UPCL Cricket: Week 20 Part 3

This should bring us to the end of the official "midseason" weeks, spanning from week 13 to week 20. After this, there's twelve weeks left for things to shake out. We begin with...

Microsoft Pitch at Del Sur: Somehow, in this West Division battle, the Monarchs are the ones trying to sweep after winning in Pacific earlier in the season. Starlight had to build up after a weak start, but she ended with 599 for Pacific, a wonderful first attack. Panda swung and missed for Southern, giving them just 120 in what may be another doomed home game. Ms. Kitty made up for two bad games with one great one, demolishing 2189 to seal the Volcanoes victory before the halfway mark. Shannon didn't have much else to say with 179 for the Monarchs. Jack restored the dynamic to Pacific's roster, taking a meager 48 on his turn. Kirstin poked 207 for Southern as they have no chance here. Leonette chipped 160 to bring the Volcanoes to 2996 overall in their victory. Nicole had just 98, putting the Monarchs at 604 in their loss. Pacific gets an easy win to go to 27-15, while Southern is 11-34 now, having lost sixteen straight at home and six in a row overall.

GE Stadium, Southridge: The Spurs got the win two weeks ago at home, and will try for a sweep here. Spice had a lackluster 240 for Victoria to begin the game. Boots suffered from a bad deflection to end her turn at 122 for Southridge. B. Chapman grabbed another 304 for the Spurs. Debby charged with 568 for the Defenders, giving the hosts a lead at the halfway point of the game. Yekaterina replied with 392 for Victoria, keeping them in the game. J. Garcia shot back with 577 for Southridge, giving them a bit more control with a player each to go. Kavan picked up 394 for the Spurs, setting them at 1330 and forcing a response from the hosts. Shaggy didn't end with style, but her 105 capped the Defenders win at 1372. Southridge stands at 15-25, dragging Victoria closer as they now hold a 15-24 record.

Blades Fusion ProGlide Park, Swordpoint: These West Division rivals meet again as the Blades look for a sweep against the skidding Stills. Todavía saw Easter contribute 281 after she couldn't corral a backhand shot. Snowball clubbed 466 for Swordpoint, giving them the first lead. Sierra essentially cancelled that out with 465 for the Stills. Dreamy had only 248 for the Blades, and they trail slightly at the halfway mark. Leonardo didn't help the Todavía cause much with only 148, allowing their lead to slip. Shawn made it slightly closer with 176 for Swordpoint, but the final players will determine this one. Sparkles posted 463 for the Stills, giving them a final of 1357. Stealth's best effort came after an optional replay and a false start, as he hit 396 for the Blades, but this left them at 1286 in the loss. Todavía gets a critical win for their hopes, ending a five-game road skid and sending them to 21-24, while Swordpoint is now 27-13, with a six-game winning streak coming to an end.

Audi Knights Pitch, Terrace City: The Knights have a chance to sweep the last-place Monarchs. Panda led things off with 456 for Southern in an impressive showing for the beleaguered captain. Kiwi got betrayed by her backhand, which ended her turn at a weak 98 for Terrace City. Shannon lifted 343 more for the Monarchs, who have apparently shown up for this game. Jennifer botched her turn with a measly 62 for the Knights. Kirstin potentially left the door open with only 25 for Southern in a poor showing. Oreo couldn't capitalize, taking only 130 as Terrace City faces an embarrassing defeat looming. Nicole's 310 gave the Monarchs a final of 1134. Stripes made a huge comeback, slugging 1078 to carry the Knights to a win on 1368. Such a win might just save Terrace City's season, sending them to 23-20, while Southern suffers a new heartbreak in falling to 11-35 on a seventh straight loss.

Apple Park, Todavía: Two proud franchise tangle here, and they'll do it again next week in Boston. Patches continued her recent slump with only 160 for Boston. Easter's in a slump of her own, and she had just 33 for Todavía as the scoring isn't quite here yet. Puff II didn't help the offense problem with just 208 for the Swifts, and it's still anyone's game. Sierra cut down the deficit when she scored 286 on a mandatory replay. Gradley staved off the threat pretty effectively, taking 499 for Boston in a strong showing. Leonardo replied with 615 for Todavía, edging them to the lead with a player each to go. Sweetheart forced a response with 604 for the Swifts, placing them at a final of 1471. Sparkles lost it for the Stills, giving them only 25 and a loss on 959 overall. Boston continues to ride a bit of luck and a balanced roster, going up to 29-15 while also 3-0 on their current road trip, while Todavía slides to 21-25.

Cisco Tysini Field, Tysini: The Hummingbirds do battle with the league-leading Eagles, looking for revenge. Goldy has been much more hit or miss lately, and she missed with 57 for Everton this time. Princess rocked 460 for Tysini, doing well in punishing the mistake. Puff III ripped 569 in response for the Eagles, covering the deficit. Leandra buried it with 800 for the Hummingbirds, keeping them in firm control. Cleo had a weak 111 for Everton, likely sealing a loss for them. Charli fired 579 for Tysini, extending the lead again for the dominant hosts. Blizzard had only 249 for the Eagles, and they took the loss with 986 overall. Bright capped the Hummingbirds win with 258, giving them 2097. Tysini beats the best to get to 26-17 and seventh place in the league, while Everton is down to 35-10 as the last team to reach double-digit losses.

Sprint Pitch, Victoria: The second meeting for these teams has the Spurs chasing a sweep in a Southwest Derby match. Acorn remains in a slump, with just 192 for Lighton in this appearance. Spice hauled in 426 for Victoria in a solid outing. Spirit faltered with 200 for the Prestige, and they'll continue to trail. B. Chapman managed only 164 for the Spurs, allowing their lead to shrink a bit. Twinkie I once again reignited the Lighton offense, belting 904 to put them ahead. Yekaterina had only 85 for Victoria, and they are now far behind. Lydia didn't inspire much confidence with 112 for the Prestige, but they'll end at 1408. Kavan had a double-tap that doomed him to 49 points for the Spurs, giving them a loss with 724. Lighton sneaks away with a win to move to 23-15 on the year, while Victoria is 15-25 after the derby loss.

Volkswagen Stadium, Viewpoint Sound: It's the first meeting of the year between these teams. Fluffina dominated the game until she had to handle three balls at once, ending with 635 as Maplewood gets a great start. Mr. Snowman scooped up 235 for Viewpoint Sound as his answer. Bryant struggled with a cluttered pitch, taking just 169 for the Lumberjacks. Mams recovered a lot of the deficit with her 484 for the Meteors, making it close at the halfway point. Diddley didn't help Maplewood at all, taking a measly 64 on his poor showing. Zach carved out 326 for Viewpoint Sound to give them the lead with a player each to go. Cubby had a pathetic 63 as the Lumberjacks imploded in a loss, ending at 931. Kelly slapped 359 for the Meteors, icing their total at 1404 in the win. A five-game home winning streak sees Viewpoint Sound to 16-21, while Maplewood drops to 17-18 on a three-game losing streak.

Home Depot Forum, Web City: After winning at home, the Warriors take a short trip in hopes of a sweep of their Northeastern rivals, the Spiders. Twilight seems to be in a post-CCC hangover, taking only 231 for Central. Shadow gave Web City the first lead with a solid 400, but the game appears to competitive. Dustin spiked 1120 for the Warriors, establishing a significant lead with the big effort. Rainmane knocked 770 in response for the Spiders, cutting into the deficit quite a bit. Noelle had a bad outing for Central with just 25 points, making them vulnerable. Sugar couldn't cover the deficit, but her 193 made it close for Web City in a thrilling battle between fierce rivals. Gizmo did his best to gain separation with his 714 for the Warriors, putting them at 2090 total. Shiny couldn't cover it, taking 215 as the Spiders snap a six-game home winning streak at a final of 1568. Central gets the rivalry win to go to 25-17 as the third tier teams make a push up the standings, while Web City slips to 21-19.

BMW RockDome, Westside: It's the first meeting for two teams with gray as their primary color. Snowball set the tone early on for Swordpoint, swatting 841 to give them a huge advantage. Misty tried to keep up, but ended with 384 as she was a bit too strong on her backhand. Dreamy mostly kept pace for the Blades, adding 367 to their score. Goatee cut the deficit a bit, taking 436 for the Rockers in a good turn. Shawn let the Swordpoint lead slip a bit, as he only produced 208. Midnight got a little back with 271 for Westside, but the hosts are still a noticeable distance back late in the game. Stealth also struggled a bit, with his 176 putting the Blades at a final of 1592. Chicky Phil had to fight the circumstances, as multiple balls got left out of his reach, the last of those causing his demise at 307 for the Rockers. They lost with 1398. Swordpoint grabs a win to get to 28-13 on the year, still in third place, while Westside's poor campaign is now at 13-24.

Samsung Whitewater Stadium, Whitewater: The week ends with a Center Division battle, with the Shores trying to sweep after topping the Pilots in Golden a few weeks ago. Valencia began with 481 for Golden, a very good effort. Bear kept it close, taking 392 for Whitewater as the game starts tight. Dusty carved out 447 for the Pilots, doing well to maintain their lead. Twinkie III slipped with 249 for the Shores, and they face a larger deficit at the halfway point. Strut made a big rally with 707 for Golden, likely securing the game. Cheddar caused her own demise, deflecting a ball out of bounds to score just 144 for Whitewater. A. Charlton had 167 to cap the Pilots offense at 1802, which should go for a win. Wild Thing popped 152 for the Shores, giving them a loss on 937 total. Golden's win sends them to 23-16, while Whitewater is down to 17-27.

The standings will be updated soon. Expect the back half of the season to feature a lot of condensed weeks like this.

UPCL Cricket: Week 20 Part 2

Here's the middle part of the week, beginning with...

Mercedes-Benz Field, Harrison: The Specters have a chance to sweep after a week 3 upset win in Boston. Patches had just 189 for Boston in her opening turn, putting them at a low level. Slinks also had a bad turn, scoring a measly 84 for Harrison as they start from behind. Puff II smashed 930 for the Swifts, giving them a much stronger lead as the game approaches half-completion. Twinkie II faltered with only 39 for the Specters as this game gets out of hand. Gradley swung 463 for Boston, extending their lead once again. Sydney had a poor 93 for Harrison as the hosts suffer an embarrassing game. Sweetheart tacked on 552, only fading on a swing-and-miss, and the Swifts will close a likely victory with 2134. Brownie had 202 for the Specters, bringing their losing score to 418. With the win, Boston finds themselves at 27-15 after snapping their four-game losing streak, while Harrison is 15-24 as they split the season series.

Nissan Infinity Stadium, Infinity: The Torpedoes have a chance to sweep, previously beating the Sharks at HP Field in week 7. Graham began the game with 304 for Eastside in a reasonable effort. Infinity only got 48 out of their captain Smudge, skying a ball and making them work from behind. The Sharks got quite a bit more on their lead when Chelsea chopped 801 to extend the lead. Shelley answered with 385 for the Torpedoes, recovering some of the deficit. Taylor fired back with 400 for Eastside, only ending when she just deflected a ball back into the stumps. Gabe had just 98 for Infinity after a bad swing, and things are not looking good for the hosts. Niki had a strong start but an iffy swing gave her only 115, putting the Sharks at 1620 overall. Whiskers made a pretty solid effort for the Torpedoes, striking 418, but they lost with a final of 949. Eastside is now at 23-19 on their fourth straight road win, while Infinity is down to 16-22.

Pepsi Prestige Park, Lighton: The Prestige look to finish a sweep after beating the Pirates just before the CCC break. Delila unleashed 1043 for Atlantic, breaking her three-week slump with one big appearance. Acorn had 369 in response for Lighton, a solid effort to offset some damage. Amber had just 144 for the Pirates on her turn, letting their lead slip a bit. Spirit dented the deficit pretty well with 460 for the Prestige, bringing them closer at the halfway mark. Americus had a measly 45 for Atlantic due to a bad deflection. Lighton took the lead with 615 from Twinkie I, giving them the late advantage. Dominic rallied for 578 for the Pirates, bringing them to 1810 and forcing a response from the hosts. Lydia had only 279 for the Prestige, costing them the game as they will fall with 1723. Atlantic improves to 21-17, snapping their four-game losing streak, while Lighton snaps a five-game winning streak in falling to 22-15.

UPS Ground, Maplewood: First meeting of the year in another East Division battle. Jasmine began with 539 for Freedom, a good start for the captain. Maplewood answered with 379 from Fluffina, keeping them in range but noticeably behind early on. Stinky faded a bit with 279 for the Cascades, allowing their lead to shrink a little. Bryant couldn't cash in on the opportunity with only 211 for the Lumberjacks. Roxy tapped only 192 for Freedom, again allowing things to become unstable. Diddley managed 250 for Maplewood to get them a bit closer. Nikolai made a big impact with 723 for the Cascades, icing their performance at 1733. Cubby got betrayed by his backhand, ending his turn early at 50 to leave the Lumberjacks with 890. Freedom gets a big win to go to 21-19, while Maplewood is down to 17-16.

Google Pitch at Union Ground, Modernistic: The Volcanoes want to avenge their home loss to the Union in this meeting. Starlight ripped 499 for Pacific to lead off, giving them a strong start. Juno accepted 545 after a ball landed out of play but wasn't called, electing to skip an optional replay. Ms. Kitty answered with 512 for the Volcanoes, restoring their significant lead. Ms. Puppy couldn't keep pace, hitting 310 for the Union. Jack also faltered, hitting only 162 for Pacific after just barely avoiding disaster with an onslaught of offerings catching him off-guard. Chimpy lined 503 for Modernistic, giving them a late lead. Leonette lost it with only 80 for the Volcanoes, putting them in a loss with 1253. Puff I had a simple 48 for the Union, sealing their win at 1406. Modernistic pulls off the upset-sweep, jumping to 16-22 while acting as kryptonite to the 24-15 Pacific side.

AT&T Oceanside Stadium, Oceanside: Two teams that have changed face off again as the Waves look for a sweep. Slinks struggled in her appearance, taking only 167 for Harrison as they start slow. Snuggle had a rough start, but his persistence culminated in 771 for Oceanside to take the lead. The Specters countered with 264 from Twinkie II, not helping a whole lot. Bells flipped 735 for the Waves to pad their lead at the halfway mark. Harrison fell a little more as Sydney took only 211 on a poor showing. Alyssa chopped another 411 for Oceanside as they seem set to cruise to victory. Brownie made a commendable effort with 570, bringing the Specters to their losing total of 1212. Pounce collected 256 to give the Waves 2173 in the win. Oceanside had an easy win for the sweep, improving to 21-15, while Harrison falls to 15-25 on a four-game losing streak.

Verizon Field, Pacific: The Volcanoes are looking to sweep their West Division rivals. Mr. Snowman pulled in 418 to give Viewpoint Sound a solid opener. Starlight fumbled her way to 32 for Pacific, putting them behind early on. Mams didn't make the Meteors all that confident with 209 to add to their lead. The Volcanoes appear to be falling apart, with Ms. Kitty taking just 12. Zach barely covered it with 51 for Viewpoint Sound in a game that has seen all offense evaporate. Jack, somewhat unpredictably, pummeled 854 to give Pacific a late lead. Kelly couldn't overcome the deficit, taking a weak 144 as the Meteors lose with 822. Leonette had 128 to give the Volcanoes 1026 in a low-scoring victory. Pacific's division win sends them to 25-15, while Viewpoint Sound scuffles at 15-21 on a fifth straight road loss.

Honda Driftwood Coliseum, Pearl: The Surfers look to sweep the Swifts, with fourth place in the league on the line for this game. Patches lacked an appropriate pace for Boston, collecting just 210 while she ate up a lot of time. Watermelon made a strong answer of 399 for Pearl, giving them the initial lead. Puff II ripped 586 in response, keeping the Swifts in the game. Neopolitan had 354 for the Surfers, which didn't quite cover the deficit. Gradley carried Boston farther ahead with a big 599 to boost their lead. Wings rallied for 735 for Pearl, covering the deficit and giving the hosts a narrow lead with a player each to go. Sweetheart belted 785 for the Swifts, giving them 2180 and forcing a big response from the hosts. Cowzart got beat by a rolling ball, ending his turn at 112 and giving the Surfers a loss with 1600 even. Boston takes fourth in the league at 28-15, while Pearl slips behind them at 24-14.

Tridents Park sponsored by Ford, Pronger: The Volcanoes look for a sweep here, with fifth place in the league as the reward for it. Starlight proved reliable this time out, scoring 475 to give Pacific a nice lead. Strawberry made it quite close, putting up 463 for Pronger in a similar effort. Ms. Kitty is not having a great week, taking a measly 30 for the Volcanoes to make them vulnerable. Hoot swung a bit too hard on his turn, but the Tridents used his 168 to take a minor lead. Jack suffered some losses with ghost balls, but still turned in a good effort with 791 to give Pacific another large lead. Precious kept Pronger somewhat in range with her 498, setting up a close finish. Leonette made another mess with only 80 for the Volcanoes, leaving them at 1376 total. Paps nearly did it, but his 233 put the Tridents at 1362 in an eighth straight home loss. Pacific has gotten lucky twice tonight, up to 26-15 for the season, while Pronger slips to 14-25 with the disappointing loss.

Ebay Center, Queens: The Center Division takes the spotlight now with this game. Chris pulled in 336 for Capital City, a reasonable starting effort. Crystal replied with only 241 for Queens, occupying the familiar trailing spot early on. Missy stopped a ball about as far back as safely possible, but she couldn't bring it forward and ended with 290 for the Sharpshooters. Kayla managed just 208 for the Flames as they remain troubled. Sprinkles blasted a massive 1723 for Capital City, likely cementing their lead now. Max accidentally swatted a ball into his wicket on the backhand, ending his turn at 144 for Queens. Dani tacked on 258 to bring the Sharpshooters to their likely victorious final of 2607. Paige made a big rally attempt with 780 for the Flames, but they suffered defeat with 1373. Capital City's third straight win sees them to 17-21, while Queens is down to 11-26.

Kraft Crowns Park, Royal: Segment two ends with the Lumberjacks trying to wrap up a sweep. Fluffina had a bad start with only 49 for Maplewood this time out. Frosty had 115 for Royal, giving them a small lead in a horrendous start on both sides. Bryant blew the lid off with 639 for the Lumberjacks, giving them a nice lead. Jake hammered 690 for the Crowns, giving them another minor lead. Diddley used an optional replay to produce 295 for Maplewood, a reasonable effort that will cover the deficit. Marsell fired back with 800 to give Royal a strong lead late in the game. Cubby couldn't handle a blitz of balls, ending on a weak 87 to give the Lumberjacks a losing score of 1070. Nightfur slapped 512 more to bring the Crowns to 2117 for the win. Royal jumps to 13-23 with the season split, while Maplewood is at 17-17 and currently out of a playoff spot.

That's it for this segment. I fully expect to finish the week within the next three hours.

It's a milestone week for the UPCL, as midseason reports will finish and set the league into a 12-week blitz to the finish. The first game is...

Starbucks Cup, Archtown: The Arrows will reach midseason with this meeting with a solid opponent. Valencia produced a strong effort for Golden, leading things off with 522. Sally was unable to get to a rolling ball, and she had just 164 as Archtown will start from behind. Dusty decimated the hosts by slamming 1425 for the Pilots, cementing their lead effectively. Sleepy B. answered with 510 for the Arrows, attempting to mitigate the damage. Strut tapped 220 for Golden to keep their lead steady. Ruby hooked an offering on her turn, abruptly ending with a meager 42 as Archtown has virtually no hope of a comeback. A. Charlton had 206 to ice the Pilots offense at 2373, in what should be an easy win. Dusky's 615 proved individually commendable but insufficient, as the Arrows lost with 1331. Golden had a fun time in getting to 21-16, while Archtown has lost four straight to go to 14-18 after a doomed road trip. For the Arrows mideseason report, click here.

Maplewood is up to 17-15 on the year, while Eastside drops down to 21-19 in the division loss. For the Lumberjacks midseason report, click here.

Chevrolet Field, Everton: The Eagles look for a sweep after beating the Cascades at home earlier in the year. Jasmine led off with a pretty good game, taking 424 for Freedom to lead things off.
