end, and Fuchsia knocked it in to clinch the series at 2-0. Potter didn't put much thought into his shots in game 3. Early on, he left a 4-15 combination lined up for Fuchsia to convert at the bottom left for the 3-0 series sweep. Fuchsia will host her second round series.

McDonald's Hall, Atlantic: Delila v. Josie. The blue cue comes aboard for a 9-ball series. Atlantic's Delila set the tone in game 1 with a pair on the break, and she blasted a four-ball run-out at the end for a commanding win over Viewpoint Sound's Josie. Delila owns a 1-0 series lead. The Pirates' Delila slowed down a bit in game 2, but also made a three-ball run before a critical miss on the 8. The Meteors' Josie picked up the final pair of shots for the win to tie the series at 1. Delila handled things well in game 3, as Josie's late scratch made it an easy finish from ball-in-hand. Delila made a pair at the end to win the series 2-1 and punch her ticket to the second round.

Audi Hall, Terrace City: Melissa v. Princess. North Division rivals clash in 15-ball with the green cue. Terrace City's Melissa put in a good start in game 1, but Viewpoint Sound's Princess made five of the last seven balls to earn the win. Princess leads the series 1-0. The Meteors' Princess had a five-ball run early in game 2, but it ended with her sinking the 15 on illegal contact on a failed kick. This gifted a win to the Knights' Melissa, which in turn tied the series at 1. Game 3 saw the two players take an even battle to the end, where Melissa's miss on the 14 loomed large. Princess closed it out with a pair of shots for the 2-1 series win. Princess will play in the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Spice v. Yekaterina. Today's marquee series features the Spurs' captain and superstar in 15-ball with the silver cue. A close game 1 came to an early end when Spice connected on an 8-15 bank combination to the bottom left for the win and 1-0 series lead over Yekaterina. In game 2, offense came a little slower. Yekaterina had a bad shot on the 12 that allowed Spice to deflect the winning shot on the 15 into the bottom right to clinch the series at 2-0. In game 3, Spice continued to have her way on offense, but she faltered a bit at the end. Yekaterina made the last two balls for the win, but Spice's 2-1 series win will keep her at home in the second round.

Starbucks Arena, Archtown: Sleepy B. v. Vladimir. East Division rivals are set to play Rotation with the green cue. Archtown's Sleepy B. took the early lead in game 1 and kept Maplewood's Vladimir a few steps back throughout. At the end, Sleepy B. finished with an 8-5 win for a 1-0 series lead. The Arrows' Sleepy B. couldn't find much offense early in game 2, and she was unable to keep pace with the Lumberjacks' Vladimir this time. Vladimir finished with an 8-6 win to tie the series at 1. In game 3, Vladimir ran out of offense a little too early. Sleepy B. didn't surge to the finish, but she eventually took an 8-5 win to win the series 2-1 and earn her place in the second round.

BMW RockDome, Westside: Snowball v. Neopolitan. The green cue stays up for 7-ball between North Division opponents. Westside's Snowball started and ended game 1 with three-ball runs, producing a strong win for the 1-0 series lead over Pearl's Neopolitan. The Surfers' Neopolitan had two looks at the 7 in game 2, but neither of them went in a pocket. The Rockers' Snowball then cut the winning shot to the top side to secure the series at 2-0. Neopolitan looked ready to go on a run in game 3, but her miss on the 6 cut off her attack. Snowball bounced back with a pair for the win to sweep the series 3-0 and earn a hosting position in the second round.

T-Mobile Center, Victoria: Sage v. Bright. The blue cue is done after this 12-ball battle. Victoria's Sage controlled the pace in game 1 and faced little challenge from Pearl's Bright. Sage leads the series 1-0. The Surfers' Bright got down to his last ball very quickly in game 2, but he couldn't line it up at the end. A missed contact on his last attempt allowed the Spurs' Sage to sink her final ball from ball-in-hand to the bottom side, sealing the series at 2-0. Sage continued to outplay Bright in game 3, as Bright's defense on the right side of the table was too loose. Sage made a three-ball run-out for the win and 3-0 series sweep that lines her up to host again in the second round.

Microsoft Center, Del Sur: Pounce v. Rosemary. The day ends with the green cue in 9-ball. Momentum swung wildly in game 1. Commerce's Rosemary made a three-ball run, Southern's Pounce replied on a five-ball run but missed the 9, and Rosemary then sank the winning shot at the top right for a 1-0 series lead. In game 2, both players had looks at the 9 after a competitive battle. The Monarchs' Pounce was able to bury it on his second try, tying the series at 1 game apiece with the Tradewinds' Rosemary. Pounce had an early end to his opening attack in game 3, but Rosemary wasn't able to answer it well. Pounce fired up a five-ball run-out in the end, taking the series win at 2-1 to get into the second round.

We're scheduled for a regular day of games tomorrow, but Saturdays are currently a game-day decision.
